Wow nice donation mate!! Well done! I'm sure Bjorn will really appreciate this. Top job!!!
He really does help a lot and has a ton of experience. i love the consistent data, this is unmatched. If the seats are too hard or too soft, that any journalist can tell you but this level of practicality you never get!

Thanx for all the great content in the past years! Hope you will be able to solve the financial issues with your house.
I admire how you arrange everything with your family with two small children. I just had a second one myself and I know what you are going through. Nice that you were able to do a 1000 km challenge again!

This comment is related to the already deleted (?) house video. I really hope that you got the things mentioned in the house video sorted out. I absolutely believe that a hard working smart guy, amazing dad and husband like you have earned to treat himself with a house to be a proud about. The insanely two-sided comments in that video was probably the reason that the video was taken down, and i absolutely understand that something like that is like a fuel (or electricity😉) to the haters. I absolutely hope that you can keep the house long into the future, and thats why i want to contribute towards the paying of the Idehus loan. Anyone else concerned by that lowest/highest cell temperature delta? I mean, sure, a lower inlet temp than outlet, but to have some cells 23 degrees warmer than the others is a sure fire way to end up with weird degradation patterns within the pack is it not?
you can kiss your warranty goodbye if this is a feature and not a bug, this company will be cooked before anyone can get a battery replacement, maybe that's why Buffett sold all his shares in byd
Absolutely, the leaf has specific cells which degrade faster due to their location within the pack, this is not good for longevity at all
I really guess the Delta is wrong parameter reading or different sensor location , its extremely high difference if the lowest cell is only 23C it makes no sense to me . If so the internal resistance must be huge and the battery will degrade in couple of months only . Otherwise this car is a total crap .
@@stefan4582luckily the garantee is quite good.
@@davidolsson how long does it take to get a new battery pack if needed? and do they change the whole battery, or only the bad cells? (and then you need to take it to the repairshop again when next battery pack is bad?)

Insane that they still overheat and have issues with drivetrain control software (stuck in AWD)
Bjørn. I love your work. Was tempted by the BYD Sealion 7 launched in Norway these days. Thanks to your work, I am cautious
The LFP will be less likely to burn out in the event of a short circuit. And it can withstand high temperatures much better than NCA/NMC lithium batteries.
Bjorn, the battery chemistry is LFP, it can take higher temperature without degrading and won't suffer thermal runaway
Why don't you tell it to BYD engineers? I mean they should know better xD
are you sure? " On the other end of the spectrum, high temperatures can negatively impact an LFP battery's lifespan. Elevated temperatures accelerate chemical reactions within the battery, leading to a gradual capacity fade over time. Managing heat is critical to extending the battery's life"
@@AndrewTSq LFP still suffer from excess heat, they are just more resilient to hear than Li Ion Cobalt chemistries. The point which they catch fire is also higher
@@chriswhiteman5817 and harder to put out.
In Australia BYD is rolling out a new cable to do with this hand shaking issues on Tesla supercharges. I think the BYD does not have the 1k ohm resistor in the charge port coms pins which causes some chargers not sensing that a charge cable connection has been made.
Its not only the missing resistor they need a software update too.

