Going by what he's saying Shakespeare, Dostoevsky , Tolstoy, Hemmingway etc were a waste of time while they all are considered the greatest writers of all time , Self-help book authors are shifting the narrative to encourage people to read self-help books for expanding the market otherwise it's the other way around, self-help books are a waste of time , first of all while reading a self-help book you cannot enter the psyche of the writer and identify his thought process , so you cannot replicate him and if you cannot replicate him then how will you replicate his teachings, and count the number of Rich dad poor dad books sold and how many readers actually became rich 😂, see there are a few genuine self-help books but only a limited number otherwise the market is flooded with no help providing self-help books giving no value to the reader in the long run

I recommend people to read Philosophy. That's where all kinds of rationally objective and subjective questions arise
It will develop your critical thinking in the grand scheme of things
    You won't need self-help books.
I would also recommend fiction for the simple reason that Einstein told us that imagination is broader and more important than knowledge
    Knowledge comes from imagination.

Fiction is something which holds the power to bring a revolution in this world .
Remember French revolution ? Indian revolts? In both the cases fire of independence was put on by writers. They were not self help books but stories and autobiographies .
Self help books are really good but fiction can be someones comfort place . Fiction makes you feel any emotion you are lacking .

Poor vision or victim like vision.
We all start with differents cards in hands. However, to be successful, the recipe is always the same : act, learn, never give up, never stop to improve, you'll be above the others. Money will come. Maybe it will take you more time if you start with nothing in the middle of nowhere, but if you learn to read and have access to internet or library, it's up to you to become a beast or to stay common. There is nothing wrong to stay average as long as it allows you to have the lifestyle you want.
Luck can help to save time, but if you are a poor human, you will get poor financially again. If you have a rich state of mind, you will be rich financially.
People who stated the kind of things you said rather waste their time to complain than take actions.
I hope that you'll create a business one day or manage a bunch of people in a company, understanding the cost of labor and the work that had be done by your boss that allowed him to hire you and give you a decent salary (even if you want more).
The "bad / selfish" boss exist. They confirm the rules.
Have a good life my dear.
