- This is a quick video of our building of built in bookcases that feature IKEA Havsta cabinets as a base.
There are lots of great videos out there on using KREG jigs, so I didn't try and recreate those.
This is really just a quick video showing what can be done.
Bought:
1x12x12 (6) quality pine for shelves, uprights
1x12x12 (1) x 1x8x12 (1) quality pine for counter top
1x2x12 (5) for supports
1x3x12 (6) for upright trim
1x4x12 (5) for door trim
3/4x4x8 (2) for door panels
spax 1 1/4 and 2" screws
KREG pocket hole jig
KREG hidden hinge jig
table saw ($30 off craigslist)
primer
cabinet paint
Had:
circular saw
miter saw
level
square
cordless screwdriver
palm sander
Good luck!
How to build built-in bookcase using IKEA cabinets, IKEA Havsta, built in bookshelves, DIY bookshelves, IKEA Hack - Навчання та стиль
Step 1 be a professional carpenter lol. Amazing work.
Thanks!!
Thanks for showing what you did in 3 minutes instead of half an hour.
Genius! Looks fantastic!
She did an awesome job!
Brilliant, looks great! I picked up some great tips for when I start my built-in office desk setup. Thanks for the video.
Awesome! Thanks for watching my video! I'm glad you liked it!
Lol! Love the ending, wish I could
You’re definitely worth it
Thanks! Glad you liked the joke.
Great job!!!!! Looks fabulous!!!!!!
Thanks so much!!
How about a nice piece of crown on top. you wouldn't even need to make a miter cut. If you're just a weekend warrior you should be very proud of your work. It's beautiful.
Great job
This turned out great! ;)
Thanks Diez!!
Looks great!
Thanks!! Well worth the effort.
It's beautiful, great job!
Thank you! 😊

Thanks Sheilagh! I really appreciate it!
@@mdavis472000 wish i knew someone with your talent that lived near me ... I’d be happy to pay for a pro job like you did!
Truly amazing!

You basically built the whole thing , amazing job
Thanks Hanane. It was a really fun project, and looks great.
Great video , thank you 🙏🏼
Thanks Mar! Thanks for watching my video!!
Absolutely stunning! Where do you live..? Make one for me? 🤣
How thickness the boards?
Looks great! Question- why is it necessary to remove the carpet? I want to build a similar one but I’m not so sure about cutting the carpet.
Removing the carpet allows the entire structure to sit on concrete (it's in my basement), instead of sitting on the carpet. It's fairly heavy, especially when filled with books, and I think having a solid foundation is the best idea. Thanks for watching my video, and for commenting, Jani!!
Hi, How wide is your bookcase? I am looking to have something similar built for a 15ft wall. TY
my wall is 127" wide (around 10 1/2 feet). the Havsta is a hair under 32" wide, so you could get 5 in yours, then build shelves or custom cabinets to fill in the rest. Thanks for watching my video!!
Amazing work! How did you fix the vertical boards?
Thanks! I screwed down through the top horizontal board into the top of the vertical boards. Then I screwed down through the 1x2"s on the bottom into the counter top.
Thanks again for watching my video!!
These look Great! Are there any issues with the paint matching the Ikea cabinets?
we actually ended up lightly sanding the cabinets, then painting them with the cabinet paint, the same as the shelves. Thanks!!
Did you use a piece of trim at the bottom? if so what size? Does it completely cover the 2x4 bases?
since the cabinets spanned the entire wall, I used a piece of baseboard trim. It covered the 2x4 frame. Thanks for watching my video!!
Did you sand in between coats of primer and paint? What grit did you use of you did?
yes we did lightly sand in between coats, per the instructions on the primer and paint. Thanks for watching my video!!
Thanks, looks great! Is that wall 10 ft?
Thanks for watching! That wall is 10 and 1/2 feet wide.
The Havsta cabinets that I’ve seen in the store has a base on the bottom. Can that be removed?
yes, there's a box that goes under the bottom of the cabinet and raises it up about 4 1/4" high. Then there is a piece of trim that screws to that on the front. I didn't use either and instead made the frame out of 2x4 to hold the 3 cabinets perfectly level to each other. Then I put a piece of baseboard across the front. I have another video showing three Havsta cabinets being used in our workout room here: ua-cam.com/video/6tJ7qYyF2Ro/v-deo.html
Thanks for watching my video!
How long did this project take you to complete?
we started August 1st, and finished October 18th. We worked mainly on weekends, and not every weekend.
Hahaha the ending joke 😆
Thanks!! Dad humor is the best humor. :)
that joke at the end made me lol. Nice job! I want to do the same.
Thanks for watching my video! Glad I could make you laugh. I try to put a little humor in most of my videos. Thanks again!
It's very nice, just not sure why u r calling it an IKEA built in. There might be a little IKEA in the project, but the majority isn't anything to do with IKEA!
Also I would have reversed the knobs on the two end doors
Thanks for watching Ben! I called it IKEA built in's because the base was the cabinets. We would have used 4 cabinets, but four wouldn't fit. Maybe 'IKEA Hack' would have been more appropriate name. I debated on the open direction of those end doors, and decided to have them open so that they wouldn't dent / scratch the walls when opened fully.
Thanks again for watching!
Another option would be to reverse the knobs but glue them shut thereby having a false half cabinet at each end. You reduce a small amount of storage but protect the walls. Great video!
@@JW-rw8fq Yeah, that would certainly work. and you could make and access from the cabinet beside it if you wanted: sort of a hidden storage side cabinet access... Thanks for watching my video!
Hahahaha
