A small detail - Self Destruction is used when the Scarabs are selected to fight (not afterwards) which means that against some elite units it can be very effective if you're fighting first
It is honestly super scary how effective they are in melee. I’ve played with them before and the high amount of attack and guaranteed wounds on 6+ more than make up for the poor weapon skill and strength.
@@Waagghhboy don’t be mad! Someone other then space marines have something good! I only play chaos and Xenos and it’s refreshing hearing space marine players whine that necrons are better, it’s not true, but it’s fun to hear.

These little guys are usually the MVP of my games. Rad wreathed (-1T in engagement range) makes them so scary! I normally run 12-18 of them and they can put out some pretty good damage plus the kaboom stratagem is fun when it finishes off something. Best part is your run some spiders and your kamikaze bugs come right back to life... it sooooooo good!
i think my biggest issue with scarabs is that i cant buy them as their own kit. i have to have warriors to get scarabs which has annoyed me afor a long time
I've heard people just clip them into individual models, so you can put as many as you want or as little on a base, depending on who you play with. you could put like 1-3 on a 25mm base
@@AsbestosMuffins 25mm base would not be game legal. I agree it doesn't matter how many you glue on but the base needs to be 40mm for the foot print to be correct.
Weird that a pure Canoptek army is not only stronger, but also costs more power than a regular battalion...9 spiders, 27 scarab bases and a few Tomb stalkers are pretty tough...
My friend made the mistake of charging a stack of scarabs with Berserker. since they dont have 2 w yet, they are easy target for self destruction. So much value.
Played a 1000pt game with these little guys as a 5 modle unit, and they lasted the hole game against a unit of plage marines (armed with plauge knives and a flail)
In my experience against blood angels (my friend playing them has been my only opponent during covid) they are about the best unit I can field for the cost. They do everything: cap objectives, screen out scary things like BA transports, and a full unit with a spider has the weight of dice to do a very surprising amount of damage when combined with the self-destruct stratagem. They're great; I have a hard time not including them in my lists.
I was wondering if you could make the case of running the scarabs with the spider to run a sack and regen bomb squad. Multi spiders running behind helping to res the scarabs.
During my first game with 9e and with necrons, I managed to down a ghostkeel with only a unit of 6. Granted this was just a friendly game, and my friend could have fallen back, but it still shows these things can punch above their weight.
Last night i played a battle between 3 scarab swarms, but we didnt know if i could move my space marine. When 3 off the scarabs are in an inch of my space marines. we couldnt find anybody who had a answer to it.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't these guys' melee attacks pretty weak? Hit on 4+, strenght on 3 so they often just wound on 5+ and their ability just skips the wound roll while the enemy can still save roll.
Hear me out, 9 base unit with a chronomancer, spyder and 2 cryptothralls to preform actions, too much for a back objective? 315 points for 52 wounds and a ton of synergy. Thinking of taking 2 blobs, and immortals on the other center objective with a reanimator and 1 chronomancer to fill out a patrol. 1000 points/140 wounds to sit back then 1000 points in whatever detachment I need to go out and fight.
Sure but this isn't a original idea, And anything you want to do is better if you include the silent king in a Necron army. You get combat potential, flexibility and durability. While the list you suggest is mostly just durability.
I'm planning to use these with a couple of Spyders. Question is, can the Spyders be targeted before the scarabs? (If the scarabs are Infront of the Spyders?)
Great units, these bugs can actually allow you to anchor your army even after doing some fuck ups due their threat area and the amount of wounds they can bring while not suffering from the Warrior's vulnerability, and having them make an enemy vehicle explode wiping out a couple of times their own cost was one of the most hilarious things I have seen in the game.

Hey guys! I have a question about the scarab swarms. When they auto wound on 6’s do you remove those dice from the pool or continue to use them in further attack checks? So if you have one attacking rolling 4 and get 1 6 and the rest 4+ do you now continue rolling only 3 or all of the 4 dice?

No way!!! Hahaha. That would be nice but tbh for the price they are kinda the MVP of the codex in my opinion. For 90 pts you can get 1-2 units (3 or 6) and use them to screen deep strike in your deployment. Or just one unit of 6 can effectively screen your front line from charges or do reliable damage against any targets as you can blow one up or just use the attacks against lighter targets.
you should have called out GW for not packaging units and making people buy sets. GW is still 30 years behind lego on manufacturing plastic with high quality and no mold lines. It is 2020, I cant build an army and buy it from them direct? I gotta buy tons of extra units I dont want in 2020?
