For OCI courier services, they charge an additional 30$(as of Aug 2023) for drop off of original documents in Toronto, though OCI has no original documents required(for the majority of us?). There is no way to uncheck that option when you use the combined 'Pick up and Drop off' option. But I think if you do 'Pick up' separately and then 'Drop off' separately, the separate drop off option does not add on the 'Original Drop off' fees and you may save money. I haven't tried this as I discovered this after :( but hope this helps.
If you have been charged extra just ask them to share breakdown and you can contest. I got my money back all three times. Thank you for sharing
Just follow the steps.
1. Ask them for details. If you don’t get add MEA to CC in email
2. Once you get breakdown ask for refund of money which they promptly will do. I initiated after two months and got it

1- Can you confirm that there really are no original documents to submit? The information is so inconsistent everywhere.
2- Is it possible to authorize someone else to pick up on your behalf?
I'd be applying from Vancouver, but I think BLS rules are probably the same in Toronto and Vancouver. Would appreciate your inputs!
@@finsandscales Hey, we didn't submit any originals. But we haven't got any feedback on it yet. So perhaps not the best person to ask. But the video author does suggest the same somewhere else too I believe.
re: authorization delegation. not sure, consider just putting in the address of someone else as no one verified our credentials when they returned it to the condo. But best to phone and check?
One video blasted 98% percent of my inhibitions on filing OCI. Another 2% is for these questions:
1. Do I print color or b&w?
2. Do I stick the photo on top the printed photo location in the application or just leave it small envelope in the filing package?
Color photos and send that separately. I secured with metal paper clip.

you need to renounce your indian citizenship first if you have acquired different nationality and then follow this process and get your oci this is two part process, video covers last part only. Renunciation part takes about 2-3 weeks

Question - I am a 23 year old Canadian citizen, my OCI was issued in 2010 , using my old Canadian passport (issued 2008, expired 2018). Now I want to upload details of my new Canadian passport (issued 2018, my age was 18), it does not give me an option to upload the details without submitting a Re-Issuing OCI application. The instructions say the re-issuing OCI application is only to be submitted if the new passport was issued after age of 20. So I am stuck.

None of the examples explain the postal code issue. Do we not add the postal code to the present address and only add it where it asks for zip code to avoid having the postal code listed twice when final pdf is generated? Really confusing bc the application doesnt follow Canadian address rules

Hi the renunciation certificate will go as supporting document when sending physical copy. If you want you can create one pdf with cancelled passport and upload. Thank you

Don’t send any original documents. I have seen people loosing it. Go as per the video only photocopies except for photographs

It’s okay as long as you have not done payment to VFS you can start fresh application. Do remember to send the correct one with the application fee. They will process the application which you send.

You can apply from where you are now. For lost passports I think VFS Global is the agency. A call to them would help. Logically when you loose any such documents police FIR is the first thing you do.

For fresh adult oci application if we have the surrender certificate but we don't have the original canceled indian passport but only the photo copy of indian passport(doses'nt have cancellation stamp) can the application be accepted? If not, what else to use as indian origin proof ?
You don’t submit the original cancelled photos. All you send is photocopy of cancellation certificate and photocopy of passport. Hope this helps

Hello, Thank you for this amazing explanation. Is it okay if I scan my documents using camscanner app ? Will that be acceptable when submitting online application. It converts to .pdf but is keeping its watermark on the corner of each document.
Not a problem. You can also take photo on phone and bring photo to Microsoft word and save the file as pdf. This is another option

Hi OCI process is standard across all places. I had not submitted domicile certificate. If you have got your citizenship of UK recently then why domicile certificate is required?

Hi I am sure I have clearly explained this part and this cannot be missed. Just select unemployed from drop down and that should be good. It has no consequences on application and you don’t have to send any supporting documents

Hello, Once you submit the application along with supporting documents as per the check list to BLS for the surrender certificate, what is the process after that? Do they send you back Indian passport with cancelled stamp along with the surrender certificate? Then you apply for OCI ? I have filed Surrender certificate online, got BLS in person appointment to submit documents, just curious what is the next step? Thanks
Hi Prabhhyot. Yes consulate will cancel the passport and send that along with the surrender certificate. Once you get that OCI can be applied

Hi, thanks a lot for the wonderful video!! I have a question about the cost of OCI applications? Considering we have 2 applications, one for me and one for my wife, will it be cheaper to get it done at the centre or will it be cheaper by post? During the surrender certificate application, I noticed that they do charge more than what they publish online when applying in person
Hi I am not sure of cheaper if it is in person I have always initiated online for two reason. 1. I avoid dealing with BLS rep and I don’t have to take off from my work schedule and stand in line. You guess is as good as mine. I have seen comments on how they reject photos and documents when in person even if it is as per requirement

With the upload it is not required however as a photocopy this will be required. To make it easy get both canceled photo and surrender certificate as one document and upload as pdf

@vinayparamanand930 Hi Surrender certificate is not part of upload but sending photocopy along with application. I made cancelled passport and surrender certificate as one single document and uploaded. Hope this helps

Just a piece of paper with handwritten statement that person is currently unemployed should do or mention student.

Does that mean my OCI is not valid? Should I now get an eVisa as I am going to India in 8 days? i did not know about rhis back in 2018. Help please. Thanks
No OCI is for lifetime you just need to update by going to the website
Hi, I received my OCI card when I was 18 in 2019 as I received my old passport at that time now in 2024 I received my new passport I’m 23 now so I need to apply for reissuance of oci card or I can just update my passport particulars?
Hi in your case it will be reissue of passport as it needs change after the age of 20 years due to facial changes

Hi I would suggest call BLS helpline. By logic if you are doing online application location shouldn’t be a problem. BLS is just collection agency on behalf of CGI. When the book gets printed it has CGI Toronto seal. For OCI you will need surrender certificate. Hope this helps

Would the place of Issue for passport be same as the Issuing authority place or would it be the city where you reside in when you got the passport?
You will have to check the passport. It gets stamped and mentions the place of issue. Just enter that. If you had different question let me know
