Even a dystopian society produces billionaires. Whereas thinkers gave us relief from evils like sati, apartheid, slavery, discrimination between and among humans.
Fiction helps us improve original thinking, imagination and creativity which fostered the above.

Going by what he's saying Shakespeare, Dostoevsky , Tolstoy, Hemmingway etc were a waste of time while they all are considered the greatest writers of all time , Self-help book authors are shifting the narrative to encourage people to read self-help books for expanding the market otherwise it's the other way around, self-help books are a waste of time , first of all while reading a self-help book you cannot enter the psyche of the writer and identify his thought process , so you cannot replicate him and if you cannot replicate him then how will you replicate his teachings, and count the number of Rich dad poor dad books sold and how many readers actually became rich 😂, see there are a few genuine self-help books but only a limited number otherwise the market is flooded with no help providing self-help books giving no value to the reader in the long run
