3:12 Kayla I literally freaked out seeing my face in your video!! You inspired me to start my channel, and have influenced a lot of those books, bunny especially. You always raise up smaller creators such as myself, and that is one of the many reasons why I love the bookish community!
12:09 Pirate Book Rec: Touch of Gold. Cant remember the author but its a king Midas retelling, starring his daughter on a pirate ship. It's cozy with a touch of soft magic and a little love story all built in. Also, Pirates.
Once more - the dedication? The commitment? The work? I never doubted my decision to become a member for even one second for these exact reasons. We are truly blessed!
This new series is gonna be my Super Bowl like…. The way tress of the emerald sea was on my faves of year this year, ones company faves of the year 2022 (Ive never watched the show either but i loved the book anyways),secret lives of church ladies on faves of the year 2021, and really enjoyed the doctor of doctor moreau…. The centre and cleopatra and Frankenstein on my TBR… only like 10 minutes into this vlog and I’m so seated!!
Ahhh I look forward to this video every single year and I LOVE the ideas of reading a few book recs from each platform and putting them against each other 😂 how fun!!! 👏 can’t wait to see which one wins!
Omg I can’t believe you included me in this again 🥹 But you have no idea how happy I am about the book you chose from my list!!! If I could’ve picked one for you, it would’ve been that one! 😍
So excited for this video! So glad that you ended up liking Tress of the Emerald Sea, I was not sure when you picked it! lol! Excited to check out some new to me Booktubers and check out a few new books! Also so excited to be included! Thank you Kayla!!
the heart palpitations i had watching this knowing i'd be mentioned, pleasant surprise to know we had so many in common! wow thank you i don't know how to feel :-)
I DNF'd Skyward, DNF'd the Mistborn trilogy and then Tress was so freaking fun it was an easy 5 stars for me. I also called the twist. And that quote you read from was amazing; I also noted that one while reading.
So excited that you’re making this a four part series. I absolutely loved the adventures of Amina Al-Sirafi so definitely convinced to check out Tress of the Emerald Sea
I recognize I Who Have Never Known Men in the blurred images! That was one of my favorite books of 2023 and a new all time favorite. It felt very Margaret Atwood-esque
If you wanted to do a vlog around pirates or sea adventure books, I recommend The Faceless Old Woman Who Secretly Loves In Your Home by Joseph Fink and Jeffrey Cranor
I have been having such a horrible week- and being able to watch this as a distraction has been so uplifting. Kayla- your channel has become a comfort place for me to watch your videos and hear how you talk about books it is is truly a place I can come to if I need something to watch to silence these thoughts in my head. I often don’t comment on videos but just today felt like I wanted to let you know how thankful I am for your channel❤
This is one of my favorite videos you do. I love how some people hate books that sone people love and vice versa. Reading is so personal. Two people can read the same book but have totally different experiences with it and I love that.
That's such a cool idea for a video series!! Also, a great guessing game. I think I recognize: The Wonder State from Bookstagram Her Majesty's Royal Coven from booktok The last one from Besties looks so familiar, but it's not coming to me😝
Predictions so far (still trying to figure out four of em): Booktok-- Biography of X, Her Majesty's Royal Coven, Born a Crime, I Who Have Never Known Men, ???? (looks like an isolated house, something horror/thriller) Bookstagram-- Maeve Fly, ???, The Wonder State, Minor Detail, The Quiet Tenant Besties-- The Vanished Birds, ???, The Six Death of the Saints, ???, Interesting Facts About Space
I just found Lone Woman on my library sale shelf for a dollar. I'm glad you didn't totally hate it, I'm probably going to save it for late summer. I read Sanderson's Skyward, Starsight, and Tress of the Emerald Sea and, while I liked them all, I definitely preferred the writing style in Tress. As for The Centre having a low average rating, I've found many of my favorite books having a 3.something Goodreads score, so I try (not always successfully) not to let ratings influence what I decide to pick up and read.
I read Maeve Fly this month and while I do not usually vibe with extreme horror, I actually really enjoyed it. It was so compulsive, can't look away. I'm super excited to hear your thoughts on it lol
I read and really liked "One's company" without even knowing the show was real, I googled it half way trough haha. So it can defiantly be enjoyed without knowledge or interest in the show. :)
I’m so glad you enjoyed What a Match! Mimi Grace has become an auto-buy author for me at this point, and I would highly recommend all of her books but especially Along for the Ride and Take a Hike. Can’t wait to hear your thoughts on more of her books in the future!
Oh man, i would live to see a follow up series or video where you go to those that you had a book with a lower rating to and have them recommend what you should have read.
i looove the idea of turning this into a mini competition hehe. i didnt add my favorite books to the members list bc it's all old stuff, but i hope we win :-)
I'm seeing Maeve Fly, Biography of X, that one pink Delilah S. Dawon book that I am forgetting the name of, I Who Have Never Known Men, and Interesting Facts About Space :)
I’m sad you didn’t like DISORIENTATION. I absolutely loved it. I read it in June, a month before I defended my PhD dissertation last year and really related to it, but I also love books about academia and all of the scripts and novels that I write deal with academia. But not every story is for everyone.
Episode 2 is out!! ua-cam.com/video/oliMjNXuWcc/v-deo.htmlsi=0YgGG4iKtKHYHt87
Being chosen for this video is like the booktube equivalent of the met gala
Omg love this!!
Exactly!
I totally agree!!
you’re so real for this
Yes!
Forget Christmas, Kayla’s BookTuber’s Favourites video is the greatest time of the year 🎉🎉🎉

