Hello Varun, there is a correction needed in this video. Time - 15:28 Previous Nationality needs to be added as India. My OCI application got rejected today with this reason. It's possible that it's a recent change as the mandatory documents list has also been updated. Just wanted to let you know.

"A Person of Indian Origin, who do not possess an OCI card, and may be granted ‘X-1’ Visa for a period of five years at a time, with multiple entry facility."
I'm guessing that it is similar to an OCI card but it requires an actual VISA, but not sure if one can purchase property, etcetera on this X-1 visa.
Most importantly, how does one show evidence of Indian origin when applying for this visa? Is the evidence uploaded online during the visa application or is it shown at the airport upon arriving in Bharata?

High commission of India upgrade your system. Applying for foreign passport was so easier than applying for OCI. Why should we apply online application as well as physical documents ? I have couple of doubts. I filled the online application (part A and B) and uploaded documents. After watching this video, I realised that I have made couple of errors. Do you think I can create another online application since I haven't submitted the docs or paid to VFS Global?
Also, I am doing Indian passport renunciation as part of the OCI application. Since I haven't renunciated my Indian passport yet, Should I mention previous nationality as India and specify the Indian passport number in 'Other' section?

To your Question 1: yes you can and fill up a whole new form and fix your errors.
Q2: I would apply for renunciation and get surrender certificate and canceled passport done first before you apply for OCI.
Just wanted to make it clear that in the OCI application checklist which I have from VFS Sydney, they have the option to surrender citizenship and renunciate Indian passport.
If your Indian Passport is not officially cancelled, submit the original Indian Passport for cancellation along with One Photograph (2”x2” size), Online Application Form and Form XXII
Reason being OCI is only for people who have already given up their citizenship. Check out my Renunciation video for those steps

Hello! Quick question, what is the consent letter and where can I find a template of that? Also it says we have to send in 2 photos, is that true?
This is something new they put out so they can rectify mistakes made by the person who applied. Format should just be like a formal letter. I don’t have any format handy yet

Hello, thanks for the great video! I have attempted to create the application, but every time I press continue it makes me start all over from the beginning. As well, every time I use the temporary password to start from where I left off it shuts the website off and brings you back to the home page. I have provided hours to attempting to fix this, restarted my computer, changed browsers, and cleared my cache. Thank you SO much for any help you can provide! :)

There is a new requirement that I found: Consent Letter : it’s a must and applicant must send a copy of that. Do you have any idea about that? Any template? Is it compulsory for online application as well, as I couldn’t find the option in the document drop box options?

All photos are colored. You have to send 2 physical ones.

Instructions for Relationship-certificate upload
* Scan and upload the array of birth certificates from the applicant to parents/grand parents.
* Birth certificate issued from a competent authority is only acceptable.
* Foreign issued birth certificate is to be get apostle/authenticated.
* Scan and upload the apostle/authentication stamp page also.

Are we supposed to have a photo with a white background or a light background? Because in the OCI process it mentions that the background should be light(not white) in the start and then it says that the background should be white when uploading the picture.

If you go to any CVS or Walgreens. They will take the right photo for this application or passport

Upload docs don’t need sign as they will be scanned copies. Ones you physically send need to be signed/notarized as requested

If you are applying for OCI for yourself, not through spouse, is it necessary to upload marriage certificate and spouse name change certificate? Because spouse's name in my passport is different from spouse name on her passport/ our marriage certificate. I'm confused if i should match the name to what is written in MY cancelled indian passport or her official documents? would it even matter since I am not applying for OCI thru spouse? Any help or advice from you is appreciated! thanks!

Hi, thanks for this helpful video. Can you please clarify the following: 1). you've said that you self attested, so did you sign and date the photocopied driver's license and passport or write something like "certified true copy of the original"? 2). You also mention having both front back of a driver's license, but on the application it doesn't mention front and back, just front and not cutting it down to size. 3). As for the US passport, you mentioned having it notarized, but VFS checklist doesn't mention that. Thanks again!
Just signature is enough for self attestation.
For DL I scanned front on top of the paper, and reused the same page to scan the back side. No need to cut down to size.
VFS no longer needs US passport notarized. So follow latest document checklist. They’ve made life easier for us 🙏🏼

Please help me with this, my daughter (18) acquired US citizenship through parents when she was a minor( so she doesn’t have her own naturalization certificate). Now we are applying for her OCI, as an adult. I can not find the affidavit format that we, both parents, must sign and get notarized, that’s needed to be sent along with our naturalization certificate for our daughter’s new OCI application. Please check if there in a option for unemployed or self employed and just write a simple letter on a blank paper to support that claim.

