Kingpin appearing here is quite a big deal. Not only is he one of Spider-Man's biggest enemies, but he is played by Vincent D'Onofrio who played the character in Netflix's Daredevil series
Kingpin’s only superpower is that he is basically unkillable. Nothing fantastic. Nothing flashy. Just brute force and he is unstoppable. We’ll see him again.
Yes, Jack was the giant red herring of this series and I loved it! "The Swordsman" from the comics was such a huge threat and they played that off beautifully. Better than the reveal of The Mandarin as Trevor Slattery. (Which I have also come to appreciate so much more)
The great thing about it, is that unlike watching the MCU with some comic knowledge, even figuring out that this is the MCU version of the Swordsman, you can still think he might be the villain, because he started off that way in the comics, but then you could think he's going to be an ally, because he did later become an Avenger. So my guesses kept switching back and forth. And he played it great with the big ego, but still being very charming at the same time.

Yelena treating Kate like a little sister is even more meaningful when you think about the fact that she recently (to her) lost her own sister. It kinda mirrors how Natasha always wanted to protect Yelena.
Yeah the 'netflix' series are on Disney+ now too, Daredevil, Jessica Jones and punisher are all worth a watch if nothing else (although that is still 8 series)
so much of the scene between Kate and Yelena was actually improvised, like the foodstuff. Also, we definitely need a spinoff with Kate & Yelena, as the new Hawkeye/Black Widow, they have such great on-screen chemistry.

I think it's amusing the way the show's writers managed to homage Hawkeye's comic book origins with Jack. Jaques Duquesne, aka, the Swordsman was a reformed villain who trained Hawkeye in the comics. As for Kingpins "death", what's that old saying? No body, no death.

This specific Kingpin is in Daredrvil the series. Vincent D'Onofrio in that series is so fantastic as Kingpin and let's you sympathize with him while also being terrified by him. Brilliantly acted
I really appreciate that he’s not TOO sympathetic. He’s definitely a character who should be feared and it’s good they don’t try to redeem him or anything.
One of the best villains in the MCU and they absolutely disrespected him in this series, turning him into a big punching bag, and not very frightening. So unfortunate after seeing him utilized brilliantly in the Daredevil series.
One thing I love about Kate in the last episode is that she was being considerate about Clint wanting to return home to his family. At the same time, she had to earn his approval to becoming his partner. On a side note, Maya will return in her own series titled Echo. That's her superhero codename.
She is probably just going to be called “Hawkeye” in the comic this series is based on, Kate and Clint have a running joke about both being named Hawkeye, so they keep going “nice shot Hawkeye! Well thank you Hawkeye. No problem Hawkeye”
"What are you made of!?" While Kingpin's bulk is often used as an excuse for him being incredibly durable (fun fact: he's only got 2% body fat), in the MCU his clothes are all made of a super-fancy armor fabric invented by a character from the Daredevil Netflix series.

I think the scene where Hailey Steinfeld helps Hawkeye talk to his family was so well acted without words, it's where the character realizes how much her actions have affected Clint and his family, and as you pointed out, something she never learned from her mother. It's a more integral scene to the series than it's given credit for, IMO.
@@KS-xk2so Some people talk about not liking this show, and while I see that it's a bit uneven, it's hard for me to understand how you could come down on not liking it. Maybe it wasn't great top-to-bottom, but the elements that worked 1 - Kate and Clint's dynamic was *fantastic* 2 - Kate and Yelena's dynamic was fun 3 - The hearing impaired parts (I can think of two off the top of my head - the flight away from Maya, when Clint keeps reiterating that he can't hear her "I assume you're on board" "we should let the dog out" etc, as well as the phone call scene - although you can throw in a few parts where Clint and Maya interact, however briefly) were SO good 4 - Jack being such a weird off-putting guy then eventually just a dork was great worked so damn well. I just enjoyed the hell out of this show.

The logo on the watch is the SHIELD logo and it’s implying that Laura is the SHIELD agent Mockingbird! Also, Kingpin is from the Daredevil show, like how Daredevil was in Spider-man NWH

