Thanks for the upload, hope you get better soon. Never knew there was so many canceled Commodore stuff, thought like most *pre CD* stuff it came out even if it was in a buggy state.
Glad you mentioned Daffy Duck as I do remember reading about that one in Retro Gamer Magazine. Urban Warrior looks strangely similar to Back to the Future on the NES. I think Bobby Bounce Back, Thruster Ball and Otherworld as well as Daffy Duck are the best of these that should have come out.
Never played BTTF on the NES. Only played II on my Amiga (which actually came as a pack-in title with my Amiga), which was awful. Didn't stop me playing it loads though!
@@onaretrotip I have a lot of time for BTTF II on Amiga. The game is way too hard but cheating makes it a decent experience, better than the third game anyway. It's unfortunately still the best BTTF game that's been made, that includes the woefully boring and uninspiring Telltale game. Only reason I know about BTTF on the NES is because of AVGN.
i did bobby bounce back 30 years ago! while i still lived at home , using a firebird gfx editor , i think we swapped things in the post on cassette . i did more games that havent been released but havent managed to get those working (bonanza brothers , megatwins , california games 2 , deadhead ) ... i'm still involved in games but feel much older.
funmonsterUK at the time (no internet , no mame , very few arcades where I lived) I’d never heard of mappy. I’d say bubble bobble mixed with popular c64 gfx styles like cybernoid etc.
Mythos looks unreal. Squeezing that out of C64 hardware is truly impressive. One game I expected to see in one of these two videos but didn't is Prince of Persia.
It's amazing how many games were being worked on and, indeed, finished but never saw full release. Makes you wonder what's been lost that we'll never know about...
Wow, this zelda clone is right up there. Really impressive. I can see why publishers were sick of horizontal shooters. There were just too many and they all seem the same. Thanks Pete..really cool to learn of some new titles.
I loved my Commodore 64, it had masterpieces in every genre and was very capable for being 1982 technology. I had to stick with it for a very long time and even appreciated the later releases in early 90's (eg. Golden Axe, Klax, Midnight Resistance, Turbo Charge, Double Dragon III, Outrun Europa, Rodland, the Turricans, the Ninja Turtles games, Volfied, Rainbow Islands). I have to admit Deep Star looks quite interesting and more colourful than the average Armalyte clone. Way too many shmups on the C64 went for a grey/metallic only look.
Ah, good times. I never had a C64 but played on friends' ones a lot. I had an Amiga 500 as our first computer. Yes, far too little originality with all these horizontal shooters.
I'll be looking at doing the other 8-bit machines for sure. Sometimes I want to do an episode but hit a wall, and I'd put money on a Vectrex episode being a dead end.
Great vid again, thanks. It's another showcase for the huge variety of games that were made for the c64. Isometric graphics, vector graphics, graphics that approached 16-bit quality; you name it, the c64 got it. Still amazes me today.
The daffy duck game looked awesome!.... I think I had a stroke watching that spudnik one though.. Not surprised that got cancelled. Top stuff as always mate
Psykozone - Vertically scrolled shooter..is that a sub genre label for the shoot em up games Pete ? Acid Ball - OK first glance that looks like sperm shooting up. 4 hours ? wow that`s quick. 2:53 yep confirmed my sperm theory there haha. Body Slam - This looks actually decent to me. Wrestling games around the 90s i weren`t too fond of but this looks nice. Thruster Ball - This 1 looks difficult, looks amazing too. I like the sound fx from what i could here. Reminds me of the windows 98 Pinball game. Daffy Duck - I love the layout of the screen with Daffy looking at you and the numbers. Would you say this game took the hardware of the C64 to it`s limits ? It looks amazing. Oh so a few portions were released ? That`s good then. Devious Designs - Looks interesting Planets of Death - sounds like a comic book name kind of thing hehe pretty cool that. Little Knight Aurthur = That game looks like...that egg game on the ZX Chuckie Egg was it ? Or was it the other game i`m thinking of ? Starace - hmmm instantly i saw a StarFox myself haha. I see, so it`s speed was a flaw factor in a huge sense. Prizone - No hit detection...ouch. Wonderball - I wonder what happened...lol ( sorry ) Looks nice that game and made by a 16 year old ? Awesome S S Sputnik - wow so much going on there on screen. Urban Warrior - ? i go nothing to add haha Otherworld - That omega ball reminds me of the ball from that famous NES game, i forgot it`s name haha oh yeah Marbell Madness. 1 life ? whoah...what a challenge. I love it. Starsat - Yay Australians. - Hurting my eyes a bit that game was, very colourful i must say. Deep Star - Beautiful Bobby Bounce Back - Is this 1 of those games where the player does not have any attacks ? Mythos - I can imagine this would of had a lawsuit. Nintendo i`m looking at you. Warspite - I love the moving stars. I noticed a lot of the companies went from alive to dust. Fears of Darkness - mmmm..reminds me of Castlevania. Thank you kindly for this amazing video Pete mate. Enjoyed it very much.
Thanks, Mel! Glad you enjoyed it. Yeah there are two types of shooter (shoot em up) generally - vertical or horizontal (aka vertically scrolling/horizontally scrolling). Verticals go up the screen, like Dodonpachi, Xenon II, etc, and horizontals go left to right like R-Type, etc. Daffy Duck, yes, it probably did push the hardware a lot looking at it. Little Knight Arthur - no, in Chuckie Egg you were a little man, not an egg. Are you thinking of Dizzy? Bobby Bounce Back - no, I don't believe the character has any attacks. And Mythos would definitely have been taken down by Nintendo if it was an actual game.
These games could easily get revived and then sold as Eshop games ! I'm sure something close could be duplicated because some of these games look really fun !
20:57 - Someone should pick up Mythos and finish it. I would love to see "The Legend of Zelda" playing on a c64; someone already ported "Super Mario Bros."...
