Pipes of glory. Most sing what they think they can. Linda Ronstadt sang what she wanted. Always surrounded by devoted musicians. Deeply beloved in a dirty rotten business. Rocking or crooning the best Live vocals this side of the moon.
Linda Ronstadt was the dominant solo female artist of the 70s. She was mostly on the rock charts, but she could cross genres as easily as most people cross their living room. She later had a tremendous career singing traditional Spanish songs. She is a legend all over the world, and she's worthy of that adoration. And all of us guys were absolutely in love e with her in the 70s ❤
Brad & Lex, you'll love her "When Will I Be Loved", " Heatwave", and "Different Drum" . She's got bangers too! One of the greatest voices of the 20th century!! Early in her career, some members of The Eagles we're in her backing band!
Can't remember the exact year, but I don't think I was older than 20...so we'll say 1973-74. Anyway, I went to a large outdoor concert in a stadium in Tampa while I was staying with friends in Bradenton. Linda Ronstadt was in the lineup and she and her backup band were awesome. After she did a number of songs, she introduced her band and told the audience they were called the Eagles and had an album of their own coming out. The Eagles played about three or four songs and I was so impressed I told my friends "mark my words, you just saw a future super group". I called that one right!!!
You guys should react to more Linda Ronstadt… "You're No Good", "Silver Threads & Golden Needles", "Desperado", "Love Is a Rose", "That'll Be the Day", "Long Long Time", "Different Drum", "When Will I Be Loved", "Love Has No Pride", "(Love Is Like a) Heat Wave", "It Doesn't Matter Anymore", "Tracks of my Tears" 🎸🤘
I went to the same High School in Tucson Arizona that Linda graduated from, albeit 20 years later. She was still all they talked about. I think you see why. She is as beautiful a person as she is a singer.
Her duet with Aaron Neville "Don't Know Much" is awesome. There's a live version from an awards show that's deeply touching. And please check out Aaron Neville's "Tell It Like It Is" if you haven't already.
Willie Nelson described it this way: “There are two kinds of men in this world, those who have a crush on Linda Ronstadt, and those who have never heard of her” 🤣🎶💕👍
Linda Ronstadt was huge in the 70s. She sold out arenas and stadiums for years, and her voice was powerful enough to fill those venues. She has a huge discography, and she could sing anything. She really rocked out. Look for her live in Atlanta 1976 doing TUMBLING DICE/YOU'RE NO GOOD MEDLEY. She also covered many ballads, Motown hits, and straight up country. She has an album of traditional Mexican songs (her father was Mexican- American), and she performed on Broadway in the operetta " Pirates of Penzance". She is my favorite performer.
Ok, thanks so much for all the unsolicited info/mini-biography on her...I for one will sleep much better tonight knowing all that...and if she is YOUR favorite performer then that is good enough for me and should be for anyone else as well!!!

I absolutely LOVE Linda, more for her force of will in the music industry. She decided she wanted to release an album of classic standards, her label said it would kill her career, It went 5 x platinum world wide. Then she wanted to make a Mariachi album, her label said it would kill her career, It became the biggest selling non-english language album in American history. Then she joined Dolly Parton, and Emmylou Harris for the Trio...and 4 x Platinum. Legend.
Linda Ronstadt is such a lovely person, with a wonderful voice range. You should really watch documentaries about her. She has had the most festinating life. All the bands and music collaborations. Today she is retired, due to a medical condition that took her vocal ability away. But she is still the best in my book, such a gracious person.
Please check out her fabulous celebration of her Mexican heritage- the Mariachi style live show she toured -“ Songs of My Father”. You must watch her in costume with gorgeous dancers and musicians from Mexico. First song: La Choreado- it’ll blow your minds! She can sing any genre.
Linda Ronstadt kept my ears company during my late high school years and through my four years stationed out in the Mojave Desert in SoCal while in the USAF. Wow does she take me back to those days.
This Linda Ronstadt version [1977] of Roy Orbison's [1961] original recording got a reboot from Tony Scott's 2004 movie "Man on Fire' starring Denzel Washington. Hauntingly beautiful and lonely. Perfect for Denzel's character.
Linda is one of the first women for me to "take special notice of" as a youngster, can't say crush since I was just 5 or so; 53 now and still think Linda Ronstadt is incredible beautiful. However I've come know she's a beautiful person with one of the best singing voice ever... Yeah, it's a crush.
