Thanks so much for watching and I hope you enjoyed. Leave any future video ideas you would like to see in the comments below and don't forget to subscribe!
Apologies for the black screen at the end of the video! I had an outro to place there and it didn’t export properly. Was just wanting to say thank you so much for watching :)
Where are your bookcases from??
I was a bit confused with the blackout lol. But u gave me great idea for my own bookshelves. I Will use yours as inspiration but will hold the bookcase with command strips as im in a rental n would like something less permanent. :)
Thank you! Where can we find the finished, styled look?
I thought you were going to put metal rails on the slanted shelves... I hope that isn't scrapped... I think it will be the icing on the whole of your fabulous work... I am totally impressed with everything you've done in your home... I look forward to every show...
@@kimberbell4238 BILLY Bookcase from IKEA
Drew I have to say I was skeptical about the bookcases but they came out absolutely stunning! I think instead of the rosettes I would’ve done a brass rail to match the lamps and then I would’ve filled that area with plants! But I’m super happy that you’re in love with it 😍😍
Oooooo I love the idea of the brass rail especially if he’s going to put them on the slanted shelves plus the brass lamps *chef kiss*
I know the piece over the door was meant to link the two together, but sad that the natural light won’t be able to move up to the vaulted ceilings. Kind of makes it feel gloomy up there, and the doors feel trapped and caged off. But love that Drew finds exactly what he loves and goes with it! Not for everyone, but so creative and fun!
I would call the trim pieces across the top dental molding
I have a white ikea bookcase that I’ve put behind my bedroom door as we are short on storage and it was away of hiding or disguising it, but now I think it needs a bit more attention.
@@deniseenglish5306 I was thinking the same thing. I personally would not have not used the rosette bullseye but turned them around as to try to accomplish more of a dental molding look if I was trying to achieve this look. I love you Drew and the most important thing is you love it as it's your space and whatever makes your heart sing is the right decision for you!
I love the step you built. That was a great idea to use the wood from Lowe's. Great job! I can't wait to see the bookshelf with the metal rods attached.
WOW WOW WOW the shelves look so amazing. I was thinking that whole wall would look too busy and heavy with the door and shelves but it actually came out INCREDIBLE especially when you painted them to match the walls. You’re such an AMAZING designer. Can’t believe you started out doing little apartment DIYs! Bravo to you drew!
You are tooooo sweet Kari thank you so much for this sweet comment ❤
I've noticed that in most cases, a full wall of built-ins in the wall colour look less busy than a couple units or mid-height drawer piece. As long as you take care to leave some shelves almost empty with only decor it's going to appear as less heavy. It also appears to be taking less space in the room because you still have a straight wall.
The bookcases look absolutely great but I’m not a fan of the upper trim. I find it fights with the vault and distracts from the entire piece. It’s just my personal preference though.
What's amazing about Drew & McCenna are their Abilities to Learn and try out New Things and stepping out of their Comfort Zones to Create whatever their Brains can imagine ...LoVe that in Anyone's Soul, it's What makes Stars Designer & Achievers pushing "Oneself" to Their utmost Creative Expression 💝
Which is what I LoVe in Great Design 💕💕😻
Thank goodness the doors are mounted no more falling over, that took 10 yrs off my life lol. I love watching each new thing being finished and completed. Wow just so beautiful
Lol me too!!! I think I fainted once 🤤
Creativity + meticulous attention to detail + technical knowhow = perfection. Well done, yet again, Drew.
I love what your doing with this house. your improving and restoring its beauty when some other designer would have gone with modern trends, blown out the walls for that open floor plan everyone has to have, put up subway tile and slapped white paint on everything. what your doing is classic and will not be out dated in 5-7 years when the next trend comes along, keep doing your own thing.
I was right there with Justin when he said "they look interesting", when you asked about the rosettes. But once again, you have an eye and a creativity to come up with and deliver remarkable results.
Am I crazy or was the outro blacked out for like a minute? Drew this looks so good! Bravo.
Yeah from 19:56 the screen just went black for me :/ Have a feeling a missed some gorgeous b-roll. It is absolutely gorgeous though. Cozy and chic!
Same here!
Me too
Not crazy. Have the same.
Same
Did something go wrong in editing? The ending looks off :/
Yes, goes black at 19:50 for me u til the end. Just music. I’m DYING for the reveal!!
