On the blog you'll find recipes with step-by-step photos and explanations of the how's and why's of cooking (like why patting a steak dry before searing is so important, or how the hardness of your tap water can affect the strength of your bread dough). Happy cooking!

    You can also multiply the whole recipe by 10 and make a peanut butter cup for a really bad day

    The only problem with this prep is that when you bite into them the peanut butter mix will come squishing out. I would suggest that you paint the first bit of chocolate up the sides of the cupcake paper holder and then follow on from there as demonstrated in the video. You can always shave of the little extra bit of chocolate to smothen the edge. And then you have a fully enclosed home-made peanut butter cup :)

    The whisk probably won't be strong enough because the mixture is very thick, but you could use something like a wooden spoon, and just make sure everything is very well mixed.

    if you want a homemade reese cup to really taste like a reese cup youve gotta add graham cracker crumbs to your peanut butter mixture. if you wanna get real detailed, you run the graham cracker crumbs through a sifter or screen and get the large bits out, tastes just like the real deal. not trying to be mean by the way, loved the vid. just tryin to pass on the info.

      It is indeed a very high quality pan. Very thick and heavy, I love it! I just looked and it says "American Pan Made in USA" but looking online I'm not sure if they go by the name American Pan or USA pan. Anyway, I got it from Williams-Sonoma but I don't see it on their site anymore, but I found them on Amazon.

    But if you put the chocolate chips in a sandwich bag and put that bag in hot water, it would melt the chocolate inside the bag, you snip the tip off and pour the content into the muffin tins, and after you don't have to clean a bowl!

    I don't like to use the double-boiler because it's harder to control the temperature = easier to burn the chocolate and I always check with a thermometer, but that's just me... shouldn't the chocolate be tempered? It's the main reason I control the temperature so closely. I always make homemade peanut butter and they're sooo good in their own, no need to add any sugar to it

    • @FifteenSpatulas
      @FifteenSpatulas  9 років тому

      Beatriz Corbetta Reis I only temper when I need to and I find it's not necessary here. And definitely no need to add sugar to the PB if you don't want to =)

    • @Bee-ol1xr
      @Bee-ol1xr 9 років тому

      Fifteen Spatulas I hope you didn't take it the wrong way that I made a few notes, I wasn't trying to be rude or obnoxious, I promise. I always temper because my country is like summer for 95% of the year so it melts veeeeery easily... does it hold its shape well jusy by melting it? I've been craving for a PB snack and I just bough peanuts to make a homemade peanut butter

    Peanut butter & chocolate, what's not to love? You make it look so easy to make your own peanut butter cups and I love the idea of using the cookie scoop. We have a Buckeye Brownie recipe that is a classic...main ingredients are (you guessed it!) peanut butter and chocolate!

  • @ElectronMoses
    @ElectronMoses 11 років тому +5

    My favorite way to melt chocolate is put it in a zip lock bag, place that in a bowl, boil some water and pour that over the chocolate bag. Because the water is hot but cooling down it will never over heat the chocolate. Plus once it's melted you can snip the tip of the bag and pipe the chocolate. Great for decorating.

  • @ThePinProject
    @ThePinProject 9 років тому +1

    I use the microwave method to melt chocolate as well, double boiler method is too much effort lol. I tried this recipe as well and even tried out the TWIX chocolate :)

  • @FifteenSpatulas
    @FifteenSpatulas  11 років тому

    Yes, but in that case I recommend making a chocolate ganache instead of using melted chocolate, otherwise it will be too hard to bite. Chocolate ganache is very easy to make (just google), it's basically chocolate mixed with heavy cream to make it softer and richer.

  • @FifteenSpatulas
    @FifteenSpatulas  11 років тому

    Hm, interesting. Did you use a natural peanut butter or one with hydrogenated oil? Sometimes the natural peanut butters are thicker and more difficult to stir. You could get it to thin out by adding some oil, but then of course you're adding a bit of extra fat.

  • @FifteenSpatulas
    @FifteenSpatulas  11 років тому +1

    You toss it in the freezer after that layer briefly to set it, but it never really freezes, just chills.

  • @luckykitty1205
    @luckykitty1205 10 років тому +3

    I ate Reese's last night and I have a recipe
    You could use the same amount as this video
    Their chocolate is hazelnut so I think you need nutella..cus its hazelnut
    You also need peanut butter with granulated or any sugar..you could also just leave it without sugar
    And thats my observation..I hope you try it

  • @FifteenSpatulas
    @FifteenSpatulas  11 років тому

    The sugar here is just to sweeten to taste, it doesn't provide anything structural in the recipe, so you can leave it out if you'd like. I don't know if it will taste good but whatever tastes good to you is perfect!

  • @FifteenSpatulas
    @FifteenSpatulas  11 років тому

    Did you use natural peanut butter or a homogenized one like Jif or Skippy? I'm wondering if maybe your butter was softened too much.

  • @FifteenSpatulas
    @FifteenSpatulas  11 років тому +1

    Hi Lexy, if you're looking for a softer chocolate experience, you can make a chocolate ganache. I can't post links here but if you google it you will find out how to make it (it's just chocolate with heavy cream added to it).

  • @Nanoforge1
    @Nanoforge1 9 років тому +25

    Good tutorial but I like that totally enrobed in chocolate look. What I do is after putting the peanut butter filling in and banging it down to level, I go around the edge with a toothpick to pull some of the filling back from the sides. That way when I pour the chocolate on top, it flows into the area between the paper and the filling giving the candy an overall encapsulated look much like the store bought ones.

    • @FifteenSpatulas
      @FifteenSpatulas  9 років тому +2

      Nanoforge1 That's great!

    • @sydneysmith6742
      @sydneysmith6742 8 років тому +12

      you can also just not bang it and just put peanut butter in the middle and then pour more chocolate over that

  • @FifteenSpatulas
    @FifteenSpatulas  11 років тому +1

    It should work fine, it might have a thicker consistency and won't be sweet, but try and see if you like it, it might suit your tastes. And yes, I still suggest freezing each layer so they stay a bit separated.

  • @FifteenSpatulas
    @FifteenSpatulas  11 років тому

    Unfortunately I don't think it would work well since the sugar won't dissolve.

    I used natural peanut butter, Smuckers brand. Basically just ground up peanuts with a little salt. You can use any kind of peanut you'd like though! If you want smoother peanut butter filling, you can use the smooth peanut butters with partially hydrogenated oil. I don't like that partially hydrogenated oil so I just use natural.

  • @FifteenSpatulas

    I love peanut butter and chocolate together...such a great combo!

  • @FifteenSpatulas
    @FifteenSpatulas  11 років тому

    I'm confused about why or how you'd cut the peanut butter cups, but it sounds like you have the right idea if you'd like a softer chocolate experience, add cream and make a ganache. I don't like the ganache personally but that's the great thing about a recipe, you can tweak it to make it however you like it best. Happy cooking!

  • @FifteenSpatulas
    @FifteenSpatulas  11 років тому

    You don't have to, but the layering won't be as precise (if you don't care about the look of it, then you can skip it). Hope you enjoy!
