My wife grew up very religious and sheltered and never heard of Terminator. We saw T1 and T2 together, and she was actually surprised when Arnold was the good guy in the 2nd one. When he shot the T-1000 instead of John, she was like "What?"
Yeah, that's one of those special moments in film that you just love to watch other people react to for the first time. It's right up there with Vader telling Luke about his father. And Jeremy is actually mistaken. They marketed T2 back in the day specifically to make you think Arnold would be the bad guy again, just so you would be shocked at that moment when he's revealed to be the hero.
Same when I introduced my daughter's to the franchise (as every good dad should) I do remember them laughing hilariously at the T1 stop-motion animation.
I grew up watching T1 as a "kids" film. I got to see T2 in the thearter with my Dad. T2 is "Set up that way" because that's the story. Anyone at the time would have thought Arnold /T-800 was the antagonist if you were heavily into T1. It's one of my fondest movie-going memories. The mall back-room hallway scene was as epic in the theater as you could imagine. This was also pre-internet and pre-spoilers.
Kinda reminds me of when my parents watched Captain America The Winter Soldier. They had never read the comics & were surprised when it was revealed Bucky was the Winter Soldier
If a goes to streaming I never see it unless its something like Killers of the Flower Moon. Physical copies for life. I am dtaunvhly against streaming movies. I will never give them my time of day and if you're like you'd do the same. I wish Jeremy would stop watching streaming movies. I never saw 6 Underground or Tetris, Samaritan, or Tomorrow War, or Level Up. If a movie goes to streaming it tells me the quality of ssid movie. Not worthy enough for my viewing. Nit good enough for the screen. Bot good enough to be seen. Rhats my motto/philosophy
Does i,Robot count? Cause god damn that's easily my favorite Will Smith movie. Something about the chemistry between the characters even if they're all simply written is just soooo nice. It's one of those movies that feels faster than it is but not in a bad way too. And it does a really good job in asking those questions Jeremy asked. Is Sonny really JUST a robot if he has human emotion? Where's the line drawn?
A good suspense film is a scarcity today... Horror is going through it's golden age but thrillers/suspense genre is still struggling. I'm glad this one is getting rave reviews!
I’d recommend _Prospect,_ which may have been Sophie Thatcher’s first role, and Pedro Pascal as the same character he always plays. it’s not without it’s flaws, but it’s pretty neat, and especially impressive considering it was a very low-budget independent film 👍
Hmm. Not sure about that. You're taking part of the premise and making a 1:1 comparison. 2 movies or a movie and a game can have similar story elements or even the same basic premise and be completely different in how they play out.
I was so confused because I knew I saw a trailer for a horror movie starring Jack Quaid but I forgot that it was called Companion. After seeing the trailer for Novacaine I gaslit myself into thinking that it was Companion until now 😂
It’s the way the marketing had me thinking it was about a simple crazy girlfriend movie…. WHEN IT TURNED OUT TO BE OPPOSITE 🤯 SHOULD’VE KNOWN FROM THE CREATORS OF BARBARIAN
I watched this on Monday, without seeing any trailers and really enjoyed it. I wish Jeremy didn't reveal the first twist about Sophie Tatcher in his review, so somebody who watched this but didn't see the trailer, could come in blind.
This is a movie filled with intrigue, especially early on as we find out more and more. It's also surprisingly funny, with several moments when the entire theater was laughing. I was enjoying it for the most part, but a few things held it back for me. The third act lingers and doesn't fully seem to know where to go.
Ok, wait, calling you out on your assessment of T2. When that movie came out we-well, at least I-didn't know that Arnold was going to be a good guy. I was hoping he would be. We were rooting for him. But I remember the moment when it's revealed that he was actually protecting John, me and my cousins were like, "YEEEEEESS!!!!"
You most likely memoryholed the fact that T2's trailer not only gave the twist away but kept repeating that point as if that was the only selling point of the movie.
Favorite "tech/AI" thriller is the one Jeremy mentioned in the beginning, Terminator 2. Damn I can't believe it's been more than 30 years since the last Terminator movie was made.
I’m with you on the blu-ray thing. I am a big collector of tv shows and movies for my personal library and it’s getting harder to find stores locally in my area that still sell them in bulk😤. I will always advocate for all shows and movies getting home releases.
I’m glad I didn’t see the trailer. At first I was like is she just a bad actor, then when It was revealed I was genuinely surprised. Made the movie even better for me
I had no clue she was a robot going into the movie and the twist SHOCKED me. I was wondering throughout the beginning, "why is she carrying all the luggage? Why does she tell him the weather? Why is her nickname literally BEEP BOOP?" I feel like I really need to rewatch the first 30 mins of this movie.
Kinda wish you wouldn’t have spoiled the whole robot thing. I haven’t seen the trailer and I don’t see how having white eyes on the poster tells you she’s a robot. Same with T2. It came out when I was 3, so I hadn’t seen the trailer before the movie and thankfully we didn’t have the internet to spoil everything for us yet, so that was a surprise to me.
Caught an advanced screening of this last Monday (it didn’t open nationwide in UK cinemas until today) and am rewatching it today on the massive Superscreen in Leicester Square, London. 4K projection and Dolby Atmos sound. Will even try fitting in rewatching it in IMAX on the UK’s widest screen at the same venue if I can fit it around other movies (which is proving hard due to the performance times). 9 movies in 4 days at this cinema this week. 😎
Sounds good. My only concern is diffusing the thriller with dark comedy. I actually love it when movies fully commit to being thrillers without resorting to silly commedy.
