I'm not sure if I've already left this comment on another video but when I first watched this channel I didn't like it. I initially thought "Oh no...this guy is doing a voice...a character." But then when I watched them I realized his content is very good and he's better than a lot of other retro UA-camrs.
Ha! I thought the same! But the content is very well selected and text is well written. I can see that everything is very well made, the character and the voice match wonderfully with the mascot, the shirt sleeve, the text lines and the room props and cenography. That's work well done! Congrats!
Hi. Thank you so much for this video. This brings back lots of nostalgic memories. The og gameboy was the first system that I bought with my own money in college way back in 1992. The first game I played(besides tetris) was Quarth, an interesting puzzle game. Then there was Solomons Club, Solar Striker, and Nail n Scalez. Then finally I got Gearworks on sale for $6 at a used retro gaming store. It wasn't until much later that I saved enough to get Zelda Links Awakening and Final Fantasy Adventure. Please keep making these videos. All the best, Milton.
Ordered the rgb30. Going to draw 5 gb and 5 gbc game names out of a hat and only play those until I beat all 10. Thanks to this vid. Castle, max and trip are all in the hat.
I have the original yellow burger time handheld. I was so addicted to playing it as a kid. My mom bought it at Caldors department store back in the day.
Gargoyles quest Motocross maniacs Boxxle Daedaliun Opus Some of my favorites here, but not sure if they are "hidden gems" Gargoyles quest: my favorite game boy game with a great soundtrack. You are a gargoyle fighting through the ghoul realm. Pay it until you get though the first dungeon boss and you'll know whether or not you like it for sure. Motocross maniacs: motorcycle racing. If you save up enough *"Jets"* you can literally _fly_ through the last lap. Boxxle. Puzzle game. Moving boxes in a warehouse in tight spaces. Daedaliun Opus. Puzzle game with tetris-like pieces filling a predefined space. You get more pieces as you progress through levels. And there are four letter passwords to save your progress level two level. It's fun to try to guess some of the passwords. The last password in the game totally makes sense. And taught me the meaning of the word for the first time as a child.
I have finished Trip World. Amazing little game, so many Kirby vibes there. It's cute and there's no menus or dialogues making it straight and simple although very fun.
I love your game videos! They are a great way to add diversity to your content. And what's the point of these devices, if we don't focus on the games as well?
i really love these videos. Thank you for doing your part to expand the conversation beyond which device we should be using-- talking about which games to play is also important!
Psh my last 2 years of university as a 35 year old was TWO HOURS EACH WAY. Ill just gloss over the fact that over half of it each day was spent on the lovely puget sound ferries, basically sitting in a floating cafe, watching for orcas and seeing an occasional nuclear submarine sail past. Tooooootal misery.
I know no one is going to see this, but the lack of a full color pallet and instead using a smaller set of colors, actually really POPS to me. Trip world and Monster Max and several other gameboy games look so stylized. I really want to see this stylization in another medieval style game. With gothic backgrounds. I’m sure something like that exists.
Great video! I'm so old that I remember when the game Revenge of the Gator came out and I bought it at my neighborhood store! It appears to be the precursor to Kirby's Pinball from Hal laboratory. Nowadays it's hard to believe how complete fun and long-lasting video games were made for less size than what a photograph on a smartphone occupies us today!! I'm waiting for the arrival of my RGB30 that I bought because of you!
Here's a little challenge for you. Is there a handheld specifically for game boy or game boy color games that has a slightly bigger display? My eyesight's really bad. Yet I still like to be able to put it in my hand and play it which I can't do with the original system anymore because I need a bigger screen that let me know if you know and if not. Still, thanks for these cool videos. I'm going out of Ben's tonight. You make my day.
Tried Burger Time Deluxe after many of your other references to it (Looks great on the Onion OS Meatball color theme!), now I play it more than my old go-to Tetris! Dweeb, maybe you could do a video on other good on-the-go games. Games that are easy to start up and put down when you're out and about...Or "aboot" if you prefer!
As soon as I finished this video I turned on my rp2+ and played some Boxxle, so I guess that would be my suggestion to anyome who hasn't played it. Not the rarest recommendation but a fun way to kill a few minutes at a time, a precision movement puzzle box-sliding game that was commonly known in its day but didn't carry forward into the "graphics=gaming" generation. Mind you I came out the same year star wars did, '77, so I tease the kiddos about the tech demos they call games with zero concern for that ole timey thing we dinosaurs call "actual fun". That's why I've always been a Nintendo guy, they've kept up with fun while others were keeping up with the Jonses. But I digress ad naseum, different strokes and all, hopefully my bonus mentions of Wave Race and Operation C will help smoothe things over. Cheers!