I totally agree with your last statement. That argument really weirds me out. What happened is a less...scatological (😅) manifestation of the "Nobody Poops in Fiction" trope. Just because we don't see an event doesn't mean it didn't happen. Sure, it would have had more emotional impact if we had seen it, but at that point in the Doylian context, the question of Yelena appearing in the MCU was probably not even in consideration yet.
@@ianrosenbalm6555 Agreed. The general problem is when a character or such makes a claim of that sort that directly contradicts the things we did see. If it's referencing something that we didn't witness on-screen, and it doesn't contradict anything we did witness, then it's a non-issue, and it's mostly just someone nitpicking for the sake of feeling superior or just to be a dick about it.
Yeah I'd like to see how much we see of black widow and hawkeye together and not actively dealing with an imminent threat or making a plan across all of the movies. I'd bet it's less than five minutes in total
Just remember how surprised all the Avengers were when they landed at Clint's farmhouse to discover he had a wife and children during Age of Ultron. Except for Natasha who knew them all and the kids called her Aunt Nat. Clearly she had previously spent lots of time with their family. I am sure on nights like that in quiet hours when the kids were in bed; Clint, Laura and Natasha talked about things from their past. We now know his wife was a badass in her day too.
The argument isn't about whether it's PLAUSIBLE that it could have happened off-camera, it's about whether it's GOOD STORYTELLING to just produce it out of thin air or not. And that matters because story telling that pulls you out of the story and makes you go "wait, how did this never come up before?" is bad story telling. Good story telling lets you forget that you're being told a story. It's not sufficient for an explanation to be plausible, it must also be convincing. And for an "If this was so important to a character, why did it never come up before?" plot point to be convincing, you need an explanation for why it never came up before. Something better than "oh, it just didn't".
Some added comic book context: Jack Duquene is "The Swordsman" in the comics. He was one of Clint's mentors back when Clint was young (hence the whole affinity for archaic weapons thing). I'm sort of disappointed that they didn't go in that direction in the show. Clint's wife in the MCU is based off of Agent 19/Mockingbird from the comics (you might have noticed the number 19 engraved on the back of the watch). Clint's had many different relationships over nearly 50 years in the comics. Black Widow, Mockingbird and Wanda (Scarlet Witch) are probably the three big ones.
kingpin is an iconic villain who first appeared in The Amazing Spider-Man #50. He's a classic Spider-Man and Daredevil villain who also deals with pretty much any other street level hero/anti-hero who operates within New York City such as The Punisher, Daredevil, Spider-Man etc. He actually plays a big part in the Daredevil show played by Vincent D'Onofrio who returned to play him in the MCU. It's also confirmed that Daredevil takes place within the same canon as the MCU (We see Matt in No Way Home) even if the show never depicted places like Avengers Tower. This was debated for years as the Netflix shows were pretty disconnected from what was happening in the MCU so some pretty treated it like it's own canon. Kevin Feige was also pretty hands off from the Netflix shows but I hear he wants to make a MCU Daredevil show that continues off from the Netflix show along with maybe Punisher and the other characters.
The Netflix shows have always been part of the MCU. The entirety of Daredevil Season 1 is built on the events of The Avengers, and they talk about the Battle Of Harlem (Hulk vs Abomination) multiple times, and Avengers Tower shows up in the posters for Daredevil and Jessica Jones, guys on the side of the road sell DVDs of the Avengers battling the Chitauri, they talk about Iron Man, Thor, Cap, and Hulk, villains in Luke Cage use Justin Hammer's Hammertech weapons, etc etc...

The Avengers tower is seen In the trailer for Netflix' Jessica Jones. JJ also references "the incident" and "the big green guy" and "the flag waver" a couple of times during the series.
@@ieyke Completely agree with you. Mine were just quick thoughts on the subject. Netflix Marvel (and AoS and Agent Carter) always respected and followed the MCU. However, MCU generally didn't respect them back.
Definitely watch Daredevil! The series takes place during Phase 2, after the first Avengers movie and is fantastic. The watch is significant because it ties Clint's wife to SHIELD, thus exposing his secret family and putting them at risk. I wish at the end of the musical post credit scene we had a pan over to someone in the audience like Paul Rudd as Scott just crying tears of joy at how beautiful it was to contrast Hawkeye's bewildered look earlier in the series.
The watch also has her Agent # on the back, revealing Laura was, if not the original, then one of the heroes named Mockingbird; the name of the agent Adrienne Palicki played in the Agents of Shield TV show. It's a nice nod to comic lore where Hawkeye did in fact marry Mockingbird.
Not gonna lie, one of the most memorable scenes from the six episodes for me was Kate falling of the roof in ep. 4. It brought Clint (and us!!) back to Endgame and Natascha's death scene. Even the music was the same 😭 the first time I watched it I was like : NO! Not history repeating itself 😱😥
"Improved statue of liberty" That episode came out the same day Spider-Man was released. And where was the final fight in that movie set? I love the little hints that the MCU spreads about.
I'ma little worried about marvel overdoing her character a bit too much. I liked her a lot more in black widow than in this show where she came across as may e a bit too cheesy. And because everyone loves her so much I think theyre just gonna shive it down our throats. Kind of like Steve in stranger things. Everyone loved him so in season 3 they started to overdo it a bit

One guy on UA-cam said it best. "KINGPIN!!!!" His reveal was huge, and absolutely wonderful to see given Vincent wanted to come back to that role, he loved it as a part of Daredevil. Dude re-invented the character without altering him. His presence. His tenderness and ferociousness contrasting one another but always feeling like it was the same guy. His badassery and his warped ideals. It was amazing to see.

S. ...much like the Tobey/Andrew Spidey movies, you'll want to watch Season 1 of Daredevil for MCU reasons. *NOTE: In the comics, Pietro didn't die, Ultron was created by Hank Pym, and not only did Thanos survive the Infinity Gauntlet Snap undo - he went before the Living Tribunal and was found Not Guilty and so HE GOT AWAY WITH IT and is still alive. Also, Grills was a divorced Hawkeye's upstair's neighbor, TL;DR - MCU changes stuff, don't count on things staying 'just like the source'.
You don’t need to explain what Marvel will reveal soon anyway. She goes in blind to these reactions. Telling her a character that they purposefully want people to think is dead will come back ruins why would be a huge reveal for her
From what I remember, King Pin ends up losing his eye in the comics and wears an eye patch. In Hawkeye’s last episode I believe they are hinting at that with the final line spoken by kingpin, “an eye for an eye” making us believe he got shot in the eye and survived

The Netflix Daredevil series is on another level from these new Marvel shows. Even doing something like this where you split them into groups of 3 episodes would be great, but you have to treat yourself to those 3 seasons and maybe even one or two of another Netflix character.