I like to think Jack Quaid in this movie is literally just his character from Scream 5, right down to the style of dress. Because however hard that man is clowned on, he could always use a little more.
If I heard right this director was tapped for a new resident evil movie. Kinda has Ex Machina vibes and yes at first they might have emotions, they might mimic at first but eventually will show true emotion.
I just loved having a movie on vhs, dvd and later blu ray, and just being able to watch it and watch the extra's any time I wanted and not having to pay for a streaming service. Just being able to "own" a movie and it's special features and extra's too.
I went into this movie knowing nothing at all about it so when it's revealed she's a robot, I was very confused. Liked it but it definitely caught me off guard. Quite a fun movie actually.
This was an interesting movie, when the teaser came out I thought it looked great, on such little information it singlehandedly became 1 of my most anticipated movies of 2025, then the second trailer came out and while still interesting looking it did make me temper my expectations a little bit because the actual plot it turns out was kinda odd and not at all what I initially thought it was gonna be, but even so it was still a good movie The best thing in it for me was Sophie Thacker, her entire character was so compelling, she starts as very shy and unconfident due to as you saw in the trailer Jack Quaid’s character keeping her at lower intelligence to control her, but as the movie goes on she learns more about what she is, goes through a great deal of emotional trauma because of it but ultimately rises to the occasion and fights back, she was easily the most interesting character here, and Jack Quaid is really good too, after so long of seeing him as nice guy Hughie in The Boys this was a fun switch up for him because now he’s playing a dick, and he’s not really an up front kind of dick, he’s more the kind that likes to manipulate you into thinking that you’re the asshole for speaking your mind, the other characters are there and they’re not bad but it’s definitely Jack Quaid and Sophie Thacker’s movie, and the actual plot that the movie doesn’t tell you, while a bit convoluted is interesting, and lastly the bloody violence is great, when she lets loose and starts the killing it’s a lot of fun to watch, and the fact that it’s taking place in more of a secluded location makes for some really creative kills here and there I guess 1 of my only complaints if you can call it that is that maybe the movie, I won’t say felt too long because it didn’t but rather felt like it ended a couple of times, again the runtime didn’t feel too long at all, but a couple times it felt like it would’ve been a good ending for it, and also while it wasn’t a huge detriment there’s a thing you find out about another character and once you find that out I feel like it was a missed opportunity for something they could’ve done with him later on, what we got was still good but even so I was like “Dammit, this would’ve been so cool” But even though the movie wasn’t quite as good as I had hoped it’d be I still liked it, I think because the trailer pretty much made this movie look like something it wasn’t right off the bat and so I expected something else but even so I still liked it, the main lead is great, the actual plot, while different was still enjoyable and while this movie isn’t really what I thought it was gonna be it was still quite entertaining. 7/10
Do you think "Worth buying on Blu-ray" would be endearing enough to become a future skeuomorph? Like "taping a show", "hanging up a phone", or the use of floppy disk as an icon for saving.
Hey Jeremy, What are your thoughts on that new joker fan film named Joker Wild . David howerd thorton plays joker in this one, the guy who plays art the clown . I liked it . But your a huge joker fan so l would love to hear your thoughts.
Yeah thats what i hate about some recent films. They tell the audience whats going on in the trailer, showing 2 and a half minutes sometimes. Then when you actually watch the film youve been advertised, they try to play it dumb and pretend they never showed you the premise, making it a big reveal when youve been sat there aware of it before it even started.
Luckily I didn’t see any trailers to this and with the poster, I didn’t put too much thought into it. So thankfully the big reveal made the movie even more enjoyable for me 😂😂
Technology is already headng in this direction. AI may or may not be at this level yet. But It will get there eventually. Thanks for the review. Always appreciated.
Ahhhhh another review that gives a huge spoiler! I am fortunate that I had only seen the teaser trailer, which was all they had been showing at my cinema for weeks. So the reveal of Iris' secret was a huge Wow! moment. And it won't be now for anyone who watches this review first!
"From the creators of Barbarian". At first I was like "OH GOD PLEASE NO", I HATED that movie. But I usually agree with your reviews Jeremy so Im gonna give it a chance, sometime for free, no 10 euros from me for cinema, thats for sure. Especially now, a cinema 2km from my house is playing classic horror movies every Friday and Saturday at midnight, Freddy, Jason, Mayers, Pinhead, Carpenter, Fulci, Romero etc. Now for your question, I could go on forever about AI/tech movies but Im gonna go with the classics, T2 and Matrix. Yeah, its a cliche choice but both are brilliant so...
he is right your not supposed to know she is a robot, that’s a surprise in the movie . i had to google in the movie theatre to confirm it though it’s mentioning in the movie next scene
This movie was awesometacular for me. It was extremely far paced. It was about an hour and a half and I enjoyed every minute of it Also in the video Jeremy said cruise control. Ironically I watched Speed 2 Cruise Control for the first time last night. It wasn’t the disaster I’ve heard it is but still bad.
I really liked it. I'm still pissed I saw the second trailer that gives away the whole robot plot point. I liked the teaser, and was planning on going based on that, but I would have liked to go in without knowing the concept.
