Nespresso Review - Papua New Guinea Grand Cru (Limited Edition) | Original Line
A new and limited edition release from Nespresso has come to us today from Papua New Guinea. This espresso joins their Grand Cru line up. We will discuss what this designation means, and we will taste and review this coffee to see if it’s a Nespresso capsule worth purchasing for yourself! I’ll be tasting it on the original machine, but I could not find it in my region for the Vertuo. It may exist somewhere out there, but I’ll be focusing on the original pods today!

How exactly are pour overs different from drip coffee? This is a question I often get asked at our cafes, and I thought I would help explain it today! It’s a little more nuanced than you may think. While some baristas and coffee enthusiasts swear by the pour over, others say you can’t beat the consistency of the batch brew. There are many things to consider whether you are brewing the coffee at...

I just got a nespresso orignal with a frother upgraded from a moka pot. All I'm looking for is a better experience than instant coffee and one which doesn't involve a 15 min ritual to enjoy a cup finished in 5 min. Nespresso offers that experience.

You need to use the narrower base pitcher. The new wide base 64 oz pitchers that come with the ascent series are not as functional as the narrower pitchers.

A traditional Italian espresso uses 7grams not the double dose you quote.

@wolframluchner5316 wasn't really referring to italian espresso though. More so comparing it to specialty coffee shops I've worked in here in Vancouver (which is also closer to the norm of any decent coffee shop in cities around the world)

I understand this is an old video but I should comment on your talk about caffeine. Caffeine is one of the most stable compounds in nature. It does not degrade at the temperatures used in roasting. It sublimates at 178ºC at atmospheric pressure. However, at the high pressures within the beans during roasting (up to 6 atm), it does not sublimate. As the temperature increases, part of the caffeine is lost to the exhaust gas as it is dragged by the water vapor coming out of the beans. Caffeine is only moderately soluble in water at ambient temperature but its solubility increases to infinity as the temperature is increased to 100ºC. In the 1940s, the caffeine used in Coca-Cola formulation was extracted from the stuff scraped from the coffee roasters exhaust pipes. To exactly determine how much caffeine was lost during roasting, one should measure caffeine at each roast degree and calculate the amount of caffeine based on the original green bean mass. The total mass loss should be considered at each roast degree.

I get dark roast whole beans and brew in every different way there is from espresso to French press to even keurig. Just depends what I’m in the mood for at the moment. But coffee brand wise, I do like my pricey beans like Kona, Misha, Geisha, Devil Mountain, Death Wish, Black Rifle, Jamaica Blue Mountain and everything Starbucks (I know I know I’m a sucker for Starbucks 😂). When I do want to save money and get my bang for my buck my go-to is Bustello. What will NEVER EVER touch my lips is Folgers. God no. 🤢 🤮 nooooope!! Also for espresso I usually do 4-7 shots. I like my ZING BANG POW 💥 🤯 🥊 throughout the day and before bed as well. Anyone else drink coffee before bed?? I picked it up from my family. We always drink our nighttime cup. ☕️ 🫘 and I also like to wait a half hour to an hr after I wake up in the morning to drink my first cup (of many) of the day. Coffee lovers!!! 🤘🏼

I have a Casabrews machine that has a pressure gauge and shows the pressure as it’s brewing. With the stock portafilter, I can reach optimal pressure, but with the bottomless portafilter, I can’t quite reach optimal pressure. What do I need to do to adjust this? I am very new to espresso brewing, so I’m probably doing a lot wrong!

Black and Decker simply says to use a paper filter with no rationale. I wonder if "fines" collect in the coffee maker's innards and eventually have negative effects on coffee taste and machine's longevity.

I have the Nespresso essenza mini(original line), my friend has the brevile barista pro... The Nespresso(medium roast pods number 5-6 )is pretty close to the taste of the espresso out of the barista pro and Consider the cost, time and effort it takes to make an espresso, it is a no brainer for me, the slightly better taste is not worth it for the extra work and time... And don't take my word for it, if you have a Nespresso store near you, they usually do samples, just go there and ask for a sample out of the original line and see for your self

What kind of info were you looking for? Generally, grind difference between these methods is pretty straight forward. Drip is usually more coarse than pour over, simply because you do a smaller size on pour over. It depends on the "bed depth" which is a reference to the thickness of the coffee bed sitting in the filter. With more depth you need to help the water flow a bit better by going coarser, and with less depth you can get away with going finer

Measuring water temperature from a flash heating system like a thermoblock will be inaccurate without a pod or coffee puck in the machine to slow down the flow rate allowing for full heating of the water as it passes through the coil. Only a boiler yields accurate temps regardless of flow rate. What is truly hilarious about the question is that most so called "experts" who do this comparison ignore the traditional definition of espresso being 7-9 grams that yield 25-35 ml. Laughably most of these experts forget they are using a double filter basket and have just opted for redefining an espresso as 14-18 grams that yields 25-35 ml. THIS IS CALLED A RESTRETTO AND NOT AN ESPRESSO. Sadly, this mass confusion has just about convinced the world that a ristretto actually is an espresso and thus is the basis on the comparison to Nespresso. Usually sounds something like "Nespresso only has 6-7 gm of coffee while a true espresso uses 18 gm for the same volume" This is all because people have egos and making espresso does require a bit of skill and knowledge and how dare you try to come close to my 30 min ritual of dialing in my God shot with some stupid capsule. Now be gone you Nespresso pheasant!

I have an old 30 plus year old Oster blender. Great blender does as good of job blending as my Vitamix for simple jobs. However I broke the glass carafe and decided to use my Oster with my attachments being the Mini blender container which will make 6 oz of ground coffee and one can control the speed for grind size quiet well. If one needs lots of ground coffee for a huge coffee machine or old school large electric percolator then yes any blender will do a very good job. I was gifted a burr grinder which works ok but when it breaks I will not get another one and go back to using my Oster. Vitamix needs to provide some cool attachments like a mini food processor and mini blend container like other manufactures like Oster.
