One of my favorite Swiss brands in the $2,000 - 4,000 range is Longines, which offers a lot of value in terms of luxury finishing and upgraded ETA movements for a more reasonable price compared to many other Swiss luxury options. In this video, I'll take a look at the mass-appealing Longines Conquest in a wearable 39mm case size. For me, this might just be one of the best options for an everyday watch at just over $1,000.

Great video! I've had my black 43mm Conquest L3.778.4 for 5 years now and what a watch! Even now, so many years later I am happy with the decision I made back then. And now maybe even more so. I've received compliments numerous times and I love looking at it. It always feels like a special occasion when I put it on, even tho I wear it every day! Strongly recommend!
Superb value proposition. The first genuine quality watch any of my friends had, as a teenager, was a Longine dress watch. I genuinely think these new timepieces have come down a great deal, in real terms since the early 80s. Great video, keep up the good work, Teddy!
I just ordered the 43mm version after watching your video. It will be my first Swiss! Thanks for the articulate review.
Thank you, Teddy, for delving deeper into Longines. It is a great brand.
I was just mulling over this watch for my first swiss watch man! Thanks for the review. I always trust your knowledge on watches. My immense gratitude for your review!
I’m a avid watch collector with many, many very expensive watches. Way more expensive than the conquest here, but for some reason, I’m totally fascinated by this watch and can’t wait to get my hands on one of them. The simplicity and the clean, honest look of this watch is very refreshing
What’s your input on a freelancer Raymond Weil
For anyone debating if this watch is worth it or not, I can tell you this : it is definitely worth every penny.
Yes, there are other options out there, for cheaper, but they don't hit as high as this Conquest does. I own the 39mm, blue dial variant, and it is amazing. Above any Tissot, Certina, Hamilton, Seiko in the price range. Above some of them slightly, above some of them by miles.
The appearance is something you either like, or you don't. It is not perfect by any means, and there are certain aspects of this watch that could be improved ( that might be better on other options ) , but as an overall package, this watch is incredible.
If I would have to choose one watch to keep from my entire collection, this would be the one. If you prefer a Tissot or a Seiko above this, that is just as fine, but you have to acknowledge the incredible value this watch brings.
Also, seeing this in person, and trying it on, might help steer you in the right direction.
How's the lume?..
@@knightrider693 Non existent on the variant that I have - 39mm with blue dial
Wears nice on smaller wrists aswell (39mm)
How fast is yours per day? I have black dial 39mm, mine is about 10 seconds per day.
@@abel2cycle989 Mine runs at about -6 / day
Teddy, cheers to your editing team .. the cinematics are awesome and the content also, very well done !
I have the 34mm watch and I cannot stop enjoying it every single time I put it on! Thanks for the review Teddy!
Teddy, I have been eyeing this watch for a while. Thanks for that extra push to finally pull the trigger. Putting in my order now.
I bought this watch (blue 39mm) last year after watching this review. Thank you so much for reviewing such a beautiful watch, this has been the perfect watch for me.
I own a black dial Longines Conquest 41, and it's my favorite watch in my collection. Super versatile and good-looking, I love it!
What is your collection ? Do you keep the metal bracelet on your Conquest? I've the Phoenix nato it's splendid.
What else is in the collection? Out of curiosity only, I too find it very versatile and situation flexible.
@@wayneturner1336 at the time of the comment, I had a Seiko 5 sport, Seiko presage cocktail, vintage omega Seamaster. Now I added a Datejust 41 slate with a jubilee bracelet
@@MicheleRiva nicely balanced collection, congrats on grabbing an op in this market!
I bought this watch because I liked the look (plus it's Swiss made) before I discovered your channel. I feel reassured to know that this watch has a solid reputation and to hear your positive comments enhances the way I "see" the watch now.
