dinosaurs? wow, I hope she'll never run out of this amazing ideass
“I’m the bitch who reads 200 books a year and doesn’t know shit about shit” I love you Kayla 😂
That quote should go on t-shirt!
I need it !!! Give me the shirt or the mug or the sticker 😂
So now we need a vlog with dragon books! 🐲🐉😎
But also a fairy one ☺
Yes!,
As a dragon bitch, I concur entirely 🎉 Also, it's almost the Year of the Dragon!
Dragons for year of the dragon!
I recommend The Enchanted Forest Chronicles by Patricia Rede. It's middle-grade and I loved it so much when I read it at that age, and I still think back on it as my favourite dragon literature.
New challenge: intentionally read books that you think will either be 1 or 5 stars since you haven't read a one star book in so long.
hahahahahaha now that's just inviting chaos 😅
@@BooksandLala we love chaos though 😂😂
@@BooksandLala come hither chaos, come hither
" hes referencing how small he is a lot. he's really giving Ali Hazelwood a run for her money" 😂💀
Such an absurd concept that the creation was guaranteed success. Just weird and whimsical enough to be intriguing while also off the cuff and wtf enough to be confusing and unpredictable. Loved it
My fav quotes from this vlog:
« no shame but this man has never touched a woman » 🤣
« he is giving Ali Hazelwood a run for her money » 🤣🤣
All with a straight face
If you want a really moving narrative about dinosaurs ever (or anyone else who is reading this), I HIGHLY recommend The Last Days of the Dinosaurs by Riley Black. It is emotional, well-informed, and centered on a specific part of the Rockies. I'm also pretty sure this book informed the producers of 65 (2023)--there were so many details that I just Knew they read Black's work. Also, Riley Black is a transgender person in science! She's very cool.
I love that you referred back to The Rise and Fall of the Dinosaur while talking about Dinosaurs. After I read Rise and Fall, I kept giving dino facts out in the most random conversations.
"she doesn't even have glasses cleaner" lmaooo
Why did I think the smut was going to be between a woman and an actual dinosaur😭
no because same
Ok, I am glad I am not the only one!! I was trying not think about how that would work 🙈
those books definitely also exist my friend has read a few 😭
@@beckyduff right?! Like what species are we talking about here 🤣
@@druidicnonsense oh yeah I know there’s all types of monster romance that’s why I thought it was gonna be one of them lmaoo
i would absolutely love to see a “what i unhaul after my end of the year video” video based on one of these 😂😂
1. So this year’s Halloween costume will be Pebbles, yes?
2. I think you were reading at night in the video and I didn’t see the glasses come out! You told us to remind you!
3. Since the dinosaur smut you read didn’t work out, I would recommend the Relic Series by Maz Maddox. My friend bought these for me as a joke, but I ended up actual enjoying them. Sink or Swim is my favorite of the series so far. You don’t really need to read them in order, but characters from the other books get mentioned.
the Relic series is so cute!! Not sure it will be Kayla's cup of tea tho
@@justjaq2319 I don’t think there will be any dinosaur smut series for Kayla, lol. I only suggested it as another smut option - one that isn’t sexist and isn’t just about trying to get in bed with someone.
We had a VHS copy of Jurassic Park when I was kid with that "3D" changing cover and it terrified me, so I never watched it, but now I want to. The Rise and Fall of Dinosaurs sounds great!
Omg you just unlocked that VHS memory for me 🤯
I found that edition in Goodwill for $1 and bought it for my husband as a stocking stuffer as he is a huge Jurassic Park fan.
I'm so happy you enjoyed The Rise and Fall of the Dinosaurs! :D I'm a big ol' science nerd so it's one of my favorite books, Steve Brusatte does such a good job of interweaving the science with the intrigue and discovery of dinosaurs in a way that's palatable for most readers. His other book, The Rise and Reign of the Mammals is just as good. You might also like Otherlands by Thomas Halliday, his writing is lovely and poignant and you'll learn so much!
