    The fact that people say "I don't want to vote for Labour or the Tories" and then choose Reform over HIM says a lot about the character of the British public.

    • @_Stroda
      @_Stroda 3 місяці тому

      By "British public" you, of course, mean something like 17% of those intending to vote, right?
      So, working on the basis of there being about 47mil adults, and turnout in the election being poor, perhaps around 60%, and roughly 15% of those who vote picking Reform....
      You're looking at, perhaps, 4-5mil people, out of a population of roughly 69mil, voting for Reform.
      That's hardly the 'British public', is it? Though, given the incessant media coverage of Farage and his moron followers, I suppose you could be forgiven for feeling otherwise.

    I voted for the Lib Dem’s in 2010. It was my first election and felt badly burnt when they dropped the tuition fees pledge. I protested at Demolition 2010 and was in Parliament Square the day the vote went through. As I’ve got older and in reflection - and I still think the wording of the pledge was a huge blunder - I’ve come to realise that a coalition is exactly that and neither the Tories nor the Lib Dem’s got to implement their whole manifesto. Some on the left feel they should’ve gone in to coalition with Labour but I do agree with the notion that, as they weren’t the larger party, that it would’ve constitutionally been wrong. In 2015 I abandoned them and voted for my local MP Ken Clarke. Looking back now it’s clear that they blunted a lot of the Tories worst instincts and the issues that they got the Tories to compromise on have been some of the few positives of their 14 years in power. Policies that I don’t think get attributed to the Lib Dem’s. Anyway tomorrow I come back to the Lib Dem’s. You’re unlikely to win in my constituency but I don’t like the Tories, don’t trust Labour and Reform aren’t a serious party. Hoping you get in to opposition.

      Same. At 14:10 when he spoke about hoping that he made his parents proud, his emotion came across as genuine and relatable - and I don't think I've ever been able to say that about a politician.
      That's what we need more of in politics, humanity. Not these culture wars, attacking others for thinking differently to us, or drawing lines in the sand in an "us vs them" way - we've always been able to get along and be civil before, why has it changed now? Bringing back some intelligence, decency, and civility will require intelligent, decent, and civil people, who will be able to push the levels even higher by being relatable and human.

      I was just thinking the same. When he got emotional about making his parents proud, I realised that it was the first time in a very long time that a politician seemed human, decent, and likeable.
      I'm sick of this "pick a team", culture war mentality, where you're either with us or against us, and everyone is so angry all the time. What happened to civility, and working together to solve our problems? I hope to God that this man is able to bring us back to a time when slinging insults wasn't the norm, or the expected response to disagreeing on a principle. I wish he hadn't gone through so much, but I like that he can be open about it. Why go after the one guy who actually met the postmasters - do you think he should have refused like the others, who you haven't at all been bothered by?

    I think it's a bit naive to think you can really undermine Putin by investing in renewables. Besides that, that would also create more power for people where we get the stuff for solar from like Lithium which is from China.
