I coulda sworn I saw Andy T's checkerboard helmet in there somewhere...
Funny how back then we all ran the right side of the falls, but now we run the left side. Great seeing all those "silver creek paddles. Still have mine.
Fantastic footage and videography from the early 90's!
How did it take 32 years to see this. Bad ass boatin!!
A Class V boater and physician told me back in the day that a dime will fit in any slot. Those long boats bridged over a lot of trouble, but by the same token they cross bridged into plenty of trouble. And they were tippy as hell.
21:14 clip used in The River Runner film 🤙
Awesome video and great production for the time, thanks for uploading this
Brilliant video! I classic steep creekin' in those long boats. Around 1991 I believe I traded my Dancer in for an AQII. It would be another 7 years or so before I finally moved from Louisiana to the Nantahala Gorge to work for NOC and kayak everyday. I stayed up there for 3 summers and 2 winters and fulfilled my dream do runs like this, Deep Creek, Little Rive in the park, Little River Canyon in Alabama and many more that escape me right now. I miss it every single day! From 1988 though 2002 Appalachia in general and Appalachian rivers changed my life all for the better. I am looking forward to attending the 50th anniversary of the NOC nest year for past and present employees! I cannot wait to see some old friends and do some paddling. Cheers!
The River Runner brought me here. Good stuff. Know your history! Thanks to the pioneers who helped advance our sport, and those who filmed all this wonderful 3rd person, pre-GoPro footage! 🙌🏼
Wayne, stumbled up on your video. Wow, very cool to see some old friends getting it done. I was paddle boarding on the Upper Hooch a couple weeks ago and came up on a person that looked familiar. "Do I know you"? "Stan Crane", he was there paddling with his daughter and her boyfriend. He was looking as smooth as ever. Water wasn't as challenging as in your video but it was more about a dad having a day with family. They let me tag along, good to catch up with him while paddling.
These old videos have really great OC1 footage. Just got (back) into paddling after 25 year hiatus from high school and am paddling a dagger Genesis. I love it
Thanks for sharing. It feels like home.
How good would these guys be in a modern boat like an OG, 9r, or Phantom? I'm guessing absolutely world class.
Nate, good paddlers are good paddlers. Years ago I had a friend, Ron Lugbill, who paddled a plastic boat (Mirage) in the '84 Slalom Nationals on the Ocoee. He was third after first runs and finished in the top ten. Didn't hurt that Ron was one of the best Slalom racers in the US, 5th in the Worlds.
@@stevethomas760 while this is true they would be even better with modern technology
@@jordangoodman77 I would say yes. These guys were on the cutting edge of C1 boat design back in the day. Heck I still have a couple of their C1designs in the boat rack now. Now if I could just bend my knees that far. When I was getting out of one years ago a buddy said "you look like a fresh born calf trying to stand"
@@stevethomas760 absolute legends in the paddling community for sure
@@jordangoodman77 Well Jon Lugbill made the Wheaties cover. I have it somewhere. Kidding around with him about signing it, "yeah sure". Well I didn't, wish I had now
Lol...i own this on VHS
One of the original and greatest paddling videos ever. Really inspired me back in the day.
Awesome video! Back when open boats were actually canoes! No need to apologize for the narration or video quality. It was terrific.
this is a great video! Thanks for uploading it to YT.
My dad get mad when i call him Psycho. Then he says not anymore.
Back from the days when we used the TVA water line and the weather channel on TV. Feel so long ago.
Thanks for posting this Wayne. It's been a long time since I've been on the river with you and Stan Crane back in Georgia.
I guard my original copy!!!
LOL, I haven't seen this video in... I can't remember when.
Nice one Wayne! So good to see this again!
I heard Wayne titled a local Creek into the Metro Atlanta Chattahoochee River and called a cab for the shuttle back to his vehicle LOL
Wayne sounds like he's doing a deer hunting instead of one for Whitewater LOL WhiteWater LOL
Ron Stewart was my dad. These clips always help me remember him before cancer.
I've heard about this video for a long time and always wanted to see it. Thanks for posting it!

Thanks for posting. Inspiring the next generations...
definitely happy to see this . Still have the old VHS rocking!
Wow, So stoked to see these videos back up. I have all of them in VHS, and they really inspired me as a paddler. Someone had to go first, hat's off to Wayne, Russ, Kent, Woody, and the rest of the pioneers who gave us youngsters something to aspire to.
totally forgot all about this film. As a kid in the late 90s i was so into it all. I loved Riot and what Corran was doing. Wanted to live on the road and just paddle. Brings back Ggeat memories
Wayne and Susan, You all are legends in the 90s paddling communities. Thanks for all you did and do! Bryan Stewart
Awesome!! I still have this on VHS somewhere. This is the video that made me determined to paddle the Green. Thank you for this, Wayne Gentry.
thank you so much for uploading this man. I've wanted to watch it for so long but could never find a copy
Thanks, Wayne. I'm pretty sure I still have an original tape copy somewhere in a closet. It's great to see this again.
