HELLO Aiko, that's great. Well, wait until this season, I'm trying to grow a true giant. If I get it done , I will be so hyped up. Thanks for watching and commenting. Happy Holidays.
The affects of cross-pollination won't be until the seeds from that fruit are grown out. Unless he replants his own seeds or the vendor had cross pollinated plants they won't be hybrid.
HELLO Marvin, that is cool. I wonder if we plant the seeds next time, will we get the same results. I have people asking to buy some of those seeds. I will see if those seeds sprout up first. Enjoy yours also. Thanks for watching and commenting.
HELLO Ray, when did they do that? Just curious, I used the seeds that came out that big red melon from last year. Have you grown melons like that before? Thanks for the info.
1st time grower here! Thank you for the tips! My watermelons are growing. I’m naturally fertilizing my crops. But I’m going to get some of the fertilizer you suggested. I’m also growing peaches n’ cream corm, pumpkins, cantaloupe, cucumber, cauliflower, tomatoes, bell peppers, cabbage, onions, & ginger. I grew tomatoes a few years ago and the grew like crazy. I grew just about every variation. I had so much I had trouble giving them away! This is the first time I’m seeing some success with my watermelons growing. I’m let a very close eye on everything. Any tips about anything else will be appreciated. Thank you !
HEY, @Sweethoney!!! It looks like you have it down. Remember to water your plants. Look for pest pressure. The squashbug love melon plants, and they can damage your plants. I have a video called How to Take Care of Watermelon Plants during the growing season.
Man that’s a neat looking melon. If you get it to do that again from those seeds you may be sitting on your own variety. How cool would that be! I have a black diamond close to being ready and my royal goldens have put on two melons so far.

HELLO KawakebAstra, Thanks for the compliment. That melon was so juicy. I can remember what type of seed it was. I do buy some heirloom seeds, and I just get some straight off the rack. I have not bought watermelon seeds in a few years. I get my seeds out of the melon. Some said those Crimson Sweet seeds were modified for that. It could be, but last year, my Crimson Sweet was red like every year. I pulled those seeds from that big one I harvested last year, but those melons were planted by yellow watermelon and orange tendersweets. I was in shock. I don't think you are being negative. Everything is high (especially food, well everything). Thanks for your kind words. I appreciate you.
I started growing watermelon this year and learned a lot from you. Do you recommend using the fruit cradles to keep the bugs off the fruit or just leave them on the ground? Also trying honeydews and cantaloupes.
WOW Mr. Brown, those are some juicy, juicy watermelons!! I have to get some of that Boogie compost tea for next year!! Maybe, that will help me!! Thanks for another great video!! Enjoy those watermelons!!! 🤗🍉

HELLO Shimett, yes, the yellow watermelons are so sweet. I have visited Jamaica twice. It's so nice there. I love the water color, just amazing. Thanks for watching and commenting.
HEY Daniel, a lemon drop! I have to look that up. Some just said seeds were engineers in Oklahoma (the Crimson Sweets). It could be but I had those Crimson Sweets for a while and never had a melon like that. I planted Crimson Sweets around yellow watermelon and orange tendersweets last year. Thanks for watching and for your opinion. I'm saving those seeds to see if it does it again.
HEY Robert!!! I have grown the yellow melons. I have never seen the ones like that. I wonder if they make a melon to look like that, and I bought seeds somehow.