Monster Max looks interesting, it's much in the same vein as the old 8-bit computer isometric adventure games - Knight Lore, Head Over Heels, Batman, etc. Edit: Just noticed it's developed by Rare, who also did Knight Lore.
These look like great recommendations! Just put Burger Time and Trip World on my RG Nano. Huge Burger Time fan, miss being able to play Burger Time World Tour on the 360.
Feels weird seeing gameboy games on a horizontal device. MM+ with DotMatrix video filter is a must for me to trully enjoy these titles. Anyway gb library is so insanely big and so we definitely need more videos like this 👍
I was iffy about the character aspect of this channel (if you're not doing a character i'm sorry) but it feels like you're making genuine content and it shows, great work, I wish great success upon yee!
Hey, Tech Dweeb! Great video, as always! Just wanted to mention that Monster Max looks very similar to a Switch/PS4 game called Lumo that you might enjoy.
Hiya TechDweeb, I just want to say thanks and I absolutely love your HIDDEN GEMS series! For these systems that I never owned as a kid, I am mainly playing the big-name titles due to lack of time. These videos are like receiving an unexpected gift because it gives me some focus and extra games to add to my list. Had you ever play any of the Boulder Dash series? I loved the GBA edition and often find myself playing through the game on several of the other systems. It seems like it would be right up your alley.
One of my favourite addictive gems is Money Idol Exchanger. I think it's a port of a Neo Geo game and it's an excellent port. Bringing as much over to the GB as possible. Even the music.
I do love those hidden gem videos! I have a love for a game on GameBoy called Cosmo Tank that I don't see too often. Although I think it flashed by quick on one of your videos once...
I don't have the right words to properly say how much I love to see your hidden gems between the device reviews! This video made me want to better explore the GB colorization palettes on Retroarch (I use only Special 1). If I had won the RG Nano, I would have made it my to-go GB/GBC console (even if I am not sure there's GB colorization there)... I will retry with the next giveaway 😊 My GB hidden gem: Felix the Cat!
Trip World reminds me alot of Kirby. Idk which came first. Maybe it's a Kirby Clone or maybe Kirby is a Trip World clone? Regardless it looks as fun as Kirby.
Amazing Penguin was my first GB game as a kid, and I still love it today. It's a bit like Qix meets Kickle Cubicle, and then like Picross there's a picture at the end. Have you played it?
Thank you for the video, I didn't know any of these games and I just discovered that a ROM Hack called Revenge of the Gator Gold was released in 2023 and that there is a Trip World DX (remaster) on the Switch!
Video idea if your ever want to mix things up - headphones for gaming to pair with handhelds. Lots of people use headphones while gaming and anything labeled as "for gaming" is almost universally junk. And the people who review proper headphones and IEMs are almost universally not gamers (and no retro gamers at all), so theres a big group of people who would benefit from Id recommend some inexpensive options for starters - the koss kph40i are super 80s retro looking (you can even buy orange ear pads by yaxxi to finish the 80s look - theyre sold for the other retro styled headphones, the porta pro, but fit both) headphones that sound incredible, especially for ~$40 Also for more modern games on stuff like the steam deck, the cvj Konoka. A tiny vibration motor that gives explosions and stuff a ton of texture without being too bassy. Cable is kinda weak, but a replacement by trn calles the "redchain" is $12, and the iems are only $20. I keep these with my steam deck, and i have stiff costing $1000+. Not good for retro games, but for modern stuff, theyre insane. A pair of earbud style headphones - the niceHCK EB2s, $25 and theyre built amazingly, sound incredible, and come in a bunch of colors. A cheap bluetooth set with surprisingly good ANC is the moondrop space travel for $25. Pair with the deck, a phone, higher end handhelds, etc. For the money, they sound superb, and the gaming latency is excellent. And lastly, the moondrop chu II. IEMs that just do everything nearly perfectly, with no drawbacks in music, gaming, retro or modern, etc. for $18. right angle cable also plays nicely with handhelds. I keep these and the eb2s with my retro handhelds, and occasionally bust out the orange kph40's as well.
DEVIL'S CRUSH ON MEGA DRIVE? Yes, that is a thing. It looks really nice but it doesn't have the great control of the PC engine / turbo edition still check it out though.
I remember when my brother keeps asking my dad for a gameboy. He got his wish and got a gameboy advance. With a copy of jurassic park 3: Island attack. I remember playing yuyu hakusho for GB, tony hawk(GBC), megaman X2(GBC) and dragon warrior monsters 2 for GBC. So many great and fun memories I wanna return to.
Usually I'm not a graphics guy but I cant stand to play these games. It gives me a headache. Tiny screen with visuals that looks so much worse than the NES and with no color. My eyes!!! My eyes!!!
