Amazing video as ever Mac with loads of great background information. Wish the current Hibiki was selling at that £35 in the UK. Not sure if would trust slapping that old bottle though...
Nice work Mac and appreciate your extensive research. The first Hibiki I picked up was the 17yo some time around 2017. Price was 20,000¥. A highly pleasurable drop though as they say, all good things come to an end. Like yourself, if only we could go back in time. In March 2019, I picked up a bottle of Blenders Choice in Kyoto. If given a choice of NAS, much prefer the Harmony Select.
The Master's Select Duty Free bottles seem to be a hit. I'll have to subject one to review at some point. Blender's Choice is another devisive one. I'll also save my analysis for a video. Thanks for your kind words. Please share these videos far and wide. That would mean a lot to me. 🙏
Great content! I was so impressed when I saw their 響 logo, when I was young.(I couldn’t taste it at that moment) We used to make Highball with Hibiki at our restaurant with reasonable price for many years. I can hardly believe this now. Kanpai 🥃
One of the best whisky bars on Earth! Thanks for watching and commenting. I'd love your support in sharing these videos far and wide and helping spread the word about Aloha Whisky and Kanpai Planet!

Thanks for watching! Please help me out and share the video with all your friends. As for Hibiki Blender's Choice... I'll add it to the pipeline. Stay tuned
Thank you very much for your kind comment and for watching! The low alcohol whisky had its time in the sun, but that time is gone... although with the boom in zero and low-alcohol spirits maybe it will make a comeback?!
Thank you! You've arrived at the right time. There is no a huge amount to explore on Kanpai Planet. Check out the playlists too if you want to binge thematically. If you can, please consider supporting the channel at buymeacoff.ee/kanpaiplanet Highly appreciated. Kanpai!
Great review, thanks! I'd like to try the Harmony but I haven't seen it for less than $85 (in NY). Not sure if that has to do w hype, supply or both but I'm hesitant. Cheers!
A mix for those things, plus tax differences, distribution costs and other factors. Hopefully you find a pour at a bar for a reasonable price. Thanks for watching, and Kanpai!

State of the Art review, Mac, I couldn't do better on the background explanations about the story of this expression (except maybe I'll mention like in the picture you did show in the end that part of the content might not be Japanese but sourced, but I'm not sure about that, what do you think ?). I'm also "jealous" (if I may say, I'm never really jealous, I'm happy my friends have access to those whiskies) or shall I say rather curious...Now about the "current" Hibiki nas I have to say the even the launch retail price in France was twice the 40 € you mentioned (I know you did extrapolate from Japanese price so no big deal) or so, and now reaches 100 € & is not sold everywhere....This video has been included, like many of yours in my World Whiskies video playlist of my channel, just to let you know...Kanpaï & keep on bringing us great content, love it !
Thanks always for your insightful questions. Suntory say the current Hibiki is 100% Japanese Whisky. As for pricing, you are correct - I'm just letting people know the RRP in Japan so they have a guage for when they buy it in their country or on the secondary market. That way they can assess value relative to home market suggested retail pricing. Thanks for adding the video to the playlist! I'm honoured!
@@KanpaiPlanet You're very welcome....Ok that is an interesting point, so that means most probably they experienced different recipes from their 3 distilleries or managed to get stuff from other Japanese distilleries (which I doubt except for the most recent period, as you said in several videos). Sure, great idea, to give us the local price, and maybe for people able to travel there...Your success is deserved !
Given they are Suntory, they will definitely not be sourcing from any other distilleries in Japan except their own. I'm still praying for that collab with Nikka though 🤓!
The first thing I did when I opened my Yamazaki 12..was take time and sniff..it was primal, almost instinctual action that doesn’t happen with any other.
@@KanpaiPlanet thanks Mac , i asked because i got one few months ago , it's unopened yet , but shouder level about 60% only , i understand it was kept for long time
It's a good question my friend. I have had a few messages from people who actually own the bottle, like yourself, and it seems the shlouder levels vary a huge amount, from about 90% to about 55%! The cork Suntory used seems to have not done the best job over 30 years, so it really depends on the storage conditions the different bottles have been kept in.
@@KanpaiPlanet somebody is offering me 500 eur for my bottle of hibiki 17. Hard to decide if to sell. Future quality will probably be less. Maybe the old ones will keep their Value.
Hi Pierre. Thanks for your comment. It's a nice design, but it's Hibiki Japanese Harmony inside, so the video would be a review of the standard Hibiki.
Another great video. Keep them coming, thank you! (off to have a dram of my own bottle of this now!)
Kanpai! Glad I could inspire you! Thank you for watching, and enjoy the first Hibiki!

Also am in love with that Ben Nevis logo in the background.
I was under orders that there was to be no slapping!
Awesome detailed review as usual. Keep up the good work! 👍🏽

Great video! Really interesting to see the flavour drift over the years.
It was a fascinating analysis for sure! Thanks for watching!
The modern Hibiki Japanese Harmony is amazing. The 1989 Hibiki is better? That is saying ALOT! I need to find this bottle!
Good luck on your quest. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Habiki is a work of art...soo much detail and beautiful bottles. 😊
Lots of symbolism for sure! 🥃🥃🥃
Wow. Nice. I just started reviewing some Hibiki. Very interesting but so expensive.
Glad you're enjoying the Hibikis. Sadly Premium Japanese Whisky is not the cheapest thing in the world! Thanks for watching!

Fine video with lots of great facts orientated masterfully, but left wondering if Japan has the low alcohol whisky as a beverage in common use.
