Hi Tom, when the car sapped back you had turned off your indicator too early, before you had left the lane. I find you have to leave the indicator on until you have crossed the line.
I rented a BMW ix3 for Gold Coast trip from NSW, it is not bad experience and only need 2 x 1 hour meal stop with 120w fast charge network. It matched our normal stop as we had kids in car, need stop every 2 to 3 hours.
Watching your excellent videos as I am looking at purchasing a BYD Shark Premium when they finally hit our shores. I am assuming that it will have the same kind of software. Our main car is a KIA EV6. The shark will replace our current 2nd car.
Tom I have had a Model Y for almost a year and don't have any of the Software Upgrades (FSD etc) just bare bones and I use the Autopilot all the time and if use the Indicator it will disengage the "Lane keeping" portion of Autopilot (aka leave on cruise control) and when I have changed lanes I can double tap stalk and engage Full Autopilot with lane keeping.
Thanks for the clarification and yes you’re right - the indicator will turn off the basic AP but then you’ll have to re-engage AP once again as you correctly stated
Nice update as always, now, if only BYD will advise the "testing" period for the charging hardware upgrade period is over (& successful by your experience Tom) & start the rollout for all Seal owners, that would be good, it's been over a month now & they would not have installed these into yours or Christopher's Seals unless they were confident it would work.
On the range issue; have had 3 trips to southern nsw, 400km. First trip in March had 25% capacity left; second time 18% and third, about a month ago, 8%. Is that because of the colder weather? Also had a lot left coming back each time, around 25%. Going downhill helps!
Thanks for your great videos, Tom - I love them and they are really useful. Anyway, I've noticed on my own BYD Seal a funny thing - perhaps a hardware curiosity - that whenever I am wearing sunglasses (having polarized lenses), viewing the screen in portrait mode is completely darkened, whereas it's normal in landscape mode. Do you experience the same thing, or could that be a special "feature" on my european version of BYD Seal (I'm in Denmark)?
I took delivery of the seal last month. Love the car but I do have some minor gripes. Auto headlight is too sensitive. The headlights turn on whenever I drive in a slightly shaded aeea like under a bridge or trees. The wireless carplay is great but sometimes the steering wheel buttons lag when controlling music. It doesnt happen when I use the built-in spotify. When I want to turn autohold on /off, I have to press it multiple times before it works. The traffic sign recognition doesnt work in my country. The car thinks the speed limit is 5 km/h when it’s actually 80, so I just turned it off. And the new car smell! I got sick in the first week of owning it. It’s not easy to get rid of it. I tried everything but the smell still lingers although it’s better now. Also, as someone who never owned an EV before, I think the regen braking is too strong if set on high. I set it on standard and it’s perfect. Lastly, when I charge using wall charger, it tops off at 6.1 kw even though the charger is rated at 7.4 kw. Using a 100 kw dc charger, it tops off at around 86 kw. I know that’s a lot of gripes, but they’re all minor and hardly affect the driving experience. Still love the car so much. I had never owned a car that accelerates this quick. It’s addictive.
Hi Tom, I think the Seal does actually have 800V architecture - but BYD doesn't use the full capacity (possibly because of other hardware limits or in effort to protect/preserve the battery health). When you DC fast charge you can see the voltage goes above 500V.
I just assumed the Seal was 400V given the max DC charging rate was only 150kW lol whereas the Ioniq 5, EV6/9, Genesis GV60 - they can get closer to 270kW+
@@LudicrousFeed I don’t know how much information you can glean from charging speed since the chemistries are so different, but you are correct. I ignored the notification for 3-4 days and then charged it for 100% and the notification cleared
I don't understand why they don't update the thermal management for fast charging. If they just start the cooling while plugging in the DC charger not just when the battery is getting too hot, you could hold the 150kw peak much longer and dramatically reduce the charging speed. Cooling down 500kg of iron when it's hot couldn't work in short time
It's still missing navigation or turn by turn in the HUD or the dashboard. What's the use of an HUD if we still have to look at the centre screen for such important info.
@@LudicrousFeed More than icing, it's essential. When other cars like the Kia EV6 have augmented reality navigation in the HUD, we don't even get the basics. I can't understand why they removed a feature that exists (or existed) in the Asian market, as shown in some earlier videos.