*Linda Ronstadt has sung pop, rock, country, folk, old Big Band standards, and classic mariachi and Mexican music, as she is part Hispanic from Tucson. You want vocal gymnastics? Check out "La Charreada!"*
Imo I don't think there is a more versatile singer Than Linda Ronstadt. She had top 5 albums in pop, country and Hispanic. She also recorded American standards and was in an opera on Broadway. The Pirates of Penzance. She absolutely could do it all. Go any direction in her library and you will find great music. Love you 2 keep it up!!
Fun fact, Glenn Frey and Don Henley who are two founding members of the Eagles were her backup band for a while. You can hear a lot of the similarities in the drums and guitar styles with her early music and the Eagles music.
Linda Ronstadt was great musician and singer. She brought a lot of older music to modern pop ears. This is one example Roy Orbison's "Blue Bayou". Doris Troy's "Just One Look", Buddy Holly's " It Doesn't Matter Anymore" & "That'll Be The Day". Betty Everett's 'You're No Good", which was a #1 Pop hit for her, are just some examples. She also did Motown Smokey Robinson's "Tracks of My Tears" and "Ohh Baby Baby". She was the top Rock female artist of the 70s. Only she and Donna Summer could fill the big arena's, like the men back in the 70s. She had 6 top 10 hits on the Pop charts in the decade (behind Summer with 9 (4#1s), Olivia Newton John also had 9 top 10s, Streisand had 7), but like Donna Summer, Linda sold albums and lots of them (in the US market).
She was my teenage celebrity crush. She has received The Kennedy Center Honors, won 12 Grammys, and is a member of both the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Country Music Hall of Fame. She was known as the "queen of Rock " in the early 70s and was the highest paid woman in the music business at that time. She changed the course of contemporary music, as well as the world geopolitical landscape, but that's another story.
That amazing voice carried her all the way to broadway. Not to mention 11 grammys, two country music awards, and an emmy. She also gave a just-starting group called the Eagles their break by having them perform as her backup group until they were ready to fly off to pursue their own legendary careers.
Mesmerizing. The Song was written by Roy Orbison, who performed it too. In 1977, This became is Her Signature Song, and such a BIG Voice Linda has. Her work in Spanish is just as amazing.
Linda was the greatest female rock singer of the 70's. She had hit after hit. She sang many different styles. She started singing Spanish songs her father taught her, moved to country, then became huge singing rock, then 40's standards, then Back to country, and even Broadway music. Linda could sing it all, till Parkinson took her singing voice. I still love you Linda and pray for you.
Linda was a major star in the 70's, and has really become legendary. Check out "Poor Poor Pitiful Me"... written by Warren Zevon, but made a hit by Linda's performance of it.
Linda sings a song in Spanish where one of the lines is "Pobre de mi" (poor me) from the song "Por Un Amor" (For a Love). That voice, pure and powerful.
She is half Mexican/Native American from her dad's side and has lots of Spanish songs too. A legend in the '70s and '80s. Most of hewer music has a country music style, you hear the steel guitars too,
You have just heard the most beautiful female voice on the planet! Linda is legendary and has a forty plus year catalogue spanning multiple genres. There’s nothing she cannot sing. An amazing talent well worth a deep dive down the rabbit hole. 🌺✌️
Linda is GOLDEN! There will never be another more versatile voice. Absolutely the best female singer in my opinion. Please do more of her music. She was instrumental in getting The Eagles together. She was a champion for all females in the business too. I could go on for days about her. She & Aaron Neville did a duet "Don't Know Much" that will blow you away.
you've heard hundreds of singing styles on this channel by now, but rarely will you hear such pure vocal talent as when you listen to Linda Ronstadt sing - such an amazing voice and vocal range and she's used that voice in so many genres of music over the years - much to explore in her catalog!
The studio version of this song is just as stunning as this is. It's my favourite song of hers. She was dubbed The Queen of Rock and Roll for a reason. Her voice can be mesmerising. This never gets old.
If I’m not mistaken, she was the best selling female artist of the 70’s. And she was also instrumental in giving the Eagles their start. You should check out when she sings Silver Threads and Golden Needles with them
Early in her career she had back up musicians Don Henley and Glenn Frye who of course later went on to form the Eagles. Check out some of those older videos. You will be blown away. I saw her in 1976 on her You’re No Good tour.
I can’t believe I just heard you say “I’ve never heard of her.” Wow! You have a wide world of music to experience from the exceptionally talented Ms Linda Rondstadt. I hope you get to it soon. She wasn’t a song writer but the definition of vocal artist. She paved the way for female rockers like Stevie Nicks and Pat Benetar.