this is one of the videos im most looking forward to each year, so the fact that we are getting 4 parts of this feels like a gift

I love how Interesting Facts About Space has such a unique cover that I spotted it so easily for Episode 4 lol
😂 That was the only book I could figure out
me too 😅
Same, I’ll have to read if before she releases her video reading it.
I also instantly recognized I Who Have Never Known Men from Booktok!
The Secret Lives of Church Ladies is a phenomenal short story collection! The writing is stunning and the stories are interconnected.
Yes!! I agree!
Love this one!
AGREE! I ate up the book in one sitting, and I'm a slow reader
One of my favourites of last year and made me change my mind on short stories!!
By far, the best short story collection I've ever read. 5⭐️
I love the twist you’re doing on the video this year & can’t wait to see the rest of the series!! 🎉
Ahhh I look forward to this video every single year and I LOVE the ideas of reading a few book recs from each platform and putting them against each other 😂 how fun!!! 👏 can’t wait to see which one wins!

So glad you liked it

I would love to see you do this with booktubers who don’t match your reading taste as much!!
ooh that would be interesting!
I love how this series spotlights creators! It’s such a fun sampling of the community ❤️
You did it in time!!
I am so excited about the fact that you turned this into a series this year!!
You should do this series again but with these people’s worse books of the year 😂❤
This is such a fun idea!! I love hearing you talk about each book; the variety is so refreshing. Can’t wait to watch the rest of the series! 💕
Lots of great books out there. New to book tube and finding my way around. I hope everyone gets some great reads this year.
Hahaha I was thinking about your “I don’t like books set on boats” thing just yesterday (when someone recommended me a book set on a boat)
Rewatching in anticipation of this year's!
I recognize I Who Have Never Known Men in the blurred images! That was one of my favorite books of 2023 and a new all time favorite. It felt very Margaret Atwood-esque
I love it when you do book series/challenge like thingies😊 let's gooooo💃🏾
If you wanted to do a vlog around pirates or sea adventure books, I recommend The Faceless Old Woman Who Secretly Loves In Your Home by Joseph Fink and Jeffrey Cranor
ahhh i'm so excited for you to read her majesty's royal coven!!! i recognised that neon pink pixelated cover so easily hahah

I read The Centre around september last year and I am still thinking about it, such a great book
This was so fun!! I loved Tress 💚
I look forward to catching up on this series and seeing which platform will win! :D
I'm so excited you picked Tress of the Emerald Sea up.
I read Maeve Fly this month and while I do not usually vibe with extreme horror, I actually really enjoyed it. It was so compulsive, can't look away. I'm super excited to hear your thoughts on it lol

LOOOVED THE CENTRE & i also compared it to catherine house meets babel!
i LOVE that you had the Strawhat Pirate’s ship on your shelves from one piece in the background when u were talking about being in ur pirate era!! ❤
Oooh, we also got a teaser trailer for the next video! Love that for us 😊
I’m so glad you enjoyed What a Match! Mimi Grace has become an auto-buy author for me at this point, and I would highly recommend all of her books but especially Along for the Ride and Take a Hike. Can’t wait to hear your thoughts on more of her books in the future!

Favorite video I look forward to every year where did you get your necklace from? (In the clip of you chopping veggies lol!) I’m obsessed!
Oh man, i would live to see a follow up series or video where you go to those that you had a book with a lower rating to and have them recommend what you should have read.
the thousand sunny model ship in the back at 15:58 is so surprising! Who is the one piece fan in her house?
