DE HAAR CASTLE 🇳🇱 Utrecht Drone Aerial 4K | Woerden Vleuten Meern Holland

De Haar castle is an impressive castle in the province of Utrecht in the Netherlands. The castle is located close to the towns of Vleuten, Maarssen, Montfoort and Harmelen. This medieval castle of De Haar was built in the 14th century. In 1391 De Haar family received the castle and the land from the Hendrik van Woerden. In 1482 the castle changed hands and went to the Van Zuylen family. In 1801 the last Van Zuylen owner died. Nowadays the castle is preserved and protected by the De Haar Foundation and can be visited by tourists.

Althought the castle looks marvelous, it basically a newbuild structure in 1892 on the foundations of the ruins of an earlier castle. The new build was under famous architect Pierre Cuypers (of Amsterdam Central station and Rijksmuseum fame). In 1892 under assignment of the Baron Van Zuylen van Nyeveld van Haar financed by his wife, Hélène de Rothschild, of the incredibly wealthy Rothschild family. Construction took 20 years, finishing up in 1912. As part of the reconstruction, to allow for large gardens, the small village Haarszuilens was demolished and rebuild a kilometer further east.