I am happy and grateful for you. I am excited for you. Thank you for the tips. I am in excited to clip the vines off my few watermelon. I would be so happy and grateful if you would just cut that watermelon up and stored in a glass bowl in the fridge. Not the foil 😅
HELLO Ethelene, Thanks. I appreciate it. I'm glad you are excited to try clipping the vines. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣, I needed that laugh. Thanks!!! See my way. I don't have to waste a bowl. The watermelon is already the bowl. You have something against foil,🤣🤣. It's quicker my way. Thanks for watching, commenting, and making me laugh
HEY Tawana!!! I think it's good if you don't have pollinates around or if you want to make sure your plants get pollinated. I'll have to right it down as a possible video. Thanks
Get yourself a refractometer for less than a Jackson for a new toy. Get one that measures up to 30 or 32 brix but no higher, they describe them as for fruit, beer and/or wine. You could start brewing with one of those if you want. Yellow and White are the ancient/oldest forms of watermelon. Red is the newest. Red is bitter as a chemical so it can make a sweet melon seem a bit less sweet so Yellows can taste sweeter as they have no bitter reds in them to mute the sweet. You can even test you Cantaloupe as well with the refractometer. A typical watermelon will be 9-11 brix with the sweetest being over 12.
HELLO PD, I will look for one on Amazon. So, one else suggested that. I did not know what it was. Yes, I love the yellow watermelon. Thanks for the info.
@@GrowSomethingTasty the algorithm police don’t like me posting direct figures but I’ve seen them for four Washington’s back on a Jackson as the lowest. Some go high on their Brix scale like into the 50s or 70s or higher. No good as trying to read a 9 on a 90 scale is much harder than a 9 on a 32 scale. On a 90 scale you’d be squinting your eye and going well that could be a 9 or 10 or maybe almost 11. On a 32 you’d be like oh that’s looking about a 9 1/2. I had a 32 with Automatic Temperature Compensation and used it all the time, you just got to clean the glass between samples so you don’t leave a lot of sugar residue from a prior test to mix with a new sample.
So far my biggest sugar baby and early moon bean are at 1.2kg in my containers the growth on each vine is very tiny so is the stem. The one on my field has 2 baby watermelon fertilized but they are not swelling but the vines are throwing suckers everywhere and the stems are huge and so are the flowers. I have around 70 days left before my first frost and im hoping to get 2 watermelon per poant out of those two plants in the field. But at this rate i doubt ima get any
Cut the suckers and the end of the stems off right above where the water melon is growing out of the vine . This puts energy back into the watermelon. Also when growing use a calcium nitrate as a side dressing a few times while growing this helps the root system and makes your watermelon sweeter according to Hoss tools his videos show this. Not to turn the attention to Hoss because Brown has excellent suggestions.
HEY, @Supreme greenlawncareLLC!!! I'm glad you liked the video. It's great that you are growing watermelons for the first time. If you have questions, I'm here. I will help if I can.
Hello Bear from. California. I love like your show. I'm growing Carolina Cross watermelon's all tho the plants my plants are in the early stages. Enjoy your Sommer. Brad C.
hi Bear, WOW, how's growing going, How are you harvesting now, so early? look awesome. was it fully ripened, not a thick rind and the hspindle browned? Are you cutting off side shoots from the vine? slushee popsicle is good treat idea, thanks
HELLO Jca, it's going. I have plants dying off because of the heat. It's not early for me, kind of late. I get some melons in july, but i started later because of the weather. Yeah, it's fully ripe. It was crossed pollinated. I cut side shoots off for some. The one that was damaged by the pest I left to get more flowers. Thanks, watching and commenting. When do you harvest melons?
@@GrowSomethingTasty melons here, are not close but growing. maybe september, my guess. I started seed march. i'm in ma, 8 mi from nh borderr near lowell and concord. did'nt you make that homemade tea dressing to use on the root feeding last yr? where do you start trimming side shoot. have you ever had to use bonide copper fungacide for cucumber or anything. It's supposed to be safe when used correctly to protect the bees and plants
I collect seeds from this watermelon vendor and looking to grow my own but now sure what kind of watermelon it’s is or time period . Last harvest they were very small and not good but were using a different method this season! Ant tips ?