I'd be remiss if i didn't mention that I think without the women in Marvels production teams, everybody from (producer) Victoria Alonso on down to the writers, this show would not have been so successful and empowering and fun! Kate's, Maya's and Yelena's characterizations were so damn well written, and very well played by the actors.
The Netflix Shows and Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.have already done every thing you very correctly and artificially brought up (evolution not revelation)

@@ieyke MCU come with phases, from Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, Avengers, and now some shows Disney+. MCU different with Marvel in general. Marvel, you can find it on Sony with Spiderman Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield, those were Marvel, but not MCU. Another one, there is X-Men from Fox. That is Marvel, but not MCU. Lastly, Netflix, with Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, Punisher, those were Marvel, but not MCU. Recently, MCU can use X-Men because of the merger with Fox, and like I said we just got Matt and Kingpin, maybe others will too.
I believe Kingpin appearing in the show was actually the first ever time a "non-canon" character played by the same actor appeared in the MCU... maybe JJJ was the first one, I forgor. Ralph Boner doesn't count for obvious reasons. Daredevil was definitely slightly after this, and so was everyone else. I mean, technically no one ever said the Netflix shows weren't canon and the rights still belonged to MARVEL, but no one mentioned them in the MCU until this point and no one mentioned any of the Avengers there, so we assumed we don't get to have them. And here we go with my mans Vinny D appearing and immediately getting the Colin Firth treatment. Come on, he's definitely not dead if we didn't see the body. The eye line was a clue maybe? Plus, they confirmed he's gonna be in the next season of Daredevil in the MCU.
I really love that we get a moment in this series where the new Hawkeye decides not to take the shot on the new Black Widow, and that it really looks like they could be friends in the future.

Maya Lopez is also known as Echo. She's one of the few deaf heroes in the comics. She is usually a villain of Daredevil, but there is an upcoming Disney+ show called Echo which is about her and her journey as a hero. The actress that plays Maya is Alaqua Cox, a Native American actress who was actually born deaf. She also has a prosthetic leg in real life and has never revealed how she got the injury. This show is her first acting role and as I said, she even gets her own upcoming show too, so she hit the big time getting into the MCU as her first role and she did a great job too. With Matt Murdock/Daredevil being in Spider-Man: No Way Home and now Kingpin/Wilson Fisk being in this show, it's a big shift in the how the MCU is running things. Back when the tv shows were on Netflix, there was animosity between studios and other rules regarding how the tv shows related to or engaged with the main movies. The only character at that time that appeared in both was Clark Gregg as Phil Coulson, who is the main character in Agents of Shield. The other Netflix shows at the time, i.e. Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, The Punisher, and The Defenders were there own self-contained stories that really didn't reference the movies at all. Agents of Shield did have some small movie tie-ins or references outside of Phil Coulson, such as Lady Sif being in a few episodes of Agents of Shield, but that's about the only connections the old shows ever had to the main films. Now the floodgates are open and the tv shows and films are connecting with each other, which opens up a lot of opportunities for more stories and references.
Hawkeye was one of my top 3 TV series from the MCU. It gave me a lot of feelsies. You do not have to wait to watch Moon Knight; it doesn't tie into anything else in the MCU yet and is a fairly stand-alone story that Introduces the character(s).
Jack not being a bad guy is the perfect twist. He was such a mustache-twirling vilain stereotype, I just love that he was just a rich sword enthusiast.
I highly recommend you watch Daredevil. It’s on Disney plus now, and with a certain cameo in No Way Home and Kingpin in this series, that show is canon. It would provide good context for the characters and make the appearances cooler
My favorite Kingpin moments are always when you’re thinking of it’s a just a super muscley guy (he just looks fat) but still non-powered so this isn’t too serious, then he does something that just makes you go “oh shit I’m in trouble.”
In the comics Hawkeye has an enemy named "Swordmaster" who is as good with swords as Clint is with the bow. A nice nod and red herring in the show. The Rolex watch did belong to Hawkeye's wife as that was her Shield Agent # on the back. Her code name was "Mockingbird". I'll let you google her if you want to know more.
i love jack too in this series!!! but fun fact in the comic book Jack is a notorious villain. its also an easter egg with him being the Hawkeye series as in the comic books Jack, also known as the Swordsman, was Clint's mentor. To make a long story short, being put into foster care, after his abusive parents death, Clint Barton and his older brother Barney Barton, run away to the circus, where the Swordsman (Jack) takes them in as his own. The boys live many years with him and Clint learns archery from him. Clint finds out Jack was embezzling the circus. After Clint confronted Jack, the two of them fight and Jack pushes him off a trapeze leaving him for dead. It was nice to see this reinvention of Jack where he's actually just some good dude, rather than the evil comic book version of him
idk if anyone's said this but the snap is the term they use to reference Thanos dusting half the life in the universe, while the blip is what they refer to Banner's snap that brought everyone back.
So Clint met his best friend and his wife through SHIELD which makes it very important to him. That makes me really wish he would've been in Winter Soldier.
What I really love about what Marvel did enlightening us more about the people that were Blipped was that when Alana’s Blipped and she returned there was a family living in that house now. So when the rest of the people were wiped from existence in their own homes and came back five years later the reappeared in their homes again only to find other people and families living in their house. So a lot of the people blipped had to find new homes. But the ones whose loved ones weren’t blipped they got remain in their homes lucky them.
Kingpin is in / from the Netflix now Marvel / Disney+ series "Daredevil", KIng[in has like specially inner layer on his suits which can be seen in the Daredevil series
It's nice to see your reaction to kingpin considering you've never seen Daredevil (you should definitely fix that by the way) because his introduction here was quite divisive since some people thought he was too easily beaten in the show(which I definitely disagree to a certain extent). I also don't think he is dead considering it was not on screen and if it's based on the comics.
I mean even if he was killed it probably wouldn't have been on screen just because he was shot in the face. I can't imagine them doing the scene any differently even if he wss done. Kind of like stannis and game of thrones we don't actually have to see it sometimes to know. It actually kind of bugs me a bit if they do keep him alive. As much as I loved him in daredevil it just feels too cheap to have it first survive the explosion and then a shit to the face. Like c'mon
@@GJBedrin When they said "based on the comics", I think this is what went down in the comics. Unless I'm mistaken, the Kingpin was killed in a similar fashion (an off panel gunshot, at the end of a series, and it was supposed to be like he was actually dead). Then they brought him back in another series, by showing us what really happened.