The bookcases surrounding the doors make it look like a chateau door. So beautiful
Yes ! 😭
Love it! The Gothic style you have throughout your house reads castle vibes to me. So I think the rosettes lean into the castle vibes. I am here for it. The bookcases are stunning!
Yes! Im going for a charming castle vibe that doesn’t lean scary!
@Lone Fox I love that. So far you are successful!
Drew, love the bookcases. Have you thought about adding small LED lights that shine up to the ceiling running behind the rosettes? Place them midway the depth of the shelves, and maybe even see if you can change the color of the lights to go with whatever mood you want to give. I’m not meaning a strip of lights but a row of 2-3” round lights. It would highlight those beams that are on your wall. I think that would be dramatic! And I know you like drama 😂
Great idea.
I Like that!
I love lighting options to change things up..
Exactly what I was coming here to say!
Great idea
Drew, not only are you talented designer, you’re becoming a skilled craftsman! Bravo! Looks amazing and the chairs, like icing on the cake!!
I wish you put the 2nd chair farther apart because it blocks the beautiful stained glass doors. Maybe it isn't an issue when you are really in the room but on video??❤ The bookcases are fantastic.
I think the rosettes are fussy, love the rest.
Drew love your project. Not a fan of the rosettes. But everything else wonderful. Like the idea of the slanted shelf
I was going to say the same thing! I don’t care for the rosettes, but I love everything else.
That's ok! It's all personal preference :)
@@lonefox Yes, personal preference. But I kept thinking how beautiful some of your vases, jars, baskets would look on top of the shelves....
@@lonefox The rosettes add a gothic feel to those bookcases. Like a castle in the distance.
ADORE
I would, like the rosettes better if they had a solid board behind them.
From 19:50 to the end it's all black screen! I have a feeling we're missing the full reveal 😭
Same here
I for one, love the bookcases, IMO no home should be without them. Love how you transformed them so they look like they’ve always been there. I think the chairs were worth the investment, and the amber gold chenille looks fabulous! Everything you’ve done suits that beautiful original ceiling. Love it ❤❤
I love the way your videos are structured. Although we’ve seen clips of the book shelves in other videos, I love seeing it from the start! Thanks for all the time and effort you put into this!
Love the bookshelves, hate the top trim’s
tbh i dont know if its just me but the ''trim'' on the top ... idk it doesnt seem to go, and id have painted the bookcases the same dark color as the door so it looked like a giant piece with the door included, but its a great idea
I agree about the top trim. Looks a little too castle themed
NO Trim On Top… doesn’t match. Use the top for decor.
Not a fan of the top part, i think it takes away from the doors. I really think old bookcases or something smaller beside those lovely doors would have been nicer.. Or painted dark so they don't compete with the doors.. Not my fav at all.
Drew, I've been watching your videos since you were making one of your first rental apartment a beautiful space and taking us on your journey. I have to say that I am thoroughly enjoying your new home's makeover. I am so proud of you. Wishing you all the success you deserve with much love. 🥂❤️
Thank you so much Rebecca for the support over so many years!!!
i love love love the results specially with the small squares on the top of the shelves! so cute and came so well together
Just a heads up, the last few minutes of the video are black with just music. I have a feeling that was not intended!
Drew, when I think back on everything you’ve worked on and completed-the windows; refinishing, scraping, adding munitions-the paint, the fireplace, the stained glass-now the built-ins! It really is all in the details. It’s all so amazing! Kudos to Justin and Maria as well!
Book cases look amazing. I’m not a rosette fan, but understand why you incorporated them into your design. Love the lights inside the book cases. I think some warm white dim lighting behind the rosettes would accentuate the architecture on the ceiling and give you a warm cozy vibe to that side of the room. Thanks for sharing.
If you’re going for comfy castle vibes you found them 🏰 the bookcases frame those gorgeous stained glass doors perfectly. What a warm, inviting space. Love what you’ve done with the place! ❤
I AM!!
Instead of the Rossets on top, I think it would have looked a little nicer to have done something similar to the ceiling beam design on top of the bookcases. Just my 2 cents.
The rosettes look more Roman than anything. I thought you said you were going to try to keep it spanish design?