I was looking at your lane change when the Seal tried to drag you back. It looked to me like you indicated, started to change, then manually stopped indicating while you hadn’t fully merged. So that might have triggered the lane assist?

Hi Tom, do you or know anyone having steering wheel vibration issue? The vibrating become noticeable from 40km/h and get worst onwards no matter what the road conditions were. It's really unsafe and tiresome after a long trip drive. My local BYD service centre has no idea how to fix this issue.
Can anyone tell me which home charger they would recommend for my Byd seam premium? I’ve only got the one that comes with the car which is fast enough for every day driving but I’m going to be doing Uber driving so I need a faster charger without degrading my battery
The Tesla Gen 3 wall connector is generally considered quite good value. Otherwise I reviewed the IQ Home recently: Home EV Charging Setup Update | Origin EV Power Up | Ocular IQ Home ua-cam.com/video/fQeR0hQmWbk/v-deo.html
Hi Tom, noticed with my seal that when you hold up or down on the cruise control lever, it now goes up and down by increments of 1 km/hr. Not sure if you've noticed that yet.
It's should be other way around, hold up or down for every 5km increment and push up and down for every 1km increment, just weird how BYD's engineers thinking backward like this.
Does the Seal have 800V architecture...interesting the charging isn't better then at least 200kW for example. Will be interesting when you get a chance to review the Xpeng G6 which has the charge curve of the eGMP platform cars and is also 800V. Of course the big one will be the Sealion 7 once it's released and you get a loan car to give it the full gamut of testing. Better go re-watch the live stream as I missed the first 15-20min and ahem, fell asleep before it ended about 5min before unfortunately. ;)
Did BYD fix the brakes with this update? I notice my Seal brakes will suddenly feel Very long. My freind's Seal is the same. My is preimum and his is dynamic. Same issue.
So how does the car connect to the internet? I assume you connect your phone to the car? Isn’t it great that we are now in a digital world where updates can be made almost immediately all round the world without taking your car to a dealer, or having your car just shut down(Mercedes owners can relate) and be put on a tow truck.
So the car is connected via a SIM card - location can be seen at the 29min mark of my earlier video: BYD Seal Infotainment System Walkthrough and Instrument Cluster Screen ua-cam.com/video/mXxxVmETNdw/v-deo.html You can do the OTA update either via the car’s connection to the Internet through said SIM or via WIFI
Yes you gotta turn it on via the drop down menu, under vehicle control. Illuminated is OFF. It’s kinda hidden, in the same place as where you go to turn off wireless charging.
One pedal drive possibly banned in China, hence BYD won't do it as feature and BYD never wish to implement one petal drive as a guess? The new legislation in China proposed requiring the driver to take foot on break to completely stop the car. They believe this will reduce the risk in emergency situation driver put foot on acceleration instead of break.
For those following along, it would appear as though my car is more than one update behind, meaning it won't update OTA. The update has to be done at a service centre. Why it wasn't delivered without the latest software I do not know. Getting the Service centre to do the update is a whole other frustrating process.
That's the point though. It's a brand new car in western markets, and the regular ota updates show that both they are listening to customers and that it's a car which will continue to improve as the updates come.
… I don’t understand what’s so special about this car or about this drive that you’re showing us. It seems like it only has a kind of cruise control; are you steering the car and are you adjusting the speed manually? It’s not self driving, right?
No vehicle in Australia is truly “self drive”. This is merely Level 2 Automomy in action ie. cruise control with lane keeping and centering. This video just serves as an update for my regular viewers who have been following my Seal ownership over the past 6 months. You’re welcome to watch from the very beginning when I first took delivery in December 2023 … Premium Trim BYD Seal Delivery Day Experience Sydney Australia 2023 ua-cam.com/video/quC_5gzj8sk/v-deo.html
@@LudicrousFeed I suppose it’s OK, your car if it’s substantially cheaper than, say a model three. That car is also a level two but it can drive itself much better, premium trim or no. To this day, TESLA still says it’s level two.

@@yinyang9109 hmm I haven’t personally noticed it yet but I’ll keep monitoring …
Otherwise I reviewed the IQ Home recently: Home EV Charging Setup Update | Origin EV Power Up | Ocular IQ Home

Hi Tom, noticed with my seal that when you hold up or down on the cruise control lever, it now goes up and down by increments of 1 km/hr. Not sure if you've noticed that yet.