I think this (and mermaids) is such a fun video concept!🧜♀️🦖
I would really love to see you read Ice Planet Barbarians by Ruby Dixon. I think you could enjoy it (I can’t tell you why because it might ruin the book and I won’t do that to anyone) and I’m sure you could come up with an excellent video idea for it. Plus if I’m being totally honest, I would get a good dose of dopamine at your reactions😂 Maybe you could do a video on alien books? There’s a whole world of books out there that you’re missing out on. 😂
Came here just to comment the same thing lol great minds think alike :)
@@Bellofthebujo I’m glad I’m not alone 😂😂
This series was such a journey for me. I’m OCD so I had to see the entiiiirrreee series through. Even the holiday specials hahaha. I really enjoyed it though. The smut was chefs kiss 😂
not a channel member but i thought i would share my personal history with jurassic park since you asked: my parents’ first date was going to see jurassic park in theaters! and to this day my mom swears it was a tactic my dad pulled to get her to hold his hand and like bury her face in his shoulder and stuff because she was scared haha
omg this vlog was so fun!! when my brother was very little (probably like 2-7) he was OBSESSED with dinosaurs and i mean OBSESSED!! he knew everything about them - once we went to the Natural History Museum in London and he was talking to the dinosaur experts there and they were like ummmmm....how do you know this haha - so anything about dinosaurs always feels very nostalgic to me!! maybe I'll pick up that non-fiction you read!
“Well according to… Steve” - love you referring back to the non-fiction book.
I read the rise and fall of dinosaurs last year. It’s honestly a really good book. Translates really well to audiobook as well.
I believe you can let your local library know what is going on & they will renew them over the phone. They might even tell you they will handle the sanitization themselves to follow certain restrictions.
In response to the mermaid comment, wow she’s really giving us top tier unique content. Love your ideas Kayla, they make my day. Keep up the good work!
I think you should rate books even if you're not the target audience. Bc honestly who IS the target audience of Dinosaur smut?
Horny paleontologists 😂
Dino smut is a whole new experience
I've seen some on Amazon, but it wasn't between humans.
Maybe unrelated but dinosaurs were my hyperfocus when I was a kid, and jurassic park is still one my favorite books of all time. who else was a dinosaur kid?
Same here, I’m still kind of obsessed, I have a tattoo and all 😅
Yep, also a former dinosaur kid who now has a dinosaur tattoo
They were never a special interest of mine (I was more of a wildlife kid) but I always found them fascinating and the Jurassic Park series was one of my favourites throughout my childhood!
my hyperfocus were birds 😂
Same! I wasn't a horse girl; I was a dinosaur girl. 😅
I didn't get to watch Jurassic Park with all the besties, but I just wanted to stay this was also my first movie I saw in the movie theater and I was 7 when it came out and I saw it. I still vividly remember going to see it and where I sat and everything.
I LOVE THIS VLOG! Dinosaur books are MY JAM! I have read MANY! The Rise and Fall of the Dinosuars is one of THE BEST non fics about dinosaurs! Jurassic Park is Iconic! I adore dinosaur books! Thank you! Also super excited about Wayward Children #9 :)
I buy so many dinosaur books for the library so this is making me so happy, especially the how do dinosaurs say “xyz”!
omg it just took me way too long to catch on to the fact that 'dating rocks' referred to finding out how old the rocks were vs. being romantic when them 😂 love how i just accepted that, too, like sure, it's dinosaurs, they might have dated rocks, what do I know
I know this is a self centered comment but this video could not have come at a better time. The museum where I live JUST had a Dinosaur exhibit and I've been procrastinating writing the notes I took when I went for a visit. I've also been thinking about getting and reading The Rise and Fall of Dinosaurs as I'm really into the topic at the moment, so I'm so glad this just came out!
loved seeing you so excited to learn new stuff while reading the non-fiction book!
We live in Alberta but we always visited with family in BC. In the summer we made sure to stop at Flintstones park and the Enchanted Forest.
I loved this vlog!!! My son is dinosaur obsessed and it was fun watching you discover Dinos. I was lucky enough to meet a paleontologist that worked on the Jurassic World movies at an animation conference in 2022, so this just brought me back to our crazy dinosaur talks.
And yes, my son will be the first one to tell you that birds are dinosaurs.
That Steve Brusatte book is so good I felt so smart when I finished it! I’m like I am now a Genius! lol 🤣
Your dedication is amazing, I love your channel!
Loved every moment regardless of how few dinos we had 🦕 🦖 ♥️
You have no idea how happy I was to spy My Hero Academia, Pokemon, AND Hunter x Hunter merch in Liam's room 😂😂
When you had the green jumper on and we’re curling your hair for some reason you really reminded me of Willow from buffy!!
Not me being a geologist and being so proud of you when you said isotopes!!! We love it! ❤❤
Only about 6 minutes in, but i just had to tell you that my son (who is also named Liam) ADORED How Do Dinosaurs Say Goodnight when he was little. I recently came across a video of him at like 3 years old ‘reading’ the book and it made me sob.