Some games I like are Penguin Wars, Tail 'Gator, Spanky's Quest, Solomon's Club, Pocket Bomberman, Mario's Picross and Picross 2.
I really enjoyed playing Gargoyles Quest on my Gameboy.
I'm not sure if I've already left this comment on another video but when I first watched this channel I didn't like it. I initially thought "Oh no...this guy is doing a voice...a character." But then when I watched them I realized his content is very good and he's better than a lot of other retro UA-camrs.
Thanks for saying so! I'm glad you gave it another chance :)
Lol, same here. Glad I gave him a second chance, his vids are great.
@@TechDweebsame here. And I wanna apologize for that because your stuff is awesome!
I thought the absolute same but now I love his persona!
It is so wholesome and I truly like watching his videos.
I even fall asleep to them!
Ha! I thought the same! But the content is very well selected and text is well written. I can see that everything is very well made, the character and the voice match wonderfully with the mascot, the shirt sleeve, the text lines and the room props and cenography. That's work well done! Congrats!
I still play original Game boy, and I'm still finding new great games. I personally really like the simplicity. Thanks for sharing! 👍🏻
Hi. Thank you so much for this video. This brings back lots of nostalgic memories. The og gameboy was the first system that I bought with my own money in college way back in 1992. Both Revenge Of The Gator and Trip World have really nice romhacks that gives them some really nice gbc color palettes.
Revenge of the Gator was my favorite as a kid with the original Gameboy. Great physics, music, and style!
Have you also played Tail Gator for the Gameboy?
Never played that, but the video playthroughs look cool. I'll check it out!
Ordered the rgb30. Going to draw 5 gb and 5 gbc game names out of a hat and only play those until I beat all 10. Thanks to this vid. Castle, max and trip are all in the hat.
Nice! Enjoy!
I have the original yellow burger time handheld. I was so addicted to playing it as a kid. My mom bought it at Caldors department store back in the day.
0:28 I know the feeling, the Gameboy, Gameboy Color, GBA, and Nintendo DS were an escape from my dysfunctional family.
Gargoyles quest
Motocross maniacs
Boxxle
Daedaliun Opus
Some of my favorites here, but not sure if they are "hidden gems"
Gargoyles quest: my favorite game boy game with a great soundtrack.
Solomon's Club is one of my all time favourite GB games. Really good fun and surprisingly difficult on later levels.
I have finished Trip World. Amazing little game, so many Kirby vibes there. It's cute and there's no menus or dialogues making it straight and simple although very fun.
Definitely!
I love your game videos! They are a great way to add diversity to your content. And what's the point of these devices, if we don't focus on the games as well?
Well said :)
i really love these videos. Thank you for doing your part to expand the conversation beyond which device we should be using-- talking about which games to play is also important!
Definitely. And I also love making these sorts of vids so it's win-win!
Heiankyo Alien is my Favorite Gameboy Game. You use your shovel to Dig Holes and Bury Aliens that come at you. It inspired games like Bomberman
Yeah I saw that as I was digging through the list (pun intended). I'll revisit it!
Revenge of the Gator has a very good colorization romhack.
I knew you'd be a Gator Revenge kinda guy. I loved that game growing up and find it just as enjoyable to play these days.
I love this classic game review style but for old games, very cool.
Thanks buddy! I love doing them, it helps break up the hardware focus.
I know no one is going to see this, but the lack of a full color pallet and instead using a smaller set of colors, actually really POPS to me. Trip world and Monster Max and several other gameboy games look so stylized. I really want to see this stylization in another medieval style game. With gothic backgrounds. Keep shaking that salt shaker, TechDweeb
That's a job I can handle
Here's a little challenge for you. Is there a handheld specifically for game boy or game boy color games that has a slightly bigger display? My eyesight's really bad. Yet I still like to be able to put it in my hand and play it which I can't do with the original system anymore because I need a bigger screen that let me know if you know and if not. Still, thanks for these cool videos. I'm going out of Ben's tonight. You make my day.
Bigger than the RGB30? I don't think so, but that's a really big screen, it's the biggest Game Boy device I own (that and the RGB20SX).
I’m so excited to try all of these, especially Castle Quest and Trip World
These videos have become my absolute favorite to discover new games to enjoy. I always seem to try most of them, your picks are so good!
Awesome suggestion!
I’ve been seeing the RGB30 everywhere.. taunting me until I buy one.
As soon as I finished this video I turned on my rp2+ and played some Boxxle, so I guess that would be my suggestion to anyome who hasn't played it. Boxxle looks cool! Never played, will do, thank you for your recommendation!
