F4 vs F3, practically a no-brainer F4 wins !

My Nikon N8008 shutter release button is not tripping the shutter. The batteries are good. Is there a fix?

I just bought one a few days ago with the small battery pack and I love it. I also own the Nikon F100 and the Canon Eos 1 N and having a good time comparing them. I wasn’t a pro back in the eighties, even though I have been shooting film since 1976. I’m trying to understand the debate between Canon and Nikon pro shooter that was going on in that period. I think I get it. Even though the Nikon F4 autofocus is plentiful for an amateur like me, the Canon Eos 1 is simply better with its Ultra Sonic motors, that where faster and more silent. That probably meant something if you had to make a living out of your cameras. The Nikon F4 is solely responsible for Nikon loosing the pro market, that they had been sitting on in the sixties and seventies. From there on the white Canon lenses would dominate the olympics and all other major sports events. Fast forward to today where we funny enough have a similar experience, now with three players, Sony, Canon and Nikon. For a decade Nikon has been chasing Sony and Canon in the autofocus department, and it looks like the finally caught up With their lates mirrorless cameras. Don’t get me wrong , I love Nikon and the F4, there where just other players out there, that’s all. Nice video. ❤❤❤

This is one of the most annoying review videos I've ever seen. Stopped watching at 7:16. By the way, some of the best cameras I use have plastic body such as the Yashica FX-D Quartz, Canon T-50 and Nikon FG.

I agree the F4 is far better than the F3. I bought a Nikon FE back in the early 80s when it was first released but dreaming of an F3 which I could not afford. I now own both cameras and prefer the FE to the F3, but the F4 is better than both (but I like the compact size and low weight of the FE). I think the F5 is a step backwards from the F4, but the F6 is brilliant but again not up there with the F4. I actually own at least one of each of all of Nikon's professional film cameras from the F to the F6 so I am in a position to make direct comparisons. But my favourite remains the F2, but for sentimental reasons. Technically, the F4 is probably the best professional film camera Nikon ever made (but the most slagged off) - I have three, two working and one to strip parts.

Yup. Nice fix. On my son's van I used masking tape and a coat hanger. Coat hanger probably would have been enough. Looks like an interference fit is what holds it in place. Poor design if ya ask me.

I agree. I don't know why all the hype around the F3 and their ridiculous prices when you have an F4 for half as much. That said, I own an F3, two F4 and an F5. Love them all. And the F5 is clearly a next generation camera compared to the F4. But the F4's ability to take advantage of almost EVERY SLR Nikkor lens ever made with full almost compatibility makes it the best SLR in Nikon's line-up to shoot with. Cheers.

I USED AN AIR SPRAYER FOR 12 DOLLARS , JUST HOOK IT UP TO YOUR AIR HOSE AND PUT THE SUCT. HOSE IN A GALLON OF USED TRANNY FLUID !!

EVERYBODY CAREFULL WITH THE FUMES, COVER YOUR NOSE AND MOUTH WITH A MASK OR AT LEAST A RAG, BEST OF LUCK WITH YOUR EFFORTS MATES !!.....COFFEES ON ME !!

Grand Merci. Many thanks. Great review of the best Nikon F camera. A Révolution when it came out and still the best camera to handle. I still have two F4 and prefer the camera without the batterie pack MB-21. Rewinding without the motor by hand is useful especially to save the batteries also. Also a good point for the F4 is the automatique charging very fast. Notice that the camera without the battery pack MB-21 need 4 x LR-6 batteries and with the MB-21 it is 6 x LR-6 batteries.

I really appreciate this video. I just picked one up from eBay and I'm very excited to get to know it. Mine even has the protective film on the bottom. It's in great shape.

Have that exact noise! Gonna fix that this weekend. Also sounds like (at least at the time you shot this video) you have the infamous passenger exhaust manifold "putt putt" sound.

Dealer told me I have bad gas in the tank.

Found exactly the same problem on same wheel. I will be doing the same fix as I don't really want to put any money into my ancient (2001) van. Initially, after ABS light came on, tried my scanner but it didn't read ABS codes. Used the paper clip jumper method which gave me the codes pointing to the rear wheels. For anyone without the proper scanner trying to diagnose ABS problem on Sienna, the paper clip method is easy and accurate.

I have this exact problem. We have replaced the actuator (twice) and the check valve (once). Still intermittently get this exact problem. Back to the dealer to have them diagnose it.

I bought my Nikon F4 from Amazon it shipped from Japan .. and I paid $217.00 Canadian .. with tax in a duty .. came out to exactly $250.37 lol I was supposed to get the Nikon F 4s but .. said on the box Nikon F 4s doesn't matter .. I bought a Nikon ED telephoto lens 80 - 200 mm lol after and I do believe the lens itself is slightly heavier than the Nikon F4

Do you spray inside the frame. I use woolwax and surface shield. I buy in gallons with spray gun and wands to soak of the inside of doors, frames panels.

Thanks for the video with sound, I did the vacuum check valve assembly replacement first and the sound is now gone. Thanks for the video. Knowing to test by switching to 4x4 was the key to my diagnosis. Replaced in July 2024 - on a 2016 F150

Have the same noise in my 2010 f150. Had the dealership replace the drivers side IWE actuator. Sound still there so heading back to get them to actually interstate the noise since they never checked themselves and assumed it was the valve. Charged me $570 to not fix the issue or even check it beforehand…

Hello, is there a direction for installing the rotary valve (disc)? In my F4, the gap between the engine body and the disc changes when I switch it over.

My opinion is that the F4S was the best film camera ever made - and I shot Fs, F3s, FMs, FE-3s, FM-2s and F4Ss as my own (and also shot the F5 a bit).

Thank you so much! Crawled under my 2000 Sienna and the sensor was laying there just like yours. Glued it back in with some E6000, drove around the block, and now my ABS light is off!