Oh that’s interesting! I’ll have to try it - I’m glad they fixed that 👍
It's should be other way around, hold up or down for every 5km increment and push up and down for every 1km increment, just weird how BYD's engineers thinking backward like this.
@@yinyang9109 I tested it today and can confirm that it indeed works this way 🙏
Does the Seal have 800V architecture...interesting the charging isn't better then at least 200kW for example. Will be interesting when you get a chance to review the Xpeng G6 which has the charge curve of the eGMP platform cars and is also 800V. Of course the big one will be the Sealion 7 once it's released and you get a loan car to give it the full gamut of testing. Better go re-watch the live stream as I missed the first 15-20min and ahem, fell asleep before it ended about 5min before unfortunately. ;)
Yes the Seal is 800V - I corrected myself in the description and pinned comment 🙏
Yes looking forward to testing the XPENG’s DC charging 👍
Seems the speedometer is also not that jumpy anymore.
👍
Did BYD fix the brakes with this update? I notice my Seal brakes will suddenly feel Very long. My freind's Seal is the same. My is preimum and his is dynamic. Same issue.
Are you using comfort or sport braking? Sport braking will have a more firm and 'assertive' braking feel.
Comfort. It's just once a while, it will change. I'll try sport to see.if it's better
So how does the car connect to the internet? I assume you connect your phone to the car? Isn’t it great that we are now in a digital world where updates can be made almost immediately all round the world without taking your car to a dealer, or having your car just shut down(Mercedes owners can relate) and be put on a tow truck.
So the car is connected via a SIM card - location can be seen at the 29min mark of my earlier video: BYD Seal Infotainment System Walkthrough and Instrument Cluster Screen
ua-cam.com/video/mXxxVmETNdw/v-deo.html
You can do the OTA update either via the car’s connection to the Internet through said SIM or via WIFI
Hotspot via phone wifi, BT via phone or internal SIM in the car :)
@@LudicrousFeed the car has its own SIM? That’s awesome
Sentry mode would be nice
🙏👍
I haven't found if my seal has a pedestrian alert? I've had a couple of ppl almost walk in front of me when in carparks as they can't hear me coming
Yes the Pedestrian sound can be switched on/off
Yes you gotta turn it on via the drop down menu, under vehicle control.
Hmm interesting that OPD is available in MG4 … 🤔
And Teslas...
Why is it that you've never mentioned phantom breaking issue in previous videos?
For me it’s trivial because I notice it only very rarely on my daily drives. I mustn’t go through that many roundabouts lol
I also noticed this phantom braking. Happy that they finally fixed this
What do you have to do to get the update? Still sitting on 2401, and there's been two software updates. BYD don't know why I'm not getting it.
Sorry, not sure how to push these updates unfortunately 😔
@@LudicrousFeed thanks, it's just a bit frustrating
For those following along, it would appear as though my car is more than one update behind, meaning it won't update OTA. The update has to be done at a service centre. Why it wasn't delivered without the latest software I do not know. Getting the Service centre to do the update is a whole other frustrating process.
The seal is getting there but, all these minor improvements is what Tesla has had for more than 5 years.
Yes true
That's the point though. It's a brand new car in western markets, and the regular ota updates show that both they are listening to customers and that it's a car which will continue to improve as the updates come.
what gonna happen if dont update?
Not sure, I’ve never not updated
… I don’t understand what’s so special about this car or about this drive that you’re showing us. It seems like it only has a kind of cruise control; are you steering the car and are you adjusting the speed manually? It’s not self driving, right?
No vehicle in Australia is truly “self drive”. This is merely Level 2 Automomy in action ie. cruise control with lane keeping and centering. This video just serves as an update for my regular viewers who have been following my Seal ownership over the past 6 months. I suppose it’s OK, your car if it’s substantially cheaper than, say a model three. That car is also a level two but it can drive itself much better, premium trim or no. To this day, TESLA still says it’s level two.
I want to be able get emails/have the car read messages etc
Apple CarPlay and presumably Android Auto can read WhatsApp and text messages
Made in China plastic fireboxes
Feel better now?
How long have you been driving one?
