  • The world of specialty coffee can seem pretentious and/or intimidating, but it doesn’t have to! Today we will explore how you can get started in your journey with specialty coffee. We will try to define specialty coffee, and also remove some of the perceived borders to entry. The world of coffee is meant to be enjoyed and explored by all, and there are even deeper questions about the production of green beans and the ethics around choosing who we support for our morning cup of joe. Enjoy!

Thanks for the video! I started drinking coffee at 16 and I’m 70 now. Many happy coffee years.

We got into specialty coffees 14 years ago on our honeymoon to Kona Hawaii. We like Ethiopian coffees the best, but have never done a side-by-side of different farms to try to pick up subtle differences... Thanks for the video ☕

What a wonderful place to honeymoon and enjoy some coffee! I only visited one farm while I was there but it was the first time ever that I'd seen a coffee plant in person.
I like Ethiopian coffee too 😊

Thanks for the video and greetings from Brazil !
Last weekend I had the chance to visit a specialty coffee farm here and I am so inspired to maybe start a business here to sell the coffee locally and maybe export.

Yup I like your view. Too many people are still too barista-centric while it really is all about the complete supply chain.

man u literally saved my ass😅 , i invited a girl that i like over a cup of coffee and i had no idea how to have a proper conversation about any thing without being a complete fool . She seemed to be a “ coffee obsessed “ so i had to educate myself a bit . And thanx to u she liked how a coffee professional i am :) cheers

What if, instead of educating yourself before hanging out with her, you asked her questions about her love for coffee and let her teach you about what she loves? Trust me, a girl would be far more interested in someone who is willing to listen and learn from them rather than someone who tried to learn about her hobby and become an expert before meeting for a date.

Anybody drink Tully's brand coffee. I like their Hawaiian blend and French Roast. Still haven't found their Italian roast in stores

Excellent video, with one big - huge missing point !
To experience great Coffee from great Specialty Coffee,
It’s extremely important to know :
    - How old are the Coffee beans
    - Quality grinder and settings
    - Quality of temper
    - Quality of water
    - Water temperature settings
    - Brewing time
    - Pre-Infusion and pressure
    - yep, Expensive machine
    .... And great Barista.
Without all of that, the best and most expensive coffee in the word is just expensive coffee * not close to Magnificent ☕️☕️☕️

Naw. You dont need all that. I mean it seems you're referring to espresso here, but you can also make incredible coffee with cheap pour over setups.
But in any case, this video was about how specialty started and what to expect from a specialty cafe. Not about how to make great coffee

I am so sorry, but as they say “constructive comment” was lead by my experience and your words at 3:35 “ Just pick any coffee, try it out ... “
I did the same mistake in the past, buying specialty coffee and trying! Huge mistake ...The taste was nothing special until I invested my time and money and realized how all the factors are crucial for magnificent taste and understanding why the specialty coffee is much better than just a coffee. Now I just support farmers that works hard and their products.
Trying specialty coffee in let’s say Slayer machine, grinding with EG-1 grinder, mixed with BWT water filtration, as well preparing specialty coffee 7-12 days after roasting, with the proper dosage, extraction and knowledge of barista is not even close to trying the same specialty coffee with regular water, normal grinder, machine... without disrespecting any “normal” grinder. It’s just the facts that the difference in testing the same coffee will be Earth and Sky !
Again keep producing great contest as you do, focus on all good and bad comments and accept them is the only way for you to grow to 10k or 100k subscribers. Wishing you all the very best ...

@@CoffeeTimeJR I'm glad you said that.. With that persons idea of coffee, nobody would try different methods. I use k cups and drip. Now for the first time I am going to try v 60! Who would ever think making good coffee would be fun?? Thank you

It’s not “extremely important to know” any of that to expreience great specialty coffee. Maybe just picking out any coffee might be a tad too broad (i.e. going to Starbucks and expecting to find a good specialty coffee experience), but honestly, gatekeeping coffee like that would be a massive turnoff for people getting started on their coffee journey.
Unless someone is learning to make espresso at home, the vast majority of your points are useless. This video is about starting to drink and appreciate specialty coffee, not “what you should know when making espresso at home.”

EASLY EXPLAINED : Specialty Coffee is the cooler version of crappy bar coffee/industrial coffee and to get into just try it :D
