If you're suggesting that Dr. Ingo Titze does not have the credentials necessary to assess or comment on what was occurring during these tests, I would highly reconsider researching who he is.
I have to say as someone who has been listening to this kind of music for 20+ years and being told by friends, family or anyone who finds out I listen to this music say "oh the screamers? There is no talent. It's just noise." Seeing people taking the time, energy and resources to put science behind primal vocals. Yes I'm using that now lol. It brought me so much joy I was tearing up. I can't wait for this to be in a written research document. This is so great. I hope you convince more vocalists to take part in this research like Dani Filth, Alex Terrible, Kyle from Brand of Sacrifice and Bryan Garris from Knocked Loose. Angela Gossow wrote theory articles about how she did her growls but it musty focused on how she used her diaphragm. So it is exciting that we are doing the theory about how to us your vocal chords, tongue and head space added on to how we know how to use breath control, posture and diaphragm. I'm so excited for this. Like I said I have been listening to this type of music for 20+ years and it makes me so happy that science is now backing what my ears and heart have been hearing.
Huge respect to Will Ramos for volunteering and making himself available for research. Really taking a big one for the team and helping furthering the science on vocal function. So a sincere thanks to you mr Ramos🙏. You rock 😎🤘... Obviously! 😆👍
1. This was absolutely amazing! 2. I am not a vocalist, but have a neurological disorder that has caused me to lose my speech. I wish I had the ability to do this for science. 3. I'm 38 and lost my ability to speak 4 years ago........I won't lie I teared up in the end when Will said, "You only have one voice, once you lose it it's gone." 4. Will and Elizabeth was the collab we didn't know we needed!
@@rnbsteenstar I'm happy to answer questions about it. It's called Autoimmune Encephalitis, but because of my loss of speech and other functions my doctors also believe that I have Lambert-Eaton Myasthenic Syndrome
@@rnbsteenstar There is some knowledge out there but not a ton. I am hopeful that science will gain a better understanding after learning more about long covid because the mechanism of long covid and the type of Autoimmune Encephalitis I have are very similar. As of right now it is mostly chalked up to bad luck and genetics. The plus side is that they don't necessarily have to have an extremely thorough understanding of what causes it in order to treat it. I have been receiving regular treatments for the past year and a half and it has improved my quality of life significantly and I am extremely grateful for that!
I think all the doctors, Elizabeth, and Kirk should now go to a Lorna Shore concert together and film their reactions. I would love to see them rock out for science!
I started to listen Lorna Shore like half a year from now, and still the only deathcore band that I'm listening to...but I listen to them almost every day. I just love Will's vocals and the melody of the songs.
Will subjecting himself to needles while being filmed FOR SCIENCE is the MOST METAL THING EVER!! 🤘🏻🔥 What a fascinating study! Will has given us all such a gift in offering up his unique talents for study. Allowing vocal experts in-depth insight into his distinctive vocal techniques in this extreme way will permit so many people to learn from him for years to come. Watching this actually made me uncomfortable for Will - I didn’t realize he would have pain with the needles in his muscles. I’m truly in awe of his ability to work through that and make the vocalizations anyway. Thank you, Elizabeth, for recognizing the interest in this to the public and making this video available to all of us, that we might learn from this valuable research and also be entertained by this hilarious man!
Technically he is more metal than almost all vocalist. How many vocalist have actual metal in their vocal muscles when they scream. Will Ramos does!!! 😝
I mean, Will's been all-in on the science since he crossed paths with Elizabeth. I really hope they've been able to consistently drag others into the pipeline for it. As amazing as the data Will's contributed has been, there's a *lot* to be learned from comparing and contrasting with others. If the only example of a building you ever saw was the leaning tower of Pisa, you might never realize that it was an anomaly. With Will being the baseline, more data's needed to find out if his techniques/methods/ability are consistent examples or anomalies. His eagerness to help find that out, and just general tendency to be an awesome person *are* a bit of an anomaly themselves, so it's hard to tell.
