- A full, golden, harvest moon. A mysterious and noble raven perched on an old, twisted branch. All painted on a Fredrix metallic gold canvas. These are a few of my favorite things!

I used:
• 1/2-in flat
• 5/8-in bright
• 1/2-in angle
• #10 round
• #6 round
• Short liner

Also I found if you primed the canvas with yellow ochre before applying the gold on the cavas you get the same effect as buying a gold canvas. 💛

Out of this world! This is gorgeous Jane. I love the canvas you used, but I will probably just use the rich gold as my base coat, as you suggest .. I really credit you for this technique .. appears easy and the result looks spectacular. Today I will buy more paint for this :) I hope my Michaels has them :) . Jane what do you suggest for a canvas other than the metallic one...black or white? Should the alternate canvas be painted a specific colour before starting? I'm so drawn to this painting....I have a raven tattoo on my arm as a memorial to my nephew..💕💕💕💕
Jane, how do you get the crow to trace into the canvas?? I notice the back of the paper was black.
How do you get your acrylic to flow so well? I use a little of water and my paint becomes so thin....

Such a gorgeous work of art. I tried to follow your instructions and I just can not get my moon to look anything remotely like yours. I started on a practice canvas first but I can not get my moon to look layered. I will try again but I def got stressed trying to make it pop. One day I aspire to be as good as you. I did quite well following the skull on books one
I tried the moon again and I'm in love I can't wait to put the bird on next!!!!!

Hi Jane! Would red oxide work as a substitute for quin burnt orange? Just wondering bc I already have that color and it’s very transparent. I plan to paint this on a canvas prepped with Liquitex Basics Gold. Btw- voice over is great technique too. I enjoyed it. Thank you🎈

Is there a traceable for this? I'm not finding it :-( Also, do you think you'd get the same effect by painting a regular canvas metallic gold, or do you recommend buying the one you used?
I enjoyed this painting, I love ravens and crows. One question though, if he’s in front of the moon where are the highlights originating from? Should he not be quite dark except for the outline?
I think in art, especially stylized art, it doesn't matter. My goal is expression, not creating perfect realism. There are many, many things about this image that are far from realistic.

Hi Jane, what kind of tool are you using to trace the bird onto the canvas ... I'd like to find something better than Saral Transfer Paper b/c it can smudge on your canvas a bit - thanks!
You probably wouldn't like this technique, then. I just rubbed charcoal on the back of the paper, and then I just used a regular pen to draw around the lines, pressing the charcoal to the canvas. It leaves some transfer too, but with the dark image, I didn't feel like it would be an issue.

Hello Zeynep ... I did just that ... I covered a white canvas with the Iridescent rich gold ... I needed two coats and I think it's a good plan B for those of us who don't have the one Jane is using.. have fun, I'm enjoying working on mine today :)

@@zeynepeveri9670 I put gold over white , but if you do the black canvas I'm not sure how well the iridescent gold will cover it. But if you go over the black canvas you will need to touch up around the moon and that may be hard to match but I'm not sure. My moon is lopsided ... I just painted the black around the moon. But I'm not being hard on myself cause I can fix it after I add the silver and before I decide which silhouette I put in front. It is very fun to do ... I suggest using a large brush for the first few layers on the moon

Jane the links for your affiliated purchases for paints are not correct per color. Instead, it goes to another color, which means you won't be getting any little commission if we order the color through amazon. You need to check that before more people order the paint without using your link.
It's a beautiful painting but I'm sad you covered up the gold canvas! 😔
I understand that totally! But the gold of the canvas is what makes the moon look the way it does. A white canvas or any other color would have given such a different look, and the shimmer of the canvas for sure shows! 😊
