If you are a US citizen by birth or naturalization, and your name has been changed; you don't need to provide a name change affidavit when you apply for OCI. You only need to submit a copy of the court order issuing the name change

Can't thank you enough for this video. I got stuck trying to pay at the VFS site and wanted to make sure the ARN number was right. They call it file reference number(on PDF of application), government reference number and application reference number on emails. SO confusing and annoying. Call it one name for heaven's sake. Your video walked me through the treacherous applicaiton process. Thanks! I was stalled on this application which has taken the better part of 2 months. You almost have to do it in one sitting because you forget how to navigate through the convoluted process if you wait 1-2 weeks.

I think they updated the checklist for the fresh OCI application now you also need to submit the notarized affidavit for the photo copies you sending.

The government and VFS Sites operate on three rules for applicants: 1. Zero Tolerance 2. Zero errors 3. When in doubt, REJECT. If you are applying for Indian OCI card now, stop. Before you begin the application, watch this video multiple times. Take notes extensively. Then watch one other video by a different presenter. Then begin the application. The Indian OCI application is not covered by: easy to do business. Sorry, there is no customer service.

Thank you Suja, I just submitted my docs today. Govt. website form says that you have to self attest all the photocopies. And Dcoument checklist from VFS doesnt mention that. I self attested all the copies just to be on a safe side...

Thank you for explaining in English. I lost my renunciation certificate but my old Indian passport was cancelled I have it.first my son helped me made a mistake due to the wrong date and it got rejected .then he checked and corrected and sent it back to vfs.Hoping to get my OCI passport soon.Thank you.

Please advise how exactly we mail the documents.
Can we staple individual documents - not the entire stack but just individual ones.
For example, if a few documents run into more than one page, can we staple those OR label them as to what they are? If my my passport runs into two pages - can I staple the pages or instead should I label the pages and explicitly write by hand “my current passport?” If not staples, can we use paper clips?
Of course, I will self-attest all the mandatory documents. The photos also don’t have to be affixed to digital application, right? Can they just simply be sent with the application?
Please clarify exactly how this is done. This is not specified anywhere. Again, I won’t staple the entire stack but can individual documents that run into more than one page - be stapled or labeled as for what it is? The digital application has 7 pages. The mandatory checklist has 5 pages. Do we staple those, use paper clips, or label those as well? How will you know what is what if we don’t staple or use paper clips?
i have already completed application registration and paid fees, till how many days can i re-upload documents for my oci for India from usa application and send the documents after i have completed application registration and paid fees?
In the video you say to provide the Marriage Registration Number instead of Marriage Registration Date, but looks like you put in the date and looks like the form only accepts a date as well and not a number.

Hi Suja, whenever they ask for the applicant's name, (eg in the consent letter), do we write the surname first as shown in the USA Driving license or the USA Passport or is it the first name followed by the last name?

After filling out the application I realized I only have one copy of the passport-size pic I uploaded, is it OK if I affix the same photo on the application and include a different copy of the passport pic when sending the package ?
I have same question as you were you able to figure out any solution for this issue?
I haven’t seen anyone doing this - better print the same photo and send

So we applied for OCI on Dec 2021, all three of us received the OCI cards yesterday (March24). Interestingly OCI card has only a few pages. Are they going to stamp it when we traveled to India? Anyways, your video tutorial was very useful. Thanks again for your help!

Hi, Suja. First of all, thank you so much for your amazing channel and your informative and well-done videos! Thank you! I have 2 questions about the OCI application for Foreign Spouse. In my case, I am applying in base on my husband's Indian citizenship. I am from the USA... First question: How many physical photos do I have to send? It said 2. One physical and one digital... or beside the original I have to send 2 hard copies? Second question: It's mandatory to apostille my marriage certificate? I didn't read anything about the apostille Birth certificate, however, on the checklist for Foreign Spouse, it mentions the Apostille Marriage certificate. I wait for your response. PD: With the help of your OCI for minor, I was able to complete and send the application for my daughter and today she is an official OCI holder, she is in India today! Thank you, Suja. All the best!
Ms. Prakash, thank you for this helpful video. Just an FYI, the OCI Government website does not work in Google Chrome browser version Version 103.0.5060.66 (Official Build) (64-bit). It does work on the mobile version of the Google Chrome. So I had to use Microsoft Edge browser to complete the application process. I thought I would share this to assist others. Best regards!

Please help me with this, my daughter (18) acquired US citizenship through parents when she was a minor. Now we are applying for her OCI, as an adult. I can not find the affidavit format that we, both parents must sign and get notarized, that’s needed to be sent along with our naturalization certificate for our daughter’s new OCI application. Great video! One quick question. I understand that the original US passport does not need to be mailed in with the application materials, only a copy of the information pages. But does the original US passport have to be sent to VFS or the consulate at any time later in the process? Some online sources seem to suggest you have to send the original US passport towards the end of the process for confirmation/validation. This will be important for timing the application with other international travel I have to do in the months following submitting the application. Thanks for any guidance.

Do we need to affix photo on the physical application and need to send two more photos or only just need to affix the photo on the physical application and upload the digital image ? Does anybody know?
Exceptional video. I had one problem. I could not upload the Naturalization Certificate to the Upload Document section. I don't know why. I have met all the parameters such as pdf format, 1000KB size, having the file name EXACTLY as the document name. But still it would not upload. Hope it will not be an issue.