"loading... sending data to china" 🤣
Hahahahah ikr

I can't believe the amount of hate in the comments. If you only read those, you'd think the Seal performed terribly, but in reality, it outperformed many European cars that usually get nothing but praise, like the Volvo EX30, XC40, C40, Mercedes EQA, Nissan Ariya, and Smart #3 Brabus. Let's dial it back a bit, folks - this car actually did pretty well. Even Bjorn acknowledged that at the end of the video.
This one is a bratwurst as well.
Of that list only the Mercedes is European. Volvo and Smart is owned by Geely, a Chinese auto company, and from a quick search are made in China. The Nissan is Japanese.
@@jakej1837 I just knew someone pedantic would say that, completely missing the point. Okay, here are a few more EUROPEAN cars that the Seal still outperforms: VW ID3, VW Buzz, BMW i5, VW ID4, BMW iX1 xDrive30. Satisfied now, my dude?
Cause it is a Chinese EV. What do you expect? Hating China is PC and popular, why wouldn't he do that? Yep[, he got the code to more subscribers.
But in this car, your chances of being burned alive in it is there. The batteries are notorious failure points and tends to be catastrophic. You should not be in it when that happens!. How can anyone trust China made batteries?!. With your life?! No no nada, zilch, get the help away... Glad you are fine tho.
I tried it today with Ionity charges and got it to rapid gate at 28% SoC. Throttled down from 150kW to 70kW. Took ages to finish. Today I regret not going with another Tesla. Hope it can be fixed with a OTA and not underpowered hardware 😢😮
This is why we need to stop selling out to China 😂
@@jaybomb5022 Hard not to when everything i manufactured there ;)
@davidolsson Tesla isn't. So are many other brands. They, like Tesla just cost a little more.
@@jaybomb5022 Tesla has chineese parts and battery in them. Latest was model Y who has BYD batteries
There will be an update don't worry it's about all byd ev's.
There’s a dude on the BYD FB that got an upgraded cooling unit…but he lived in saudi ^^
This is the information about ITAC from BYD engineers :
When iTAC* is ”ON”: ECO mode - distributes front and rear torque according to accelerator pedal depth and different road conditions;
Normal mode - distributes front and rear torque according to accelerator pedal depth and different road conditions; Sport mode - distributes front and rear torque according to accelerator pedal depth and different road conditions; Snow mode - distributes front and rear torque according to accelerator pedal depth and different road conditions and the distribution ratio of the front axle torque will be increased to better meet the driver’s needs.
When iTAC is ”OFF”: ECO mode - economy-oriented, rear axle drive;
Normal mode - economy and power oriented, and distributes front and rear torque according to the driver’s needs;
Sport mode - power oriented, and distributes more torque to the front axle to meet the driver’s needs;
Snow mode - control stability oriented, the torque distribution of the front and rear axle pays more attention to the control stability of the vehicle and ensures the driver’s control stability.”
Where did you found this info? It does sound super redundant but kind of makes sense on what I feel driving...
@@cheitanya the info was from BYD engineers when Swedish journalists found AWD issue (which BYD later fixed).
Fun! You know, this actually makes me want to retire in China. Can I send my data in advance?
I like the new editing format! And I like that the "boring" middle parts are kept like the road trip videos. Thanks bjorn.
This BYD Performance doesn't have a very effective cooling system for the battery because of the >20C difference between the hottest and coolest battery cells. That doesn't give me confidence in the longevity of the battery.
Yeah, that's a pretty significant temperature delta. It could either be a defect in this car, or just a design flaw somewhere.
That's a great point, the Seal was on my shortlist but not so much now.
never ever buy a chinese anything... specially something as expensive as an ev
Get a Tesla their drivetrain cooling is well balanced
Don't think it will affect longevity as BYD always keep their LFP battery at the optimal operational range of 0- 45 degrees. Battery Cell temp delta doesn't affect Longevity. As long as each cell temp is kept under 55degree c. The higher you go the more damage you do to your LFP. However the 20 degree delta does affect charging and discharging efficency. The less delta the more performance the BMS can get out of the battery pack. Thats probably why Model Y with the 60kw BYD battery can charge at 170kw, while BYD's 80kw seal can only do 150kw. Mind you Tesla does goto the extreme of pushing the battery to 59 degree, where as BYD start throttling at 45 degree c.
