- Today we pressure wash the COE to see how bad the rust really is. I also need to free up a frozen brake so I can unload the truck. Thanks for watching!

I was researching Mackemer Lumber to see if the company still existed and found your Facebook group post asking old locals for info. It was interesting to see the sibling of the sign painter who probably lettered the doors chime in. It would be cool if someone had an old photo of this COE in its glory years! Good luck with the build. I share your love for this style truck
It was pretty cool to hear some of the history. I was surprised how big the McBroom family (who bought out Mackemer) is in that area and their presence in the lumber industry. I love the history so I want to preserve some of that in this build.
Hey mate, wanted to say hello from Australia. We're watching along on you're build. Really appreciate your time and effort with the videos..much appreciated 👍🙏💪
Thanks for watching!
The Dooley will work better on the Truck it’s gonna look nice thank you again for sharing have a blessed day.
I think you’re like me…
When you’re recording videos, you keep your voice down so the neighbours don’t think you’re crazy, talking to yourself.
Good luck with the truck. Looks challenging!
So true! I don’t know why they already think I’m crazy lol. Still trying to get used to talking to myself.
The bottom numbers are the phone number from back in the day. Nice truck 🎉. Definitely a modern chassis with single rear wheels.
I just discovered your channel, sir. I am in the middle of a '49 GMC COE (low dollar, no-rush, just someday drive and enjoy it style) project myself, so watching you pan the camera around on the patient is mostly a familiar sight. I think a lot of my sheet metal is (mostly) in better condition than what you're working with, so I'm happy to take close up pictures and send them your way for reference, like the trailing edge of your fender tops. I'm committed to keeping the original frame, but I understand the logic of your frame swap decision.
This will definitely be a low budget build. Check out my latest video on the frame I found for it. Unfortunately this frame is really rusted on the back half. Thanks for offering to take pictures. I have found a couple of trucks locally I can make a template.
Fantastic idea o the driveshaft brake! Shes going to be a challenge for sure.
Cheers
Terry
I would try to save the lettering and the paint and have it lettered in the original name of the lumber company and put a wood flatbed on the back maybe with steak pockets and removable side rails like you was going to haul some Lumber
That’s pretty much what I’m thinking 🤔
@@wallysworkin823 it is going to be a cool build
Morning Everyone! I am excited to see what You do with this wonderful Truck. When your Sister in-laws Truck is finished of course.
It’s great that pickup body panels fit. How would it look as a five window?
I would look good but this truck really isn’t worth putting that kind of work into.
That's one of my Dream Trucks is a COE ROLLBACK TRUCK 😂😂😂
Modern dually forsure
Cheapest thing you can Buy is a C model Motorhome Van Front end n just put your Cab on it
I can’t find one reasonably priced. Plus it needs to be i believe 97 and newer, the older Chevy’s are unibody.
@@wallysworkin823 my friend used a Diesel Isuzu box truck n take cab off n box off n I'd use box for my parts storage 😆 n make it a Ramp truck or Rollback
Watching this, I'm glad I work on little cars. I don''t even own a sledgehammer, nor have I ever needed one. Aside from major subassemblies, there's hardly anything I can't lift by myself; and I'm and old man.
Aren't those threaded holes in the face of the drum for inserting bolts to force the drum off?
Everything was so badly rusted I wasn’t able to do that.
Turn it into a dry van with freezing cold air , also sunset view windows for 115 degrees you got in summer
You win for the most interesting idea 😂
Should have sprayed power blaster on the wheel ! Eats rust !
Yes i think you are on the right track with a frame swap, catch you on the next one
Thanks!
One ton dually would be great. You could go so many directions with that platform!
Check out my latest video!
Silas, at "Adventures Made From Scratch" Probably has your grille, and dash parts, including the gauges. He's got all kinds of farm truck stuff.
I’ll check them out thanks.
He's certainly cut a lot of them up 😮
I personally would have lubricated the drum and wheel studs in wd40 gone for a coffee come back and tap off wheels no cracked brake drum no workout needed .
I started spraying penetrating oil in the drum on my way home from Illinois, they were rusted pretty bad lol. I didn’t mind the workout!
The Cab will look good on a RV frame..
That’s what it is getting!
oh the fun !
You could copy the lettering to reproduce after restoration.
A big pickup would probly deliver greatest utility.
There is a 1958 Mackemer calendar for sale on EBay. 🙂
If it were me I would use a 3500 or a little bigger dually chevy truck frame the 1 ton dually van frame might to. Its going to look great either way you do it
That’s the plan, I prefer a van because it’s nice and flat front to back.
A nice big block and automatic would move that nicely...
Check out my latest video 👍
Canada says use an hydraulic jack
Turbo hydromatic 425
How about if you lifted the body off the frame and send it out to be blasted then pulled the motor
Two steps forward three steps back
clean the dash up, put some phosphoric acid on it to fight the rust and do normal body work, a rust primer or paint and it will be fine.
It looks like a candidate for Kyle Carter, but perhaps it's not rusty enough. I sympathise with you over the diesel cost, but be thankful that you don't live here in the U.K. where it costs more than £1.50 per litre. From the way you describe your plans, it seems as though the cab is about the only part of the vehicle you are intending to keep; it's a pity that you had to haul back so many heavy parts that you don't need. Best wishes.
Most likely the cab is all I will use, we will see. I will try to retain most of it’s “patina” at this point, there is a cool backstory to this truck I will share in the future. Thanks for watching.
Just looking at the COE, why didn't you just put modern axels off of a 3500 on it ? And use the frame the truck has ?
The back half is pretty rusty, upper rails are really thin.
I remember in the 90s you could buy those for $200 BUT NOT NOW huh
Yeah they seem to be all over the place price wise.
It's weeping rust. Nice project truck, though.
Unfortunately, yes. It will work for what I want to do.
Is sandblaster used for this truck?
You will do sansbalser
No sand blast.
aren't you going to make a big pickup truck i've seen a few of them made into pickup and i think they are neater than helll????
Yes, either a pickup or flatbed haven’t decided yet.
You do not need a Cardiologis for sure!
😂
What about a 4 Door Panel Van?
That is a possibility.
What did you figure out on the 57 doors
I’m working on it, stay tuned.
Is the frame really that far gone?
The back rails are really rusted and thin.
How much you pay for that
Free 99, my wife’s family member gave it to me but it cost me $1100 in fuel.
Oh that's Awesome huh n that's funny that she was laughing at it n it came from her family 😆
Show your wife what your going to build n show her how much they are worth when finished n builts like $50,000 & Up over $100,000 for like a Rollback style
She only sees money going out 😂
If you have a similar vehicle close by, and a willing owner, you could make a shape pattern for the cab : ua-cam.com/video/44tSonYPz-w/v-deo.html
That is what I was thinking about. Just need to find one around me, can’t remember the last time I saw one of these trucks in Phoenix.
Is having a audience your goal, or building a truck, I would love to see the truck build, not have to hear you talk to yourself, this is not a how to videos, it's how you built your truck, sorry I just can't stand all the unnecessary talking, once again I mean to be rude 🙄
It’s all good! I will try to keep it to a minimum. Thanks.
@@wallysworkin823
Please keep it going just like you are. It’s also in the journey for sure.
If you don’t want to hear anything while watching these videos just turn down your volume.
Holy smoke, Wally was working! This should be cool build. Gotta love to hate the power of rust. 🫵🏼💯🆒
It’s worth it.
Take it back to where you got it from,
Not a chance
