Midnight Raven 2016 Step by Step Acrylic Painting on Canvas for Beginners
Вставка
- Опубліковано 8 вер 2024
- In this video, we're gonna get together and learn how to paint an updated version of my most popular video, Midnight Raven. This is a good lesson for beginners on up!
I’m painting on a 12x16-inch stretched canvas, but you can paint on any type and size of canvas you like.
I used:
• A 1-inch flat brush
• A 1/2-inch angle brush
• A small round brush (about 3/8-inch)
I’m using Liquitex Basics acrylic paint in the following colors:
• Mars Black
• Titanium White
• Phthalocyanine Blue
But you can use any colors you like.

Thanks for watching!
8 of my friends and I did this painting together over discord in a Covid-style painting with a twist and everyone had a ton of fun and asked we do more in the future :) Thank you for making beautiful paintings that novices can still participate in!
Your tutorials are excellent! Thank you for the close-up shots so I can see what you are doing! So appreciated!
your right... Original midnight raven is how i found you... i am so glad i did... we have painted many pictures together and your have given me so much encouragement and tips... you also always answer your facebook messenger messages... your the best....

I love this one and the first raven also. I must've watched them both about a thousand times! So awesome!!!
Aaaw, thank you so much, Marquez!
Think you can do a peacock or a Phoenix? Lol just asking
Marquez Jeffers Maybe! I get asked for both here and there, so you never know :)
Cool still awesome though lol
Marquez Jeffers Hehe, thank you :)
Very nice, Jane. A great way to make round Suns, moons and anything you want to fill in with paint, etc. is to dip a round sponge into your paint or medium and press onto your surface then complete.
Great idea! Thank you :D
Oh My God! My painting actually looked like a Raven! I'm going to try it again with purple. Thank you.
thank you Jane you are making me a better painter love your style the dark side :)
Yay!! Thank you, Patricia :)

This is beautiful! I found your 2015 one a week ago and tried it. I wasn't happy with it and was going to re-do it until I found your updated one. Amazing!! Now I'm going to try this one and correct the mistakes OI made on the first one. You are very talented and I love that you're willing to share your growth as an artist with us. Thank you! 💜
Oh wow. so in the UK I get this every Tues when I wake up. I look forward to seeing what brilliant paintings you have done before I head to work. I'm 37 today and so this was part of my tea and cards in bed ritual this morning thank you very much! :-)
Happy birthday!
Happiest of Birthdays to you, Cheryl!!!

Hi Jane! Thank you for the time you put out for others to succeed in their paintings! You explain good and very calm and gentle tone of your voice that makes it pleasant. Hope you continue to make more! And I like your "dark" paintings very much / Andreas

AWESOME JANE.......!!! just love it
Thank you, Jav :D
Love the Raven!!! I painted it a few days ago and have gotten so many "I love it" comments. Thank you for sharing and teaching! You are amazing! Halloween is my favorite time of the year and I painted your cat with the spider, and I love the witch and apple! That's next for me.
I totally love this one I am going to try this one today at the Painting Studio thanks Jane!
I just finished this one and, wow, your raven is amazing!! Mine is... not. Bottom line, I shouldn't be attempting to paint wildlife. I also had some trouble with the blending - mine came out in shades of teal rather than blues even though I used Liquitex in the colors you specified. I really enjoyed the video, and really like a challenge. Thank you!
Iam so happy I found you! You explain and teach very well, I love creating any kind of art, I just feel I have to be creating something, I was doing fluid art for awhile, but seemed to get bored with it , but, this...!!! Yes! Iam so inspired, thank you Jane so much for sharing
Thank you so much, this really helped with a raven I was putting in the background of a piece for my boyfriend. I'll be looking at your channel in the future!
I had so much FUN painting with you today. I have 0 experience and yet I could understand and keep up with you just fine. I've always wanted to paint a Raven :) Thankyou so much for sharing.

Thank you, Kennie!!
Great tutorial Jane I like your technique for doing the blended sky I have such a hard time doing them for some reason. I like the way you did it with adding the moon after. Very cool Raven!
Thank you, Carrie. I hope the background technique was helpful for you :)

so beautifully done!
Thank you so much, Sally
Wow. I feel so inspired😄
I'm actually quite rubbish at painting, or rather i was before lol , watching you paint has made me come on leaps and bounds. I even drew a rough pencil sketch of Hekate, and for the first time EVER, i was super proud of what i had created! 💖👏
( i haven't got any paint yet, but i copied some of ur stuff in pastels😜)
Thank you, Beccy! I'm so glad you liked it and it could inspire you! Keep making art, no matter what kind
Great as usual Jane!