As many are mentioning, Wilson Fisk/Kingpin is a major portion of the Netflix Daredevil series, which is perhaps the best superhero series ever filmed. It also explains why shooting Kingpin with an arrow did not affect him. Please check it out. It also gives perspective to why Spiderman's lawyer caught a brick and said "I'm a very good lawyer."
This Kingpin is specifically the Kingpin from the Daredevil Netflix series (we saw the Daredevil from that series in No Way Home), which is now on Disney+, however, yes, Kingpin does have connections to Spider-Man as well and is in Into the Spiderverse (though I've not seen the movie). Might be a bit of a spoiler, but it's currently unclear if they did kill Kingpin. There is a comic where Maya shoots Kingpin but it doesn't kill him, it only blinds him, and they might be pulling from that comic, especially with rumors of Kingpin being the main villain of Maya's solo series, Echo. the Rolex at the end is a sort of comic reference. the back of the watch is the Shield logo with a "19" engraved on it, indicating that Laura was at one point Shield Agent 19 (like Sharon Carter is Agent 13). As I mentioned, this is a comic reference, in the comics Hawkeye is married to a woman named Barbara Morse, AKA Mockingbird who was Agent 19 as well, so they took those aspects from the comics and gave them to Clint's MCU wife Laura (who is his wife in the Ultimate Comics, which a lot of the MCU takes inspiration from). Jack is a character from the comics as well, aptly named Swordsman, and in the comics he's someone that trained Clint and later became an Avenger. He's also famously the husband of Mantis from Guardians of the Galaxy in the comics as well. the next MCU show is indeed Moon Knight. All the episodes have been released prior to this video being posted (last episode actually released at midnight today), and Multiverse of Madness releases in theaters on Friday. the Ms. Marvel show is also releasing soon on June 8th.
Jack is the himbo we didn't know we needed in Marvel. And they never come out and say it in this show, but in the Daredevil Netflix series, Kingpin had custom clothing. It was all basically bulletproof, stab-proof, etc., but looked like normal suits and such..
Without spoiling anything Nat, if you do decide to watch the Daredevil series, which I do recommend highly, just be aware it is a bit more violent than normal Marvel Studio fare. (Kinda about the same violence level as Deadpool). However, Daredevil is a very cool and complex character in the Marvel pantheon; a street level do-gooder. The Netflix series did a very good job of bringing Daredevil's story to life, and Charlie Cox who played him was excellent casting. Matt Murdock's story is wonderfully complex with lots of internal struggle dealing with ethics and morality, right from wrong. All this internal conflict is mainly driven by his Catholic upbringing and being an idealist defense lawyer vs accepting himself needing to protect his city as a costumed vigilante ... Daredevil. Matt is one of the great ethical characters of Marvel herodom and one of the most conflicted. BTW, he is also totally blind, however he has special powers which allow him to "see". The drama in the show is perfectly portrayed and the writing is excellent. Kingpin is an important villain character in Daredevil (as well as Spiderman and other books) and is a central character in the New York crime syndicates that permeates the Marvel stories. Vincent D'Onofrio is amazingly cruel and yet very vulnerable in the Netflix series, and his performance as Kingpin deserves more than just a passing mention. One of the best villain performances in the MCU, by far. Bringing Vincent D'Onofrio and Charlie Cox officially into the MCU as Wilson Fisk/Kingpin and Matt Murdock/Daredevil is something many of us thought would never happen; but now ... here it is. By the way, Maya is character known as Echo who has her own series coming in the future.
Hey Nat, If you do watch Daredevil, make sure to know that the mini-series "The Defenders" happens between Daredevil Season 2 and Season 3 and features the other heroes of the Defenders Saga (Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist), all of which had their own shows on Netflix. The Defenders Saga is a corner of the Marvel Cinematic Universe that was telling its own self-contained story in the same world as the Avengers but they couldn't cross-over with the films due to Copyright issues they had with these characters. However, Netflix's license is up and now their stories will continue on Disney+ where you can now find all the "Defenders Saga" series. The correct order to watch them all is: DDS1 -> JJS1 -> DDS2 -> LCS1 -> IFS1 -> The Defenders -> The Punisher S1* -> JJS2 -> LCS2** -> IFS2** -> DDS3 -> The Punisher S2* -> JJS3 *Punisher is a Daredevil spin-off but has no connections with the overarching of the story of the Defenders so you can skip it. **Luke Cage and Iron Fist were supposed to have 3 seasons like the rest of the series, but were cancelled due to Disney+ launching and Netflix cutting their partnership with Disney in an effort to not support their newest competitor (Disney+). Thus these 2 shows end on cliffhangers.