I’ve seen the VHP mentioned…and I’m going to mention it again. I know quartz tends to be frowned on by watch snobs, but it is a special precise movement and it’s got some cool tricks for those of us that travel often. Also I think there’s something nice about having at least one watch in your collection that you are never worried about winding/power reserve
I would buy the VHP in a heartbeat if it didn't only have 50m of water resistance. For a watch that is otherwise ideal for travelling 50m is simply not enough and for some reason they even proudly put it on the dial. Such a wasted opportunity.
It's a valid point Andrew. I have a reasonable sized collection....and own one quartz...and for exactly that reason. It's worth doing!
Quartz isn't frowned upon by me. I picked up a new 39mm Hydroconquest quartz for $700. I actually prefer the quartz in this size because it is about 2mm thinner. This is my grab-n-go daily beater. I have a mix of quartz and autos. To me, the Conquest/Hydro value is in the quartz versions. You get the same quality at a much better price.
If you want a really cool, quality quartz -- check out the Oceanus Casio S100. It's a JDP piece. Titanium, Solar and radio controlled. Zaratsu polishing just like the Grand Seikos. A steal for about $500.
@@camels3269 If you want a really cool, quality quartz -- check out the Oceanus Casio S100. It's a JDP piece. Titanium, Sapphire crystal, Solar and radio controlled 100m water resistance. Very easy to change time zones. Zaratsu polishing just like the Grand Seikos. A steal for about $500.
I know this video is 8 months old, but Id like to say one thing, the elusive silver dial variant is absolutely incredible and classy.
I really like Longines as a brand - I have a Hydroconquest and a couple of vintage ones and on the latter pair I was able to get details of the watch from Longines history department free of charge. One is a 1914 pocket watch that was sent to the distributor in Paris - Great history!
i have this color in the 43 mm quartz version. It is especially accurate long term even for a quartz. i bought my son the 41 mm quartz Conquest in black and it's equally good. We have them for five or six years with only one battery change so far and no issues.
Teddy, first, love your videos and everything you do to raise watch awareness. I've got a recommendation. I watch Auto Mundial. They do reviews on European Cars. But one thing I really like, is after reviewing a vehicle, they give a very short look at two competitors. When you review a single watch like above, it would be great for you to briefly mention two or more other brands/watches that would be competitive. I love learning about other brands and this could help to expand our brand awareness. Thanks.
YESSSSS HE'S FEATURING MY WATCH
I purchased the Longines Conquest 43mm Silver Dial with brown leather band yesterday and I couldn't be happier.
I have long wondered why watch youtubers almost never mention this watch. To me it's an obvious affordable explorer alternative.
Was looking at it this morning, really like the Conquest , I own a Gentleman Auto & PRX so I am kind of covered in this category but maybe I’ll unload one and finally grab a Conquest. Solid piece that’s sharp looking along with great brand heritage.
@@poppad1187 I have a Hydroconquest and love it. I think it’s definitely a step up in quality when it’s in your hand for from tissot. Don’t get me wrong they are a great brand as well but people sleep on longines. I might actually buy a PRX soon.
Can't agree more. I always wonder why there are some little mentioned about this. Finally we get to see some decent on wrist shots of the Conquest.
On point.
Totally agreed
This is a stunning watch and is on my list of possible purchases. Thanks for making a video on this brand. It is refreshing to hear about these brands ! Cheers!
My 1962 manual Longines is the most accurate mechanical watch that I own! It gains about +3 a day. I love this brand.
Great video as usual, Teddy. I have the 41mm version. Absolutely love it!
I have the older model of this Conquest on rubber. I absolutely agrees with you that this model is grossly underrated and it deserves more attention. Built quality is great at this price point. This one is a keeper 👍
What rubber strap do you use for this? I’ve been looking for one!
@@edptatohd6 My Conquest came in the original rubber strap. I didn't get the one with the bracelet. The original butterfly clasp is a tad annoying, wish it came with a regular buckle instead.
Yes. This is my daily, had it for 5 years! Only a standard ETA 2824 in mine though. Terrific watch on every level, I absolutely love it.
