Excellent breakdown! One of the things that has been overlooked the last couple weeks and going into this game is how well the 49ers defense has been playing. Also the 49ers were down 4 RBs that game and had to start a rookie Trey Sermon. They also weren't featuring Samuels in the running game as much as they are now. It should be a great game as I see the 49ers running the ball much more effectively than the 1st meeting giving them a much better chance at the upset at Lambeau.

Great video Brett. This gave me a little insight into something Aaron Rodgers said as it relates to reading a defense pre-snap. He mentioned that he reads the defense pre-snap from the defensive front first, and sometimes doesn't even look at the coverage because the front tells him all he needs to know. I figure that's the complete opposite of what most other QBs do. It still doesn't make much sense to me how that's his process and that it works, but this video gave me something of an idea. He claims that's how his QB coach from early on in his career always taught it.

In my experience, when teams copy a gameplan that worked against the same team the last time and they have won, they loose now (or at least their gameplan fails). Mostly (what I guess is) its because the loosing team puts much more effort in the work after the game and in resolving their errors. The winning team doesn't, of course beacuse the gameplan worked, so no need to fix it. But the next time, the loosing team is prepared (if the coaching is adequatly of course)

Hey Brett. Love the content. The technique that Chauncey Rivers used on the zone split play is called wrong shouldering. We use it at the high school I coach at. Kittle wants his inside shoulder to knock him outside to create a hole, therefore Rivers gives Kittle the “wrong shoulder” to get into the gap. Didn’t know if you had this terminology. Great video as always.

I really wish NFL broadcasts could show this better. It's almost impossible to see this in real time. The best I can do is recognize two high safeties or man, watch for motion as a tip-off to man, and maybe a few other superficial things. But for the most part, broadcasts only show the results of what Brett shows us in his videos. It's why I never miss these videos; they show me how much I did miss when watching the game.

You were right that this topic is very meaty. At the same time it the impact of the run fit doing well does force opposing offenses to dig deeper into what else they are good at doing. In the case of the Niners despite having a not-so versatile passing game despite having two of their BnBs that they execute so well being taken away (explosive runs and passes), they still flexed their execution on the quick passing game and it was working out.

Great analysis. I think both teams have grown & changed since week 3. Niners have an emerging Elijah Mitchell as well as utilizing Deebo in the backfield means the Niners have way more speed than they did when they were handing off to Juice during the Packers game. The niners fastball is faster, but the Packers also have emerging players that weren't during the last match-up. It's gonna be a great game & I think it'll be within 3 points.

When you mentioned the short quick passing game of the 49ers I just had to go and see the charts for the Packers. I was amused.

Run Fits are great, but what is more important is execution. A bad plan executed well is better than a great plan executed poorly. Especially on the defensive front where shit hits the fan almost every play, you gotta rely on having the talent to flat out beat blocks.

I hope you do a post mortem on this video.
The game began just like this. However, SF adjusted and you could see them using the Packers aggressive lateral movement against them. The 49ers began washing them down as runners would cut inside. SF called several pitch plays which looked like edge runs but were designed inside runs to attack that flow.
This caused the Packers defense to slow their aggression l, which allowed Mitchell to get outside on several actual wide plays. Green Bay was lights out in the first half, but Jimmy's bad decisions and drops are what slowed down the 49ers in the second half far more than anything the Packers were doing.

As a non-American viewer you've completely changed the way I watch and appreciate America's game, Brett. Thanks for your work.
One thing I'd love to see a video on is how there isn't a holding penalty called on almost every single play and how the officials actually decide to call one. It's one of the most frustrating things about the closest European sport to American Football, rugby, where the officials' interpretation of certain rules can completely change the way a game is played or the whole outcome of a match. To me all those Defensive and Offensive linemen are just holding each other all the time, and don't get me started on pass interference calls and the way that is interpreted.

So, any possibility of a Part 2 discussing how the Packers walk down the field unopposed on the opening script, and then struggle to even get close to midfield for the whole rest of the game?

The Deebo factor is a prety big deal too, they were not using him as much back then and can be very disruptive; I'm really excited for the weekend.

Solid choice with the Lusteau. If you're into single pot still Irish whiskies, would highly recommend any of the Spot's if you don't have any. Yellow Spot and especially Blue Spot (although hard to find) are incredible.

Brett you had a video explaining thar the best way to attack defenses was to have a versatile offensive system, that is always changing depending on the opposition, I can't find it anymore can you help me?Belichick's staple philosophy of flexibility.

Great video. It will be interesting to see if GB will continue to stop the run with Mitchell and Debo in the backfield. I think the game will be competitive only if 1) Jimmy commits no turn overs and 2) the SF Dline applies significant pressure.
