Another method, is when you get film footage, marker each scene in the footage, and figure out the tempo of each scene in the footage, by Time warp tool. You just go through the entire footage and adjust the grid for each scene, before you even start writing.
Once you have established the tempo of each scene and adjusted the grid across the entire footage, you now have everything lined up grid wise, and you can write accordingly, knowing the entire footage and every scene is already grid tempo established.
If you feel the tempo changes are too drastic and you want to write across 5 scenes, but the tempo is too drastic, you can always have a signature track added, and change the time signature in parts, as a workaround, to smooth out drastic tempo changes.
Example being: in scene 1 > time sig = 4/4, scene 2 > time sig = 3/4 etc...

Hi 41, there is another way to do this for those that do not have Cubase. In the upper versions of Melodyne, you can do this instead...
Convert the midi track to audio and edit that new track with Melodyne; when Melodyne has finished computing you will find the Tempo widget pulsing. You then use the little drop down menu from that widget to select the option that reads something like "tempo between x and y". You then import that tempo track into your DAW. Works great in Studio One. If you have a lot of material it will be a lot quicker than the method you show here.

I have a piece of mine but it is in audio but if i transpose it to midi notes is not what i had before.I use Studio One 5.3 Pro of Presonus and i don"t know if there is an analog solution maybe with timer etc.Thank you!!!

I am confused... What prevents quantizing the entire piece and then "humanizing" the entirety? Am I missing something?

Hi, if you just use quantize the notes will be moved with no regard to the context around them. using the warp tool the notes are moved in a Much more musical way. humanizing is also moving notes in a pure random fashion with no regard to other notes.

I use tempo detection function first to get grid roughly in place before manually adjusting the grid. This saves time especially with longer midi files. How do you get midi notes show the playback?

@@41Fingers In your video, when you playback the piano sketch, midi notes turn black when playback cursor hits them. i dont have that in my cubase 11.

@@41Fingers Also with tempo detection there may be some "quantization" effects happening to the midi notes, so be careful to listen back the part that you use tempo detection.