The number on the back of the watch was the SHIELD agent number of Mockingbird in the comics. Remember how Clint said that Fury helped him set up his family? She was an agent as well, and that was her codename, Mockingbird, and he was Hawkeye.
The guy in the audience in the post credit is Marc Shaiman, seven times Oscar nominated film composer. He was hired specifically to do the _Rogers Save the City_ stuff.
fun fact: Jack in the comics is a character called The Swordsman and he's who trained Clint Barton in his origin story (comics clint was also born partly deaf and joined the circus before becoming a superhero, so there's a few notable differences between them)
Little note here: the owl in the Rockefeller Center tree is a reference to when that actually happened in 2020: they found an owl living in the tree, and they got him out and returned him to his home forest. He was seriously memed because the owl looked positively murderous, like he was thinking “Why the %#@& did you cut down my tree?” The author Diane Duane wrote a short fantasy book called “Owl Be Home for Christmas” where the owl recruits some wizards (from an existing series she’s been writing for a while) to go to NYC and take the tree back.
Some things you need to understand (besides who King Pin is lol) are: Hawkeye's wife is an operative by the name of "Mockingbird". She was one bad ass in the comic books. Shame that I doubt we will ever get to see her in the movies now, unless they do some Hawkeye flashback movie. They had the character in "Agents of Shield" and I thought the actress in the TV Series really fit the image of Mockingbird, but I don't think that character linked up with this character that plays Clint's wife. You also need to understand that the character Jack is playing is take from a comic book character known as "The Swordsman". He was part of the Avengers (in the comic books) and in the comic books, he trained the comic book Hawkeye and they were close friends.
Kingpin, is from the show Daredevil. In the show they explain how he has special suits tat act as a layer of protective armor. Fun fact, although Kingpin looks fat, he's actually pretty durable, fast and strong. He's like a sumo wrestler. He's actually pretty bulk, as he has peak human strength. He can lift around 650 pounds. Plus he's excellent when it comes to his fighting skills.
I really wasn’t expecting much from this series but I loved it, it sealed my opinion that I won’t bother watching any trailers for any of the shows or movies, I’ll just watch them when they come out because I have really liked everything they make.
Kingpin appearing here is quite a big deal. Not only is he one of Spider-Man's biggest enemies, but he is played by Vincent D'Onofrio who played the character in Netflix's Daredevil series

Yes, Jack was the giant red herring of this series and I loved it! "The Swordsman" from the comics was such a huge threat and they played that off beautifully. Better than the reveal of The Mandarin as Trevor Slattery. (Which I have also come to appreciate so much more)
Swordsman is definitely not a meta human in the comics. He and Trick shot were Clint’s mentors. swordsman would join and die an Avenger.
The great thing about it, is that unlike watching the MCU with some comic knowledge, even figuring out that this is the MCU version of the Swordsman, you can still think he might be the villain, because he started off that way in the comics, but then you could think he's going to be an ally, because he did later become an Avenger. So my guesses kept switching back and forth. And he played it great with the big ego, but still being very charming at the same time.

It was only natural. The new Hawkeye found her Black Widow. Notice how Kate had a shot on Yelena and didn't take it? Just like Clint and Natasha
Yelena treating Kate like a little sister is even more meaningful when you think about the fact that she recently (to her) lost her own sister. It kinda mirrors how Natasha always wanted to protect Yelena.
With Matt in No Way Home and Kingpin in this it would be cool to see Natalie do Daredevil!

I think it's amusing the way the show's writers managed to homage Hawkeye's comic book origins with Jack. Jaques Duquesne, aka, the Swordsman was a reformed villain who trained Hawkeye in the comics. As for Kingpins "death", what's that old saying? No body, no death.
In the comics Echo does shoot kingpin (just as she does here) but he's not dead and sends the goons after her. What her solo series will be about?

One thing I love about Kate in the last episode is that she was being considerate about Clint wanting to return home to his family. At the same time, she had to earn his approval to becoming his partner.

She is probably just going to be called “Hawkeye” in the comic this series is based on, Kate and Clint have a running joke about both being named Hawkeye, so they keep going “nice shot Hawkeye! Well thank you Hawkeye. No problem Hawkeye”

While Kingpin's bulk is often used as an excuse for him being incredibly durable (fun fact: he's only got 2% body fat), in the MCU his clothes are all made of a super-fancy armor fabric invented by a character from the Daredevil Netflix series.

I think the scene where Hailey Steinfeld helps Hawkeye talk to his family was so well acted without words, it's where the character realizes how much her actions have affected Clint and his family, and as you pointed out, something she never learned from her mother. It's a more integral scene to the series than it's given credit for, IMO.
Honestly it portrayed the challenges of being hearing impaired incredibly well too. My heart broke for Clint.

1 - Kate and Clint's dynamic was *fantastic*

3 - The hearing impaired parts (I can think of two off the top of my head - the flight away from Maya, when Clint keeps reiterating that he can't hear her "I assume you're on board" "we should let the dog out" etc, as well as the phone call scene - although you can throw in a few parts where Clint and Maya interact, however briefly) were SO good
4 - Jack being such a weird off-putting guy then eventually just a dork was great

*About that...* It's an argument often made by fans, regardless of IP. And yet what needs to be taken into consideration is, even with these characters in so many movies, we're still privy to barely a handful of hours out of their lives.
I totally agree with your last statement. That argument really weirds me out. What happened is a less...scatological (😅) manifestation of the "Nobody Poops in Fiction" trope. Just because we don't see an event doesn't mean it didn't happen. Sure, it would have had more emotional impact if we had seen it, but at that point in the Doylian context, the question of Yelena appearing in the MCU was probably not even in consideration yet.