Been waiting for this! Thanks
Like always, Bjørn is showing the real stuff, reading data from the EV Computer instead like many other youtubers, how just think they see the consumtion of an EV at the charging station display. Pretty suprised that the chineses did such a bad job in the thermal managment of the battery. So the BYD has a 600 Volt battery and the incar chager has to upscale 400 Volts to 600 Volts, with a lot of engery lost, is that right Bjørn ?
Yes
lack of proper cooling means, no (real) performance, no charging capability.....and I can't imagine how it "works" in southern Europe summer
Also imaging driving it on the EU motorways outside scandinavia. It's much warmer on average, and speed limits are often 130+ which would make this problem of poor charging and performance loss even bigger.
I hope BYD can upgrade the car and fix this problem, we REALLY need strong competition so producers don't fall asleep like what happend with ICE cars.
10:30 is a good time for 1000km. IMO, Bjørn is right, most customers will not notice the slower charging when the battery gets hot. At least for road trips with family, the car should be charged before you are ready to leave.
I live in Dubai i think the heat pump is different here the ambient temp is 40 but my battery never exceeded 45c while driving or charging
If the heat is the issue oh boy imagine this on the southwest in the US( Arizona,Oklahoma,Nevada and Texas) this will blow up
I wonder if charging at 100kW would have been faster overall due to lower charging current not overheating the battery.
"Loading... Sending data to China..."!
Hahaha...
Haven't seen the video yet, but I assume there is a "Don't they have summer in China?" in it.
Hi the cooling is by a refrigeratant plate in the battery not water cooled like a Tesla the AC battery cooling is independent of the cabin AC
Great video. If BYD roll out their own charging network then more people would consider them in Australia.
Two weeks ago while charging at the Supercharger in Alta a guy with aBYD Han parked at the Ishavsveien charger there. I took a look at the car (looks really good) but the driver said, he'll never buy a BYD again, since his Han outright refuses to charge at superchargers and he demonstrated me how he needed four (!!!) tries to get the car charging. According to him, four attempts are pretty good. So that wasn't good advertisement for BYD...
isn't that your inforstructure to blame? naver had issue like this in China
@@nobodyli6543
I'd say both parties (BYD and charger producers/operators) are to blame. Imho BYD should go to relevant charger producers to smooth things out if they want to be seriously competing for the European market.
Also BYD's pricing policy is confusing: they often charge premium over Tesla competing models here in EU (example Seal RWD vs Tesla model 3HL RWD, funnily both made in China).
Bad move when we know they are minimally undercutting Tesla cars in the Chinese market but charging premium in Europe, this feels like beeing ripped off by BYD.
@@andrzejz4218 they anticipate the tariff and protect brand image, later they will reduce price when they have manufacture capacity in EU. you will experience what they are doing right now in china.
People will have to learn that LFP comes with a lot of downsides. My Cobalt battery has 2-3°C delta, can be hammered all day long without heating up and takes 260kW for 10-12min straight staying under 40°C.
Thank you for the time and effort for your videos. This convinced me to drive an electric car
51 degree might be the bus bar temperature or something, hard for battery to get that drastic difference between cells.
Cell temp diff always big/double. Faulty cattery pack with blocked cooling section? Thanks for all your work.......
Hmmm, was thinking of one of these and I'm in Australia and itrs over 30'c in summer where I live.
It gets hot. I guess it it's known as "burn your driveway"😂
In last two charging sessions, you can see the car slowed the charging to only around 71 to 78 kw at very low state of charge when battery temperature reach 52 degree C. That is a very bad performance considering the outside temp is a cool 13 degree C. Basically, in most Asian or warm country, this car will rarely charge over 80 kw because of overheating. It is bad.
Hey i live in dubai and omg what a disaster i had it for 2days and acceleration claimed 3.8s i only got that time when the car cooled down (meaning parked for hours)5 minutes later i got 0-60 in 5.6s then 10.9s i returned it after 2 days and battery charging was only 60kwh,dont buy byd especially if you live in hot climate
probably for most Evs and ICE if that heat is on the extreme side 😂