As a PhD student in Experimental Medicine and a metalhead, this is THE BEST VIDEO EVER! It was so amazing and interesting, you made history! Metal AF! Thank you for sharing all this, from a scientific point of view it is extremely interesting and my mind right now is literally exploding! Will you really are a unicorn and Elizabeth you are metal af! 🤘❤ Love from Italy!
This will go down in history as the most extensive deep dive into screams. Thanks for making our passion more than just a bunch of outcasts making noise. You all are awesome. Thank you!
This research is actually invaluable. Understanding the vocal tract to the degree of depth that the data from these tests have provided could help so many people. This could help vocalists mitigate the risk of hurting themselves through scientifically backed coaching, provide insight for more advanced vocal reconstructive surgeries for people with vocal cord disorders, and possibly even be a stepping stone towards vocal modification surgeries that allow people to change aspects of their vocal range in the distant future.
Total coincidence, and a great one at that. We're presenting the first manuscript written off the data from these tests today (June 1st) and his birthday was the Friday before that presentation - so it all aligned!
Funny someone mentioned that, Will Ramos was born May 31st, 1994 I actually was born on June 1st, 1994 Easily my favorite Deathcore vocalist + his cleans in singing is so beautiful. Love the content, it was really fun & learning this. Kinda like a modern version of a Bill Nye the Science Guy episode!
Will is a freaking legend, period. Being willing to go through these uncomfortable procedures, for science, is soooo freaking cool ! You're both legends, now !
Will is such a trooper. He has gone above and beyond what, I believe, most people, let alone performing artists, would go through for the sake of science.
His vocals in the credits are insane. He must have gone through just about every scream he has. I've been listening to metal for 25 years and that is probably the most metal thing I've ever heard.
Can I recommend The Pain Remains Trilogy as a good starting point. There's a significant argument for To The Hellfire, and it wouldn't be a bad place to start, but The Pain Remains is an emotional masterpiece.
I love Will and Lorna Shore. As a metal head I’m so glad metal vocalists are getting the credit they deserve. This kind of stuff takes talent and I love that Will is getting recognized for that and putting metal vocalists on the map. Happy birthday Will!
This is like a full on documentary! Fantastic work. Thank you so much for taking all of us on this journey, and thanks to Will for going through this FOR SCIENCE. I was definitely cringing when he was so clearly uncomfortable with the needles in his neck. Kudos. This was so interesting!
This is why I support this channel via Patreon. I've seen no other creator put so much into his/her/their channel and passions. Will is a real trouper- going into a myriad of tests like this. I am serious when I think this should get on PBS nationwide. Where do I start to make it happen? Incredibly well done and fascinating as can be. Bravo to ALL who were a part of this production. Well worth it.
I rewatched this again for the first time in a while and noticed Will's hat in the vocal booth during the "acoustic analysis" section. It says, "Cat Dad". As if there weren't enough reasons to love this guy already. Now I want to know about his cats.
He for sure loves his cats. He did an interview with nic nocturnal and says the first thing he does in the morning is Pat his cats for like half an hour aha, Will is the best dude
This was beyond groundbreaking. I am so speechless and I can’t wait to see the data and the findings that come from it. Thank you so much for doing this.
Hi Elizabeth! Have you ever considered a tea time interview with Melissa Cross? She has worked with many different well known vocalist from the metal scene. Also she is the one who originally made up the terms "fry" and "false cord screaming" so it would be really interesting.
That is a brilliant idea for what could be a brilliant conversation. Melissa Cross has made so many contributions to the metal scene, it would be wonderful to see her shared with such an interested audience!
@NumaNoom149 I totally understand it, but at the moment, I found it humorous. If I were him, I would be concerned if there were a risk, it could do some nerve or muscle dammage and change the voice.

