Those giants used to be the watermelon of choice 20 yrs. ago here where I live in the south. Now all you can find is the round small ones & maybe a mid sized one even at the farmer's market. Some of the new ones are pretty tasty if you catch them right,, but I do wish we still had the choice of getting a really large striper when you want it. Ha,, regardless,, it's on my shopping list to grab one next time I hit the store. I always cave to the power of suggestion & that 55 pounder did the trick!

Actually, that only one of 3 methods to determine melon ripeness. The other two are: 2) a pale yellow underbelly 3) a hollow sound when thumped in the center (this one requires practice) Keep in mind that melons in the market don't come with tendrils.
Try this one for number four. First set melon up and down just like it grew in the field place the middle digit of your middle finger over the blossom end now press in with the tip of your middle finger. That's all I want for Christmas. If I can get just a single melon to grow to harvest I would be happy.
Which variety it is this Watermelon
I grew up in a small little town called Indiantown, Florida. The Beaches grew some of the finest big watermelons 🍉 I’ve ever seen or ate the hearts out of. You did a great job!
Thank you!
What art your steps or preparations for growing. I'd like to try. NOT 400 THO! Think I'll start with 5 or 8 plants. Please get back to me.
All I do it work/till the soil really well, as deep as I can, and put some general purpose fertilizer like triple 16 down at the rate on the package. Then you are ready to plant as long as weather is good.
Nice melons! Plenty of those things grown in GA. They're top of the line but I'll take a Crimson myself if they're available. Long as they have seeds they're all good........
Have you ever grown Carolina Cross?
I ask because we tried one time but the melons popped off the vine everytime while still green not one ripe melon from them.
Beautiful water melon. Good work . From Saipan CMNI near Guam. Best harvest the pound is amazing. Thank you sharing.
Here in West Ky. the tendril's dried up a month before the Jubilee melons were ready. I had to wait until they got bumpy skin and a yellow belly. They were perfect in taste and sweetness.
This is really lovely. I'm realizing that this is two years ago is that's why I can't even ask you for a piece . I have learned how to know when watermelons are ready for reaping. Thanks for info.
Please what is the variety of this watermelon??