If it's referencing something that we didn't witness on-screen, and it doesn't contradict anything we did witness, then it's a non-issue, and it's mostly just someone nitpicking for the sake of feeling superior or just to be a dick about it.
Yeah I'd like to see how much we see of black widow and hawkeye together and not actively dealing with an imminent threat or making a plan across all of the movies. I'd bet it's less than five minutes in total
Just remember how surprised all the Avengers were when they landed at Clint's farmhouse to discover he had a wife and children during Age of Ultron. Except for Natasha who knew them all and the kids called her Aunt Nat. Clearly she had previously spent lots of time with their family. I am sure on nights like that in quiet hours when the kids were in bed; Clint, Laura and Natasha talked about things from their past. We now know his wife was a badass in her day too.
The argument isn't about whether it's PLAUSIBLE that it could have happened off-camera, it's about whether it's GOOD STORYTELLING to just produce it out of thin air or not.
And that matters because story telling that pulls you out of the story and makes you go "wait, how did this never come up before?" is bad story telling. Good story telling lets you forget that you're being told a story.
It's not sufficient for an explanation to be plausible, it must also be convincing. And for an "If this was so important to a character, why did it never come up before?" plot point to be convincing, you need an explanation for why it never came up before. Something better than "oh, it just didn't".

Some added comic book context: Jack Duquene is "The Swordsman" in the comics. He was one of Clint's mentors back when Clint was young (hence the whole affinity for archaic weapons thing). I'm sort of disappointed that they didn't go in that direction in the show. Clint's wife in the MCU is based off of Agent 19/Mockingbird from the comics (you might have noticed the number 19 engraved on the back of the watch). Clint's had many different relationships over nearly 50 years in the comics. Black Widow, Mockingbird and Wanda (Scarlet Witch) are probably the three big ones.

kingpin is an iconic villain who first appeared in The Amazing Spider-Man #50. He's a classic Spider-Man and Daredevil villain who also deals with pretty much any other street level hero/anti-hero who operates within New York City such as The Punisher, Daredevil, Spider-Man etc. He actually plays a big part in the Daredevil show played by Vincent D'Onofrio who returned to play him in the MCU. It's also confirmed that Daredevil takes place within the same canon as the MCU (We see Matt in No Way Home) even if the show never depicted places like Avengers Tower. This was debated for years as the Netflix shows were pretty disconnected from what was happening in the MCU so some pretty treated it like it's own canon. Kevin Feige was also pretty hands off from the Netflix shows but I hear he wants to make a MCU Daredevil show that continues off from the Netflix show along with maybe Punisher and the other characters.
The Netflix shows have always been part of the MCU.
The entirety of Daredevil Season 1 is built on the events of The Avengers, and they talk about the Battle Of Harlem (Hulk vs Abomination) multiple times, and Avengers Tower shows up in the posters for Daredevil and Jessica Jones, guys on the side of the road sell DVDs of the Avengers battling the Chitauri, they talk about Iron Man, Thor, Cap, and Hulk, villains in Luke Cage use Justin Hammer's Hammertech weapons, etc etc...

Definitely watch Daredevil! The series takes place during Phase 2, after the first Avengers movie and is fantastic. The watch is significant because it ties Clint's wife to SHIELD, thus exposing his secret family and putting them at risk. I wish at the end of the musical post credit scene we had a pan over to someone in the audience like Paul Rudd as Scott just crying tears of joy at how beautiful it was to contrast Hawkeye's bewildered look earlier in the series.
The watch also has her Agent # on the back, revealing Laura was, if not the original, then one of the heroes named Mockingbird; the name of the agent Adrienne Palicki played in the Agents of Shield TV show. It's a nice nod to comic lore where Hawkeye did in fact marry Mockingbird.
Clint intends to keep his family secret to protect them which is why he doesn’t wear a wedding band.
Not gonna lie, one of the most memorable scenes from the six episodes for me was Kate falling of the roof in ep. 4. It brought Clint (and us!!) back to Endgame and Natascha's death scene. Even the music was the same 😭 the first time I watched it I was like : NO! Not history repeating itself 😱😥

From what I remember, King Pin ends up losing his eye in the comics and wears an eye patch. In Hawkeye’s last episode I believe they are hinting at that with the final line spoken by kingpin, “an eye for an eye” making us believe he got shot in the eye and survived

The Netflix Daredevil series is on another level from these new Marvel shows. Even doing something like this where you split them into groups of 3 episodes would be great, but you have to treat yourself to those 3 seasons and maybe even one or two of another Netflix character.

I'd be remiss if i didn't mention that I think without the women in Marvels production teams, everybody from (producer) Victoria Alonso on down to the writers, this show would not have been so successful and empowering and fun! Kate's, Maya's and Yelena's characterizations were so damn well written, and very well played by the actors.
The Netflix Shows and Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.have already done every thing you very correctly and artificially brought up (evolution not revelation)

I believe Kingpin appearing in the show was actually the first ever time a "non-canon" character played by the same actor appeared in the MCU... maybe JJJ was the first one, I forgor. Ralph Boner doesn't count for obvious reasons. Daredevil was definitely slightly after this, and so was everyone else. I mean, technically no one ever said the Netflix shows weren't canon and the rights still belonged to MARVEL, but no one mentioned them in the MCU until this point and no one mentioned any of the Avengers there, so we assumed we don't get to have them. And here we go with my mans Vinny D appearing and immediately getting the Colin Firth treatment. Come on, he's definitely not dead if we didn't see the body. The eye line was a clue maybe? Plus, they confirmed he's gonna be in the next season of Daredevil in the MCU.

