500 ml milk
600 ml single cream
vanilla bean
8 egg yolks
5 tbsp sugar
1 tsp corn flour
Hey, if you freeze this, will it turn into ice cream?
Yes
What is double cream?
Or single cream for that matter
@@francneufeld5050 I wonder the same thing
after my 4 years old son and I watched this, he said "mom, can we make the bastard now?" . 😅 "not bastard baby, it's custard."
If it adds any more gut to my stomach your baby had it right...😂😂😂
LMAO
😂🤣😂🤣
Lol
😂😂
I dont mind at all with the AD videos, because we still get free recipes and cooking techniques while Jamie could promote his products. it's a win-win situation ;D
I bit less of the makeup and brushback hair though, he looks best a bit less formal in my opinion.
It was a nice straight forward non manipulative ad as well "just gonna big up ma pans" like, right on mate you do you
Except he’s promoting carcinogenic Teflon chemicals
@@cogybear did you actually pay attention what he said in the video? He said hard anodized ceramic pans. Not teflon....
I'm commenting on this video to just say thank you for being clear this is an add in both the description of the vid and the intro. It's genuinely appreciated.
Yes, though one D in Ad, otherwise its short for Addition, rather than Advertisement.
My goodness, this is delicious! Just made it and it came out perfect👌. Thank you Jamie!
i don't get why people get upset over paid videos, its not like you HAVE to buy products from brand he's using
crazy cat lady Some people hates the idea of capitalistic market, they want the government to come up with the perfect cookware and distribute to every doors already paid by the tax dollar.
holmiumh i'm not sure if you're being sarcastic, but isn't that a thing in socialisam/comunism which west world hates? xD
The people from the US (and maybe the Venezuelan) are the only one who hate socialism thanks to both the USSR being a shithole and the US government doing its propaganda and promoting lobbying.
Europeans are mostly fine with it
It is but Socialism is popular for some really strange reason with the left here in the US
Yeah, wish the USSR never happened, it was just a huge massacre
I love the way Chef explains all the steps beautifully in detail along with the tips. Usually, I have no idea about baking but I have been learning quite a bit....Thank you, Chef!
If like that then you probably don't know how to cook
It looks sooo satisfying to scrape out the contents of a vanilla bean! :-)
It totally is!
Where could i buy this ? I mean all done, and i will experiment later 😄
@@JamieOliver l PK aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaààa seed
@@oscarvillanueva7307 you CAN buy vanilla bean at Walmart. It’s in the organic Spices section in the same size jar, but it’s 11.68
Thank you for sharing. I like how simple most of your recipes are
i love how he gives examples of what else you can do with leftovers or equipment
or ingredients
Always used the powder for custard… but No More! You truly make it easy for us to become above average cooks. Love all your ideas and ease of teaching. Thank you 😊
Yep. Honestly, it all starts from fresh, wholesome ingredients. Obvious but the more shop stuff and E numbers, the lower the level of the end dish!
My goodness, this looks delicious! Thank you for sharing. 😄
Just did it and it was soo yummy with the apple crumble. Thanks Jamie!
that kitchen full of green herbs and the scent of vanilla custard! towards the end, i could feel the warmth of the bowl filled with freshly made custard and apple crumble. this was great to watch; i don't doubt that it would have been even greater to taste. kudos.
Try it if you have time. Milk (proper milk) and fresh eggs always the start of a great tasting journey!
I want someone to look at me like Jamie Oliver looks at vanilla bean.
I always watch Jamie's videos in the morning when I eat breakfast. Makes me so happy! Been watching since the Naked Chef
I’ve been trying to find a good instructional video on stovetop custard for when I’m making custard based ice cream and this one looks like the best one! Thank you!
Simple, concise as usual. Bravo ♥♥♥
wow, i didnt realize how easy custard was to make..
its not easy
Hello, Mr. Oliver... Thank you for cooking with a sense of the people watching you. Obviously, I'm no professional cook, but, I can try to keep up and cook like one with you! Once again, "Thank You!" Be well! -gayle from Detroit
Jamie knows how to "sell" stuff!
Looks sooo delicious and yummy.
Booking my ticket from Sweden to England straight away...Looks lovely! Great Job, Jamie! You rock!
