I love this guy, finally a therapist who says it as it is! Having been a nurse for many years and who is now an 'elderly' woman with so much life experience, I agree with him totally. Life is hard, we have to deal with it. Why people expect anything else has to mean they've been over protected.

I dealt with it, until I couldn't, then I got diagnosed with autism. Maybe if I had been diagnosed earlier and had known what I know now, things would have been easier. Stop judging people. People like you have been making life more difficult for me my entire life without stopping to consider that I might have reasons for my struggles. I should have been diagnosed in 2006 when I had my first major breakdown.

I've seen a lot of psychiatrists over the years but none with a sense of humour and ability to laugh at himself like this guy.

Wonderful interview ! Love how this man tells it like it is. I have such disdain for psychologists, for some of the points he brought up but if I ever decided to consult one, it could only be a proper, decent and honest one like him. Moreover, as a half-english national I sometimes find it quite complex to understand what english people are actually meaning to say as they rarely get straight to the point out of politeness/good manners, etc... so I find his bluntness, the way in which he doesn't shy away from calling crap when he sees it, so refreshing !

Russell Brand isn't 'too intelligent ' he's just grandiose. Often he doesn't even know the proper meanings of many of the grandiose words he uses. He is manipulative, entitled and also believes he's more intelligent than everyone else.
Yes, he often uses his 'big' words completely out of context.

It’s because Brand overuses the hand gestures that has me noticing the same hand gestures from most if not all politicians and I now see it as a tell of inauthenticity and manipulation. I’m immediately turned off and distrust people who do the same.

Not excusing Harry’s actions however I see his attraction to his wife as a trauma bond as his grief and losing his mother so young is exactly what attracted him to a woman who has done a lot emulate Princess Diana.

Or, to ask - what benefit am I getting by believing this conspiracy? What victim behavior am I justify with it? We all have the answers within ourselves, if we're just brave enough to ask - ourselves. Great interview, Andrew. This guy is solid, and he has a good sense of humor!
Most people believe in conspiracies because it makes them feel less ashamed of being ignorant. Just deny truth and knowledge because you cant access it or are not privy to it. Instead believe in fantasies and stories that demonize the truth and the knowledge that you dont understand, or believe in. Then you get to remain a low level underachiever but feel really superior and proud of it.
I think Brand did some terrible things. He probably was so drugged he doesn't even remember what he's done. As for Harry he definitely needs help. Being hen-pecked by Meghan would be enough to throw him over the edge!

Dr. Raj is very smart. He knows how lawyers and psychiatrists think and react in the celebrity world. I love listening a psychiatrist's perspective on the Scientology stuff and celebrities as human beings and as a brand.

A really great discussion with Dr. Raj and totally concur with his more proactive take on therapy. Naval gazing for years won't change a thing and CBT ( Cognitive behavioural therapy) with a mix of getting 'stuff' off your chest as to say is much more beneficial in the long (short) term! in my opinion also. Change and agency is not necessarily that easy and some people would rather carry the victim card rather than let go. Not to say that what other's have done or what events have taken place makes it alright. But healing and recovering is what we really are seeking is it not? ( Lighter note. Brand looked scared as sh*t and harry has become a king... Of the simps!)

How interesting to see Dr Persaud here. I happen to have had a copy of his book On The Edge for Years (not that I've read it all, just dipped in and out) without knowing that he was so popular. I picked it up at work, where it was no longer wanted. Now I'll have to have a proper read.

Dr Ray hit the nail when saying life is hard for everybody. Problem for many is that we were over protected, shielded and pampered and not raised or educated to face lifes many hardships. So many lives at home at 30 years old now. Grown adult living like children. I have nothing against living toghether with multiple generations under same roof, but that cant be to continue to allow grown children to lie in bed all day watching, playing and on the social net. That is pathetic adult children.

I used to be addicted to Sudafed too! I went to my doctor and they gave me a steroid nose spray which enabled me to stop using Sudafed without the rebound congestion.
Nasal rinse sprays are much more effective and safer..
The foxes mum died in a car incident. Thing is though, he was The King of Foxes. Harry, well, he was jealous.
Life is complicated. Apparently and expensively so.
I completely understand Dr Persaud's professional reserve stance : avoiding making a diagnosis or assuming what was in RB's mind in that video is obviously what a true professional should do.
Let me say, though, that Brand's gas-lighting and deflecting guilt onto the victim, making her a culprit by having "known what to expect" from him if he invited her for a coffee. That's not what I would call a "defence" it simply is a typical trick of the narcissist to put their own guilt on their victim. Calling this "not a very good defence" is a mild way of interpreting a very conscious manipulation of the truth.

Dr Raj is a great interview, a good Therapist will make a living from recommendations, a bad one will have patients like Harry, who has to spend their life going back.

