- Flat Earther David Weiss debates me about the science of the earth being round, as I look to debunk what I think is his conspiracy theory. This is round 2 of our previous debate on the Shaun Attwood show with Professor Dave Explains. This is a response to globebusters, and a chance to hear what a flat earther really thinks, and will be a conversation that considers who we should trust, how knowledge is passed down and how cult thinking takes ahold of us. The question is: which of us is in a cult?

Part of communication is being able to get another person to be able to understand your point so you break things down in a way that they receive your message. Failing to do so (as you have) means the listener/reader isn't getting anything out of the interaction. You also lack the self awareness to realize you're in an echo chamber and it's riddled with pseudo science in order to try to give that idea some sort of validity.

After all, they used mathematical equations that they came up with themselves to try to discredit everything that is currently held as true, so why is it that they have no evidence other than sending people to watch UA-cam videos? I mean... in order to do what they're claiming to have done they'd have to be the most brilliant group of people in the history of the world, but they not only don't have experiments that you can replicate that involve actual science/physics/mathematics, but they don't have any sort of inventions or creations to advance us in "the right direction". I made a comment in one of the @FTFE dissections of this "discussion" that Dirth was constantly not answering questions, and instead stealing the time to launch his own monologue. The technique is to phrase things so they answer _a_ question, just not _the_ question that was asked. I can see how people who wish to ingratiate themselves with others will fall victim to this form of aggression. A timid person can't be an effective interviewer.

As a sailor who lived on boats for over a decade one soon learns that navigation charts tell you the height of the lighthouses for a reason. At some point depending on how high the lighthouse is you lose sight of it because it dips below the horizon. Knowing that gives you an idea of how far you are from crashing into the rocks in the middle of the night. Furthermore, one uses different stars to navigate with depending on whether you are north or south of the equator. South of the equator you can no longer see the north star. The tide charts tell you how high the water will rise and fall each day which is dictated by the gravity of the moon. The farther one gets from the equator the greater the rise and fall of the water is. On a flat earth none of this makes any sense. One also learns that true north and south is different from magnetic north and south and you have to adjust for that as you get closer to the poles. This is usually noted on navigation charts. Sometimes the chart will tell you as you pass a certain island which is high in iron that magnetic direction goes a bit wonky and you have to adjust for it. Anyone who has played with magnets understands the principle. The earth is one big magnet. Just remember that Columbus left those flat earth idiots back in Spain in 1492.

The fact that you navigate with the same stars that sailors have used for 1000's of years, proves FE. You would never see the same stars on a ball spinning travelling 4.4 billion miles per year, in 4 different directions, while shooting 1.3 million mph into nothing.
What evidence/ experiment do you have to prove earth's movements?
I guarantee that you have never seen a 14 mile bulge of water at the equator. Even the fake photos of Earth don't show that.

Earth is a big magnet? What evidence do you have of that. No one has been deeper than 8 miles. At the curie point of 570C (1060F) a magnet will lose its magnetic properties.

1) According to flat Earthers, sunsets occur because we cannot see the sun after it would supposedly get so far from our point of view that the atmosphere hides it... But at 21:00 UTC, there is sunlight simultaneously in Sydney (Australia) where it's 7:00 am and in Santiago (Chile) where it's 17:00. Meanwhile, on a flat map, both these cities are on a complete opposite side of the world... How would this be possible since we aren't supposed to see the sun when it gets too far? Answer: the Earth is not flat, and sunsets occur because the sun gets hidden by the curvature of our planet.
2) If the Earth was flat, the further you would be from the north pole, the faster you would see the sun moving, since speed = distance/time and in a circle, the circumpherence increases the further you go from the center. If someone lived 500 km from the North pole in a flat world, he would see the sun going at v = 2*500*PI/24hrs = 130 km/h
Meanwhile, someone living 9500 km from the North pole (probably somewhere in South America), using the same calculation but with 9500km instead of 500, would see the sun going at 2487 km/h, meaning 19 times faster than someone living at 500km from the North pole, which would be quite noticeable.
However, this does not make sense, since we all see the sun moving at the same speed no matter where you are located, meaning that the world we live on isn't a flat circle. It's a globe with a similar radius everywhere.

My husband is a pilot, & also, we’re both USAF vets who’ve flown thousands of hours at various altitudes- My EYES tell me the Earth is a sphere. We personally know astronauts, and we believe them.
You can't see the curvature of the earth from a planes altitude.
And if you look at footage of the space jump in sixties your eyes will see a flat horizon-no curve

Ive been on photoshop for 25+ Years, stiched together photos RAW from camera, used fisheye lens as an effect.
Id have 1 question to say to him : an effect on a 2d image Photo or video covers the ENTIRE area. This would mean putting a fisheye effect on a video would distort the earth surface AND anything else in the shot like the the stars, the planet...