Hello, you always have interesting and useful recipes. Thank you.
I'm using your pans and i really love them!
I love everything vanilla. Just bought some plump moist gourmet vanilla beans from native vanilla and am going to get started with this recipe.
Aren't 2 vanilla beans in the bottle with the other spices like $65.00??? LOL! Seriously, why so expensive? I just can't bring myself to pay so much for 2 vanilla pods in that bottle! And I bake all the time! The liquid Madagascar Vanilla in the little brown bottle is plenty expensive.....I found it on sale for half price and I bought them all! There they are in my spice cupboard looking all pretty! But I'd much rather see the pods :-(
Thanks Jamie , because of your video I made custard successfully for the first time !
The most perfect combination!
Simply the best little custard! I make this too for banana pudding and use the left over egg whites for the meringue topping, ohh, have to make this soon!
Hi there, I've seen recipes where the whole egg is used...any idea how it would turn out? Using egg whites along with yolk that is
Thank you Jamie, love what you do. Thank you for teaching me all the tricks& methods in the kitchen.
Wishing you & your family a splendid Christmas and a spectacular new year. 🇦🇺🎅🏻🎁🎊
Yes, with bread pudding. Thank you for this video!

Omg! That looks scrumptious!! 😛😋
Woooow yummi!!!!!! Thank you so much!!!!! Loveit!!! From Argentina big hug!!!!!💛
Today you made my favourite food Mr. Oliver 😀 .. I love you all the more 😍😍😍
I never put vanilla beans or any kind of aroma in my light custard and it tastes absolutely scrumptious!!!
Hallo Dear Jamie Oliver ! I love all your Recipes, you are so down to Earth . I love you . God bless you and your Family. 😘😊❤👏🏻👌🏻🍀❤️and I got many Books from your cooking . Thank you .
awesome recipe
This looks so delicious 💕🤤and not that hard to make!
Mate, I will never eat a store bought Custard or the Custard made from powder hereafter. This is heaven. Thank you for this.
I love Jamie Oliver 😍 such a goodlookig man :D
Deeelicious 😋made this just now to go with bread pudding
I grew up with my mum making seriously thick Bird's custard. Much as I love the real thing I always find that when people make real egg custard it always looks a bit thin for my taste. I'm weird I suppose but I don't want to simply put a line through the back of the spoon to check that it's done, it's done when the spoon can stand unaided in the custard which I suppose is technically crème pâtissière lol.
Quickblood1 lol...i dont bother making custards because of bird's custard which i have been eating since i was really young, but i might give his a go.
The real thing is amazing. Honestly it will ruin your enjoyment of the cheap powdered stuff but I can't recommend that you continue not knowing the joys of real egg custard.
Quickblood1 I honestly think jamie did a bad job with this custard, if you reduce the amounts of liquids and add a little bit more corn starch you will get a thicker custard. What he did just looks like a sauce.
Toni Stark If you look at other custard recipes or creme anglaise ones they're all surprisingly thin IMHO. Perhaps it's a chef thing but I suspect those of us that grew up on the cheap stuff expect it a bit thicker. I mean look how thick the ready made stuff is, that's closer to my preference.
the other thing to look out for is that it is straight off the stove and piping hot. most custards will thicken even more once cooled. mine does all the time and its made from scratch 😊 the other thing to note is using milk and thin cream. lets be honest, who thinks of healthier alternatives to custard anyway?? 😂
You make it look so easy
This looks delicious! We'll try it here in Thailand
if you didn't find the recipe on his website, see here:
serves about 6 people
500 ml single cream
500ml milk
5 tbsp sugar
8 egg yolks
vanilla
optional: 1 tsp corn flower
warm milk and cream on the stove. add vanilla to pot and let simmer for 5 minutes.
whisk sugar with egg yolks until its pale and silky, if you want you can now add corn flower and mix it in.
take a little of the hot milk and whisk it into the egs to temper them. then add the mixture to the rest of the milk in the pot.
keep stirring in figures of 8 for 2-4 minutes. check the consistency by running your finger over the back of the spoon and if it leaves a nice clean line, it's perfect
Wish it was possible to copy from either UA-cam and or comments
Thanks for the written recipe
Thanks Jamie for sharing all these Videos. Can you please post a video of making the best Burger Buns Recipe 😉
This video make me so happy😁
Amazing 😍 family favourite ♥️
Ten out of ten! Custard of beauty ! 💛
If custard could blush, it would be blushing right now. What a compliment!