Michael Riesner Awesome! facebook.com/groups/ArtMonsterSquad
do you have an Instagram?
Michael Riesner No, not for my videos. I guess I should make one at some point, lol.
Felt a bit spooky when you mentioned in the introduction that I might have found you through the previous midnight raven. Cause I found you through that about 6 months ago! I was like how did you know?? I painted that and it came out well considering that it was my second painting. First was Cinnamon's kwaii elephant. I like the way you teach. Just the way a beginner would appreciate. I can't wait to paint this! Thanks again!
Thank you so much!!! It was just a wild guess because that's my most viewed video. Or I could be watching you, hehehe. I hope you have an awesome time painting this one too!

Yay!!! Thank you so much, Susan!
How wonderfully macabre my dear......
Thank you, friend
Hi Jane,
I love your videos. I always find something helpful in each one. I'm currently working on a barn scene and would love some tips on a rooster I'm stuck on. Birds are not my strong suit. Iol. Thanks for all of the tips and tricks thus far!
Thank you so much, Stephaine! Just take the bird as shapes and blocks of color. If you break it down into manageable shapes, it will be much easier. I know that's not a lot of help, but hopefully it helps you think about it and approach it a little different!
I love it so much, thanks for the Video, best regards Jemi
Thank you, Jemi
I love it! Thanks again to share your work and i really enjoy this!
Thank you, Maryse!! I'm so glad you like it
Thank you Jane i love this one 😍
Thank you so much, Nancy!!
Very nice Jane ,love
Thank you, Danny!!
I really like the raven in this one thanks again for all you do for us who are learning to paint. I want to ask in teaching us has your own art improved or has it changed at all or do you feel stuck teaching at the same level? I'm just curious I would think one would improve but I don't know!
Thank you, Laura!! That's a really interesting question, actually. In many ways, I know I've grown, and probably faster than I would have had I not been teaching. However, sometimes I do feel like there are areas I could grow in, I just don't get much time to paint for myself. I think that's why you guys are seeing some moodier paintings right now, I mean aside from Halloween, lol. It gives me the opportunity to experiment with things I want to paint.
Love this raven. :-)
Thank you, Sherry
i really like your paintings💓it's my type
Yay! Thank you so much, Cathy :)
love it
Love this one!! Amazing, & beautiful!
Thank you so much, Gail!
Not sure if you have, but could you please do a short tutorial on that dimensional blending. I'm a beginner who started with your bird against the yellow sun and purple background. I'm currently practicing some other types of painting styles like realistic trees and I'm learning I am pushing to hard sometimes, often take up to much paint on mistake and over blend a color , and that brushes are everything but not exactly ready to go buy the higher end brushes. I did a painting in an idea book that I would like to perfect and it involves that cool dimensional shading. I'd be willing to share an image via email for any suggestions. Thank you for you awesome videos. Im going to try the rainy day next. I really like the way you work with dimensions.
Very nice! Thanks 🤗
You're welcome! Thank you, Alina :)

Thank you! Yes, I'd really like to. Hopefully this season.
spooky -- I am starting a raven painting and this video showed up.. HA ..... now I have some reference. Sweet.... congrats on year.... is that when you started your channel? You rock -- keep it up !!
Thank you, Gina! I'm glad this will be helpful to you :D I actually started a year ago in June, but the original Midnight Raven was when I started posting regularly :)
Another beautiful painting.. ☺️ I'm kinda curious Jane, what's your favourite color? 😁
Thank you, Frances! You know, I don't think I actually have a favorite color. It's changed so much throughout my life. I think the color I'm the most drawn to right now is yellow. Funny, though, because I don't paint in yellow often, haha.
Happy 'Belated' Anniversary Sassy Jane!!!!!!!!
LOL! Thank you, friend
You are welcome, friend.

Didn't do your other Raven but I'm definitely gonna do this one! Was wondering, do you keep an art journal? If so, would love to see a flip-through of it!