YESS i was going to say Fae or Werewolves? or OOOOHHH could you do based on a certain mythology? I've been reading Seana Kelly's Sam Quinn series and it has Were-animals and vampires but a LOT of the things are based off Greek mythology and I LOVE that. Another that has were-animals and fae is Patricia Brigg's Mercy Thompson series.
At work listening to this and I hear “has never touched a woman” and now I’m trying to keep my composure but all I want to do is cackle. Excellent delivery 😂😂😂
Loved this!!! Faeries or dragonssssss next?! 😋😋😋❤️
I vote for dragons
when you were talking about rise and fall, it reminded me of a discovery in 2023 when they found a new bone (?) in the t. rex that changes the placement of their arms. Like... thought we had that all wrapped up lol
The Rise and Fall of the Dinosaurs is part of my science/history tbr for the year so I’m excited!
Yes please, fairies next!! 🧚🏻
o m g listening to you explain how they calculate the age of rocks and stuff, I could literally feel my old brain pathways coming back to life from when I learned that in school 😂 also wtf people are STILL discovering dinosaurs (+ other old timey creatures)???? this is the kind of news I want to hear about! gonna have to brush up on my dino facts
IT'S HERE EVERYONE STAY CALM
this something I have always wanted but never knew I needed 😅 I’m so weirdly obsessed with Hollywood’s depictions of dinosaur and shark movies and have never even thought about reading a book about them until now 😅
It would be fun to see if you have any indie author viewers so you could do a vlog reading their books (this is totally me saying I'm an indie author and want you to read my book even if you hate it haha)
Raptor Red by Robert T Bakker is a very good dinosaur book! It was sort of like a nature documentary where it follows Raptor Red, a Utahraptor, throughout her life and the challenges and wins she faces. Maybe not 100% what you were looking for, but was very entertaining to read what dinosaurs may have actually been like!
I'm so taking this rec, thanks!
@@darcy501 You’re very welcome! It should be a nice quick read too!
YESSS! this is my favorite dinosaur book too! I love how we just get inside Red's head and somehow I can relate to her thoughts and feelings
creature vlogs suite you, i LOVED mermaid era. throwing this out there: i feel like dragons are the only logical next stop from here
A Dino book I remember vividly from childhood is Dinotopia. I loved flipping through the book and also loved the miniseries. Been years since I thought about it though!
I didn’t finish watching yet so idk if you mention any of this but there’s a book called Icepick Surgeon: Murder, Fraud, Sabotage, Piracy, and other dastardly deeds done in the name of Science (would definitely recommend, very interesting dark backstories about science but maybe read trigger warnings) There’s a paleontology chapter. There were 2 paleontologists who were petty rivals and it contributed a lot to the field out of spite / to be better than the other 😂
I loved watching you read Dino Island. Your facial expressions are the best!!!! 😂
Saying lala is running out of ideas is so silly because she has the best ideas on the internet
Holy Cow, A book series about dinosaurs, awesome and it cannot get any better with this and Life Always Finds A Way.
Great video analyzing the dinosaurs in the books and keep it up.
Does anyone remember all those books in the Dinotopia series... read those as a kid and now secretly want to reread the first book for nostalgia's sake. HAHA. Got to love dinosaurs! Thanks for another great video Kayla.
Not me not being able to focus on your overall review of Mislaid in Parts Half-Known because I am too busy looking at the GOLD HAND CURTAIN HOLDER! Stop it! I love it!
HAHAHA omg your facial expressions during the smutty dinosaur book 😂
Your breakdown of the rise and fall was soo funny and really made me want to read it! Love this new series of reading books about “monsters” hehe Take care! Glad you’re better
I loved Rise and Fall of the Dinosaurs!! Also this would've been the perfect time to read Dinotopia
I will admit I was a little disappointed not to see any Dinotopia books. Maybe they aren't as popular as I thought they were but they were my brother's favorite books and his son is currently reading them. I love these themed TBRs though. I've done it myself and find it fascinating the way authors approach what should be the same topic (nodding to the fact some of your books didn't center on dinosaurs as they advertised). I showed this video to my dinosaur loving brother and he loved it. I mean he rolled his eyes through the dinosaur smut, but he's just not a romantic 😆. I love your videos, thank you for being honest with your reviews and taking on interesting projects.
I think you would LOVE A Short History of Nearly Everything by Bill Bryson!