I've got a new one coming, but in another 5 years they'll have another movement upgrade 😂 that's how our whole world works
Thorough review. Teddy is on another level.
your videos and commentary are so compelling. even watches that are not on my radar seem so attractive! good work, teddy. besides, i am from cleveland too! always see it in the backgrounds : )
keep up the good work!
picked up the black 41mm automatic because of this video. love it, thanks Teddy
This watch strikes me as the best 3 hand watch in the 2000$ range. Maybe my Batavi Kosmopoliet is better for an everyday office casual piece, but this one is probably more comfortable in my opinion. Another great review, the brand is remarkable, good camera work and great research.
We call dem “long jeans” down south
Hell yes brother!!!!
I think I asked you about this watch a year ago or more. Glad to see you mentioning it
Longines nailed it with 39mm! Wow beautiful watch.
Both this beautiful piece and the Tissot Gentleman Powermatic 80 Silicium are on my "to get" list. Both equally beautiful and are worth every penny.
I liked the Tissot dial a little more, but the movements in Longines are superior from what I have read from owners.
I love this watch! Can't get an explorer so this is my next pick after my Seamaster that I love. Love all your videos Teddy, keep up the great content.
Agree, I own the Conquest and have the complimentary Hydroconquest with the red bezel a great matching pair.
You are the best in timing of reviews 🤗
I've just checked the conquest at the jewelery. What's also interesting: the Conquest is available in 43, 41 or 39 mm. Which is actually great because of my small wrist size and a lack of sub 40 mm watches.
But actually the price and vallue is not that satisfying. The competitor Tissot Gentleman from the same Swatch Family look similiar in design but with silicon, 80 hrs power reserve, with lumina and around 20% cheaper.
I think a direct comparing of these competiting sister models would be very interesting.
The L888.5 in these also has silicon
I have the discontinued Conquest GMT with a lovely red GMT hand that contrast beautifully with the sunburst blue dial. It’s a wonderful watch, highly recommended
I love watching you evolve.
Longines, Oris, Nomos, Eterna. All very nice in that price range.
This could scratch a lot peoples Explorer and Aqua Terra itches.
@@bazitube390 I have to say I agree with you. I like watches of all price points for what they are buy I wish more people liked this or anything else for what it is in itself. Hard to get the ONE out of your mind with anything else
@@bazitube390 fair enough, to each his own I guess.
It is a very nice watch. Could sit in any room and be respected
This is a great classy yet simple watch as an every day wearer. Light yet substantial.
Just ordered mine. Black dial. Thanks for introducing me to this watch.
This is one on my "Watch collection dream list" for me currently. Hopefully I can get it soon enough and now a chance to get it from Teddy.
Outstanding production quality. Its not easy to film watches but you and your crew do an amazing job.
OMG, I orderded it two days ago and received it 2hrs ago thinking no one ever talks about this watch !
Just received mine -- the black 39mm model -- and have no complaints. A handsome, well executed watch for an exceedingly reasonable price. Had zero problems with the butterfly clasp; fits perfectly.
Were the indices painted on?
@@pt192 Yes, whereas the blue version has applied indices.
Your wrist size ?
@@oguz787 7 1/4 inches.
@@chrishennemeyer7276
I have 17cm wrist do you prefer 39mm or 41 mm,thnks for your help:)
I love this watch and it has been on my radar for some time now. It is a very likely project for me in the not so distant future.
Love this piece.... I've had the 41mm version for 2 years now and it's a tank. It did indeed scratch my Explorer itch.
Such a sleeper piece. I bought this watch in 2017 and its been a go to for years. Great choice and I'm hoping they upgrade this guy with maybe a new movement, smaller size.
Thanks Teddy Baldassarre. I have only vintage Longines. But this one is an wearable and affordably new watch. Greetings to everybody. Good staff.
yes, it is. I have the same in 41mm with black dial! An amazing watch.
Amazing watch, especially with the blue dial!