HEY, Amaris!!!! If you don't know the varieties, do you know if they grow to be small melons? When you plant them, do you feed them nitrogen in the beginning? Have you seen my video How to Care for Melons during the growing season? In that video, I show how I get my melons larger by pruning. As for the taste, when it's almost time to harvest, the melons cut back on watering. This will make the sugars in the melons more concentrated, or it will be sweeter. I use compost tea as well to feed the plant to help with nutrients to increase the size.
@GrowSomethingTasty thanks, I've tried the last two or three years and they never seem to fully develop, so I'm thinking I'll try to plant them by there self or just other melons.
THANKS FOR SHARING YOUR GARDENING TECHNIQUES!!!🍉🍉🍉 AND JUST LIKE YOU WERE... I'M FLABBERGASTED TOO AT THE MIXED COLOR WATERMELON 🍉🍉🍉 I THINK 🤔 YOU MAYBE RIGHT ABOUT THE CROSS POLLINATION!!! BUT COOL 😎👍🏽 NEVERTHELESS!!!🤓👍🏽🙋🏽🔥🙏🏽👑✝️📖🔥🕊️
HEY, Mike!!! I have never seen them. In my mind, I say yuck, but they may taste good. My taste buds are different. There are things I have never ate just by looking at it.
@@GrowSomethingTasty i only got 1 melon to about the size of a shotput ball. Tasted like sweet water i guess, im giving one more chance to them just for the weirdness of eating a white watermelon😄. You only feed with compost tea?
@mikeymccarroll LOL. Yes, I mostly compost tea. I feed them with fish fertilizer early until they start setting fruit for nitrogen. This year, side dress the plants with tomato tone.
HEY FISHERMAN!!! I'm trying to get things in the ground. I got some new pest issues. My grow rack is wild. I put some melon plants out yesterday! How about you?
@@GrowSomethingTastynot bad. Still slow going here in New England. Onions in the ground , getting ready for potatoes in about a week or two. Melons on the rack just started a couple days ago. Hopping I will have a bumper crop.
HELLO, rowanstec, no, I don't have fishing footage. When I'm I don't camera like a go pro. The only time I did that was when I fished with Brian Latimer. Hopefully, I'll make the cut, and that will be a highlight.
HELLO ThelegendGame1, when it comes to watering, it depends on your climate. This is why it's hard to tell someone how they should water. In my growing experience, I have never watered my melons every day. When I did not have a woodchip garden, I watered twice a week in my climate. Do you think water every day will increase pollination rates?
@ThelegendGame1 o wow, well, you will definitely have to water more than me. Wow, I heard about your weather. I never grown in that, so that's new for me.
I harvested our 1st and largest sugar baby and it was still white inside 😢... the tendril was brown and dried out, and it had a Yellow belly. Not sure what I did wrong with this one.
IMO .. U did nothing wrong .. seeds no longer natural .. and there’s relentless sky spaying chemicals 🥀💨💨💨💨💨✈️ Groengineering going on big time globally .. good quality Heirloom seeds will be like gold in future ,) $
HEY MarlonVell, I think you did everything right. That's how a lot of people do it. I would now look at how long the watermelon is supposed to take to be done on the seed packet. Just to give you an idea how long it takes and look at the tendrils and bell. That first melon, for some reason, I noticed the tendril dried early, so I lifted it a little longer. I really do know what to tell. Maybe it was a rare occurrence. Do you remember around when you planted them? So go by same signs and count the days. It's an estimate.
@@GrowSomethingTasty Hi. You’re welcome. It sure did look good. I’ve never seen one like it. Up here we only get the red and yellow ones. We never know the variety. I’ve never heard of any of the names I’ve been hearing since following all the gardeners online. 🤗
Hey Bear quick question, is it normal for watermelons to get tiny bumps, almost like little pimples on them? They’re only on the bottom by the ground spot. There’s no fungal problem or low nutrient problem, I just can’t seem to find any info on it and was wondering if you’ve had anything similar happen to your melons.
