People give Sanders a lot of praise, but I still think it's all still underrated. When you look at many of his plays, he had to change up his route and make the play himself because the intended route broke down. That man was amazing
You're right. Man's averaged 5 yards per carry for his career despite consistently being met in the backfield and tackled for a loss. That's damn near unfathomable.
Absolutely!! He didn't have an O-line that could compete. He made things happen, all by himself! If he had a better team around him, all the records would have his name beside them
@mikemendoza4274 When you're talking about pro athletes, to say 1 was the best is always going to be debatable. Overall, consensus puts either Emitt or Barry at number 1. Personally, I like Barry because of what he was able to do on a sub-par team.
James "Jim" Brown... Is clearly the best. Barry Sanders is great and the most elusive. Brown is the RB literally carried the team on his back to win the championship. Brown hit defensive players into submission. Go look at his highlights.
Dudes start and stop speed was unworldly. I remeber his last year he actually fumbled (something he didnt do often) right about where the ball was snapped from and landed about where it was snappe from and he was maybe a yard on the defenses side and he turned around and picked it back up before anyone else could even think about reacting. The guy made a highlight out of a fumble.
Plus throughout both of their careers. Just like he did every other defender in the NFL. Literally, no one made their mark by getting known as a Barry Sanders stopper.
Not just his speed, but his ability to cut on a dime. And his ability to know when a defender was close enough to make a tackle, he had an almost supernatural ability to avoid them.
If the Lions would have ever paired him up with something better than a Division III JuCo offensive line, he would have put up untouchable numbers forever.
@@dcan5012I was a Cowboys fan back then, but no. Swap them onto the other team, and do you really think Emmitt does as well with the Lions? But put Barry behind any line, and he's still making the defense look silly.

Most every other running back, since Barry, has been a power runner, no more slippery, amazing, and exciting running backs, at least to my memory.
not forever buddy... things work in cycles. its disgusting how monetarily undervalued the running game has become. sheer stupidity. it's all about balance and the structure of american football is so much so that the optimality (that is, the balance between the 'runnning' and 'passing' game) of this sport/league will center back ("regress" back to) the mean; which means mfs need to pay mfs that contribute to said optimality. THE RUNNING GAME IS GOING NOWHERE and will be valued accordingly in time(s) to come... how long?... who knows (that's like asking how stupid the human species is... who knows). Please don't EVER discount the half backs
@@brandenjannah1334 Interesting point. Truly great teams have a balanced attack. If all you can do is pass, defenses can blitz every play, and disrupt the passer. When you have a great running game, the passing game is an extra. Michigan won the National Championship because they were a smash mouth running team. When the games got tougher, they ran more. I LOVE Dan Marino. Greatest quarterback of all time, but he wanted to pass, all the time. Which led to him not having a balanced game, which led to him only going to one Super Bowl. Barry was just different
Hall of Famer vs. Hall of Famer,... Sanders vs. Lynch...Barry torches him!!😮
Right, Lynch was great but not on Sanders level of greatness
Barry got him on that particular play, but Barry has also said that the hardest he was ever hit was by John Lynch! So obviously John got the better of him on another play!
@@BST-lm4pohe talkin about marshawn lynch

I’ve been a linebacker most my life and this is one of the hardest drills in practice because you have to break down, understand where the guys is going and try and make a form tackle without getting runover lol he might of lost this round but he’s delivered on Barry too
Used to love watching Barry play. Dude was amazing, humble, and loyal. Absolute legend!
Amazing balance by Sanders..❤
No one has ever been more elusive than Barry Sanders 🔥
The most amazing running back I have ever seen.