The best voice and range of any rock singer. She ruled the 70s. And, she has such an amazing and eclectic catalog. Two suggestions - "Long, Long Time" and "You're no Good".
Linda was popular in the 60s and 70s, during which time she left a mark on modern music that will never be erased. Check out anything she ever did. She has a huge catalog to explore.
Beautiful song from 1977. the original song is by Roy Orbison and was also written by him. Roy Orbison recorded the song in 1961 and released it for the first time in 1963. This singer also has many other good songs
Great one guys. This song was released in 1977. Her and Karen Carpenter were both in that same time period in the seventies. Two legendary female vocalist. ☮️✌️💕👌
Oh my goodness this little powerhouse has one of the most versatile voices out there and such a huge catalog of music to enjoy. And of course, she was gorgeous to boot! Pick any song, you can’t go wrong. She has a documentary called The Sound of My Voice that tells her story and finishes with her singing a trio with her brother and nephew.
She is amazing. I think you would enjoy reacting to Linda Ronstadt & Mariachi Vargas doing La Charreada. The lyrics are in Spanish, but it doesn't matter because the performance is so astounding. It really shows off the power of her voice.
Linda has been around from the late 60s. Started with Stone Poneys. Inducted into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame. One of the greatest singers ever. Noted for doing covers as good as or better than the original. For example Tumbling Dice by the Stones, I knew you When by Billy Joe Royal, Ooo Baby Baby and Tracks of My Tears by Smokey Robinson, Heat Wave by Martha Reeves and more.
By 1977 when this song was at the top of the charts Linda was being called the Queen of Rock, the first female to have that particular honorific since she was the first female to sellout stadiums and arenas. Linda's break out album "Heart Like a Wheel" had 2 songs released on the same day in Nov 1974. They were "You're No Good" (released to pop) and the Hank Williams classic "I Cant Help It (If I'm Still in Love With You)" (released to country). By the next year both songs rocketed to the top of three charts. That's right 3 charts. YNG to the top of pop/rock and the R&B charts, ICHI to the top of country. She's the first artist to have songs at the top of 3 charts at the same time, maybe the only artist to accomplish the feat. Should you choose to explore more of her catalog you will find yourself diving down a rabbit hole of immense proportions. She's released 30 studio albums most of which went gold, platinum or multi-platinum in 8 different genres. She took home Grammys in 5 of those genres another feat no other artist has come close to matching.
The song is about a longing to return to a place of happiness, perhaps home or just somewhere that holds a special place. If you're unfamiliar with Linda you're in for a treat and a wealth of discovery. She was the most successful (and highest paid) female singer of the 70's and once she tired of performing in rock arenas started an exploration on of many different genres of music including jazz, New Wave, mariachi, operetta, country, folk and traditional pop (otherwise known as The Great American Songbook) among others. She was also collaborated with other artists to much success perhaps the best known is her two albums with Dolly Parton and Emmylou Harris-Trio and Trio II. Some places to start exploring: Rock-"When Will I Be Loved", "Someone to Lay Down Beside Me", "Desperado", "Different Drum" Traditional Pop-"What's New", "I'm a Fool to Want You" Mariachi-"La Charreada", "La Cigarra" Country-"The Sweetest Gift" (with Dolly Parton & Emmylou Harris), "After the Gold Rush" Duets-"Don't Know Much" (with Aaron Neville), "Somewhere Out There" (with James Ingram) Pop-"Adios", "Long, Long Time", "Love Has No Pride" That's really just a smattering, her catalog is deep. Unfortunately she is too ill to sing any longer but she's left behind a tremendous legacy.
Best female vocalist for the past almost 6 decades. Every genre from opera to country and in Spanish as well. No real single slot so she covered songs better than the originals.
Brad & Lex, In my personal opinion which I am confident is shared by much of the music world, Linda Ronstadt is the greatest female singer of the whole second half of the 20th century. She could (and did) take an artist's original tune and do it better than the artist. She was that good. Despite her tragically having a form of Parkinson's now which has disabled her voice, she has left a treasure trove of music which cannot be equaled. I recommend you play her rendition of an old favorite called "Tracks of My Tears" originally done by Smokey Robinson and the Miracles in 1965. It was the reigning version until she did it ten years later in 1975. You'll love it.