Hey Ty, if it's just a rough patch because it was on the ground, it should be fine. I don't recall seeing that on my watermelons, but I have bumpy skin on my honeydew melons. Actually, I'm about to drop that video in a few minutes. You can see the bumpy patch. Let me know if it's something like that. If it's not fungus, I would not worry.
@@GrowSomethingTasty yea they’re like tiny little pimples where the melon touches the ground. The melons are still growing good and will be ready to harvest soon. I just haven’t had much luck growing outdoors and can’t find anything online about what could cause this. The honeydew video was great, thanks for all the helpful tips that you share 👍🏼
@@GrowSomethingTasty Hey Bear just wanted to give you an update; after following all of your videos and tips, I picked my first two watermelons yesterday and they were both perfect 👍🏼 After years of failed attempts I finally grew melons outside successfully and I have plenty more on the vine that will be getting picked soon. Thank you for all your helpful tips and I’m already planning to do a bigger and better watermelon plot next season.
@ty_845 Hey Ty, that is awesome. I'm glad you were able to grow watermelons successful for the first time. You are going to make a bigger plot for melons, I like that. I'm going to do a video in a week or two about my new watermelon plot for next year. Great job, Ty!!
HEY Eric!!! I leave one melon per vine because it takes a lot of nutrients and energy to grow the melons. I left more than one on a vine before and I did not get any size to them. Some people tell me they can get nice-sized melons by leaving them on the same vine, I am not that good.
Hey Bear, that mixed water ice watermelon looks very beautiful and yummy. I know U and yo wifey tore that beautiful weird melon up. I want some right now. My wonderberry watermelons aren't ready yet cause um in zone 7b....😂
November but since our atmosphere is so messy I don't know anymore. It has always been snowing feet and icy here in Philly for last 52 yrs. I've been alive but now none of that has happened here...so 😔
I think that specific watermelon is a cross polinated between one of ur yellow watermelons and red from last year if that is what you sowed. I doubt the seeds will be viable tho. Hybrids ussualy dont make true seeds. As long as it tasted good but you can experiement next year
I think it is as well. I hope I have another one like that. It is good. I wish those seeds would grow. I'm thinking about planting 3 or 4 seeds right now to see if they come up.
@@GrowSomethingTasty Don't be discouraged by that fact at all. Take your new hybrid seeds and plant them next year right next to a different variety of watermelon that will act as the pollinator for your hybrid seeds (they likely need a pollinator). If the plant grows melons you will have an interesting experiment on your hands, especially if you repeat the process the following year.
HEY, Shukura!!!! I hope I can get some melons this year. I'm struggling with a new issue for me. I might do a bonus video this weekend about it. Oh, the pain!!! HEY, I'm do my best though.

@@GrowSomethingTasty put a motion detector out there and get that 12 gauge!! I hope we get this video. Good luck.
Hello Bear from. California. I love like your show. I'm growing Carolina Cross watermelon's all tho the plants my plants are in the early stages. Enjoy your Sommer. Brad C.
HEY, Brad!!! I'm glad to hear you love the channel. You are growing giants!!! Let me know how they grow. Thanks, I hope you enjoy your summer as well.
hi Bear, WOW, how's growing going, How are you harvesting now, so early? look awesome. was it fully ripened, not a thick rind and the hspindle browned?
This is amazing💯 new subscriber thanks for all the knowledge
HELLO F, AWESOME!!!! Thanks for watching and subscribing. I really appreciate it..
✊🏿 looks good. Hopefully, I have better luck with mine next year!
HELLO Lawrence, I hope you will have better luck next year. What happened to them? Thanks for watching and commenting.
@GrowSomethingTasty thanks, I've tried the last two or three years and they never seem to fully develop, so I'm thinking I'll try to plant them by there self or just other melons.
One way they say you can tell is when the melons loose their shine for a more dull tent.
I heard people talk about the dull tent.
@@GrowSomethingTasty I saw it on utube.