Oh wow, that idea with the slanted shelves and those lights is perfect! I'm a fan of architecture and interior design books so totally stealing that and try to make it work in my home so I can display them better
Oh Drew holy cow Drew. Seriously a bow down to you. Your work is phenomenal. I love everything you’ve done and how you brought light into the room. The details to the bookcases make it from an ordinary functional to statement a Gorgeous statement. Oh, and putting the rosettes along the very top spaced out Makes a little bit like a castle with the mid evil beans in light fixtures. I hope I’m explaining this the way I mean for it to come out. Just plain or just a piece of molding just would not have carried the style of the ceiling and the beams and everything up there down into the walls the bookcases the incredible gorgeous, unique vintage French doors. It just wouldn’t have accented them to this level. And what you did at the bottom of those French doors. Holy moly they’re not just functional in those beautiful doors there. Oh no, it’s a piece of art just from the floor to the bottom of those doors. I love it love it love it every little tiny detail not just the big ones are mine blowing. Can’t wait to see what you do next. I am enjoying this so much Drew thank you thank you thank you. Oh, and the Monterey chairs are so uniquely perfect. They bring like the structure and strength of that mid evil/Art Deco era altogether. The detail on the sides I feel completely in love with so something I would love to get my hands on. There’s so unique and rare and one-of-a-kind really. So like each piece is a little different. And the resources you have discovered to buy really unique pieces for your home like that antique stone sink, I think, from like turkey, amazing. This home is truly becoming more and more of a work of art. Thanks for taking us along to these unique shops, which I would never get to explore and enjoy. If not for you. I am so very much living vicariously through you. I’m a 60-year-old Mama/Nana in the Pacific Northwest and I pretty much spent my life changing diapers and flipping tortillas lol. But I learned so much from you that I save up and get little pieces here and there and you and MacCenna have really influenced me in ways I never imagined I’d be influenced into a totally different direction. My style is definitely Mexican BoHo. But I’ve introduced neutrals like creamy off whites which I never really saw is my style and now I’m in love with. I also love, your choice of fabrics texture, even more than color that you chose for your chairs. Actually, I love all the things you’ve had reupholstered or done yourself. But chenille not like the chenille and bedspreads, but the chenille like in throw blankets and like you did on your chairs, I am passionate about. Thank you so much for taking me a long your journey. It’s turning out to be quite the ride.
Mikki you sound like a very amazing Mama, I bet your children are sooo proud of you!!!!
What a wonderful comment 😍 Spoken like a true fan!
there is something so addicting and euphoric about watching you approach your DIYs. You make it look so easy and fun, and I appreciate that so much about your videos. The main reason I love design is the problem solving aspect of it, and you are constantly solving problems and making things look so seamless and beautiful. amazing job!
The doors, the shelves, the finishing touches, everything looks amazing!!! I think the end of the video is missing the video because there is only audio.
Okay I’m glad I’m not the only one confused by that!
I was thinking the same thing cause it goes black for me too
OMG! I had a little outro there and for some reason it just didn't export! So sorry about that
OMG First the screen darkened>>> so no one could see it's completion was right after you placed the cushions on the chairs😢. Was 😢disappointed also because I thought you Said you were adding brackets of brass to the front of those slanted shelves ?🤔 Did U 🙉 hear that Wrong ?? Therefore ,I Can't comment as I haven't Seen the total vision>>> Yet 😮 but was thinking those bookshelves were going to be painted darker to stand out like the beams and dark furniture to ADD more of an Ancient Spanish or Vintage Library Room
Aesthetically 😮 For it wouldn't have been painted lighter
Did I 🙉 Hear "You wrong" today and Speak 🙊 too soon but not Seeing 🙈Everything is 😮 Frustrating 😢💔
Things Happen 😮
Still LoVe Your Ideas 💡
I am so so happy you really leaned into the medieval aspect of the design. It's so hard to find modern interpretations/DIYs that look editorial rather than cheap and kitschy 😍
That step is setting off my ocd tho, it's way too narrow for the average foot 😂
I love, love, love your creativity Drew. And the fact that you are not afraid to take chances or try new things.
Drew, everything looks great! I love how you took simple IKEA bookshelves and completely redid them to look like they are built-ins! The Monterey chairs are absolutely stunning and look amazing with the rug you have down!
Love the cushion cover colour. Also like that you are adding a metal rack on the display shelves.
Not only are you amazingly talented, creative, and energetic, you are so fun to watch. This project looks fabulous. I may try the bookcases. You've given me courage.
It is amazing how your viewers truly care about you Drew....haven't even met you but am so glad you're wearing g a mask.....when sanding.
