- It was late in the 1990's. Whitewater Kayaking was on the rise and most California rivers and creeks had already been found and paddled by the pioneers of CA Whitewater. A Local group of kayakers from the American River grab the first descent of a true diamond in the rough... The South Fork Silver Creek.

We are so stoked to have this video complete. It was such fun for us to collaborate with our friends. Thank you for watching and please help us spread this story around. Like, subscribe and share away. Cheers!
This is awesome. I was on a trip down it shortly thereafter, was truly amazing. Bravo.
gotta say, like 99% of the time kayaking videos and films just don't do it for me. This is the exception! I absolutely loved the storytelling approach, the interviews were absolutely key and really helped capture the energy and emotions of the FD. Such a cool film, fantastic work by the whole team. I can't wait for my chance to make it back to CA to run this myself!
What a rad video folks! Drove up there motel hunting and had no idea.
Awesome stuff!
I could have watched hours of this. Great story. Fantastic production.
That was great! Such an epic creek.
Such a rad film guys. Love the respect you have for Northern California and the sport.
Great film, cool to hear the background story with the whole free and to see the old school footage interspliced with the new!
Super cool with the old footage parallel with more recent clips. Music is appropriately dramatic. Awesome stuff.
Loved it! Great job guys
I love the historical approach you guys took to this video. It’s really cool hearing from the guys that did the run what each moment felt like! Fantastic film!!!
Sweet video.
Well done.
Well done boys! I like where you said people who currently paddle it and figure it out on their own, is kind of like a first descent. Thats what I did, and definitely makes it a lot spicier!
Awesome work!!!
Wow. That was really fun to watch. I had no idea how new this creek was to kayaking. Thanks for sharing the history of this run!
Great video of a great time in California kayaking - well done!
I wonder if Ron Thompson is the same guy I went to high school with in the 70’s? He was just getting started, and I almost bought a fiberglass kayak from him made from a mold owned by the local Sierra Club chapter. Sure looks like him! It would be cool to re-connect after all those years and swap River stories.
Incredible job on this. I will remember my first time kayaking South Silver for the rest of my life - one of the best runs in California, and maybe the world. Thanks to the boys (J-RAD!) that put SS on the map, and the filmmakers for bringing back some amazing memories!
Awesome to see how this all came together originally! Who knew Andrew, the Coloma Club and a Hi-8 camera would have been involved!
Thanks for putting this together and posting! Probably just nostalgic for my youth but wish there more videos like this, exploring and detailing the history and pioneers of whitewater kayaking!
90's and early 2000's me: so stoked to get the latest VHS copy of whitewater porn in the mail, good times!
Best times of my life! Nice job boys!
Fun times. Incredible how the sport has progressed. That's about the same time I had to hang things up.
Such a special place, love hearing the history of the run!! Well done!
Yeahhhhhh! SUCH a great run, thank you all SO much for putting it on the map! :D
Kudos, amazing Gents!! Much gratitude to all who opened eyes & minds to so many magical granite-filled experiences...
So cool. Amazing to see the archive footage intercut with more recent stuff...and so little of it from headcams! We need more of this in the whitewater community!
Awesome thnx so much for sharing this
Awesome vid! Awesome dudes!
lovely work lads... doing any river of grade 4 and above in a prozone is a feat in itself... from an x prozone owner.. beautiful looking river..
Hell yeah, Mikey,
I just love this :-)
I remember watching a video of tommy hilleke running it all at high water and when I got there,at low water,I wanted to do it like tommy, just route it.I pitoned the left wall and auto ejected and swam the bottom drop.It was glorious
Props, the Mr.Clean isn't the easiest boat to throw ends in
looked like it was a prozone but i could be wrong.. lol.. first ends i ever put together were in a mr clean..
Gotta love the part where you see nothing but splayed legs flying through the air at 2:28. "I'm tired of paddling. I'm gunna pop the skirt and go flying instead!"
nice!!!!
What about that gnarly FN swim?😮
Did I see an AQ around the 14 minute mark? I did see a Topolino ;-)
The boat at 14:22? It kinda looks like an old Noah AQ! Man I loved that boat...
yeh think there was a topo in it nr the end,