Popsicle Watermelon... 🍉
HEY Ladonna!!!!! I like that name.
Will cross with cucumber as well
HELLO Marina, yes, I just talked to someone and said the same thing. Their watermelon crossed with cucumbers. I don't want that.
❤
Thanks, florafrancois.
HEY Lisa!!!! You are welcome. I share it all. That melon was so good, wow. Thanks for watching and commenting. I really appreciate it.
Hi Bear, have ever messed around with those white fleshed watermelons that bakercreek sells? Were able to get any size on them?
Hope u have started planting it by now
HEY FISHERMAN!!!
Nice harvest
HELLO kether800, thanks.
New to channel very good information
HEY Belinda!!! Welcome to the channel and I'm glad you like the information
Thankyou bro got it!!!
NO problem, bro, cool!
That dry tendril, me and my dad, calls that a pigtail, and that's a true sign its ready
HEY Gary!!! Cool. That pigtail helps me for sure.
Fishing highlights? 🎣
HELLO, rowanstec, no, I don't have fishing footage. When I'm I don't camera like a go pro. The only time I did that was when I fished with Brian Latimer. Hopefully, I'll make the cut, and that will be a highlight.
yes you will need a truck!!! I would name that watermelon marblelous melon, because it looks marbled,😋
Marblelous melon sounds good. It was so tasty. I want more😊
Maybe it's from cross Polina too with your different melon's 😊
HEY Angela!!!! Yes, you are probably right. Thanks for commenting and watching. I appreciate it.
So do I cut the vine once I see a watermelon growing and do I cut the suckers before I see a watermelon? Thank you
HEY Diane!!! Yes wait until you see the melon then prune the vine. You can cut the sucker off before seeing the watermelon.
@@GrowSomethingTasty thank you
So I hand polinate my watermelon, and I usually water my plants in 3 days, so should I water it every day more water or,
HELLO ThelegendGame1, when it comes to watering, it depends on your climate. This is why it's hard to tell someone how they should water. In my growing experience, I have never watered my melons every day. When I did not have a woodchip garden, I watered twice a week in my climate. Do you think water every day will increase pollination rates?
@@GrowSomethingTasty Im in texas so we have hot climate its summer on us.
IMO .. U did nothing wrong .. seeds no longer natural .. and there’s relentless sky spaying chemicals
🥀💨💨💨💨💨✈️
Groengineering going on big time globally ..
good quality Heirloom seeds will be like gold in future ,) $
HEY MarlonVell, I think you did everything right. That's how a lot of people do it. I would now look at how long the watermelon is supposed to take to be done on the seed packet. Just to give you an idea how long it takes and look at the tendrils and bell. That first melon, for some reason, I noticed the tendril dried early, so I lifted it a little longer. I really do know what to tell. Maybe it was a rare occurrence. Do you remember around when you planted them? So go by same signs and count the days. It's an estimate.
Same thing happened to us tonight ☹️
@@KawakebAstra definitely true!
@@GrowSomethingTasty we planted them on May 5th or 6th. I knew for sure that it was ready to harvest but hopefully my others do better.
Good stuff, kuddos,
Thanks, Glynn!!! I'm glad you liked the video.
I've had watermelon that was yellow on the inside like that.
You should call it Honey Blush…if in fact it’s never been a variety before.
HELLO Ms.Texas73, thanks for the suggestion. I bet someone has done that before. I hope I get more it was good.
@@GrowSomethingTasty Hi. You’re welcome. It sure did look good. I’ve never seen one like it. Up here we only get the red and yellow ones. We never know the variety. I’ve never heard of any of the names I’ve been hearing since following all the gardeners online. 🤗
Nice melon
HEY Theo, thanks.
@@GrowSomethingTasty u welcome bear
Yes they r verry sweet bro
Yes, you are right. They are great.