Maya Lopez is also known as Echo. She's one of the few deaf heroes in the comics. She is usually a villain of Daredevil, but there is an upcoming Disney+ show called Echo which is about her and her journey as a hero. The actress that plays Maya is Alaqua Cox, a Native American actress who was actually born deaf. She also has a prosthetic leg in real life and has never revealed how she got the injury. This show is her first acting role and as I said, she even gets her own upcoming show too, so she hit the big time getting into the MCU as her first role and she did a great job too.
With Matt Murdock/Daredevil being in Spider-Man: No Way Home and now Kingpin/Wilson Fisk being in this show, it's a big shift in the how the MCU is running things. Back when the tv shows were on Netflix, there was animosity between studios and other rules regarding how the tv shows related to or engaged with the main movies. The only character at that time that appeared in both was Clark Gregg as Phil Coulson, who is the main character in Agents of Shield. The other Netflix shows at the time, i.e. Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, The Punisher, and The Defenders were there own self-contained stories that really didn't reference the movies at all. Agents of Shield did have some small movie tie-ins or references outside of Phil Coulson, such as Lady Sif being in a few episodes of Agents of Shield, but that's about the only connections the old shows ever had to the main films. Now the floodgates are open and the tv shows and films are connecting with each other, which opens up a lot of opportunities for more stories and references.
Hawkeye was one of my top 3 TV series from the MCU. It gave me a lot of feelsies. You do not have to wait to watch Moon Knight; it doesn't tie into anything else in the MCU yet and is a fairly stand-alone story that Introduces the character(s).
Jack not being a bad guy is the perfect twist. He was such a mustache-twirling vilain stereotype, I just love that he was just a rich sword enthusiast.
I highly recommend you watch Daredevil. It’s on Disney plus now, and with a certain cameo in No Way Home and Kingpin in this series, that show is canon. It would provide good context for the characters and make the appearances cooler
My favorite Kingpin moments are always when you’re thinking of it’s a just a super muscley guy (he just looks fat) but still non-powered so this isn’t too serious, then he does something that just makes you go “oh shit I’m in trouble.”

In the comics Hawkeye has an enemy named "Swordmaster" who is as good with swords as Clint is with the bow. A nice nod and red herring in the show. The Rolex watch did belong to Hawkeye's wife as that was her Shield Agent # on the back. Her code name was "Mockingbird". I'll let you google her if you want to know more.

but fun fact in the comic book Jack is a notorious villain. its also an easter egg with him being the Hawkeye series as in the comic books Jack, also known as the Swordsman, was Clint's mentor.
To make a long story short, being put into foster care, after his abusive parents death, Clint Barton and his older brother Barney Barton, run away to the circus, where the Swordsman (Jack) takes them in as his own.
The boys live many years with him and Clint learns archery from him. Clint finds out Jack was embezzling the circus. After Clint confronted Jack, the two of them fight and Jack pushes him off a trapeze leaving him for dead.
It was nice to see this reinvention of Jack where he's actually just some good dude, rather than the evil comic book version of him

So Clint met his best friend and his wife through SHIELD which makes it very important to him. That makes me really wish he would've been in Winter Soldier.

What I really love about what Marvel did enlightening us more about the people that were Blipped was that when Alana’s Blipped and she returned there was a family living in that house now. So when the rest of the people were wiped from existence in their own homes and came back five years later the reappeared in their homes again only to find other people and families living in their house. So a lot of the people blipped had to find new homes. But the ones whose loved ones weren’t blipped they got remain in their homes lucky them.

Kingpin is in / from the Netflix now Marvel / Disney+ series "Daredevil", KIng[in has like specially inner layer on his suits which can be seen in the Daredevil series
It's nice to see your reaction to kingpin considering you've never seen Daredevil (you should definitely fix that by the way) because his introduction here was quite divisive since some people thought he was too easily beaten in the show(which I definitely disagree to a certain extent).
I also don't think he is dead considering it was not on screen and if it's based on the comics.
I mean even if he was killed it probably wouldn't have been on screen just because he was shot in the face. I can't imagine them doing the scene any differently even if he wss done. Kind of like stannis and game of thrones we don't actually have to see it sometimes to know. It actually kind of bugs me a bit if they do keep him alive. As much as I loved him in daredevil it just feels too cheap to have it first survive the explosion and then a shit to the face. Like c'mon

Unless I'm mistaken, the Kingpin was killed in a similar fashion (an off panel gunshot, at the end of a series, and it was supposed to be like he was actually dead). Then they brought him back in another series, by showing us what really happened.

As many are mentioning, Wilson Fisk/Kingpin is a major portion of the Netflix Daredevil series, which is perhaps the best superhero series ever filmed. It also explains why shooting Kingpin with an arrow did not affect him. Please check it out. It also gives perspective to why Spiderman's lawyer caught a brick and said "I'm a very good lawyer."

This Kingpin is specifically the Kingpin from the Daredevil Netflix series (we saw the Daredevil from that series in No Way Home), which is now on Disney+, however, yes, Kingpin does have connections to Spider-Man as well and is in Into the Spiderverse (though I've not seen the movie).
Might be a bit of a spoiler, but it's currently unclear if they did kill Kingpin. There is a comic where Maya shoots Kingpin but it doesn't kill him, it only blinds him, and they might be pulling from that comic, especially with rumors of Kingpin being the main villain of Maya's solo series, Echo.
the Rolex at the end is a sort of comic reference. the back of the watch is the Shield logo with a "19" engraved on it, indicating that Laura was at one point Shield Agent 19 (like Sharon Carter is Agent 13). As I mentioned, this is a comic reference, in the comics Hawkeye is married to a woman named Barbara Morse, AKA Mockingbird who was Agent 19 as well, so they took those aspects from the comics and gave them to Clint's MCU wife Laura (who is his wife in the Ultimate Comics, which a lot of the MCU takes inspiration from).
Jack is a character from the comics as well, aptly named Swordsman, and in the comics he's someone that trained Clint and later became an Avenger. He's also famously the husband of Mantis from Guardians of the Galaxy in the comics as well.
the next MCU show is indeed Moon Knight. All the episodes have been released prior to this video being posted (last episode actually released at midnight today), and Multiverse of Madness releases in theaters on Friday. the Ms. Marvel show is also releasing soon on June 8th.

