Not just reading. Learning! After I started taking Spanish lessons, chemistry lab classes, genetics, 3D design courses, reading and meditating daily, my cognitive skills have improved drastically. I can deep dive into complex matters at a rate I found impossible before. I am just able to learn and retain information a lot more effectiently. The learning process in itself is addicting. Learning new skills and stacking them eventually evolves into some sublime abilities.

I'm glad that Elon is using his fame responsibly and intelligently. He's right about the importance of a question. Thinking starts with curiosity, then is formed into a question, lastly an answer, after much, much thought and research.
Silly questions and bad questions have the effect of steering the whole process into oblivion. Knee jerk responses to questions you never spent serious time contemplating kill good questions if you had one and show an undisciplined mind.
Most people spend no real effort thinking systematically, repetitively, seeking ideas, theories, analyzing weaknesses and strengths to arrive at an answer worth mentioning. For those in our world who do, they are the ones pushing the progress of the human race along against the stubborn mass holding it still.
Elon is a true intellectual. He is like Einstein, Hubble, Newton, Sagan, Copernicus, Galileo, Pasteur, Currie, Napoleon, Charlemagne and even Caesar. These people and others weren't just leaders or generals or politicians, sages, seers or popular figures. Their most important trait was deep thinking, which set them apart from most of the rest of the human race during their lives.
It starts with curiosity. And peeks into existence with a great, pointed, well conceived question. Lacking that you have nothing but a potential for wasting time and effort.

Not everybody has a reading-friendly environment at home. Some children don't get exposed to reading until they start school. You don't need to have a love affair with reading because you're not going to like everything you read in school or in life. The question is, how do you read something you don't like. It takes skills! Love? Learning how to learn is a process that includes reading and writing. Each child shows a different pattern in the process. This doesn't happen with multiple-choice tests and activities from google. Cut and paste activities lead to fragmented thinking. One of my high school students explained why her former history teacher was the best. She was so good at explaining the chapters you didn't have to read the chapter. She also provided fun activities. Sometimes, she would read the chapter to us so we could understand it better. High School? In my 37 years of teaching history, I saw this. Good Luck?

Another thing Elon said that people are going to underestimate the importance of the ability to correctly predict the future. This is a personal ability I've worked on and am quite good at. Yes, I can hear the obligatory mental strain that produces when read. Not a hard prediction. The fact is that being able to accurately predict is important.
The process is based on mental discipline, knowledge and eliminating the habitual tendencies which make predictions unreliable and wrong. Being able to accurate predict the future is a tool, just a tool, but one leading to understanding and efficiency. Which explains Elon very well.

Reading is important but one factor I hear few people talk about is how books are protected information and what I mean by that is that once a book is written and you physically own it than the information inside of it cannot be changed. In a world full of censorship and attacks on free speech owning a physical book allows you to protect knowledge from said censorship as they cannot destroy or change the information without physically breaking into your home. If the info is on the internet they can edit something and gaslight people into thinking it was always like that or they can block certain info from being obtained. I hope we still have books 1000s years from now because without them we will be closer to living in a Orwellen future.

I listened to part of a lecture on UA-cam describing psociopaths and malignant narcissists much the same way. It is easy for people to forget those on the autistic spectrum, with ADHD, anxiety disorders, abuse survivors, etc display many of the same mannerisms. People really do need to learn to think before they act. The misunderstandings between people before they even know one another can potentially do more damage than those between family and friends. Judge not lest you be judged.

    For my German speaking friends:
My problem with Reading is I hate the process.
Learning to read was a nightmare.
And now when I go to read a book I want to stop because I remember the nightmare of Learning to read.

It surely depends on the social environment you're in.
Around me and in my social circle the most financially and socially successful individuals are those who never opened a book and are proud of it.
In such a milieu reading is looked upon with contempt, and great readers, no matter how well educated they are, are bullied, mocked and seen as big losers, unless reading brings them a practical value in terns of money.

    • @TorMax9

It's all about the money, man! Who cares about those silly philosophical or fundamental, ethical or aesthetic, spiritual or soul questions? Just keep the greenbacks rolling in and f*ck the rest! Outsmart the other guy. It's a dog-eat-dog world. And Jesus replied: "What profits a man to gain the world but lose his soul?" Yeah, but can Jesus help you make more money? Perhaps if you're a fast-talking preacher and you start your own televised mega-church...

You gain knowledge through books become intelligent and then go against reading, people will consider you more knowledgeable than you are, they will go to an extent listening to your absurd argument or thinking, reading is a must,it keeps your mind active and you gain something from it,there is no loss actually.

Elon Musk inspired me with his words, " space 🚀🚀 is the answer".
We need really to expand, explore and discover the universe, it's the only way forward. We need a technological break through in transportations and the advancement of our ability to travel faster, better fuel sources.......that's the only way.

I had the same problem. After reading the encyclopedia, I re-read the fiction books I had already read before. The reasons were the same: I always enjoyed reading, national TV was terrible, I lived in a small apartment, didn't have many toys, not internet... there wasn't much left to do, so I read.
I am sure many people were/are in the same situation. The big difference is that most of us are not billionaires like Elon! LOL 🥲

  • @cesartomas7639
    @cesartomas7639 3 роки тому +2

I don´t think life is that difficult to understand, however people like Musk have the power to do something about it and go beyond limits. That´s the problem, people live and die. Races have their era. There is nature and a ecosystem we can appreciate it, we do it by the gift of the present. There ´s a cause and consequence for everything. A individual lives by his decisions and the love he or she shares to their neighbor. If you can´t mix with those two, then life will always be miserable no matter you go to Mars or Neptune. People ll never run out of problems and suffering unless they decide to, as individuals and society. There are countries, undeveloped ones mostly, who are wea as individuals so they depend too much on others. There others more developed, where people are too proud and themselves, selfish and won´t care about others well being. In my opinion the world needs balance. That´ ll really change the world and doesn´t require a 200 IQ.