Thank goodness and I'm sorry you read The Paleontologist because it was a grind and I kept wondering if the book was the problem or if I was the problem. I LOL'd so hard when you said that the main character is probably going to crawl through some small hole, or something, because I also wondered why they mentioned his height so much!! And then... he didn't?! Disappointing, tbh. LOL but I agree with your rating. These videos are so good! Going to watch the mermaid one next
I looove that you said Luke "edgelord" Dumas should write cozy mystery i agree with everything you said about that book
You perfectly put into words how I felt about Mislaid in Parts Half-Known! 🦕 I can’t wait to see where Seanan takes the series next!!
A reminder to wear the glasses! Pd. I love these kind of videos that revolve around a common monster / creature.
snorted at "he's giving ali hazelwood a run for her money"
This is the first video I've ever seen from you and I just wanted to say... I really hope you dress up as Pebbles for Halloween this year. Life's short! Live your dreams! Thanks for the cozy content :)
I nearly bursted out loud laughing at her 16:45 reaction!
a read a few dinosaur book a while ago. I read two volumes of manga called Dinosaur Sanctuary, as well as the first magic tree house book. As well as a Veronica Speedwell book that had dinosaur bones in it.
I am still a dinosaur girl, just much older. 😅
Jurassic Park is still my favorite movie, and I have special editions of the books. The Rise and Fall of the Dinosaurs was an excellent choice and I'm so glad you enjoyed it. Brusatte also wrote The Rise and Reign of the Mammals; I haven't read it yet.
Faerie video legit needs to happen with how Emily Wilde went!
I saw the title and thought to myself 'I hope she reads one of those dinosaur smut books' lol and you delivered! Great video!
My first experience with jurassic park was when I was like 5 and we went to a double feature of the flintsones and jurassic park at the drive in, and I fell asleep halfway through the flintstones and woke up halfway through jurassic park.
I love how you called yourself out on the one-star-avoidance tactic, but I also think your justification makes sense. We don't need to rate everything.
There's a lot funny in this video but "According to STEVE" really just got me for some reason XD
Jurassic park and lost world are in my top 10 of all time.
The fact that the mermaid vlog was in 2020 shook me to my core😮
Immediately adding The Rise and Fall of the Dinosaurs to my wishlist!
My little girl LOVES the How Do Dinosaurs series ❤
My first experience with dinosaurs was The Land Before Time and it has haunted me ever since 😭
I’ve been waiting!!!!! Gah, I can’t watch it right now but I am SO EXCITED
I'm going to have to track down The Rise and Fall of the Dinosaurs! and yeah, scientists writing about their specialty is hella cool but then you want more books by them (The Ends of the World: Volcanic Apocalypses, Lethal Oceans, and Our Quest to Understand Earth's Past Mass Extinctions by Peter Brannen *cough cough* I love that one) but then there aren't any!
Watching you read the one book and seeing your reactions was hysterical. “She doesn’t even have glasses cleaner” 😂😂😂
I’m also always the Cry-ceratops in Happy Little Dinosaurs 😊
OMG KAYLA me and my roomies just played Happy Little Dinos this weekend and I also like to play as Cry Cearus 😂
I am 95% sure I went to that Flinstones park as a kid! I was beginning to think I made it up, because I never saw it again (we lived on the coast).
Just finished Rise and Fall of the Dinosaurs for my 24 of 2024. I agree that there's nothing wrong with it, and there's nothing I could suggest to improve it, but it's still 4 stars to me. Maybe because of how many dinosaur names and people names he name drops that I felt I was constantly like "Who? What?" That it took me out of the book here and there, but ultimately thought was a great read. I think making this into a young adult/middle grade book would be fun for the Dinosaur Kids. I have one in my life that hated The Land Before time because they don't use the correct terminology for the dinosaur names. I think he'd absolutely love this if it was adjusted for elementary schoolers.
What a fun vlog 😂❤
Can this be a series? Mermaids, dinosaurs..sea creatures?..birds?..bees?
I've been waiting all year for this!
the music was such a bop in this one!
The Wayward Children series is so good! Although I couldn't help but think you simply mislaid it ;) (I'll see myself out) :D
Loved this video! 💕 This would have been such a good chance to read Flirtasaurus by Erin Mallon! It's such a cute and spicy romance that I feel like no one knows about haha
I know it’s not TECHNICALLY a couples costume
But you and Rob could dress up as Pebbles and Bam Bam for Halloween!!
They could ya. Because there is a movie where pebbles and bam bam get married and another where they have twins.
Your faces while reading the Dinosaur smut were S tier.
Can i suggest reading books about Bees???? or well books about insects maybe.... i want book recommendations about bee or bee themed or that have bees... the bees deserveee
re: not having any one star reviews, you could do the opposite of “reading until I get a 5 star” vlog but instead “reading until I get a 1 star” 😂😂
