Hi Mark. There is one Yamazaki 12yo, I hope to get, and that is the Yamazaki 12yo Pure Malt. All I have in my whisky library is the Single Malt. The inflated prices of Japanese whisky, especially those with an age statement, is unsettling. While we have watched the price of it go up, way before the pandemic, I am sure many people just couldn't justify purchasing some expressions now. Let me give you an idea, I purchased three bottles of the Taketsuru 17yo Pure Malt back in 2018, and I paid only $199.99 USD per bottle. Looking on Wine Searcher it now ranges $590 to 1000 USD. The Yamazaki 12year shouldn't reach that high since the vailability is fairly stable, but it is still priced high for a 12yo. Nevertheless, I would still think it would be a good purchase, at least once, for many whisk(e)y enthusiasts. But the important thing with inflated prices, the best way to go is 'try before you buy', if the opportunity is there. Good review Mark!
Hi Andrew! For sure that would be an epic bottle to have for any enthusiast chasing unicorns! If I saw one at a decent price I would probably think strongly about getting it. So true about prices - I guess especially after Taketsuru was discontinued. Well done getting some beforehand! Cheers my friend🥃🥃🥃🥃
@@WhiskyWhistle Hi Mark. I actually purchased the 17yo Taketsuru knowing that they will be scarce; however, I didn't buy them as an investment. I plan to enjoy and appreciate them through consumption. I have seen the Yamazaki 12yo Pure Malt in videos by Japanese youtubers, and I have seen them in secondary shops in Tokyo. I just cannot justify, at this time, paying such inflatetd prices a bottle. What they are now, I would have to go and check a video. Let's just say, I would rather apply basic "opportunity cost" and spend my money on other opportunities. Cheers!
I had not heard of that Pure Malt until now. On the other hand, the Yamazaki 12 is one of my preferred Single Malts. I do not buy it anymore because of availability and ridiculous overpricing.
Hi Lorenz! It’s a fabulous malt, Yamazaki 12. Price is definitely an issue, but I suppose the Suntory people assume it’s neck and neck with Mac 12 and probably peg the export price to it. This 1991 is a wild ride!! Maybe not worth the ticket price but fun nonetheless. Cheers my friend🥃🥃🥃🥃
@@WhiskyWhistle Macallan 12 Sherry Oak can be had in SoCal for as low as 80 USD. The Yamasaki 12 will start at $249 if you can find a bottle. Santé 🥃!!!
To drink? Probably not. If I were a Yamazaki fanboy, then, maybe. To speculate? Only if you already see it trending. If so, get three, and sell two, and drink the 3rd. Cheers🥃🥃🥃🥃
Thank you for popping that vintage and sharing it with all of us.... cheers Mark!
Thanks Mike! Cheers🥃🥃🥃🥃
