    I registered on UA-cam just to comment on your video. Thank you so much! You saved us the cost of a repair man. Our diverter valve was packed with the old rubber backing from a rug we washed. Four days without a washer and a trip to the laundramat motivated me to check out your videos. You did a great job analyzing and fixing your washer with one hand on the video camera. You are a blessing and please know your kind heart has helped so many people. Sorry about your comforter.

    My washer threw a code 37 which means it can't drain. Pump was clean and worked fine. The problem was two coins, a penny and a dime lodged in the u-shaped transfer hose! They made it through the pump but got caught in the rubber hose. Thanks for posting your videos!

    This video was extremal helpful. I was able to get through the diagnostics and determined that the pump had an obstruction. After pulling the pump off, I found an open safety pin lodged in the pump. Re-assembled and everything worked great! Thank you for making this video. Big help!!!!!

    Thanks so much for posting these. You gave me the confidence to repair our broken washer on my own. Turns out there was a rubber hair tie in the valve causing it not to drain. Still not sure how it got there, but once it was remove it was working. You saved us from having to purchase a new washer or at the very least hiring an expensive repairman so I am forever grateful of your service to the people on the internet. Well done

    Thanks for the videos. The first time I tried to repair it 2 years ago I found a penny inside the valve. Today I got the #37 error code (blocked pump). I tested the pump in maintenance mode and only heard a "humming" noise and figured something must block the pump from moving. It's actually really easy to remove the pump. Turn it on the side so you can access the bottom, unplug two wires, remove 3 screws and turn the pump to the left - I found baby wipes blocking the motor...works fine now. :o)

      I understand the decision issue about calling in an expert. I, too, weigh the cost versus my time, knowledge and ability. I can usually find the time but the knowledge and ability sometimes are nowhere to be found (though, UA-cam sure helps). Fortunately in this case we saved a few bucks and can save the expert for when we really need them. Take care.

    Luis,
    Thanks for getting back. Additional investigation found that (in my case), the diverter valve is activated (extended) promptly upon plugging the machine in! (before the power botton is even pressed!) No wonder it doesn't snap open and closed. It's been in full duty cycle for days, presumably overheated and warped and thus very slow to close (2 minutes after unplugging to retract). Following rinse & wash it won't drain. Diagonostic draining ("Regular button") just recirculates.

    Thanks! The wife washed a comforter which came apart,😱 washer would not drain and I was lucky enough to find your video in a Google search. Got to the converter valve which was clear but I had the confidence to get the water pump off and cleaned out the mess there. Tried to run the machine, no luck😟. Washer wouldn't fill? Put some of my wet clothes back in the machine and wala, it has filled, drained, rinsed and is now spinning. Cost of a new pump priced at $99.99, my services and your assistance. PRICELESS.

    The tech sheet doesn't detail it ... but the diverter can be operated in diagnostics with the Delicate button. Press it On to engage the diverter (recirculate mode), press it Off to disengage (drain mode). The diverter operates by heating wax which expands inside a closed cylinder to extend a piston for moving the valve, takes a minute or so to heat and shift to recirculate. Up to 3+ mins to cool enough for the return spring to recompress the wax to retract the piston back to drain. Run the pump to confirm which direction is the flow, that the valve is shifting properly. The procedure is stated service info for earlier model GWL10, the first model with a diverter for recirculation. Service techs presumably are supposed to be aware of it.

    Great video, was still useful even though my error was different to yours. Believe it or not from a blurry still during your video I managed to see my error code on your sheet (clearly the same codes across most F&P washers (mine GW612). The middle wash light, left rinse and spin light were on->if my eyes were correct, indicative of a pump blockage. Turns out it indeed was, but there was only a small clothes dryer sheet wrapped around the pin on the outside stopping the internal pump from spinning (so simple to fix and saved me $200++). Perhaps if you get time you could upload a short video showing all the error codes on your sheet (my "hidden manual" presumable had been taken at a prior repair episode!).
    ps. for anyone who finds this the pump is under the machine front right corner, you just need to rock it back to assess it->turn the pin to make sure it is running freely, if it is stiff try turning it both ways until it frees up and turn machine back on for use.

    Thanks for the video. I pulled the sheet out of the washer then scanned it so now I have a copy on my computer for future reference. To make a long story short somebody had put an all-in-one sheet in the washer and it was stuck in the diverter valve. I think that when the machine was fully loaded stuff can get sucked into the plumping and gum up the works. So be careful with any kind of small items and full loads.

    Thank you for this information! We watched all 3 episodes and followed your instructions for taking out the diverter valve. Your directions were very clear, the only problem we had was some difficulty releasing and putting the the valve back one....but not too bad. So, we had a plastic toothpick stuck in there. Took it out and now it's working fine. Also, I thought the "hidden manual" was some sort of code word, but there actually was a manual in the control panel, and it proved very useful. Why on earth do they hide that?? Thanks again!