Someone told me she'd been in therapy for seven years, and believed that was the length of time everyone should take to reach the answers/realisation.
So is having no strategy at all a sign of innocence or guilt? Getting charged with serious allegations even if you are innocent isn't a time to be calm! Just the opposite, being too calm would raise a red flag that there's something screwy going on upstairs guilty or innocent.
If the evidence is so credible against him im quite sure his lawyer would have already advised him to try settle out of court which makes me think hes innocent most people just would not take the chance that they could go to prison

Flashback for me. My late ex was an alcoholic. He got forced to go to AA a few times. The first night he came home with a high and mighty smirk. "Well, I learned something. I have an excuse. I have a DISEASE. And YOU are sicker than me - you are co-dependant."
He left it at that with his excuse that it was OK for me to work 2 jobs and for him to take all of my salary to buy vodka instead of milk for the 3 kids.
I told him, "Fine. Now get out." (I was the 'bitch who kicked the mean when he was down'.
Andrew, please invite the Black Belt Barrister and Legal Eagle to discuss an issue, celebrity or politician (e.g. Trump and George Santos) from the legal POV. I am shy and cannot never have the confidence to have my own UA-cam channel, so I am basically giving you ideas about what kind of videos you you can make in the future. I love your channel because it educates people unlike other channels that just repeat the gossip they see in the headlines.

He's more in the grifter class of therapists. Like motivation type of thing. It can work for small things if you want it to work.
Deep down we have lots of traumas, psychological wounds. They may not be big for some other people but are core to us. So it does not really matter if this guy wants to play the tough guy and diminish them. He should keep dealing with narcissists that need to change their image and feel great about it.
If you actually want to fix deep seated problems arising from different traumas, it takes years, and it never ends. It's also quite difficult, unlike changing behavior. It's about accepting the past in a healthy way so it does not haunt you. Then you have to fix whatever thought pattern arose from that, and it's where Mate is good, because he points out those early traumas or lack of needs met when a child can affect people greatly and it is pretty much impossible to fix entirely.
That's a reality Persaud denies, which is a problem in my opinion. He's giving people some hacks instead of an overall self building, which is the problem of most serious problems. Harry has a problem of the self, he is searching who he is and what he wants to be and who he should be. It's almost impossible to do with such constant scrutiny and moralizing from people that are jealous or feel entitled to his life. Now it's true his tactic in doing so as it is backfires, but that's why it is hard to change. People want him to be a victim, so he accepts that role and in doing so, he gets blamed for it. There is a whole industry that just waits for his next move to criticize him, and that will be probably for eternity. What he would need is fight back and treat them like crap, but he won't do that.

I recall a commentor mentioned that they lived in East Vancouver and that doctor worked in that area for several years. I lived in E. Van for 10 yrs, never heard of him.
The Russel Brand allegations made me hyper aware of just how much Russel uses his hands to get across ideas and just how manipulative doing that is and then I noticed how much the same hand movements where done in the second Republican debate. It sticks out like a sore thumb now when anyone does these same hand movements aren’t being honest and it’s rather calculated thing to do to add emphasis to what’s being said, but it’s very inauthentic behavior so intuitively I sense individuals who do these kinds of hand movements are untrustworthy and are motivated to tell people what they think people want to hear.
@Sarah-with-an-H. Perhaps when it comes to Russell you're absolutely right and so is Dr. Raj. However, did you notice how much even Dr. Raj gesticulated in this video? I've always been a bit suspect of body language professionals because they seem to all overlook one very important mitigating factor...culture! People of different cultures have different affectations, varying types of gesticulations and this even applies to eye contact. Just as an example, there are some countries where children are taught not to look someone in the eye if that person is older, in a position of authority or they are being reprimanded. They carry that into their adulthood.
@@veroniquedemauroet7489 I wasn’t watching this video I was listening. Also the inflection in this guy’s voice didn’t have preacher vibes. L have to watch the video. There’s also a possibility that this doctor talks with his hands which are a different and circular sort of hand gestures that are more rounded in nature instead of kind of rigid and forced . Regardless I got the impression of a manipulative tactic from one that sets off alarms and something more genuine from this doctor. I’m also highly intuitive and pick up on vibes and intentions aren’t always noticeable . I had to figure that out quick as a kid for survival

To be fair to Freud, he and Jung were among the first in the field. Today Freud might be alot more rapid. So much more is known now.
Dr Raj a brilliant therapist so knowledgable and spot on with the PURPOSE of therapy! I used to work with people using Human Givens Therapy (now retired) very effective over a couple of sessions!

On Brand and he's-too-good-looking speaks to the part of us (human beings) that always associates bad with ugly. People seem to have a built-in mental picture of someone ugly, frightening to look upon, disgusting, etc. The Devil. Some of the worst serial killers and criminals have been attractive. That's why many have been so prolific. People by now know this, but we fall for it every time. Bonus tip: trust no one.
Excellent point @musiqueguy1. If this had been known in the 70s, Ted Bundy would have never been able to murder 30+ women. However, unless one is a Sapiensexual, Russell Brand is not anywhere near a good-looking man.
These seem to me strange criticisms of Gabor Mate. He is not Prince Harry’s therapist; they did one interview. So there was no reason not to be “sympthetic” or to place more emphasis on therapy to make him change….it’s not a therapy, it was one session.
And yes, it addressed trauma. I can’t fathom what is wrong with that. We are of course talking about cPTSD and the main cPTSD experts say it is quite common.
I’m not very impressed with someone who rather frivously criticises another person, without seeming to know very much about that person, about the field that person moves in, and even about the interview itself.

Psychologists are just very expensive friends I've concluded - they claim the same perfunctory role. "Psychs for Psychs" is their help group.. often they'll be open that they be suffered trauma and abuse themselves and 'that spurred them on to make this career choice'... Err?? What's you just say?

If I were being accused of sexual assault I would be extremely anxious. I would have imagined that being calm about it would raise one's suspicion of guilt, not lowered it.