Open field against Barry Sanders, not a good place to be.
Barry did that to a lot of great defensive players. He was a one of a kind Running back. Deserves every accolade he gets.
Noone can cut like barry....he cuts so much and so good, they didn't need to cut the grass 😂😂😂
People give Sanders a lot of praise, but I still think it's all still underrated. When you look at many of his plays, he had to change up his route and make the play himself because the intended route broke down. That man was amazing
Exactly
You're right. Man's averaged 5 yards per carry for his career despite consistently being met in the backfield and tackled for a loss. That's damn near unfathomable.
@@HooverSeussyep the only rb in nfl history to have as many negative carries as he did positive carries and still average over five yards per carry
Absolutely!! He didn't have an O-line that could compete. He made things happen, all by himself! If he had a better team around him, all the records would have his name beside them
Well, in those people's defense, there no place above the best ever, sooooo......

What about Crazy Legs Payton (Wlater Payton)?
@mikemendoza4274 When you're talking about pro athletes, to say 1 was the best is always going to be debatable. Overall, consensus puts either Emitt or Barry at number 1. Personally, I like Barry because of what he was able to do on a sub-par team.
James "Jim" Brown... Is clearly the best. Barry Sanders is great and the most elusive. Brown is the RB literally carried the team on his back to win the championship. Brown hit defensive players into submission. Go look at his highlights.
@@sharkdeepwater8 Brown had hall of famers during most of his years, you’re trash
That shoulder shake and the foot plant was amazing
Dudes start and stop speed was unworldly. I remeber his last year he actually fumbled (something he didnt do often) right about where the ball was snapped from and landed about where it was snappe from and he was maybe a yard on the defenses side and he turned around and picked it back up before anyone else could even think about reacting. The guy made a highlight out of a fumble.
Yeah, I think I remember at one point Barry hadn't fumbled in well over 800 carries. That's incredible.@bradsanders407
Greatest RB of all time.
Barry got him twice in this game
Two 80 yard TD runs on the same game
Plus throughout both of their careers. Just like he did every other defender in the NFL. Literally, no one made their mark by getting known as a Barry Sanders stopper.
It’s like trying to Tackle Air 😅.
Yo that's the best analogy I've EVER heard!!!! 😀

The best to ever do it.
That speed is ridiculously Savage 💨
Not just his speed, but his ability to cut on a dime. And his ability to know when a defender was close enough to make a tackle, he had an almost supernatural ability to avoid them.

@@bradsanders407 Hmm, interesting, but from what l know about his dad l'm going to have to take him at his word, literally. He grew up watching Jim Brown so he was probably serious about it, and let's face it Jim Brown was arguably the most dominant rb to ever play, at least in his day.
Yeah Barry could shake & juke anyone in the league, but people often forget that 4.3 speed he had too 🔥🔥🔥
Sanders speed was weird. He wasn't fast, but he was ridiculously quick and could get up to full speed almost immediately. In other words, he has one of the best 40 times (4.37) out there. But his 100 yard times are very average. It was amazing how many times he got ran down after a 60+ yard run. His ability to move lateral has been unmatched ever.
And could run you over if he really wanted to.
@alexh8613 he got ran down because of his short strides his legs were not lengthy
@@alexh8613 EXACTLY. Barry could burst out in a hurry plus stop and shift on the dime. His vision was unbelievable. But his achilles heel was getting run down from behind at the end of long runs. I remember I used to say to save yourself the embarrassment of getting juked real bad, your best bet is to just let him run by you then chase him down from behind. He's my favorite. My Top 5 are Jim Brown, Barry, Sweetness, O.J, and Emmitt.
@@JJACK2024He got ran down because he didn’t have elite top speed, not because his legs are short. Tyreek Hill is about the same size with short strides and is faster then just about every one in the league.

During an era where Running Backs were highly valued! It's a passing league now and forever will be! Thanks Barry for all of the exciting and memorable highlights!
Yes, but Barry was worth the price of admission. Whenever he played, people were amazed. I haven't seen a running back since Barry, that made me want to watch him in person. He was simply amazing. Tyreek Hill is the closes thing to Barry in simply being amazing.
Love him, but you've GOT to run.
