Thanks! I just got inspired and cooked this! I did the custard to put on top of some left over crepes I had... but I added cajeta (mexican milk caramel) to the process and it tastes deliciously!
While an ice cream maker would yield better results you do not need one to make this recipe. To de- mystify this custard myth even further just follow recipe on this video. Put in freezer and stir custard mix every hour or so scraping the sides and bottom of the container until completely set.
I'm musing about the best egg nog becoming ice cream. Lovely. 💕😋 I could live without cinnamon, but not without vanilla, cardamom and nutmeg. My Indian friend put sugar and cardamom with milk in a battered old pot over low heat, stirring, telling stories, filling the room with a hypnotic beauty. More than once I teared up as she poured a cup for herself and one for me. She must have been my mother or aunt in a past incarnation. Powerful stuff, aromatic memory...in our cellular structures. Soul energy. For me, nothing compares to the versatile magic of nutmeg, in egg nog or a bechamel with salt, lots of white pepper, and nutmeg. A friend from Nice made a shallow casserole with steamed artichokes, hearts evenly arranged, then enveloped in bechamel, adding all the flesh scraped from the leaves...and whatever cheese pleased her. Blew my mind, vraiment. I love having some time with you in your kitchen. You'd be welcome anytime in mine. Just give a heads up, and I'll let the wine breathe.
Looks divine! Thank you for this one, Randy. You ROCK!
Born teacher and fellow lover of custard!😍👏🏼👌🏼
Thanks for the tips!
Thank you so much for the explanation on the egg yolks. You're the first Chef that has been able to explain that.
Ooo la la! French custard! I must try this for Thanksgiving and another reason to give thanks for our bounty!

Yummy! Looks so delicious! By the way, I wish you were my sister!
No wonder why rich and creamy ice cream costs a lot more than large_icecrystal ice cream.
