Cubase Quick Tip - Use Audio Warp to Time Align Vocals

  • I demonstrate how to use the Audio Warp function in Cubase to time align a vocal take. I got the vocal from a sample pack so it didn't match the beat to my production.
First I create an anchor point from whatever is working, then I move outward, progressively time aligning bit by bit.

You can do the bounce selection thing with the range tool now. Just select a range that you want and Bounce In Place. It's the same functionality, but provides a faster workflow because it's less steps.

Thanks for that - very useful. I was afraid of those warp points, but I can see how they work now. 👍

Great tip, thank you. You took an eternity to decide what you wanted. stop the playback, count, mark the tempo with your hand snapping your fingers, decide in which beat you want the ssssss then the low, low, down and then just put it there.

So if my Trance project is 140BPM and I have used a song/vocal at 125BPM, I can tweak it with Warp and not using "Musical Mode" ?
Since musical-mode would put the vocal aligned but it would also make the vocal "faster".
What is the way to do it?

Great video, very useful and help for me as a newbie. I see you wave form look fuzzy in the middle, mine also are like this, what causes it to be like that, do you know.

Just don't bounce a selection with the wrong algorithm (losing your markers).. oy... learned that the hard way.

Warp alignment of tracks wit each other is a lotta work cuz U can't put m all in
the sample editor @ 1s and U can't link Zoom of both windows.
Only feature dat was solved betta in otha DAWs where U can warp/flex in the arrangement window + multiple tracks @ da same time if U want.

There is any way to time warp the audio as it was before in cubase? I mean, for example, stretch the entire file from 128 to 130 bpm, and so just stretch the bar from the lower right corner to the same size of the other sample

In ableton you can just select the BPM you want and it just renders the entire audio track. Is this not possible in Cubase?

How do you figure out tempo from vocal recording?

How did you delete the free warp, I can’t find an eraser in Cubase pro 10

On a PC it's holding down SHIFT or ALT or CTRL + click (you'll notice the icon chances to an eraser)

Wouldn't warping degrade the audio quality, altering phase relations and transients, even at slight stretching?

    • @VintiqueSound
      @VintiqueSound  5 років тому

"Degrade audio quality" is a relative issue I'd say. A common thing to do is to degrade drum samples by reducing bit rate, but it gives you what you want, namely, added distortion/harmonics and bite in the mix. There's many more examples like this. I don't know the measurable amount that this degrades audio, but in my normal use of it over the years I have never come across anything that changed the underlying audio, at least not in any meaningful way.

Tempo detection is not available in Elements or Artist, you need the Pro version. VariAudio (pitch warp) likewise is only available in the Pro version of Cubase.

Jeez just think for a minute what is the rhythm you want and align it to the grid to do so, instead of "Just tweaking and keep tweaking"