And they never come out and say it in this show, but in the Daredevil Netflix series, Kingpin had custom clothing. It was all basically bulletproof, stab-proof, etc., but looked like normal suits and such..
Kingpin and the blind lawyer from spiderman no way home are from the daredevil series so you should watch that.
I love that Kingpin is played by the same actor from Daredevil. He was my favorite part of that show. He’s so good in the role.
Without spoiling anything Nat, if you do decide to watch the Daredevil series, which I do recommend highly, just be aware it is a bit more violent than normal Marvel Studio fare. (Kinda about the same violence level as Deadpool). However, Daredevil is a very cool and complex character in the Marvel pantheon; a street level do-gooder. The Netflix series did a very good job of bringing Daredevil's story to life, and Charlie Cox who played him was excellent casting. Matt Murdock's story is wonderfully complex with lots of internal struggle dealing with ethics and morality, right from wrong. All this internal conflict is mainly driven by his Catholic upbringing and being an idealist defense lawyer vs accepting himself needing to protect his city as a costumed vigilante ... Daredevil. Matt is one of the great ethical characters of Marvel herodom and one of the most conflicted. BTW, he is also totally blind, however he has special powers which allow him to "see".
The drama in the show is perfectly portrayed and the writing is excellent. Kingpin is an important villain character in Daredevil (as well as Spiderman and other books) and is a central character in the New York crime syndicates that permeates the Marvel stories. Vincent D'Onofrio is amazingly cruel and yet very vulnerable in the Netflix series, and his performance as Kingpin deserves more than just a passing mention. One of the best villain performances in the MCU, by far. Bringing Vincent D'Onofrio and Charlie Cox officially into the MCU as Wilson Fisk/Kingpin and Matt Murdock/Daredevil is something many of us thought would never happen; but now ... here it is.
By the way, Maya is character known as Echo who has her own series coming in the future.

Hey Nat, If you do watch Daredevil, make sure to know that the mini-series "The Defenders" happens between Daredevil Season 2 and Season 3 and features the other heroes of the Defenders Saga (Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist), all of which had their own shows on Netflix. The Defenders Saga is a corner of the Marvel Cinematic Universe that was telling its own self-contained story in the same world as the Avengers but they couldn't cross-over with the films due to Copyright issues they had with these characters. However, Netflix's license is up and now their stories will continue on Disney+ where you can now find all the "Defenders Saga" series.
The correct order to watch them all is:
DDS1 -> JJS1 -> DDS2 -> LCS1 -> IFS1 -> The Defenders -> The Punisher S1* -> JJS2 -> LCS2** -> IFS2** -> DDS3 -> The Punisher S2* -> JJS3
*Punisher is a Daredevil spin-off but has no connections with the overarching of the story of the Defenders so you can skip it.
**Luke Cage and Iron Fist were supposed to have 3 seasons like the rest of the series, but were cancelled due to Disney+ launching and Netflix cutting their partnership with Disney in an effort to not support their newest competitor (Disney+). Thus these 2 shows end on cliffhangers.

The number on the back of the watch was the SHIELD agent number of Mockingbird in the comics. Remember how Clint said that Fury helped him set up his family? She was an agent as well, and that was her codename, Mockingbird, and he was Hawkeye.
The guy in the audience in the post credit is Marc Shaiman, seven times Oscar nominated film composer. He was hired specifically to do the _Rogers Save the City_ stuff.

Little note here: the owl in the Rockefeller Center tree is a reference to when that actually happened in 2020: they found an owl living in the tree, and they got him out and returned him to his home forest. He was seriously memed because the owl looked positively murderous, like he was thinking “Why the %#@& did you cut down my tree?” The author Diane Duane wrote a short fantasy book called “Owl Be Home for Christmas” where the owl recruits some wizards (from an existing series she’s been writing for a while) to go to NYC and take the tree back.
Some things you need to understand (besides who King Pin is lol) are:
Hawkeye's wife is an operative by the name of "Mockingbird". She was one bad ass in the comic books. Shame that I doubt we will ever get to see her in the movies now, unless they do some Hawkeye flashback movie. They had the character in "Agents of Shield" and I thought the actress in the TV Series really fit the image of Mockingbird, but I don't think that character linked up with this character that plays Clint's wife.
You also need to understand that the character Jack is playing is take from a comic book character known as "The Swordsman". He was part of the Avengers (in the comic books) and in the comic books, he trained the comic book Hawkeye and they were close friends.
Kingpin, is from the show Daredevil. In the show they explain how he has special suits tat act as a layer of protective armor.
Fun fact, although Kingpin looks fat, he's actually pretty durable, fast and strong. He's like a sumo wrestler. He's actually pretty bulk, as he has peak human strength. He can lift around 650 pounds. Plus he's excellent when it comes to his fighting skills.

I really wasn’t expecting much from this series but I loved it, it sealed my opinion that I won’t bother watching any trailers for any of the shows or movies, I’ll just watch them when they come out because I have really liked everything they make.