    • @LuisMenchu
      @LuisMenchu  10 років тому

      Thanks for the comments. I'm not sure why the manual isn't just part of a package of instructions and care manuals provided with the washer. It apparently isn't included with all washers, since many people report that one isn't included at all. I'm glad your washer had one hidden away. Take care.

    One other thought, most people don't have this situation but just in case...is your washer draining into a sink? If it is and that sink drains slow enough that the water level in the sink goes above the washer drain tube, it can cause problems. We're in an old house and the washer is in the basement. We had trouble with our basement drain that caused the sink to back up. When water got too high in the sink, the washer couldn't drain.

  • @LuisMenchu
    @LuisMenchu  11 років тому

    It does sound like you have bigger problems and until fixed you would just burn through more diverter valves. Keep us up to date.

  • @LuisMenchu
    @LuisMenchu  12 років тому

    @afmargetts Good luck finding a wiring diagram, they don't even share the manual in the video. The diverter valve simply diverts water the the appropriate place, either the drain or back into the tub depending on what cycle the machine is in.

  • @LuisMenchu

    Last time I looked it is not posted by Fisher & Paykel. You'd have to contact them and see if they are planning on making it available.

    Luis,
    Thanks for these videos. Most helpful. Are these voltages (e.g.,to the diverter valve) all120V? It seems my machine either won't send the voltage to switch the valve from the default recirculation to drain mode, or if it is sending voltage, the servo isn't engaging. Bought a used diverter from a plumbing company on Ebay. Installed it, It did drain once, but subsequently it just recirculates water during the rinse and during the lead in to the spin cycle. Thks for secret manual clue!

  • @danielpeterson1895

    Diagnostics say the pump is clogged, but water is definitely moving, just not through the drain pipe. Verified, per your video, it is not in backwards. Do the "boards" go faulty? Wondering if there is a test point on the board because getting VOM leads under the WM when operating (and full of water ) is difficult. Again, Thkx!

    We have a problem with the washer, it will stop and "beep" . We clean the filter (we live in the country and have well water) and push the start again and it will go for a while and the stop and beep again, There is nothing in the filter or hose, we've replaced the hoses, cleaned all screens, could it be some type of sensor that's malfunctioning? It takes forever to do a load with the stopping and restarting. Thanks for any help !

    • @LuisMenchu
      @LuisMenchu  8 років тому

      +Marlene Venneri Hard to know without more info but I'll take a shot. Our washer is in our basement and drains into a utility sink next to the washer. We were having trouble like you describe and it turns out it was caused by the sink draining too slow. The water in the sink was going above the washer's drain tube. When this happened the washer would beep and stop. Of course by the time I'd get down there the sink had drained making this hard to diagnose. If this is it, it's a simple problem -- just get the sink drain working better. If not, hopefully someone else will offer some suggestions for you. Good luck.

      Yeh not sure if it did, guessing it must have as most of our furniture was damaged. I could run it through diagnostic mode, both solenoids and the pump were fine, couldn't get the lift lid/out of balance switch to work...

    Hi Luis,@6:26 you are pressing the load reset button. I can't see any button in similar location. Is it closer to the back wall ? Thanks,

      @LuisMenchu  9 років тому

      Hello Atit, I assume you mean the out of balance switch. You can see the switch best at 6:22. It is just a plastic tab hanging down and is a short distance back from the outside wall of the drum. If the load is out of balance the drum would hit the switch.

    • @ninjawarmac
      @ninjawarmac 9 років тому

      Hi Luis, yes exactly that - the balance switch. I had to open up the water pump and clear the blockage and that fixed the problem. Thank you for the video as it gave me confidence to fix the problem and the washing machine is good as new now.

    Luis thx for the video. I had a dime and a toothpick in mine. My washer was working through all cycles but throwing water all over the walls and floor on spins. After I removed dime and toothpick it won't even go through cycles. I have a hot water error now and if I wait long enough I get error 51 diverter valve. Bought new used diverter valve off appliance company and installed today. Valved looked good but still I get diverter valve error and hot water error. Pump started out working and draining water but after a couple cycles it errored out and I cannot get washer to drain in diagnostics mode. Is there anything else I could check? I did check the hoses and blew through them and they don't seem to be blocked. I really could use some more help. I really need this washing machine! I appreciate all the help in advance!

    • @LuisMenchu
      @LuisMenchu  10 років тому

      First thing I would do is check the diverter valve again. Perhaps something else was lined up to block it after you cleared it out the first time. Probably not the issue but good to check.
      At 8:23 in the video I show the other reasons why you could be getting the diverter valve error, these are "wiring fault or fault in the motor controller module." I have no idea if these are your problem but it is important to note that it isn't always caused by an obstruction. They also note to check the resistance.
      Sorry I can't give you more to focus on or real details on checking the above. Hopefully someone else can offer some suggestions as well.
      Good luck!