Has Justin come around on the rosettes? The way he said "I think it's interesting" reminded me of when you don't like something (or not sure) but don't wanna say it lol 😅
The bookcases look STUNNING! I cannot believe how much character the rosettes add! Stealing that idea for sure. 🤗❤️
Wow love how it all came together..what a transformation..great job..I think everyone needs a Drew and MaCenna in their life..❤
I had my doubts about the bookcases. I should have known as usual Drew makes them look Amazing.❤️
The bookshelves came out Great! They look totally luxe and as if they were always part of the room ! Great job ❤
Love the chairs and that fabric is amazing. I just want to curl up with a good book and a cup of tea.
You are so talented and do such beautiful work. I hope you are proud of yourself and are enjoying your lovely home. ❤
OMG - what an incredible transformation and the chairs are amazing! Can't wait to see more - Love you Drew and Crew!!!!
Your attention to detail is absolutely wonderful. You've given me so many ideas. The shelves look fabulous!
LOVE LOVE LOVE the idea that you put into designing the bookshelves. You had a vision and went for it. Looks Beautiful.🥰❤️
Love the bookcases. Not sure about the rossette trim on top.I think I would back them with wood to give them the depth without the Cheap itsy bitsy look. They look like they don't belong there.
I was thinking the same, why not use real dental molding?
Omg yes, I've been waiting for this exact video! Ever since you told us your plans for the bookcases I've wanted to see how it'd turn out. Great job again, Drew (and Justin and Marie)!
Everything looks great Drew! The built-ins turned out beautifully! Love the color of them and the walls. The chairs are beautiful! I LOVE that color fabric, and can't wait to see what's next. Overall, everything looks fantastic!!❤ You all work so hard, but the results are so worth it!❤
Y’all were so skeptical about these bookcases but as always Drew delivered. Thanks for sharing the process, I’m remembering the tips for my own home. Can’t wait to see them styled!
I love the addition of the step in front of the doors. That really looks good. Nicely done on the bookcases. Can't wait to see them all decorated.
the rosettes were a daring choice, but i’m glad you went for it! they look so much better than i expected. i should’ve known you could pull it all together!
hmm it’s nice but i still don’t like the doors being so enclosed by the shelves. just feels cramped to me, but the shelves definitely look good on their own, just feel like it cramps it up next to the doors and the windows. Wish it could have been on another wall
Seeing how much your design aesthetic has grown from the first time I came across your channel (and subscribed) last 2018 makes me so incredibly proud of you xx
Murphy's oil soap will keep those floors beautiful in-between waxing. The shelves are awesome and the color of those chairs are so good.❤
What a beautiful job you did. Can’t wait to see the finished product, amazing!!
OMG, the bookshelves are gorgeous Drew, yall did a great job!!!
Yep the bookshelves do look amazing..such a clever add with the steps..love the fact you just don’t design but actually get stuck in…a very talented young man..
I saw the negative comments on Instagram and Im so sad, that people think, your home its made for them... Its what you love and what you want to have in your HOME. the whole room commes sooo nice together, I live in Europe and this is great example of the design here. You do a great job!
I hope we get a video all about how you style the shelves!! I have a floor to ceiling built in bookcase in my 1940s cottage home and I’m so overwhelmed by the shelves!! It’s been two years in the home and I still don’t feel like they are right 🤪. Everything looks amazing!!!!! ❤❤❤❤
I absolutely love the bookcases , all of your efforts have paid off ten-fold . I have a wall of bookcases in my front room . So elegant .
The Monterey chairs are gorgeous in that Amber chenille; & in front of that focal library wall !Bliss ! Well done , young man , well done !
The bookshelves are awesome! Thank you for inspiring me to do my bookshelves. Your whole house is to die for!
I watch every video and admire how you keep developing. It feels like your creativity keeps evolving. Congratulations on all your well deserved accomplishments. You are so dedicated.
I agree with other comments about not really diggin' the rosettes on top of the bookshelves. I think a strip of the same egg and dart moulding you used around the doors would look great and would visually tie the doors to the shelving units. I was also hoping you'd paint the shelves dark brown to match the existing trim because I think this would tie the built ins to the rest of the room and make them look like they're original to the home.
Drew, love the bookcases!! Help, the outro was black from about 19:56. We are tortured with not seeing the styled shelves lol.
He said in the description that the outro didn't load
This is my favorite DIY you've done - very affordable and adaptable for home spaces.🥰
Great job on the shelving Drew - it looks as though it has always been there. Those chairs are gorgeous. Just love how this room is coming together.