Hi, Vk. I need your guidance to apply for renunciation of my Indian passport. In 2006 , I got my U.S. Citizenship & got American passport. I apply for India’s Visa. India Embassy Chicago they put cancelled stamp on my Indian passport & returned my Indian passport & issued me 10 years visa for India. Now my Indian visa expired in 2019 . & I want to apply India’s visa. But some how I lost my Indian passport & I don’t have passport number or any copy of that so how I can apply for renunciation without Indian passport. What type of documents need to provide instead of Indian passport so I can apply for renunciation. I’m 65 years young woman & want to see my family in India. Please help me to get visa for India. The checklist mentions if it’s self attest vs not. And most importantly print sign and date the checklist itself and add it to your package.

When we upload Photo and Signature, Is it mandatory to crop and select? I submitted application already but I just uploaded and moved ahead. Just want to know if its mandatory to crop, Do I need to re-file as fresh application? Also, My wife was Indian citizen and now US citizen applying for OCI, I'm still Indian Citizen, Does she needs to select "YES" for based on spouse or she can select "NO" since she was Indian citizen by birth. Not mandatory to crop if it worked for you.
If she is filing for her own OCI with her own lineage, she does not need to go via Spouse.
Hi nice Video. But I have the following questions for Minor child born in India. 1) Driver License not there. Both the Parents Driver License need to be uploaded in one PDF file? 2.) Legal Status of Parents when Parents are Naturalized. Do we need to upload US Passport copy still? 3. ) Parental Authorization should be notarized? 4. ) What needs to be filed for Relationship Certificate?
I think all are valid uploads that you mentioned and for 4. It’s child’s birth certificate which established relationship between you and your kid.
The next checklist for oci for minor has a mention of all these. Check those as it might address any other concern.

why VFS charging exorbitant and loot rate for call $2.48 per minute and uploading charges. only 5 minutes free for every week. how much anybody can talk for 5 minutes? Nobody in world charges for call. I contacted consulate General and he says it is not in our control. who is controller of VFS?

Should not be a problem. As long as you have your supporting documents. But if you yourself was former Indian citizen should have been good too.

And I’ve been married for over two years now after marriage my wife has changed her middle name but in my previous indian passport her name is same as before marriage and after marriage her new passport has my middle name so what should i do ? Is that okay with if I upload just as it’s?
Upload the documents you have and provide any other supplementary documents (per checklist)

Hi Offbeat I was applying for my OCI and filled out all the information, but there is part where we have to add previous nationality. On that previous nationality part I forgot to add my previous nationality. What should I do?

do i need to still upload this as i have submitted my application without this document
Are you applying based on your own Indian lineage or via spouse. if its the latter, you are going to get asked documents for validation, if yes then do expect a delay on your application

Only if self attestation is asked Syed on document checklist.

Just ask your employer to provide an employee letter. They have a standard format they will provide. A PDF copy will suffice

Thanks for this video , watched it twice already. I think I missed a few things though:
1. I am applying for my entire family, do I need to submit 3 separate applications and then mail in 3 separate packages or can I do it in one-shot ?
2. Regarding uploading the documents, can I upload a single pdf with all the documents (address proof, passport, naturalization etc etc ) or do I have to attach them separately ?
Three separate applications, three separate packages
Individual documents need to be uploaded.

Previous Nationality field: In this video at 16:13, you are saying Previous nationality can be left blank. But if I select India it is asking for the renunciated passport no. So are we not supposed to select India here ?? I am confused.
In order to apply for OCI you need to renounce Indian citizenship first and get renunciation certificate first in case you are going that route.

My mom couldn't get hers because she lost her pink landing papers in Canada that she received in the 1970s. And canada has no system to replace this card. Ridiculous. I tried to apply 3 yrs ago. Maybe they made it easier now.

Hello, I have a question. My dad, my brother, and I have OCI, so is it necessary to give our information about OCI when applying for my Mom's OCI? If so, then where it says "Date Applied", is it the date when I submitted our applications for OCI? And It also asks for Name and Relationship, so will everything go on one line? And my mom has relatives living in India (Her mom, brother and his family, her sister and her family)..do I have to enter everyone's name and information?
You can give info about direct relatives namely mom, dad brother. Extended family is not needed.
Hi Varun. Thanks very much for all your effort. I am a foreign national holding dual nationality . I applied to OCi in lieu of a valid pio card. My wife is Indian. My file was rejected . It said : ' NATIVE ADDRESS PROOF IS MISSING'. What does this mean? when filling the application I did not see a box which implies (native address proof). Thank you very much. Sam

So I’ve uploaded all documents and I can view every single document except previous Indian passport of my self it’s been uploaded successfully but wen I try to view it, it keeps giving me blank page or error but all the other documents I can view them expect this.
As long as it’s successfully uploaded and attached you should be good.
