Awesome stuff, as an ex GameBoy Color coder, it was great to see the many games that didn't make it to release. I myself worked on the GameBoy Color ports of Revolt and Equestriad 2001 which both got cancelled. Interestingly our port of Revolt, got reskinned, completed and released by Rocket Games / Datel as ATV Racing, an unlicensed cart.
I grew up in the GBC age (born 92, so I was ~6 when I and everyone got a GBC, for reference) and have been enamored with the tech and era since. I always wanted to know how it worked, and how to make my own games, and fortunately I did become a programmer around 2004 and eventually get my wish. I do wish there were more places to read on the dev experiences from this era, its always great to stumble upon someone from this time on youtube
Clearly publishers weren't interested in paying for advanced or unique games for Game Boy. Unlike for other systems, where quite a number of games were kept from release for good reasons, here is a selection I would have loved to see. Stip in particular looks amazing for a GBC title.
Hahahaha, that's hilarious that there's a ROM that's more complete than the released version. SHocking that Superman 64 got released when so many good-looking titles didn't.
Good vid! I remember seeing Tyrannosaurus Tex when I was a kid; back in an old EMG mag that was pimping the dreamcast at the time. I had forgotten about it until now.
Infinity is the sequel to a game called "Joltima". Joltima was developped by the founder of Affinix and was originally released in 1998 for the TI-83. Inifinty was called "Joltima 2" early in developpement.
Thank you! That's what I figured; people can find all this info online themselves, but far easier to watch a twenty minute video than to spend ten hours trawling the internet.
One handheld I never owned. My only experience of using a Game Boy was borrowing a mate’s when I was flying to Orlando once. Spent a good few hours with Pokemon on that flight. Great video Pedro!
Great vid Pete! Always interesting to hear of games that we never saw back in the day. Resi on GameBoy Colour would have been something I would have been interested in had it been released at the time. Nice one 👍🏼
I loved that Game & Watch. I did re-buy it a few years back, but wish I'd kept my original. No idea what happened to it. Glad you think I summed it up well; it really was such a big deal to have interchangeable carts.
Small correction I'd like to note on Tyrian 2000: The GBC version wasn't leaked, World Tree Games, a.k.a. the developers of the game, actually released it for free themselves from my understanding. Same dealio with the GBA version too.
Aeon-Metal Fighters, Titus Jr., Trail Blazers, Elite, Green Beret, Katakis 3D, Infinity, Stip, Wicked Surfing, The Mask: Zero to Hero & Carmageddon: Total Destruction Racing should be picked up by either JoshProd or Piko Interactive so they can be finished and released either physically or online for everybody!
Great video as always :) Is the Stip footage actual GBC footage? Very impressive graphics if so! Elite on the DMG would have been an amazing achievment, the 3D demo shown here looks cool!
I'm pretty sure the Mask: Zero to Hero was a Gameboy Color port of the Super Nintendo game. I was really looking forward to playing it, but the SNES version suffices for now. At least I have the Mask's Escape MGA Handheld to supplement it lol
I researched NGPC but there's not enough to warrant a video sadly. Neo Geo is also tricky, but I should get some sort of SNK video done at some point if I include all SNK platforms.
Just wondered why no mention of "Edd the Duck"? It was to be the 5th variant of Agro Soar, Baby T-Rex, Bamse and We're Back a Dinosaurs Story. Also the very very unknown "Syd The Elephant" was another that could also be included!
Agreed. I re-bought the Game Boy pack I had as a kid years ago, along with all the games I had. I've been meaning to do a video on the topic actually. Nothing brings back the memories quite like the Game Boy boxes.

Thanks, Mark! No, I don't think I do remember the Quavers promotion. Hahaha sorry about the music, but generally I never include the music from the games as it's difficult to find, so I just get together a selection of tracks (from the console I'm covering) that I want to use. Totally agree on Link's Awakening. It's a game that means a lot to me, and is my favourite GB game and one of my all-time favourite games on any system. The ending has definitely brought a tear to my eye on more than one occasion, it's quite beautiful.

Agree, Erwin. Publishers were sadly (most of the time) not willing to take risks. There are definitely some potentially great games here!
Hard to think how many cancelled games there are that we will never know about
I know, right. There must be countless games out there that we'll never hear about.

Ah, loved Special Reserve. Thanks, Russ!
I read cancelled gameboys instead. I wouldn't be suprised because the game boy had so many redesigns

I had that red LCD car game as a kid
Niiice! It was so primitive, but I loved it.
There was a cancelled South Park game on GBC. There exists only one screenshot publicly. Matt and Trey own the beta cartridge.

A lot of unreleased games released almost exactly a year ago via the Nintendo leaks. Maybe a part 2 if it hasn’t been made yet?
