Looks great mate! Did you at one point ever consider using a steamer the water seems to stretch materials much better than the heat gun alone. Basically a trade secret 🤫
The factory extended leather door cards have the seam running high up on the card and behind the centre cloth section, rather than at the bottom. This line then ties into a seam that runs along the bottom half of the dash board too. Not all the E36 doorcards have a centre panel which detaches either unfortunately - some (like mine) are one piece. Trying to track down a set myself so I can do the MRain cloth to match the rest of my interior.
Great channel 👌 Great source of inspiration, and as no professional wants to touch the interior of my car without asking for one of my two kidneys, this is probably how i will end doing it. Thanks for sharing ! Always said my 328is will be my coffin, if i would sell it, i don’t know what i would buy instead, and probably buy another one…😂
Thanks mate, appreciate it. I'd be the first to admit that I am no professional upholsterer. I wanted to get as close to OEM as possible and make it easy for people to replicate at home.
On some vinyls you can peel off the cloth backing (with enough determination) which helps MASSIVELY with stretch. Maybe it would be possible to do the vinyl in a single piece like that. It´s been a while since I´ve had my door cards apart but iirc that´s how the oem vinyl is, no backing. The only downside I´ve found is the vinyl will tear when you go beyond max stretch without enough heat but it´s pretty easy to get used to.
Yeah thats a good point actually. When I removed to old vinyl there was no cloth backing. Thinking back, the cloth backing on the vinyl I used didn't seem like it would come off easily
@@thedetailformula7046 Yeah there´s different backings, I don´t think any are designed to peel off put some do. The backing is also what determines the stretch direction. Most are more stretchy in one direction than other. Your two piece design worked out good too👌
Salute mate, First things first awesome job!!! I’m kind of in the middle of reupholstering my door cards too and I’m curious how much m rain fabric do I need for door panels and seats front and back. Will appreciate your help Much thanks! My car is 328i coupe just in case :)
Amazing detailed video bro. I just took mine out to reglue the plastics at the back to make them stay on door properly but now i think i need to do this while there off. Can you please share link to get rails for the top to connect to the door please. Cheers love content your chanels underated keep it up for us e36 lovers and owners
Very nicely and well explained! I was thinking though, what if you would cut out the holes for the pockets before you add the vinyl? Maybe then you can make it out of 1 piece? But I like your solutions aswell, it looks professional!
Thanks mate! I think cutting the holes might work but would be pretty tough to know how big they should be and where to put them. Pretty easy to make mistakes I think. Don’t know till you try it I guess!
Yeah I’m sure you can but I struggled. After a couple of failed attempts I decided to go the 2 piece route and I’m really happy with it. It may have been the vinyl I used being not stretchy enough, not sure. Or just not talented enough! 😂
Finally , someone addressing those damn pockets that scare away even experienced trimmers! Subscribed
Thank you mate!

I went to a prfessional shop first and they wouldn't even touch it! Couldn't believe it. Next shop was going to charge over $1000 per door card....
Realy good job.thumbs up. But with just a few sewing seams it would give the vinyl a custom touch...

Awesome Job!!! Hope when it gets warm in the car the glue you use does it s job

Hey mate, the door cards used about 1.5m I'd say. At a guess you'd need at least another 5m to do the seats

what gorrila glue did you use? Link?
Great video. Where did you get the speakers?
Hey mate, they are just the stock ones. I think I’ll upgrade all the speakers at some point. After wheels and suspension though!
Where did you get the mrain fabric?
I actually got the fabric from Etsy. Seller was called Berry I think. I just found the foam backing was to thick but it was easy to pull off
You can do the whole card from one piece I have done it but you need to carefully and patient