Can you have more than one more watermelon on a vine? I saw one video saying that you take the nutrients off
HEY Eric!!! I leave one melon per vine because it takes a lot of nutrients and energy to grow the melons. I left more than one on a vine before and I did not get any size to them. Some people tell me they can get nice-sized melons by leaving them on the same vine, I am not that good.
I have lorned a lot from your watermelon program
I am glad that you learned a lot. Thanks for watching.
Hey Bear, that mixed water ice watermelon looks very beautiful and yummy. I know U and yo wifey tore that beautiful weird melon up. I want some right now. My wonderberry watermelons aren't ready yet cause um in zone 7b....😂
HELLO Angeline, yes, it looks good. Yes, we did eat it. Our kids tore it up big time. What month is your expected 1st frost?
Send me some that looks good and cool
HEY, Shukura!!!! I hope I can get some melons this year. I'm struggling with a new issue for me. I might do a bonus video this weekend about it. Oh, the pain!!! HEY, I'm do my best though.
I like it keep the name Watermelon popsicle
HELLO L BpGardening, alright sounds good. Thanks for watching and commenting.
You got any of those seeds still?
HEY Keith. Yeah I do. I wonder if those melons will produce the same type of melon. I don't know about that. I did not plant many.
@@GrowSomethingTasty Hey! I’m not sure about watermelon but usually with other fruits, you would have some just like it and some not. Probably a 50/50 🤷🏾♂️. Great work bro
How long can you grow watermelon what is the cutoff month
HELLO William, I would not start any now because fall is around the corner. Normally, it needs around 100 days to mature.
Those tell tale 4" clip ons ,😉😂😎
HEY Glynn!!! 🤣
Its good bro
Thanks, bro. I am glad you like it.
They are yellow watermelon my friend grows them all the time, they are not new .😂😂😂😂❤❤
Lol!! I have grown yellow watermelons. I just never seen yellow and pink in a melon like that. Someone said that they modified some Crimson Sweets to do that. I did not know I bought seeds like that. I almost did not eat it, but they were good.
Looks like the watermelon and some Pawpaw had a baby..Pawmelon😝😝
HEY, Ibeebeatz!!! 🤣🤣 Pawmelon
This is my first year growing watermelons, wish me luck 😂😂
Roberta, I hope you get the best watermelons to grow. Let me know how it goes. I know you got this.

HEY Savage!!! Thanks, I appreciate it.
A gou plant a lot of that type
Cool
I think a yellow watermelon seed got into the mix of seeds . Maybe your wife or kids played a trick lol 😂
Yeah, I planted yellow watermelons, orange tendersweets, and Crimson Sweets all together last year
South Florida?
HELLO, anselshelly, South Carolina, thanks for watching.
That’s what you call second growth
HEY flowers Curtis. Thanks
Next time, look drak yellow spot land make where watermelon been sitting from day 1
HELLO @love42032, thanks for watching and commenting. I appreciate it.
You need to name it
HEY John, I might better hold off on that because a subscriber said they saw one like mine today at the farmers market. I did not buy seeds this year, I used what I had. So I'm still don't know what happen.
It looks like an orange krush watermelon.
HEY, Ms. Georgia Peachnut, thanks. I never saw that melon before. I planted Crimson Sweets around yellow watermelons and orange tendersweets. I hope I have more like that, it's something good.
Definitely looks cross pollinated.
HELLO Kre8iviT27, I was thinking that. I wonder if the seeds will grow one like this next season. Thanks for your opinion.
That’s a yellow watermelon. They are popular in the South
HEY Raquel!!! Thanks. I grew some yellow ones, but I never saw a melon with the yellow and pink swirls in it.
@@GrowSomethingTasty it was beautiful 😍 keep those seeds
It got seeds thats all that matters
You are right!!!
I need four videos
HEY Kristen!!! What 4 videos?
Are seedless watermelon bad for humans?
HEY, simplyhilda!!! I never really thought about it. I eat them and nothing happens to me. So I think they are fine for me.