That's the watch I got for my last birthday, the 39mm automatic black dial with lume hands (the lume is disapointing by the way). For me it was a no brainer, got it second hand from a guy who bought it 3 month back for just 600€, I had been on the hunt for it for a few month on chrono24 as they were all around 800€ second hand. Swiss automatic every day watch, 300m WR, ETA, date, original design... suited for any ocasion and a tank. I had been quite disapointed to never see it mentioned by any watch youtuber so far.
I just got one for graduating high school. Love it so much
Good shout Teddy. When you see some of the designer crap that some buy for this and more. Well....! For anyone wanting a Rolex Explorer who doesn't have, or doesn't want to splash out that kind of money, this looks like the perfect choice.
Just bought the 43mm on steel bracelet version. Class watch and the sweep is good too.
This watch ticks all the boxes for me. It is reliable and feels and looks fantastic on your wrist. If you have slim wrists like me the 39 mm will be great. A timeless classic. Love watching your videos Teddy.👍👍
exactly what i wanted thanks! The watch and the history.. I like this over most Tissot actually, never considered it before..
Thanks for the video... I'm considering the conquest and hydro conquest... both are very nice
I do have the previous black longines conquest. I deliberately got the previous model because the recent models for the black dial does not come with applied markers while the previous models do. The applied markers do add more character and elegance to the watch.
You make me so happy with this video because I m buying one of this longines
This watch looks so clear and perfectly designed, minimalistic and sporty but without anything unpractical and unnecessary. I don’t know if there is any other watch so perfectly designed among all brands and models.
Gorgeous timepiece. Just purchased the Tissot Gentleman Powermatic but might purchase this one too.
I have a conquest VHP chronograph, this is the best watch i've ever had.
I have previously made a comment on Teddy's excellent clip but wanted to add the following-just incase it may be of value to any of you guys out there. So, I ended up buying one of these last week...and I couldn't be happier with it. While not exactly cheap, it is absolutely top notch for the money and is the perfect blend of dress and sporty. While I don't see many of us hitting 300m of depth...it says a great deal about the build quality of this excellent timepiece. Just note though fellas...it does wear 'biggish'. If you're unsure about the 39 or 41mm; go for the 39. Secondly, I was going to go for the blue as I have a lot of black and white faced pieces, but...'in person', it looks much lighter than on screen-so do bear in mind if ordering direct from the our our good man Teddy here ;)
Bottom line however... Extremely happy with it! It looks, feels...and is...a super piece.
P.S. After three days, time keeping is absolutely correct.
Best from Blighty chaps! :-)
Damn it! That's good value for money. If I hadn't bought my Tissot Gentleman I would be considering this watch
Loved my conquest. It was my first ‘proper’ watch. Great piece, such a great gateway into the luxury watch world. Bang for buck it’s amazing, only eclipsed by the VHP or Hydroconquest on rubber
What were the following ones in your 'collections'?
Thank you for pointing out the difference in the colorways. It is beyond me why a brand like Longines would apply in one and print in another. I would definitely lean toward the blue dial for that reason. Also, had been thinking about a Tissot Gentleman, but I think I'd rather stretch the budget just a little bit further and pick up another Longines.
I think there is quite a good argument in favor of the print, considering the overall design. Initially I also thought the applied indices would make the watch look more premium. But the dial design which appears to be large despite the 39mm diameter, mainly due to the size of the arabics coupled with the high contrast, the applied indices made it look like a little bit over the top and in your face. The print in the black version actually refines the overall look.
@@jericocalzado I felt the same way , but I read so many comments about painted indices being/looking cheap compared to applied. All the while, there are plenty of great watchmakers and dials that have painted indices or numerals, IWC, Sinn, Omega, and many others. I think it just depends on the execution/style etc.
I’m between the gentlemen and the conquest as well, both beautiful watches!
@@jonmiller7919 so which one did you get?
Now I’m motivated to buy one. As for me I don’t see the need to pay more then 1k or 1500 for a
Watch. Thanks for the video.
I love my conquest. You are quite right about its value for the money.
Great find! I feel this is a "sleeper" type of watch (or as you put it; "underrated".
Nice specs, nice watch, great heritage.