FANTASTIC sequel. This is awesome to be witnessing. Thank you so much to all involved. Hope to see more research and science, and the papers that come out of this.
I think vocal pedagogy's focus on only the function of the folds themselves has always been very very short-sighted. The folds don't make you sound like you, they aren't the be-all-end-all, and these videos are actually breaking people's common assumptions finally. I love this so much
Its been known for a while that the false folds, arytenoids, areyeppiglottic folds and other cartilage and tissues affect your sound and are used in screams
Yes @KornyRock, but very little research has been done on those structures. Tools and instrumentation is now becoming sufficient enough to start doing this type of research, but getting highly qualified individuals like Will has been very difficult.
@TheCharismaticVoice I'd love to see this with more extreme vocalists, there's a lot of people with a very interesting sound, it would be interesting to see your take on how the actual mechanisms of each scream differs from what you've seen here.
I agree 100%. The next phase which we'll reveal in the next couple months will be with 5-10 more artists, some of which do vocalizations similar to Will, and some that do very different distortions. We want a full catalogue across the board.

I can't believe what I just watched. This was the most incredible project I've seen in a UA-cam video. The fact that the extraordinary talents of a metal singer were not only acknowledged but also cherished to the point of wanting to study them was already light years ahead of anything I would've expected as this type of music and singing are usually not valued at all outside of their fanbase. Then, on top of that, some remarkable science was done with it and I learned SO MUCH. Can't thank everyone involved enough. Will is a wild talent. This has blown my mind.

Top picks for me would be Alex Terrible, Tom Barber, Jonny Davy from Job For A Cowboy, and Vicky Psarakis
@@Mandingy24 I couldn't agree more. Phil Bozeman from Whitechapel too. Chaney from Entheos. Hell yeah.
3. I'm 38 and lost my ability to speak 4 years ago........I won't lie I teared up in the end when Will said, "You only have one voice, once you lose it it's gone."
4. Will and Elizabeth was the collab we didn't know we needed!
Oh my lord! I am sorry to hear that. What is the name of the disorder if that is not too much?
Why no heart here?
@@rnbsteenstar I'm happy to answer questions about it. It's called Autoimmune Encephalitis, but because of my loss of speech and other functions my doctors also believe that I have Lambert-Eaton Myasthenic Syndrome
@@Panda_Biscuits OH my good God! Is there any knowledge out there about what causes those horrible things?
@@rnbsteenstar There is some knowledge out there but not a ton. I am hopeful that science will gain a better understanding after learning more about long covid because the mechanism of long covid and the type of Autoimmune Encephalitis I have are very similar. As of right now it is mostly chalked up to bad luck and genetics. The plus side is that they don't necessarily have to have an extremely thorough understanding of what causes it in order to treat it. I have been receiving regular treatments for the past year and a half and it has improved my quality of life significantly and I am extremely grateful for that!
That MRI scan would make a great album cover
I think all the doctors, Elizabeth, and Kirk should now go to a Lorna Shore concert together and film their reactions. I would love to see them rock out for science!
I'd be totally down for that!
"... Can you feel it? These pins and needles..."
Into the Hellfire lyrics manifested this 😅
"Primal Vocalization" is the most metal thing I've ever heard.
I can just imagine Will after the procedure: “You know what these needles look sick, leave them in”
lol i even read that in Wills voice!!! lol🤣🤣
or cool tattoo of the wires :)
As both a death metal vocalist and a neurophysiologist, this is pure gold! Incredible!
His music is not something i typically listen to, but the talent required and the dedication needed to allow the science to be done impresses me.
I started to listen Lorna Shore like half a year from now, and still the only deathcore band that I'm listening to...but I listen to them almost every day. I just love Will's vocals and the melody of the songs.

