- There are a lot of black permanent markers in the world, and I couldn't help buy buy way too many of them to try and figure out which one was the best signing experience as I signed tens of thousands of pieces of paper. It's for when you don't need to write very much, but you need the pen to get you through EXTREME CONDITIONS.

I bought a sharpie in 2008 that I still own and use today!! I don't use it very often (that's why the ink hasn't run out yet) but I think it's pretty amazing that it hasn't dried up or anything! Such a good pen :D

It's oddly comforting to hear someone wax enthusiastic about pens. There is a satisfaction with a great pen that most people don't pay attention to. And that you and I probably pay too much attention to lol.

I love using posca fine point black markers instead, for this type of use. They feel very nice to use & there is less "shade of grey" when they run out.

I live and die by The Sharpie!! Long story short, I write on a lot of boxes (some plastic, ew) which I handle later. The Sharpie ink does not come off ...and now I will seek out the METAL Sharpie for longevity!!! TYVM!

I never thought it would be this fun to watch a video about comparing pens.
The metal sharpie seems to have a much larger ink reservoir due to the increase in volume in the actual body of the pen. They may be able to use thinner walls to pack in more while maintaining strength from the metal construction. The pocket shark, by comparison, looks like a normal-sized pen in a big holder.

The pocket shark is produced by a company called Cold Steel. It's a self defense tool first and a marker second that's why the ergonomics and longevity of the marker as a marker don't really hold up in comparison to other brands.
So thankful for this highly scientific experiment.

lol, this is incredibly funny to me as I worked the North Texas Teen Book Festival this year (2020) on the retail/ barns and noble end (i was just a basic bookseller nothing special, nor of course did I get to meet John) so was not surprised in the slightest that John's favorite markers are Sharpies because the day before he got here we were in the midst of a scramble to get him a pack of sharpies.