This is right in my sweet spot for day-to-day wear. Thanks for sharing!
What's cool though is that when ya see someone wearing it, you know they are a watch guy lol
Thanks for doing a video on these watches. I had overlooked them in the past as I had focused too much on their Diver's version but these ones without bezels appeal to me. I recently got a BigEye Chrono. It made me realize that Longines has some more interesting options to consider.
Great content, Teddy!
I sugest you a 3 hand-only market Comparison 🇧🇷
My missus has the 29.5mm version, the dail is beautiful.
The Conquests are vastly underrated
Great review, thanks for that. It looks like it has borrowed the case and crownguard off the hydoconquest? 300m water resistance is amazing but i dont usually dive that deep with my casual watches on. I dont even go 300m horizontal.
Hey Teddy, love the great content. Wanted to ask if you can cover new or upcoming technologies in Mechanical watches. I just learned about globolight and lumicsst after looking at a Moser. I'm curious to know if there are other watch technologies that are new or being worked on.
Great watch, I would to see you do a review of the conquest VHP quartz.
Nobody is gonna talk about how crazy that intro beat is? Also looking to get this watch for my 30th Birthday!
If I was just starting out in watches, I would buy this watch. I like the design, the power reserve. Well worth the price. Unfortunately I have great watches, I never wear and this is the type of watch that should be worn every day.
I love Longines as a brand and already have a nice dress watch. I've seriously been considering the blue faced Hydroconquest but this Conquest is appealing to me. I am confused as well as to why they didn't put the glowing lume numbers on the blue faced Conquest. Why on the black, but not the blue?
Yes it's a versatile watch at reasonable price! Is the steel bracelet detachable so that I can use a leather strap?
What is your opinion on Longines Conquest but the quartz version? Is it worth the money or should I look toward the automatic or the vhp ?
Hey Teddy, considering the 39mm Conquest or the Seiko Presage sharp edge, which do you think is the better option in terms of finish, appearance and fit?
I'm not sure about the huge numerals, and what's with the I 2 at the twelve position? Did they just use an indice/baton without lume as a numeral and not bother resizing it?
I just got the Longines Conquest VHP and love it!
Nice choice. One of the cooler quartz powered watches.
So, how would the Longines caliber used in this watch be different from the corrisponding ETA? In which sense could it be defined "proprietary"?
Great review of a great watch.
I've got the white dial 41mm with an additional leather strap which really makes it stand out even more. I've got a 6.7 inch wrist, glad I didn't go 43mm ...even though I have bigger watches...this one you want to wear it on the smaller side.
I just got the Longines moonphase slimline womens watch such a good watch I'm loving it
But how would it compare with say the Sinn 556A/I? I wonder if that is the real alternative for those who look for something more
I love this watch so much, but I wish they'd have the date in black for the version with the black dial. It's a weird pet peeve of mine but I just can't stand the white date on a black dial; it's so easy to just use a different color!
Which watch would you prefer, the conquest 39 automatic or the formex essence 39?
I know it’s not that much of a size difference but could you highlight watches that are 41mm or larger? Anything smaller than that feels and looks a bit small on my wrist of 7.5 inches.
Great vid. I don't know what else you could ask for in that price range. Very clean, versatile, legible, good looking watch. Personally, I place value on good lume for dive or tool watches. I'm ok with the blue dial version not having lume on the hands.
What else you could ask for in that price range? How much does it cost add little bit LumiNova to blue dial and hands? 5 euro?
I can’t get to try one of these in the flesh but I’m wondering what the minimum wrist size is for the link removal? I’ve a very slight 6” wrist (maybe less) and worried I won’t get enough links out. Thx
Wow, That is a great looking watch! the Explorer look. Nice. Wish it was an all brushed bracelet.
I agree. It's still a little big and thick. I think I am going to go with the Traska Summiteer
Nice. I've had one for about 10 years. Mine has the leather clasp strap. Maybe that was a 00s thing?
Beautiful watch such an affordable alternative to explorer.
Nice watch and all, but where did you get that jacket from?