@@Achrila I remembered this morning I might wrote the wrong genre, thank you! I'll edit it. Actually I listen a lot of metalcore. :)
This is so fucking sick dude.
edit: the part with the needles was horrific but also fascinating. Huge props to Will for going through it for SCIENCE.
Will subjecting himself to needles while being filmed FOR SCIENCE is the MOST METAL THING EVER!! 🤘🏻🔥
What a fascinating study!
“Will’s response is: ‘I don’t know if I can do that, but I’ll try.’ And he does it to perfection!”
What an awesome and humble dude.
Can you imagine every tea time interview ending with, "can I stick needles in your throat?" and now we've finally got the one that said yes?
About that. I have not seen a tea time video for a while. Is there some works in the making?
This continuous collaboration with Will is one of the best crossovers in the history of UA-cam.
Love from Italy!
This should be on PBS as a NOVA special. Amazing work from everyone - thank you so much for taking us on this journey!
Agreed
This will go down in history as the most extensive deep dive into screams.
Thanks for making our passion more than just a bunch of outcasts making noise.
You all are awesome. Thank you!
I hope not!
I hope this is only the start of a new wave of science. 😊
This video came out on Will's 30th birthday is probably not a coincidence. What a legend!
Total coincidence, and a great one at that. We're presenting the first manuscript written off the data from these tests today (June 1st) and his birthday was the Friday before that presentation - so it all aligned!
Funny someone mentioned that, Will Ramos was born May 31st, 1994
I actually was born on June 1st, 1994
Easily my favorite Deathcore vocalist + his cleans in singing is so beautiful. Love the content, it was really fun & learning this. Kinda like a modern version of a Bill Nye the Science Guy episode!
Will is a freaking legend, period. Being willing to go through these uncomfortable procedures, for science, is soooo freaking cool ! You're both legends, now !
I love that you are besties with Will Ramos now.

@@TheCharismaticVoice WHAT!?
Will is such a trooper. He has gone above and beyond what, I believe, most people, let alone performing artists, would go through for the sake of science.
How to make every person go through the credits: Will doing what he does best.
Our video editors spent a little time on those credits. I'm glad that time didn't go to waste!
His vocals in the credits are insane. He must have gone through just about every scream he has. I've been listening to metal for 25 years and that is probably the most metal thing I've ever heard.
I can never not listen to a chelsea grin song...please try and do a tom barber vocal analysis
This was fr the glaced premium über-cherry on top!
Will. You made history brother. For all us fellow screamer vocalist out there. I appreciate you
It’s so metal of him to let y’all do this to him! I’m a 90s metalhead but I’ll have to check this dude out!!! 🤘🤘🤘
He's so fawking talented.
Kudos. This was so interesting!
it is definitely a documentary and it deserves prizes
Thank you, Manon!!!
Will singing Sleep Token even with a camera down his throat is hilarious.
Thank you, Andrew. Truly. Your support is what makes things like this happen!

Happy birthday to this incredible man and vocalist Will Ramos, and thank you soo much for this video Elizabeth!
Melissa Cross has made so many contributions to the metal scene, it would be wonderful to see her shared with such an interested audience!
so amazing idea. i hope it will be happenin' 🙏🙏🙏 fingers crossed
I bought the zen of screaming by Melissa Cross it was interesting but I never practiced. Would love to see her involved.
LOL, "I was worried about the needles," said the man with an incredible number of tatoos😂
Tattoos are so much more different, plus they don’t go as deep. I’m not a fan of needles either, but a tattoo is a totally different experience.
@NumaNoom149 I totally understand it, but at the moment, I found it humorous. If I were him, I would be concerned if there were a risk, it could do some nerve or muscle dammage and change the voice.
Some haters love to spit on reaction channels without understanding what these channels bring to us.
Again, Elizabeth is the proof that we can learn a lot about music, and how sounds are produced by humans !
Thanks for all of theses interviews, researches, and explanations Elizabeth !
Elizabeth's channel is the first reaction channel that I started to follow, she can explain stuff very well.
@attila0323 So far I have only found 2 that I like. Elizabeth's, and Kardavox Academy's

@@TheCharismaticVoicethank you for this project, that's wonderful news.
Will is definitely a trooper. I don’t think the majority of vocalists would do this. He’s such a good dude.

It tells me so much about Will when he are so interested in finding out and learning more about his voice. I really just hope you guys don’t push it to far so he get injured and somethings changes in his throat. We can not afford that!
However, the last video you made going down the throat so we all could learn how his voice and sounds is being created was in my head award winning. I have no idea how many people I sent that video to. So I am really looking forward to this one. My birthday is on saturday so I see this video coming up as your birthday present to me.