      Sorry for the late response. I bought a used diverter valve on eBay for $20. I installed it just like the last one was hooked up. It still didn't work and gave me a diverter valve error code. While in deep though before I dragged it to the trash, I thought that just maybe I might have it hooked up wrong. One diverter valve, 3 hoses attached to it. I watched your video again with a closeup of exactly how the valve was positioned and compared it to mine. Mine was not positioned the same way as yours was. I disconnected the hoses, repositioned the diverter valve, and reinstalled the hoses. Finally, everything works just fine. Now the only thing that I need to do is replace the ruined carpet and padding that was flooded multiple times. Well I need new carpet anyways. And now I'm ready for all the "what an idiot" comments. I know it, I deserve it. But without your video I wouldn't have been able to have fixed my washer in the first place. Thanks again!

      I'm glad it worked out for you and that the video helped.
      Too bad about the carpeting. I do like that we have a true basement -- any water issues just go out on the concrete and down the drain. My mother's house has her water heater in the attic and I always look at it thinking of the mess it may make some day.

      Not sure. Hopefully someone else reading can help out. It might help to describe it more. For example, what do you mean by sprays water? I would assume you mean the pump is spraying water back into the washer -- if so, this could be (as the video describes, be sure to watch all three parts) the diverter valve. It can get stuck so water after the wash cycle that normally gets pumped out the drain ends up spraying back into the washer.

    I have a 11 year old fisher paykel eco washer that has had the diverter valve replaced twice. I don't know why it keeps failing. There is never anything lodged in them. It seems as if the actuator on the diverter just burns out. When the new diverter is replaced it works for a couple of years then just does not drain. If the board or wiring was faulty the diverter would cease sooner. So, I can safely say that the diverters are problematic.

    Hello the agitator on my machine wont go down completely, so I cant screw in the plastic wing nut. I can get it on completely down..without the bowl on.. Next I loosened the 3 screws and dismantled the assembly on the bottom of bowl, thinking there might be some gunk in there. Cleaned everything out, still same - agitator needs to go down another 4 mm or so. If I remove the white plastic gear in the bottom of the bowl assembly, the agitator goes all the way down. There seems to be nothing stopping this white plastic gear from going all the way down so the metal underneath seems to be in contact with the lip on the spindle. Can you please help .. GW712AU

      +Olanzabean No I didn't ... interesting you have same problem, mine also 7.5 kg machine bought 2005. Im in Australia, where are you? I can get spares here; shop.onlineappliancespares.com.au/browse/93187-a-29688?page=1 Wasted my money on a new agitator.. If wing nut screws in fine without bowl, its obviously not the problem, what did the techie say to that? Did you pay ?? Please let me know if you solve this thanks

    Hi thanks for your video. My Fisher & Paykel MW511 washing machine error code is 56- Binery code 00111000. I also need a "Detailed Fault Codes Manual". Do you know which website I can download one from (preferably free). In your video you found one under the control pad on your machine but my model does not have one there. If you could use your manual to tell me if I have the correct diagnostic (error 56) that will be very helpful. So once again the Binery code is 00111000 (left to right- off, off, on, on, on, off,off,off) Im not sure what to do but from what I have read online I need to remove the RPS to check for corrosion but first I need to get to it by removing the copper wiring stator part of the motor. (I also read on fixya.com that I need to replace some of the resistors (3x332k resistors with a 1 Meg Ohm resistor if there is corrosion or damage) Do you know where I can find a video online of a demonstration? Any help you can give me will be much appreciated.

      I'm glad you found manuals. On the video, I'm not familiar with any showing what you are looking for. Hope you find it. I've only posted for maintenance I've had to do, sorry.

    you should have checked the error code. from the other video that i watched, i learned that when a error code is stored in the brain, then you will see random status lights on the control panel for example: you have a light off, off, on, on, off, on, off, off. for every light that is not lit, the number is a 0. and for every light that IS lit, the number in that case is a 1. so, in that case, the error code is 00110100. The series of 0 & 1 gives you a binary code. what you do to get the error code is multiply 1 by 2 until you get to 128. the binary error code is: 128=0, 64=0, 32=1, 16=1, 8=0, 4=1, 2=0 and 1=0. you add the numbers that have the number 1 on it, i add 32+16+4=52. so, the error code is F-52, which is like what you said, it's a draining error.

    • @LuisMenchu
      @LuisMenchu  7 років тому

      Yeah, I learned a little while back they use a binary code to signify the error codes. I've seen other videos where the person has the washer lights and sounds, paying songs. Fun!

    ...if anyone can post online a copy of their 'Diagnostic Faults Code' for a F&P MW511 that would be much appreciated. My washing machine has finally stopped after filling with water & won't go past the fill stage. With binary code 00111000 & I think it's a fault with the motor controller (error 56??) But I won't know for sure until I see the manual. If you can help that will be great...thanks.