Why do all engineers take into account the curvature of the earth in building long bridges, and when they did not, they fell.
@denisdaly1708 the longest bridge ever built is in China, it's 104 miles long, not one foot of curvature has been detected. Try and do some research, 5 mins and you would have known that before you posted.
Regarding my superchat of MAGE 2, it is Mr.Sensible's balloon that showed curvature with a non distorting lens. Furthermore, any (minimal) barrel distortion was corrected beforehand and two straight, tight strings were placed in front of the lens to show that (as if the string were still straight, then there is no distortion to the image). Dave's answer was pitiful and he tried to suggest that we see in a circle? Firstly, he was comparing the horizon on the ground to 39km up in the air. Secondly, there was no evidence to support his 'circle vision' hypothesis. MAGE also shows pressure steadily reducing with elevation, to 0.006 Atmospheres at 39,000m which debunks his nonsense of a vacuum next to a pressurised system. As he also believes in a 'dome' above the earth, how high is it!? As this video shows the balloon is 24 miles up and it still doesn't reach the magical, non-proven firmament.

@@1WaarheidSure. As always a theory is valid until disproven by another theory. Yet, a theory must be able to explain what can be observed. Otherwise it is pretty useless.
Still the gravitational force is relatively weak compared to other observable forces. The gravitational force can be observed using large masses. I agree that there are different theories trying to explain that force. Personally this is something where I diverge from mainstream. Though while I have my own ideas around that, I don't have a full answer to the origin of that force.
Gravity is not a literal force, it’s the warping of space due to mass. The theory that predicted black holes.
Every flerf I've ever seen perform a test concerning the shape of the Earth found out the result did indeed point to it being a globe which results in them vacantly staring for a bit before going "the test must have been flawed" .. to spite it being entirely their idea.

You draw this horizontal line by looking straight at the horizon. if I were to draw this on a page using a scaled down globe, you would be drawing a Tangent line that ends at the horizon. If you don't know what a tangent line is - it is a horizontal line drawn on a curve.

@Andrew Gold Use the Southern Star Trails (SST) for an argument against the flat earth. I live in Australia and nobody can try and tell me that the Southern Cross "doesn't" circle the SCP (just like the Big Dipper circles the NCP). In the SH you can see the SST by taking note of the Southern Cross position (viewed in stages throughout the night). Tell him that, and he can't deny it.
The SST are due South from Australia. So ask him what direction do we see the same thing from South America? Ask him that and then tell him to look on the flat earth "map". This is the BEST flat earth debunk! And being Australian, I'm so proud of the Southern Cross. And to think that iron Horse and MitchellFromAustralia both live in Australia...with the Southern Cross costantly wizzing around their heads every singe day (and night) that's completely destroying them every second of every day! 😅 l see one side of the circle on summer nights and the other side on winter nights.

Physics of water.. bodies of water need containing and will always seek level, the surface will always be level and flat on the surface no matter how large the body of water.
We can see too far... we can see much further than the earth curvature would allow us to see due to the curve/physical horizon, and using zoom lenses shows this very easily.
The closest star is 25 trillion miles away. It would take 750,000 years to get there travelling at one mile per second. The inverse square law of light dictates you wouldn't see the light from that star or any other stars that are much further away.
The stars rotate around Polaris (the north star) and have never changed since human observation.. all while the sun is travelling around the galaxy at 500,000mph (4.1 billion miles a year) being chased by the planets.. astrology is based on the never changing constellations that rotate around Polaris every year.
Selenelion eclipse.. the shadow of earth on the moon coming down from the top of the moon whilst the sun and moon are both observable in the sky... this would obviously be impossible.

The earth is both flat and round. Fractals teach us that as you approach a curve closer and closer, the curve flattens out and becomes a straight line or horizon. So the earth is flat when viewed from its surface, due to how gradual the curve is, but round when viewed from miles out in space. Again because of the perspective. Now that's settled the matter.
If a person in England takes a picture of a full moon at the same time a friend in Australia does and swaps images immediately, then the image from Australia will appear UPSIDE-DOWN to the person in England and vice versa!!!! The only way this can happen is that we are living on a SPHERE!!! It would be IMPOSSIBLE to achieve that on a flat "plate"!

As an amateur astronomer (somewhat past tense) I would be happy to discuss David's plane/stars model at 31:28. Though it was brief and in need of clarification, he seemed to be maintaining the opposite to what we actually observe from different times and locations on earth. Astronomy doesn't contradict a spherical earth, it proves it. Astronomical calculations would be completely hopeless with a flat-earth model, especially in the southern hemisphere. That is why the flat earthers can't formulate location/time star charts. Astronomers, on the other hand, can. They can even tell you, decades in advance, when and where eclipses will occur, right down to seconds. FEers wouldn't know where to start. It would be comical to watch them try.

Have a question for David Weiss, if you need to see something to believe it's true. The argument that if I can't see it myself so it's not provable has a flaw in your I believe in a creator of everything, but I've never seen it. I ask this out of curiosity, and yes I believe in God and also that we live on a globe, and my belief in God does not require either a flat or glove earth.