And you have a hilarious point about 'tech demos,' right :)
I remember playing Incredible Crash Dummies all the time as a kid. Great fun
I think I had that gator pinball game when I was a kid. Thanks for that bit of nostalgia.
Gameboyle makes some great Gameboy and Gameboy Color games reviews and recommendations. 😁
Monster Max looks interesting, it's much in the same vein as the old 8-bit computer isometric adventure games - Knight Lore, Head Over Heels, Batman, etc.
Edit: Just noticed it's developed by Rare, who also did Knight Lore.
No one ever mentions it, but I was a huge fan of Dr. Franken.
Anyway gb library is so insanely big and so we definitely need more videos like this 👍
Once again you pick games I've never considered playing. Excited to try these out!
I was iffy about the character aspect of this channel (if you're not doing a character i'm sorry) but it feels like you're making genuine content and it shows, great work, I wish great success upon yee!
Thanks for making me aware of burger time deluxe. Quality stuff.
Hey, Tech Dweeb! Great video, as always! Just wanted to mention that Monster Max looks very similar to a Switch/PS4 game called Lumo that you might enjoy.
So glad to see Castle Quest get some praise!
This is why I love your channel. You do great reviews but also have more content than just that.. I’m here for all of it!
Thanks for saying so! I get bored of just doing reviews and it's nice to hear when folks dig the other types of content I like to dabble in :)
Yay. Love these hidden gem videos. I'll add some of these to my miyoo mini.
Hiya TechDweeb, I just want to say thanks and I absolutely love your HIDDEN GEMS series! For these systems that I never owned as a kid, I am mainly playing the big-name titles due to lack of time. Nice! I tried Boulder Dash on the gba but I didn't give it much of a chance. I'll it to my to-play list 👍
I just finished modding my dmg gameboy into a dmg gameboy color. Now I’ve been playing non stop of Zelda oracle of time
Oooh nice! I wanna do that someday
I have never heard of burger time but looks fun. The bunny game looks more my thing
The Adventures of Star Saver is the most hidden gem I've played in a while for it. Maybe Chalvo-55?
Great video some games for me to check out
Love the CGA like color pallets you picked for a few of the games.
Definitely! The pixelshift palettes are so well done.
Revenge of the gator is soooo fun! I love it, have some great memories of playing it back in the day 😊
Thanks for sharing hidden gems on Gameboy. I like a lot simple games like these !
Wow.........Monster Max plays almost like one of my Favorite NES Games Solstice
I don't have the right words to properly say how much I love to see your hidden gems between the device reviews! Thanks for saying so! And thanks for the suggestion, I'll play some Felix tonight :D
Bad bunny been a nuisance since the GB days I see
Burger Time Deluxe! I played that way way back when I was a kid, will defo have to revisit, thanks for reminding me
What small town did you live in if you don't mind mentioning? I grew up in Tweed so I can relate.
Small town neat Bancroft. Not technically 'north Ontario', but a lot more North than I am now.
Trip World looks fantastic.
Trip World reminds me alot of Kirby. Idk which came first. Maybe it's a Kirby Clone or maybe Kirby is a Trip World clone? Regardless it looks as fun as Kirby.

Where is the link or information about buying the thing you are holding in your hand.
Link in the description ;)

OG GB is amazing, love Navy Seals and even the Amazing Spider-man , not great games but just simple stupid fun.
Hello Dweeb, How do you apply those palettes? I can't find info about it. Thanks
Wow, monster Max looks a lot like solstice on the NES. I wonder if the same developer made it.
I'm convinced you used that pallette just to gross everyone out.
Thank you for the video, I didn't know any of these games and I just discovered that a ROM Hack called Revenge of the Gator Gold was released in 2023 and that there is a Trip World DX (remaster) on the Switch!

Oh you 😊
Sooper enjoyable video, so much love to my always dream consolé
How do you get the color palettes for the games?
Thanks !
6:59 lift your right flipper!
Like while it's getting hit by the gator tale?
I'm not the type to make these comments, but: you have a fantastic voice, you sound like a bee with the ability to speak.🐝🐝🐝
DEVIL'S CRUSH ON MEGA DRIVE? Yes, that is a thing. It looks really nice but it doesn't have the great control of the PC engine / turbo edition still check it out though.

So don't get why you haven't got more subscribers. I don't ever say this but please everyone thumbs up and sub
Usually I'm not a graphics guy but I cant stand to play these games. It gives me a headache. Tiny screen with visuals that looks so much worse than the NES and with no color. My eyes!!! My eyes!!!
Just so you know i accidentaly disliked the video instead of liking your vids are awesome
I will let you off with a warning this time but don't let it happen again
Hi.
Hi my friend

Great choices. 🫰
