That totally makes sense-if I was hurting for wins I would definitely switch things up. 💕 Since I tend to have a good amount of obscure favourites, I find the longer the list, the more likely I am to find those niche commonalities, which helps. 🤗
Finally out of a year+ reading slump, I'm so excited for this year and all it has to offer. I got myself a library card yesterday, it was my first time leaving my house in about 14 months; I struggle mentally with leaving my home. I got two books and devoured the first one when I got home. I'm so excited, I'm getting better and I'm falling in love with books again. It feels like I've come home I'm looking forward to all your new videos and I can't wait for all the book recs I'm going to get. I read it for the first time in 2022 and reread it in 2023, solidifying its position . This book broke me but also grabbed me like nothing else. Now, here's the best part for me. But I’d love a silly little video that tallies up the most popular book - like a Goodreads choice aware, Kayla’s version. So like she looks at the top books of all the people she engaged witu across this series and tally’s up the top 10 mentioned books to see what like objectively was the best book of the year in Kayla’s circle! And if she hasn’t read the top book she has to read it (even if it’s a romance and she thinks she’ll hate it 😂)
You splitting this up to focus on each social media platform and then picking one book from each genre for the goodreads choice awards have spawn so many good and favorite reads!!! So I say this is a success!!!

I Who Have Never Known Men was Emily Fox's favourite of the year for 2022 (I want to say) and it has so intrigued me so much ever since. Great to see you also enjoying it.
I also read it because of Emily and finished it just a few days ago. Had the same reaction as Kayla at the ending. But the more I think about the book the more it becomes asolid 5 star read. Was expecting to read a distopian and was really surprised by kinda reading a book about the meaning of life.

I don't think there's anything wrong with giving a book a low rating that you didn't enjoy, even if you didn't find anything technically wrong with the book. It's your personal rating of it! If you didn't get any personal enjoyment and/or growth from it, then there's no shame in sharing that truth.
You have every right to set a boundary with not wanting to read extremely graphic description of traumatizing circumstances, and you have every right to change your feelings of the book based on that

I wonder if it would make sense to normalize the scores somehow. For creators who posted a lot of books as their favorites, it gives them a big boost vs someone who only posted an overall top 10. Maybe normalizing them so that they can more “fairly” be compared would balance that out, possibly by doing it as a percentage of their books that were favorites of yours as well, or maybe using books you have read from their piles but did not give a 4+ star to as a -1 to the overall score.