I worry that this car has more than a rapid gating problem. at 15:08 one can see that highest voltage is at 3.54V while SoC is at 10.6%. The cell voltage should be lower. Maybe the cells have too high internal resistance, causing additional heat?
This is LFP battery. It's normal.

Long time watching your challenges, was waiting a lot for this one, i have a seal for 6 months now and no one ever covered this! I noticed it was overheating too quickly but figured it was a every eletric car problem.
Now do you think it is a software repair or its a bad hardware design?
Thank you for the great content!
Thants for your replay. Can you tell more about your driving habits and environment - when these problems arise?
I'd guess many owners (who doesn't use a lot of motorways or making long trips) won't understand why this is happening sometimes.
In Australia the maximum speed limit is normally 110km and 100 on most country roads and freeways. Won’t have to worry about auto drive disconnecting and the batteries would be cooler, except we get up to 45 degrees Celsius the more north you go! I don’t think they will last.
km is distance
km/h is speed
@@bjornnyland really, pick me up for a typo, shiiiiiit.
Reminds me of a trip I did in the reverse direction with a Nissan Micra ... but I had a few too many adventures and needed a loan car!
Would be nice if you could repeat this test in winter! I’m sure you will then see the opposite end of the problems with a car that has no coolant flowing through the battery.
My 2023 Nissan Leaf overheated at 110kmh on motorway, after 400km of driving and charging. Minus 7C, limp mode
Great travel music Bjorn. 2:01 and 10:59 mark. I find myself cranking up my headphones, 👊👊
Hi Björn,
Quick question, what should I buy? TM3 or BYD Seal? I have 200 km to the office, I can charge there and I can charge at home. Im just doing 200 km x 2 a week. The rest is city driving. Maybe 7-8 long journeys a year.
I really like the BYD because of the comfort.
Massive difference in temperature between the colder and hotter cells. Maybe some bad cells, or just a terrible battery conditioning system.
I test drove the Seal Performance on winding road and found its road manners pretty awful. Like the front and rear motor coordination and the traction control system just don’t seem tuned properly. And the infotainment screen was just too … Chinese. Like a budget android headunit from 10 years ago. I’ve also test drove the new Model 3 Performance and its road manners on a winding hill drive were great. Only things I hated were lack of indicator stalks and a HUD (which ironically the Seal has). Still I’d feel safer in the Tesla.
Loaded on the „old“ and „new“ IONITY and never had the problem. I also had no problem with Tesla v3 and v4 with my „German“ BYD build 25.09.2023. wether with 2310 and also not with the newest software here. Don’t know what BYD messed up with your cars down under.
My last experience during 28° C outside temperature.
Starts at 40% woth 143 kW till 55% then 122 kw. From 66% drops on 82 kw (thermal management now starts) till 85% then drops to 47 kw till 99 %.
From 40% to 80% in 21 Minutes.
I always drive with air conditioning in ECO. Maybe the cooling is better in comfort mode?
About the fogging: do you have activated that the car switches automatically to circulation inside air when you park?
The big problem with this car is the charging issue, 1/3 time it fails to charge.
Public charging or charging at home?
Overheating at 14° I wouldn't feel comfortable to charge this car in Summer right now we have a cloudy day and 26° c.
Most people don't realize how dangerous it is lithium iron phosphate batteries went hydrogen if they get too hot.
In my area constantly 30°c EV fast charger are no go.
Range can only be seen in the app.. what annoys me is lack of date display. Perhaps it's on one of the always on display. But I want it in the status bar..
how was the interior smell as I opened and closed a bud car door really quickly at the dealership...was unbearable
If you were to limit the charging to 100kw... Would it work out better?
If the battery go to hi temp it will catch fire or destroy after some time.. The batteries must go max 45. And if outside was 40c? It will explode?
Wait hrs for battery to charge. Deal with thermal management and power drop. not worth buying any evs for long trips for city makes absolute sense over ice car . Sticking ice make more sense for long hauls.
Thing that bothers me the most is the temperature differential between highest and lowest temperature cell.
That's 25 °C difference. Which is way above any acceptable level.
Maybe it helps to turn off the car completely while charging. I noticed that helps with Corsa elektro