Faithless Love, Tumbling Dice, Desperado, I will always love you, Someone to lay down beside me are just a few more of a long list of songs she does. Just love everything she sings amazing voice and band.
Linda helped form The Eagles, Glenn Fry and Don Henley played in her band but were already writing insanely great songs so she suggested Randy Meisner and Bernie Leadon…it was just that simple and she helped launch the song Desperado because it wasn’t going anywhere and after that both had a hit with it💜
Also Jackson Browne wrote Take it Easy but didn’t use it and Glenn asked him if he could finish it and there you have it, one of their first hits!🎼🎼🎼🎼🎼
Linda is extremely versatile, she does country, Rock, opera, American Standards, and Traditional Mexican music. There is no artist like her. There was a great documentary about which came out a few years ago called "The Sounds Of My Voice". I highly recommend you watch it.
Ez on the ears. Ez on the eyes. Whats not to love. Bn listening to her awesome voice for decades now. What a talented lady. Classic . Powerful voice! That last hi note… my my my! Nice one for a slow dance and just sway n get lost in it.. she paints us the picture perfectly! Ahh..

Her voice was always so beautiful.
Her early backing band eventually became The Eagles.
Wife here...I'm a trained vocalist and this song is incredibly hard to sing.!!.Her voice is absolutely AMAZING!!
Linda was probably the most underrated singer ever. Her range was incredible. She could sing any genre
Most of hewer music has a country music style, you hear the steel guitars too,
Glad you're listening to Linda Ronstadt. I loved her albums. What an awesome voice! Check out more of her catalog, you won't be disappointed.
Linda Ronstadt might be the greatest singer ever. Have fun exploring her work!
You have just heard the most beautiful female voice on the planet! Linda is legendary and has a forty plus year catalogue spanning multiple genres. There’s nothing she cannot sing. An amazing talent well worth a deep dive down the rabbit hole. 🌺✌️
her Mexican roots add a special factor to her 70's americana... super talent
You should check out when she sings Silver Threads and Golden Needles with them
Gotta jump in. My favorite female singer ever. Her Mariachi album, "Canciones de mi Padre" is outstanding. I don't even speak Spanish!
Linda fits into so many genres beautifully
That voice ❤️❤️❤️!!!
Early in her career she had back up musicians Don Henley and Glenn Frye who of course later went on to form the Eagles. Check out some of those older videos. You will be blown away. I saw her in 1976 on her You’re No Good tour.
When I was a kid in the 70’s I was so in love with her. 🤣
She has many hits
Maria Muldaur "Midnight At The Oasis"...Nuff Said.
Linda Ronstadt is one of the best singers of all time. A true powerful and beautifully trained voice. Do more of her. Maybe "You're No Good".
Can't go wrong with any Linda Ronstadt tracks. She also does an amazing La Charreada celebrating her Mexican heritage.
Powerful and tender. Rare combination - Linda...sigh.
OMG, Linda is so good. Her voice is as good as anyones.
She is amazing. I think you would enjoy reacting to Linda Ronstadt & Mariachi Vargas doing La Charreada. The lyrics are in Spanish, but it doesn't matter because the performance is so astounding. It really shows off the power of her voice.
Oh boy does it ever. I have listen to many many times
I’m lucky enough to live in her home state of AZ. Love her Spanish songs very very much!! Amazing vocal control.
You want to hear a gorgeous sultry performance, check out "Midnight At The Oasis" by Maria Muldaur from around this same time period.
That’s not auto tuned that’s raw talent right there
Linda has been around from the late 60s.
I love her too. If only she could still perform. Imagine what else would be added to her credits.
Some places to start exploring:
Rock-"When Will I Be Loved", "Someone to Lay Down Beside Me", "Desperado", "Different Drum"
Traditional Pop-"What's New", "I'm a Fool to Want You"
Mariachi-"La Charreada", "La Cigarra"
Country-"The Sweetest Gift" (with Dolly Parton & Emmylou Harris), "After the Gold Rush"
Duets-"Don't Know Much" (with Aaron Neville), "Somewhere Out There" (with James Ingram)
Pop-"Adios", "Long, Long Time", "Love Has No Pride"
That's really just a smattering, her catalog is deep.
Correct. My dad never heard of her. I bought him a CD of her standards with Nelson Riddle and he enjoyed it.
She is like Elvis Presley.
Ahh..
I love Linda to such a beautiful beautiful person inside and out in The Voice I'm not sure if you guys heard her do her Spanish awesome!!