Jamie Oliver 💛🕊🌿
Jamie you inspire me
Bean custard is very yummy.
Food king you have done so mutch for the world :)
I've been a fan of Jamie since early Naked Chef days. This is the first time I really noticed his gorgeous baby blues. Custard is good, too.
This is the video I never knew I needed ❤️
Oh that looks so good right about now, which is anytime!
It's always a good time for custard!
Can I have some fish sticks with this?
Need that apple crumble video!
Thank you 😊 love ❤️ you Jamie and عاشت ايدك I can't say it in English I will do it thanks 🙏🏻 🌺👌🏻😂👍🏻

Vanilla bean is like pure gold in my house...every recipe that calls for vanilla, I use the bean... matter of fact I use pure grounded vanilla bean .. much easier and less expensive too ...what a difference. . Once you use the pure vanilla bean, you'll never go back to the extract...
very tasteful. ....
Thanks Jamie, That might serve 6-8 People but it wont even fill up 1 Teletubbie tummy.
Hey. Love the recipe! What's the specific name and version of that pan? I can't seem to find it in the UK... The linked Tefal site doesn't seem to have it on either.
Adding half stick of butter in the end ,will lift this custard to the next delicious level
you are the best jamie
Instead of just showing the pans and stuff he uses them to make something delicious - so I don't mind if the video is paid or not, it's still a great recipe! thanks a lot for sharing!
Aw - thanks Nani! So glad you like it x
Yes and if they are genuinely good quality then I am happy to hear about them.
Really delicious & gorgeous..My mouth is watering.🙏💐❤️
Pro tips: you can simply cream the yolks with sugar/starch and add your cold milk/cream right into them. Then bring everything up to precisely 170-180F (77C-82C)--this is the temperature at which diluted egg proteins will thicken. Guess-work isn't required, you just need a quick-read thermometer.
"This will make enough for 6-8 people depending on how generous you are"
Sounds good 4 people it is! 😂
Make it 2 😉
That is a great looking vanilla custard.
Thank you!
mmm very veerrry delicious jamie
Its new for me to see this warm custard we always eat it cold
Could i cool this and use it as a base for ice cream in a churner?
World best chef ❤love from Pakistan
Nice to see Jamie not crying
i love your job
Hi Jamie we loved our 1st day at your ministry of food in Geelong, we are doing the 4 day school hols course from Steph and Rose
great job, Mr. Jamie. I was making custard just now but didnt have the corn starch / corn flour but I just used all purpose flour and cooked it a bit longer. Its okay. Is single cream the same as half and half in the states?
Fun Fact: A Platypus is the only animal that can make its own custard.
ricky gervais told you this
Better to disperse the corn starch into the sugar & beat into the yolks first, then add the cream mixture to this while mixing. It creates a better emulsion and consistency.
Looks so....
GOOOOOODDD!!!!!!!!!!!! 💝💝💝
jamie looks better the older he gets.
Ageing like a fine wine 😉
You can actually see the woman comming through now "he" starts to age. The hormone treatment doesnt work good anymore!
so does the custard
@@jimdim1010 Lmao, not even a brain transplant can cure your stupidity
Stop that
Thank you!
lots of love for food tube and jamie🇬🇧
Big love Joseph!
Hi Jamie. I dont know if you’re going to answer this or not haha. May I just ask, what should we do if the custard splits? You’re reply will be very much appreciated 😁
Hey just wanted to thank you for your cool videos
and one question: Are you cleaning up your kitchen on your own ?
Of course 😉
EIGHT YOLKS
YOU GOTTA BE KIDDING
We're not yolking
Jamie Oliver ok lol thx for the recipe
Love the reply :D
Haha very good Gordon
I could eat just the custard without anything else 😋
Can't wait to use a real vanilla bean. Thanks Jamie. And I'll never forget when you made an Elvis Burger!!
Yes! Me love custard
3:33 I believe you were supposed to say fish fingers instead of apple crumble.
Doh - how could we make such a mistake?
Can I use vanilla extract in place of vanilla pods?
