- Southern Fried Creekin' was the second in the series of videos released by Gentry Video Productions in the early 1990's. It was released at the 1992 Gauley Festival. Rivers and creeks include the Tellico, Watauga, Overflow Creek, Toxaway, Whitewater, and Mystery creek. Paddlers include Woody Callaway, Risa Shimoda, Stan Crane, Bruce Hare, Bailey Johnson, Jeff Richards, Dwight Schuler, Scott Schoup, Dave Simpson, Terry Smith, Doug Wellman, Russ Kulmar, Lee Belknap, Nolan Whitesell, and Kent Wigington.
One of the original and greatest paddling videos ever. Really inspired me back in the day.
Awesome video! Back when open boats were actually canoes! No need to apologize for the narration or video quality. It was terrific.
Fantastic footage and videography from the early 90's!
These old videos have really great OC1 footage. Just got (back) into paddling after 25 year hiatus from high school and am paddling a dagger Genesis. I love it
How did it take 32 years to see this. Bad ass boatin!!
Funny how back then we all ran the right side of the falls, but now we run the left side. Great seeing all those "silver creek paddles. Still have mine.
Wow,
So stoked to see these videos back up. I have all of them in VHS, and they really inspired me as a paddler. Someone had to go first, hat's off to Wayne, Russ, Kent, Woody, and the rest of the pioneers who gave us youngsters something to aspire to.
Wayne, stumbled up on your video. Wow, very cool to see some old friends getting it done. I was paddle boarding on the Upper Hooch a couple weeks ago and came up on a person that looked familiar. "Do I know you"? "Stan Crane", he was there paddling with his daughter and her boyfriend. He was looking as smooth as ever. Water wasn't as challenging as in your video but it was more about a dad having a day with family. They let me tag along, good to catch up with him while paddling.
The River Runner brought me here. Good stuff. Know your history! Thanks to the pioneers who helped advance our sport, and those who filmed all this wonderful 3rd person, pre-GoPro footage! 🙌🏼
Thanks for posting this Wayne. It's been a long time since I've been on the river with you and Stan Crane back in Georgia.
A Class V boater and physician told me back in the day that a dime will fit in any slot. Those long boats bridged over a lot of trouble, but by the same token they cross bridged into plenty of trouble. And they were tippy as hell.
thank you so much for uploading this man. I've wanted to watch it for so long but could never find a copy
I've heard about this video for a long time and always wanted to see it. Thanks for posting it!
Thanks for sharing.
It feels like home.
Awesome video and great production for the time, thanks for uploading this
Thanks, Wayne. I'm pretty sure I still have an original tape copy somewhere in a closet. It's great to see this again.
Thanks for posting. Inspiring the next generations...
definitely happy to see this . Still have the old VHS rocking!
this is a great video! Thanks for uploading it to YT.
How good would these guys be in a modern boat like an OG, 9r, or Phantom? I'm guessing absolutely world class.
Nate, good paddlers are good paddlers. Years ago I had a friend, Ron Lugbill, who paddled a plastic boat (Mirage) in the '84 Slalom Nationals on the Ocoee. He was third after first runs and finished in the top ten. Didn't hurt that Ron was one of the best Slalom racers in the US, 5th in the Worlds.
@@stevethomas760 while this is true they would be even better with modern technology
@@jordangoodman77 I would say yes. These guys were on the cutting edge of C1 boat design back in the day. Heck I still have a couple of their C1designs in the boat rack now. Now if I could just bend my knees that far. When I was getting out of one years ago a buddy said "you look like a fresh born calf trying to stand"
@@stevethomas760 absolute legends in the paddling community for sure
@@jordangoodman77 Well Jon Lugbill made the Wheaties cover. I have it somewhere. Kidding around with him about signing it, "yeah sure". Well I didn't, wish I had now
always enjoyed SFC
thanks Wayne, you were a visionary
I appreciate the kind words.
Can I use some of this for a short film I'm working on? I'm not monetizing from it so I cant pay for any of the footage. i will be glad to give video credit. thanks!
I heard Wayne titled a local Creek into the Metro Atlanta Chattahoochee River and called a cab for the shuttle back to his vehicle LOL

LOL, I haven't seen this video in... I can't remember when.
