    1100 total in first powerlifting comp in seven years with a short 5 weeks prep after winning the 4 biggest competitions in strongman, all in one year. Badass

      it's not like he didn't train during those 7 years ! Sure he trained strongman but his main training was still focused on the big 3 or a close variation. And when he's prepping for a strongman event, he's getting ready for a competition that will last for a few days, this powerlifting meet was a "walk in the park" for him lol
      He is the world strongest man after all !

      he's definitely capable of 2500+., but I'd like to see him actually compete with people, not just try to put up a huge total in his own gym. Join USPA and go against the best. Sometimes tactics come into play with the attempts, e.g. you might not need a 20kg increase on 3rd attempt to get the win, or you might need more. I'm not saying totals like this don't count, of course it all counts, but in context, a lower total but 1st place at a big meet is more impressive.

      @@Azamidd his max deadlift will always be defined by his grip limit, not by his deadlifting power (lower back, legs etc.). Same with Eddie Hall. But grip strength is Thor's weakness (compared to all the other strength aspects). Guys like Brian Shaw, Mike Burke or Mark Felix have had a much better grip than Thor. He had nerve damage in his right arm which affects his grip strength quite a bit. I for one was surprised that he pulled 410 without any apparent grip problems. 410kg deadlift in powerlifting competition is amazing and high-end-elite-level.

  • @bobbyrau382
    @bobbyrau382 5 років тому +22

    Thor didn't get the world record today but he was extremely close. There were 2 *tiny* failures that made him miss it.
    1. He needed about 1 more inch of depth on his 3rd squat, this is not a strength issue, he pressed it with speed and ease, if he did 1 inch lower it wouldn't have changed his performance on the lift, but would have gotten him the white lights.
    2. He was 3/4 up the deadlift on his 3rd attempt and still going, it was not grinding at all. The back strength and all is there EXCEPT his grip. Get his grip up by 5% and it would have been a go.
    If those 2 tiny mistakes didn't occur we would have seen a new all time world record today.

    Great squat and deadlift but bench not so much. Sarychev has done almost 200lbs more raw so if I was Thor that's what I would be working on most. His first deadlift looked like he could double it. Also something to be said for taller guys on the bench and squat in that they have to travel much longer distance in their movement. They may in fact even be stronger than someone who does the same weight but is shorter. But the deadlift they have an advantage.

      @maia3420 5 років тому

      Rich Lee At this class of weight I can believe it, but the sleeves give you some too.
      Even if he couldn’t beat Ray, he’s the only one he couldn’t beat since Ray is more than 40 kg over second place. They’re almost dead even on the bench, Ray’s got maybe a 50-75 lb advantage on the squat and Thor has almost the same with the deadlift.
      Thor would walk away with the Gold Medal for Deadlift, Silver for Squat and Silver Overall at worst if he entered the IPF. I’d really like to see it. He and Ray are the same age so they’re at similar stages. It would up Ray’s game too. He’s so comfortably ahead of his competition that he never fails a lift (except once or twice in squat depth, not because it was too heavy). He’s not forced to max out on any of his lifts.

    • @cramz101
      @cramz101 5 років тому +1

      Rich Lee This is true. It’s even more apparent in the women’s division. For example the strongest tested female raw bench of all time is Bonica Brown’s 150 kg bench. The tested record male bench is around double that. I realized even juiced there are extremely few women indeed who can clear 300 lbs or 135 kg on the bench, but a tested lifter? I can only think of 3 off hand that can clear that much and they all are the strongest in their weight classes even in total.