Love the trim at the top! So glad you painted the shelves the same color as the walls. Oh and the fabric you used for the chair upholstery? OMG! Just love it! ❤
I love you for respecting the original vibe of this home. Most try to modernize every space by default without considering the original intent. You however , pay homage while bringing it all into this time period tastefully and beautifully
Everything you do is classic and stylish I love it so much!!
You sir have an old soul and I am here for it ❤
I gotta say....I was a skeptic....but I love this!
Was afraid u would go dark with the stain but I love that u kept it light and matching the walls! And the rosettes? A nice touch! I love of the visual interest it gives
Oh I love this, really can't wait for your next video! I want to see how you style them! Absolutely obsessed with your house renovation at the moment
Lol Justin “ that’s interesting..” drew “I love it”
Drew, the rosettes on top?
Pure genius! Reminds me of dental moulding. ❤️
The sopranos style ending really kept me on my toes!!
DREW!!! So pretty!!! I love the bookshelves and trim, they look amazing!
Ohhhh it is stunning! Definitely saving this for my next house! We have lots of IKEA bookcases that I’d love to do something like this with but we’re hoping to sell in a couple of years so I don’t want to get crazy with a bunch of DIY projects haha
It is funny how people from the US think having concrete houses is crazy 🤭
I love you Drew, Justin & Merrie. Love those bookcases and chairs. Would love to see more, please.
I would LOVE to see this room at night where it wouldn’t be so backlit! Especially with all the warm lamps and lights on. Omg
I have a feeling by the ends of this video, there will be some people wondering why they ever doubted Drew ❤
I'm loving all the things you are doing to the house Drew, wouldn't it be great if we could stay at that house for a day? 🤣
Drew you are unbelievable. I have the Billie bookcases and enjoy having them in my small dining room. Your ideas to trim and connect them is amazing.
The shelves look AMAZING!!!! Awesome job everyone!❤
Are there 2 minutes of the video missing at the end, or is it only me?
Is the end only for me completely black? Without any video? 😢 I couldn’t see the end result :(
Always such a great job on your build projects. You've taken those book shelves up a notch, they look wonderful Drew.
Drew, you definitely put your magic touch on these IKEA bookshelves because it most definitely looks like a built-in custom unit... I'm in luv again🤩🧡
Hilarious to me that so many people were like “the bookcases look soooo cheap no don’t do it!” Like… obviously they looked cheap before lol, that’s why you said from the beginning that you were going to overhaul them
Right? He said he was going to DIY to look like a built-in. You gotta trust the process. 😂
Drew, I love you and your content, but you really need to get rid of the castle trim on the top and add doors to the bottom row to help anchor the shelves by giving it more visual weight at the bottom.
You made a believer out of me with those upgraded bookcases, but I agree the rosette trim needs to be removed. I know you will be accessorizing the bookcases and it will be too much. A very subtle uplighting on top of bookcase would be nice also. Those chairs are divine! Love the sconces and the paint stick spacers is so smart. The step with timbers is genius!
I trusted your process from the start Drew, you've proven time and again that you know what's going to look amazing. At the end of the day, it is your home, and while others as viewers may prefer different bits and pieces, it's your home! Of course, it is to your taste and liking, which, by the way, I happen to love. Just stunning! The bookshelves showcase those gorgeous doors, and the trim feature across the top of the bookshelves fits so well with the overall style of your home. Well done 🧡🤎🩶 from Australia.
That space is going to be stunning when completed. Can't wait!
Drew crew checking in!!!💙
I don't like the rosettes
Another great job 👍👏😊that was a lot of steps but in the end it was so worth it - the picture lights add so much! 💕
Absolutely beautiful! You know, the top trim, the rosettes, which I agree were a great, inspirational design solution, give a medieval castle vibe, which totally works.
When Drew said "circle medallion thingies", my mind was like "That's a rosette." I was so proud MaCenna instilled that word in my brain from watching her cottage renovation videos.
The bookcases are beautiful but the outro and final look was blacked out for me. 😩 What happened?
That is perfection! I couldn't imagine how good it would eventually turned out. You are all such a good team!
Once again, I love everything. You can and will do so many things with those bookcases. I’m in love. Especially with the added trim and pieces on the top! It perfectly finishes that space. Yay! And those built in lights are gorgeous with it. Thanks for another great video!
