Week Recap: Pop Up Showers, Groundwork, and a Whole Lotta Harvest

- It’s been a busy week here at Holbert Farms! I didn’t get a whole lot of footage most of the week…I figured it would be better to get back in the swing of things, so here’s a brief summary on the first few days and then the last two days of the week. A tractor cab in the summer, without AC, is like a sauna. I have been there and is not fun. In the old days, an open station tractor let you get a little breeze with dirt, bugs, etc.
I remember so many times never making it into the house. Slept in the barn, washed up with a hose in the morning and back at it.

Exhausting but fulfilling!
When I shower it always wakes me back up. I too have crashed on the cool floor a few times myself after a long hot sweaty day of grueling outdoor work. My back never lets me forget that afterward, lol.
Been there, done that. Always a treat to wake up in the filthy clothes from the day before.
What an unbelievable amount of work goes into farming, most people dont even have a clue! The country could not even survive without the farmers...they really need to be paid what they are worth!

I'm amazed at all a farmer has to overcome- equipment breakdowns, weather issues, any number of other things, and yet you all keep going and getting the job done! Nice video and thanks for posting this!

That's so sweet Erin! Dad's will always feel like they need to be the last one to leave the battlefield and make sure everyone on else is safe before they come home. It's what Dad's do.

Hey Erin I'm really glad we have great young people carrying on farming and feeding the country. You rock kid. PS Erin you can sleep when harvest is over. Try taking care of 500 acres of alfalfa in the summer here in Oklahoma. You live in the hay field till fall. Then we sleep. Just giving you a hard time girl don't get mad at a fellow farmer.

You're right about that tractor that the ac wasn't working in. VDOT bought some 6610 Ford tractors with a cab and no ac that I ran 24 years ago. U couldn't open the door on the right side because it had a Alamo brush cutter on it plus the left side had a 50 gallon hydraulic tank with heat coming from it. It got real hot in them.

You have a glow on your face, or heat exhaustion! I drove a tractor once with no air. I know why our water bill went up for those couple of days. .I really enjoy your video's. I find them informative and a pleasure to watch you do your daily duties.. But your different than most.you seem to be very comfortable doing your duties. Yep gotta take care of us old folks... Lord I remember times when the air would quit but you had to keep going. Before cabs all we had was one of those cloth canopy tops. If we got caught in a storm I would turn the tractor sideways to the wind and crawl inside the dual tires on the opposite side. I'll bet your dad remembers the days before cabs and I know Bob probably does. I don't know how old your dad is but I am 62. Times and equipment have really changed over the years. Glad harvest is going smoothly. Enjoyed your tenderloin video. Going to ask my wife to try it.

The planting and harvesting equipment technology used in modern times is so complicated. So many moving parts and so many components operated with hydraulics. It's amazing that there aren't more issues. It's a testament to American know-how. I've learned so much about modern farms from watching Erin's videos. Even now-a-days it's a hard road.

Well done Erin another great video pal. Love the harvest time. It’s my favourite time of year. Love to see the farmers all harvest at roughly the same time. The corn harvest is ma favourite grain closely followed by beans.
